“Mingyu, slow down,” you said with a sigh, trying not to roll your eyes.
“What was he thinking?” Mingyu spat, not acknowledging what you had just said. He gripped the steering wheel even harder.
You watched as his knuckles began to turn white and rubbed his arm soothingly. “Baby, take a deep breath. Relax.”
He just shrugged you off and cursed at the car in front of him.
“Don’t fucking tell me to relax.”
“It’s not a big deal, Gyu.”
He actually turned his head towards you and looked at you this time. “You’re joking.”
You shrugged sheepishly. “I’ve had worse.”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?”
You winced, knowing you’d probably made it worse and that Mingyu was likely now picturing the grimy hands of ill-intentioned strangers all over your body.
“I should have him killed,” he snarled.
To most, that threat would sound completely ridiculous or utterly insane, but your fiancé was the head of the Seoul mob-the South West branch anyway- and he was no stranger to violence. Having someone killed would be as easy as snapping his fingers.
You scoffed to call his bluff.
“You think I won’t?” he challenged and you groaned.
“You promised you were done with that.”
It’s true, one of the conditions of your engagement had been that Mingyu agree to put the more sinister side of his business to rest, and although you trusted him, in all honesty, you weren’t sure how well he was upholding his end of the deal.
“I’d make an exception.”
“Well don’t. I don’t want some poor guy’s blood on my hands.”
At that, the car screeched to a stop right in the middle of the freeway. The cars behind you honked and flashed their lights at Mingyu as they maneuvered to avoid a collision.
You huffed in frustration, wanting to bang your head against the dashboard. This was exactly why you didn’t like for Mingyu to drive himself: he pulled dangerous shit all the time like this. Literally, all of his other men had drivers who took them places and you desperately wished Mingyu would hire someone, but he insisted that it was safest if he was the one driving (yet here you were in the middle of the highway).
“You could’ve fucking killed us!” you shouted, more annoyed than anything.
Mingyu took a deep breath. “I’m sorry. But y/n, he’s not just some poor guy.”
“He was trying to get a rise out of you, Gyu. He fucking hates you, of course, he’d go after me, and he was drunk.”
Mingyu narrowed his eyes at you, foot still pressed firmly on the brake. “That’s not a fucking excuse, you of all people should know that. Why are you trying to defend him?”
“I’m not trying to defend him, I’m just saying he doesn’t deserve to die. Can we please just get home?”
Mingyu relented and put the car back into motion making you breathe a sigh of relief.
Even though he didn’t say anything else you could tell his mind was still going a thousand miles a minute. You watched him chew at his lip in silence and wondered what was going on in that beautiful head of his. Nothing good, you could be sure of that.
Mingyu’s mind was darker than most. Occupational hazard. He carried so much pain that you hadn’t known about when you first met him. He’d let you in slowly, keeping you at arm’s length for months, until he almost lost you. And then he knew he couldn’t keep things from you anymore. It was still a challenge to understand his thought process sometimes, but you liked it that way. How could a ruthless, power-hungry mobster also be the most loving, family-oriented person you’d ever met in your life? How could someone who dropped a grand on a dinner like it was nothing secretly rather spend one more night picnicking with crappy Chinese food on the bedroom floor in your old apartment? You couldn’t think of an answer, and you didn’t want to.
The guy at the bar tonight had been some rival of Mingyu’s. You hadn’t seen him before, but you could tell because when Mingyu got up to get the two of you more drinks he swooped in and laid it on heavy. He looped one arm around your waist and placed his other hand on your knee and began attempting to seduce you. Sure, you were uncomfortable but more than anything you were angry. And tired. Tired of being used as bait, something to get to Mingyu.
You didn’t want to make a scene so you listened to the asshole talk about how much better he’d treat you than Mingyu until your fiancé eventually returned with your drinks in hand, face beet red, eyes dark with anger.
The man, you never caught his name, left the bar with a broken nose. Mingyu left with bruised knuckles. You’d thought it would end at that, but of course, once Mingyu got started it was hard for him to stop. It was a gift in the bedroom, but a curse in the rest of your life.
Then, so softly you almost didn’t hear it, Mingyu broke the silence in the car and said “I know what he said to you,” and it all clicked.
Normally, a hand on your shoulder, thigh, ass was enough to set Mingyu off, but combine that with the filthy words he’d undoubtedly overheard spilling from the man’s lips… no wonder all he could see was red.
“Mingyu, I-“
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I didn’t want to start something.”
“Start something? Is that true? Or do you think he’s right?”
“No, of course not.”
“Do you think he can satisfy you better than I can?”
“Mingyu!”
“Well do you?”
You shook your head and rubbed your thighs together, fighting a shiver. As irritating as Mingyu’s jealousy could be, the effect it had on you was even more infuriating. The man could already turn you on without doing anything and whenever he started acting a little jealous it was game over for you. It was pathetic, really.
“Why the fuck did he even think it was okay to look at you, let alone touch you?”
“I don’t know,” you shrugged finally settling in to play the game. “These big dudes with huge muscles just think they can have whoever they want.”
Mingyu whipped his head back towards you. “What did you say?”
You ignored him. “I mean he definitely wouldn’t be as good as you, but he could do some damage.” Mingyu was full-on glaring at you now, and you wanted to tell him to keep his eyes on the road, but you couldn’t give up so fast. “I mean, just one of his hands could probably wrap around my whole neck. Like they were giant, and you know what they say about guys with big hands-“
“Do you think this is funny?”
Any sane person wouldn’t even think about taunting Mingyu like this, not with his reputation, but you couldn’t be sane to be with someone like Mingyu anyway, and besides, you knew he was a big softie at heart.
“A little,” you admitted. “You look really hot right now.”
He really did. His hair was tousled with silver highlights from the moonlight streaming in through the windshield, his tan skin was flushed with adrenaline, and his white button-up was unbuttoned just a few times to show off his collarbone. You bit your lip. You were so fucking weak.
“That’s not going to work.”
“No?” You quirked an eyebrow and leaned over the console to see that he was already more than half hard in his dress pants. “Because it looks like it’s working.” You reached over and began to palm him through his trousers, smirking when he cursed and rolled his neck at the contact.
“Y/n, if I have to pull over, you’re not going to be able to walk for the next week.”
Oh no, that’d be horrible you thought to yourself and rolled your eyes. He had to know that’s what you secretly wanted, right? Right? Why were men so stupid?
Either way, you took your hand back and moved it up under the hem of your dress to where you were feeling a little desperate for some friction. You sighed deeply when you rubbed yourself over your panties, not even surprised at how wet you were.
“Fuck,” you hissed out and hiked your legs up onto the seat so you could give Mingyu a better view.
“Stop that.”
He said it so forcefully that you froze, fingers hovering over your panties, about to pull them to the side. Then you smiled.
“No.” You went ahead and did it anyway, slipping two fingers inside of yourself easily.
You weren’t one to defy Mingyu often, especially when it came to what he asked of you in the bedroom, but you knew how crazy it drove him and just couldn’t resist.
Mingyu groaned, trying and failing to maintain an angry expression. His eyes betrayed an absolutely sinful lust that made you want to melt and you wished more than anything he’d just pull the fucking car over.
“Fuck, Gyu,” you gasped, “I wish these were your fingers, you’re so good with your fingers.”
“Yeah? You sure you wish they’re my fingers? Not someone else’s?”
You shook your head vigorously. “Never. You’re the only one who knows how to make me cum that hard.”
“Is that what you want? To cum hard?”
“God, yes,” you moaned, pumping your fingers in and out of you faster.
“Take off your dress.”
“What?” you weren’t sure if you’d heard him right, you were still driving down the highway after all.
“You heard me. Take. It. Off.”
Not wanting to push your luck any further you didn’t hesitate to listen this time and pulled the loose fabric up and over your head.
“Good girl,” he praised and you whined. You were still wearing your bra and underwear and as much as you’d love to flash oncoming traffic, you hoped Mingyu wouldn’t ask you to take them off.
“You can touch yourself,” he said and you complied, knowing it was more of an instruction than an allowance.
It felt good, really good, but you still wished it was him instead of you.
“Fuck, darling you look so beautiful like that, God, I can’t believe I get to marry you.”
“If, you stop, killing people,” you managed to get out through gritted teeth and Mingyu laughed.
“I’m not going to kill him, baby. I made a promise. You’re too important to risk losing, even if he is a fucking prick.”
You whimpered, the mixture of complete head-over-heels love you felt for Mingyu and pleasure making you crumble.
“Don’t worry, baby,” he said, reaching over and taking you by the wrist, stalling your movements just as you were about to fall over the edge. “I’m gonna fuck you so hard you’ll forget you ever met that asshole.”
lmk what you think i always appreciate feedback!!

Own it..then Redeem it (2007!Leonardo x reader)
Chapter 4: Just Words or Truth?
Winter gives smiles and dries his hair with the towel around his neck.
“Ms.Lane, thank you for showing (Y/n) to my office, you may leave.” Winter smiles and the assistant blushes with a nod. She gives you the most envious glare in history before she closes the door.
“Follow me (Y/n).” Winters disappeared back into his second floor and you went up the stairs and followed him to what seems like his home.
“So your work is your home?” You asked, staring at everything in awe. The whole thing felt like a secret base in the office. ‘Just how rich is he?’
“I say it’s better here than to just keep driving around all day. Far easier.” Winters explained and smiled at you while going to the kitchen and pouring me a glass of champagne. He brings the glass towards me and sets his towel on one shoulder.
“Have you decided on my offer, my dear?” Winters looks at you curiously.
“Oh yea, um, I decided to accept your offer on the job. When do you want me to start?” You sat on the couch with him.
“That’s marvelous my dear. You can start tomorrow if you want. I will send a driver to your home.”
“Oh you don’t have to do that.”
“No my dear, I want to. You are the special piece missing in this company and I would love to give you everything you deserved before your workload would commence. Shall we have dinner tonight as a celebration?” Winters gives you the most charming smile.
“Thank you but maybe another night. I made other plans with my friends.” You smiled apologetically. You couldn’t forget about telling your friends about this. Winters is a good friend to you but you couldn’t let it in the way.
“Very well my dear. Now if you excuse me, I’m gonna get ready for a meeting in 30 minutes.” Winters stands up and starts walking to his room until he stops at the door frame. “How about tomorrow night?”
You chuckled while shaking your head. “Sure, tomorrow night sounds good. Good day Mr.Winters.” You smiled and walked out of his ‘secret’ apartment.
Winters smiled and went back inside his room. Never in his immortal life, has he met a woman like you. If only he met you in his time period, maybe he wouldn’t have stumbled upon this curse. Winters puts his suit on and looks at the warrior suit he had displayed in another closet. He has lived all these years in regret, now knowing that he wants to lead a life full of family. He looks out the window and brings a small smile to his lips. The end of regret and suffering has to start somewhere, and you are that key. Which is why… ‘I want to tell you everything myself.’
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You walked out the building and a truck honked at you.
“Hey where do you think you're going?” A familiar male voice hollered at you and you turned around.
You see April and Casey leaning on the delivery truck. You walk towards them with a smile on your face.
“I didn’t think I would bump into you both here, but I guess now is better than later.” You hugged April and Casey.
“So you are gonna explain to us? That’s a shame, I wanted to press every single one of your buttons.” April playfully huffed.
“Looks like I saved myself the trouble. Should we go and talk to the guys now? I’ll explain my actions on the way.” You chuckled at her and she nodded.
“Sure, we’re off of work anyways, let’s go to my car.” April smiles and takes out her keys.
“Finally some time with the guys.” Casey smiles to himself and walks along.
“Yea.” You try not to think so much about your encounter with Leo. Raph was right, I have to talk to him one of these days. ‘And thats today.’
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You and the ‘perfect’ couple arrived at the lair and helped them carry some books from the car. Donnie requested some of these from April and he might as well have a library. Coming back to a warm atmosphere that you missed, there was also some tension in this familiar place.
“You guys came!” Mickey was the first to see you three and gave each of you a hug, but yours was the longest. When Mickey pulled away from you, he gave you a big happy smile and you gave one back.
“Of course we did.” You nudged his shoulder with yours, careful not to drop the books. You guys walked to the dinner table to place the books down.
“So where’s Donnie?” April asked, sitting down while Casey went to an arcade machine.
“He’s in his lab but he’ll be out shortly.” Leo suddenly came into view from the training area they had. He was working up a sweat, and just Winter’s he was wearing a towel around his neck like he just got out of the shower. ‘Why do these men have to show up like this?’
“I might as well say ‘hi’ to Splinter while I’m at it.” You swiftly moved to where Splinter would most likely be. In his meditating room. You needed some type of voice to tell that things will get better.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Leo just stared at you walking to Splinter’s meditating room and sighed. Mikey, Casey and April gave Leo a sympathetic look. Seeing you both torn apart like this made them feel bad.
“That bad huh?” Raph came out from his room and jumped down near the dining table.
“Dude, maybe you should make the first move and talk to her.” Mikey suggested.
“Yeah, (Y/n) may be able to listen to you, just as long as you give her the chance to vent on everything she’s held on.” April agreed and gave Leo a reassuring smile.
“That’s if she wants to give in to that chance. Ya know, girls like (Y/n) live by the motto ‘treat people the way you want to be treated’ and I think that’s exactly what she’s doing.” Raph scoffs and Leo only glares at him.
“Let me guess, you gave her that advice.” Leo pulls the towel down away from his neck. April and Mikey can only watch as the two opposite brothers try to square up.
“Oh please, you wrecked the stable relationship you two had. I told her to patch things up with you quickly so that it can just be you and me in the ring.” Raph stood tall with the toughest glare he could give his eldest brother. Sure, Raph was willing to fight his brother one-on-one but it was just downright low to hurt your relationship with Leo in the process. He’d never do that to you or Leo no matter how mad he was at him.
“Guys, cool it.” April stood up slightly and Mikey stood closer to April in case a fight broke out between his brothers. Casey stopped whatever he was playing and stared at the tense scene. He doesn’t want his friends fighting, but he could try to rip them apart from each other.
“The books are here, thanks guys, I appreciate it!” Donnie came into the tense room with a cup of coffee in his hand. Everyone was thankful that Donnie came on time to end the tension. Raph scoffed and left the room while Leo glared at his exit. Everyone let out a breath they were keeping in and Donnie was just confused.
“What did I miss?” Donnie asked the other three and Mikey leaned close enough for him to hear.
“One word, (Y/n).” Mikey said low and discreet enough to make sure he understood. Donnie quickly caught on to the drama.
“Anyways! How about we start with opening these books, shall we?” April insisted to change the subject and Donnie happily agreed. Mikey went to his skateboarding ramp and Casey went back to his game. Leo calmly brought his breathing and anger level down, making his way to his room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You cautiously entered Splinters calm area and the vibe in the room instantly took you over. Breathing out calmly, you walk towards Splinter and he slowly opens his eyes.
“My child, it’s been a while. How are you?” Splinter says gently and gestures you to sit down. He’s been nothing but a sweetheart to you, even if he hasn’t for days. Sometimes you feel guilty for not visiting him more often.
“I’ve been well, I missed you alot Splinter.” You responded and sat down in front of the table. He takes out two tea cups and pours tea on each of them calmly.
“I’ve missed you too my child. I know you’ve been a busy woman. Tell me, are you having any hardships. You know you're always welcome to stay here whenever you like.” Splinter gives you a soft smile, hiding how much he worries about your well being like a father would. Your heart melts for his worries. You wonder what you’ve done to earn a father figure like this, even your own father doesn’t really think about you when he should.
“I’m doing pretty well. My job is paying me well enough and rarely any hardships, but thank you for your offer and concern.” You smiled reassuringly at him. Splinter smiles and drinks his tea, satisfied that your well. You drink as well and your eyes land on a picture beside him. The first picture of everyone together.
“You still have it?” You smiled to yourself and stared at the picture. Splinter looks at the picture and smiles at it.
“Yes, the very first picture of a complete family. I became really happy with how much you’ve all grown since then.” Splinter smiles adoringly at the family photo.
“I was really a rookie back then, still learning right from wrong. Wow, I was so naive” You chuckled and Splinter joined.
“You may have been naive and a ‘rookie’, but to me you’ve given us more to learn.” Splinter smiles at you with appreciation. You tilt your head by the credit he gave you.
“I don’t think I’ve given you guys more to learn.” You were confused, you’ve actually learned more from them than they did from you.
“Well, my sons have learned very important things from you. Reminding them that together we can all be stronger. Helping them realize that finding love comes from within first.” Splinter drinks his tea, his description made you realize what this was about.
“Basically, I should be talking to Leo, shouldn’t I.” You traced the rim of the tea cup, in thought.
“I didn’t imply anything, my child. I know you have your reasons, and reasons should be heard.” He gently put his cup down and poured more tea. Splinter was right, even though he hasn’t explained his words specifically. You and Leo have been separated enough, if the last thing you could do was listen to why he did what he did, then maybe you can both at least go on from the heartbreak.
“Your right, it should. Thank you, Splinter.” You put the cup down and left with determination. Splinter drank his tea and smiled to himself. ‘Finally.’
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Leo was just meditating in his dark room with candle lights around him. He breathes in and out, his mind clearing and feeling relaxed. Yet, everytime he tries to clear his mind, you always show up instead. The memories of the two of you, the history of how you met him and his brothers. He screwed up big time when he sent you that letter, he can only imagine how hurt you were.
These arguments with Raph made him realize that he hurt you more than intended. He tensed up a bit when his door was opened without knocking. Taking a deep breath in and out, he sighed and rubbed his temple. “Listen Raph. If you're gonna come in here to penalize with more yelling, then you should leave cause I’m not in the mood.”
“It’s not Raph.” Your voice interrupted his frustrated thoughts. Leo froze for a second and composed himself. He stood up and turned around, surprised that you even made the move to come into his room.
“(Y-Y/n), hey, I thought you were Raph. N-Not that you look like him, I mean- I assumed-You know what, I’m just surprised.” Leo quickly faltered again and you raised an eyebrow at him, amused by how nervous he was.
“I guess that makes two of us. Listen, I just wanted to talk, if you're not busy.” You took the first step and closed his door.
“Sure, I’m not really busy right now.” Leo sat on his bed and patted a spot next to him. You accepted the seat and crossed your legs on his bed. You really missed the comfortable feeling.
“I’m sorry.” Leo started before you can even ask. You faced him and were confused. He continued, “I never wanted you to be so hurt this way. I just thought it would be easier for you to make something better out of your life than just me.” He explained with a sigh. That explanation just spiked up your anger.
“What do you mean by that? You think you can just decide ‘what’s better’ for my life?” You snapped and frowned. Leo flinched but he knew he deserved it so he stayed composed.
“Your right, I had no right to decide that for you, and I know that it’s a low excuse for a break up. But just look at my point of view for a second, I’m a mutant, meaning that my life choices are so limited that it almost seems impossible to have a normal life.” Leo confessed his insecurities but you were still mad.
“Leo, I knew what I signed up for the moment you asked me out. I even imagined the whole relationship between us when I only had a crush on you, but now you're overthinking about that?” You fumed, standing up and facing him with crossed arms.
“Yes I am. You deserve more than me (Y/n).” Leo says sternly and stands up as well. You can’t believe he was saying this.
“What? You're just gonna give up on me when things get tough in your future plans?” You’re not gonna stand down, now he deserves to hear everything he put you through. “After all we’ve been through, you're willing to throw that all away just because our future won’t be normal for me? I call bullshit. I just can’t believe you set me up for the fall.” You started to raise your voice at him.
“If anything, I’m giving you higher options to have a better future.” Leo reasoned while raising his voice a bit, slightly losing his cool.
“Oh sure, yea, let me just thank you for thinking about my future. Real eye-opening of you to realize that you were and always will be a mutant. You know what, I should go ahead and show my appreciation to you by looking for a mutant girl to give you a promising future.” Your sarcasm hit him and now he frowns at the last part.
“I don’t have anyone else, if that’s what you're suggesting.” Leo gritted his teeth. This isn’t how he thought the conversation would go at all.
“Well, damn Leo! Why else would you break up with me through a letter while you’re in Central America?! It’s either that or I’m not good enough for you.‘Thinking about your future’ my ass!” You retorted with a glare.
“I don’t want you to regret being stuck with me after you realize all the options you had beforehand! I never want to be the reason why you can’t have a good career, a child, or a wedding. I know what I can offer...and it isn’t good enough for you.” Leo’s frustration faded into sadness. Your anger subsided into some guilt and sighed softly to yourself.
You analyzed the situation and blamed some of it on yourself for blowing the conversation into an argument. He had some fault in it too and he knows it. You weren’t a mutant, but you can understand the pressure he feels for trying to give you everything he obviously can’t. Then again, that doesn’t excuse him to let you go so easily, not without knowing how much it hurt you.
“Leo, I love you so much,” He instantly looked into your eyes surprised, “ and I’m sorry, for not giving you enough strength during our relationship.” Leo was about to oppose until you stopped him.
“(Y/-” “No, let me finish. I’ve always told you that ‘I’m so happy that I have you with me.’ This past year has been hell without you. You don’t even know how much I missed you. I mean, look at me! I haven’t slept well until I found out you came back home.” You pointed out the bag under your eyes. Leo started walking closer to you until you stopped him by putting a hand on his chest.
“If you never trusted those words to heart, then it’s pointless...to both of us.” You finished and turned around to leave with tears collecting in your eyes. Leo called out for you but you ignored him. You even ignored everyone else’s concerned expressions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You went out of the sewer and walked around the rooftop. Leo may have some insecurities but you’ve always given him reassurance that you will always be by his side. You went above and beyond for him, so why did he still doubt it? If he was gonna give up then so were you..no matter how much it hurts you.
“(Y/n)?” Raph appeared behind you so suddenly that you turned around without wiping your eyes. “What the hell happened??” Raph jumped down and took his Nightwatcher helmet off.
“J-just went to finally talk to Leo. It’s fine really, things didn’t go as well as I hoped.” You wiped your eyes and gave him a reassuring smile.
Raph frowns and huffs, “That's what you call fine? Stay here, I’m gonna go knock some sense into him.” Raph starts to walk away with his duffle bag and you hold onto his arm.
“Raph no. Just don’t..” You felt a lump in your throat. You couldn’t say another word, cause it would just break you down again. Raph looked at your fragile form and sighed in irritation. All he wanted was for you to be happy with Leo. Sure, he and Splinter Junior have a lot to fix, even if it turns into another physical fight. You don’t look like you can take it anymore, you can barely hold on at this point.
Raph pulled you in for a hug and rubbed your back. You immediately broke down and held on to him. He’s had to console you so many times, so he wasn’t as awkward as the first time. You feel bad that Raph has to be the one to help you through this mess, he didn’t need this.
“Listen, I gotta do some Night Watcher patrol. Mind being my sidekick for tonight?” Raph cleared his throat and asked awkwardly. You snorted at his change of subject. He was still awkward at times. You pulled away and wiped your tears.
“Sure, I’m doing camera duty tho.” You accepted with a chuckle. Raph gave a small smile and put his helmet back on.
“Whatever you say, kid.” Raph makes you follow him to his bike.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Leo was in all sorts of emotion. Anger, regret, guilt, sadness. None of these are what he wants at all. Not the rival between him and Raph, and sure as hell not a fight between him and (Y/n). All he wanted was to come back to a complete home, but obviously it wasn’t gonna go that way. Splinter was right, we can’t be expected to continue with our lives as long as we’re fighting each other. Which is why he’s searching for Raph. He needs to talk to him and clear the air.
VROOOOM
‘Or maybe that could wait.’ Leo follows the direction of that well known disruptive motorcycle.
“I guess it’s time to introduce myself, Nightwatcher.”
i still hear your voice in the traffic (we’re laughing)
Tony promised Peter he'd teach him to drive, he's not here anymore though. (or Happy and Peter talk about Tony and Nat over a steering wheel)
AO3 link WC: 2, 466
tw: brief suicide mention, not of Peter or the Avengers though
Peter was now 16 years old.
It was about 8 months after Tony and Nat had both sacrificed themselves to bring back the lost half of the world and defeat Thanos. That 50% of the population that had turned to dust were all back and so many people were reunited with their loved ones, which would have been great.
Except it was overlooked that so many people hadn’t had that luxury.
There was one of Peter’s neighbors, he was in college the last time he’d seen him. Anyways, his moms lived together and Peter always saw him around visiting them and bringing them dinner and flowers. Apparently they had both been blipped which left him an orphan in college. They never got to see him graduate and he had killed himself not even 2 weeks after the ceremony.
The suicide rates had shot up a lot during those years, so many people had quite literally vanished and it was impossible to stay hopeful when there was absolutely nothing they could hold on to and a lot of people saw suicide as the only solution.
But when those dusted people came back, the people they seeked out in the crowds were gone, already long lost.
May told him when the parents had been brought back and everything had settled, they’d gone around looking for anyone who’d know where their son was, May was the one who had to tell them before they drove themselves crazy looking. May had to tell them that the kid who’d always bring home the pasta he knew they liked and the chocolate bars he knew were their favorites, was gone, and that was just one story.
Honestly from what Peter had heard, during those 5 years, it had been like watching an empire collapse all around you and you being stuck in the middle with no way to help, just constricted to seeing everything around fall into rubble on the ground and collect into towers of misery and ash.
There was a part of Peter that was overjoyed that he hadn’t been one to stick around because without MJ and Ned who were also dusted, he doesn’t know what he’d do, another huge part of Peter wished he had stuck around (not that he had had a choice), just so he could help everyone else, so he could have talked every single person who had to live through that and just fix all of their problems because that must have sucked beyond anything he could ever imagine.
And Peter knows he hasn’t lost as many people as most because others lost everything, their families, their friends.
But he lost Tony.
He lost another person who he thought he could protect and who he, naive as he is, thought he would have forever.
But he messed up.
And he messed up bad, because now Tony had an incredible daughter Morgan who didn’t have her dad anymore because Peter had to stand by uselessly and cry while he listened to Tony’s heart stutter to a hard stop.
Pepper didn’t have her husband, Rhodey and Happy didn’t have their best friend, and the world didn't have their Iron Man.
(And Peter didn’t have his Tony)
Happy was supposed to take him driving later and Peter has been stalling for months now. It's not because he doesn’t wanna know how to drive because he definitely does, that would be awesome, but Tony promised him he’d teach him to drive and he’d let him take one of his fancy cars for a spin and going without him felt wrong, like when you lose a tooth and there’s a weird new gap there that's not supposed to be there.
Tony had promised he’d teach him.
He was not going to be able to wriggle his way out of this one though, his excuses just kept getting flimsier and flimsier.
“Hey Peter want me to take you driving later” “Shoot, I wish, but I have a decathlon meet”
“Are you free later to go for a ride?” “Sorry, I have a test I need to study for”
“You still need to learn how to use the shifts, Pete” “I know, I know, but I wanted to get some extra patrolling in tonight”
Happy had actually brought the issue up in person once, “Kid, it’s fine if you don’t wanna learn but is there a reason? You used to always talk about learning to drive.”
He had mumbled a quick excuse and sprinted out of there.
His entire class already knew how to drive and everyone was always carpooling to each other's houses but Peter could care less. He only hung with Ned and Mj for the most part, so it never really affected him anyways.
Another thing was he felt like he was letting May down, because he knows she really wants him to get his license, but every time he tries to even think about it he feels nauseous, like he just dropped on a roller coaster.
Knock knock
The nausea was back.
Peter reluctantly shrugged on his jacket and opened the door to the apartment.
“Hey Happy,” he waved. He was pretty sure Happy could see something was wrong, but he hasn’t said anything yet.
“Hey kiddo, you ready to go?” he asked.
Peter nodded and stepped briskly out the door.
Happy was driving them to some empty parking lot to get him started off with and the ride was pretty much silent except for when Happy asked if May was home, Peter had said no, May had taken an extra shift and was still at work. Then Happy asked if he was feeling alright and pressed a cool hand to his forehead to check his temperature, Peter easily brushed him off and changed the subject as he tried not to fidget.
They pulled into the lot and switched seats once they’d parked, Happy gave him another quick run through of the gears and shifts even though he’d already heard this a dozen times and had him drive through the parking spaces setting up a path for him to go through.
“You know, if you really don’t want to do this, it’s fine Pete, right?”, Happy said from the passenger's seat.
He knows that, and he knows Happy would be fine if he told him the truth, if he told him that even the thought of driving made him go dizzy and he knows Happy would understand but it seemed like he was the only one still hooked on this. Everyone else seemed fine at family game nights and when they’d all get together for dinner, but every time Peter felt tears well up because Nat wasn’t there to absolutely demolish them in Jenga and Tony wasn't there to outsmart his way to the top of every monopoly round, the gaps were everywhere taking up no space and yet so much at the same time.
He’d see pictures taken recently of everyone and the first thing his mind would go to was who wasn’t in that picture? Who was missing from the picture because of stupid Thanos (or because Peter wasn’t good enough to have helped save them-)?
Peter tightened his grip on the steering wheel, “It’s fine, I can do this,”.
Happy still looked unsure but he let him go ahead, driving slowly through the spaces and twisting through the planters spaced throughout.
After a while Happy helped him drive onto the street and showed him what to do at the lights and gave him little tips about whenever he turned.
How to turn your blinker on.
Those were the windshield wipers.
Something about the rearview mirror…
And suddenly there were the sounds of horns honking and Happy was reaching over and jerking the steering wheel, pulling them out of the center of the road where- where Peter had almost slammed into another car.
Shit
Happy, still leaned over him, steered them both to the side as Peter stayed frozen clutching the edges of the seat with white knuckles.
The cold fist around his heart was suddenly squeezing the second they were parked on the side of the road, he was sobbing before Happy could even ask what the hell just happened.
He had almost hit another car.
That person could have died and it would’ve been his fault.
There could’ve been a family in that car.
His fault, again.
Where was Tony?
Words practically tumbled out of his mouth, the elaborately built wall holding everything in just broke and his mouth was moving against his will between each separate sob.
“I’m sorry, I-I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to” Peter gasped, it felt like a vacuum had come and sucked up every ounce of oxygen, because he could not breathe.
Happy was staring at him in confusion, really worried, probably because Peter had almost hurt another person.
“Jesus, kid, it’s alright, okay? It’s alright, see we’re both fine, nothing happened” Happy’s brows are tense as he watches Peter crumble.
His face fell as he watched Peter cry, “There was a reason you didn’t want to come out here, wasn’t there?”
Peter’s breathing is everywhere as he gives a harsh nod, refusing to lift his eyes up to meet Happy’s.
“Tony said- he promised he’d show me how to d-drive”
Tony’s voice in his head, laughing as Peter bonked his head on the lab table in his excitement before asking if he was alright.
“and N-Nat said once I got my license, s-she’d let me drive her to her favorite restaurant and you k-know she hates letting other people drive her” Peter choked, “She said we could get ice cream after”
Nat’s favorite restaurant was the Syrian place with the majestic Arabic letters painted inside on the walls, she loved the frozen yogurt place where it was self-serve and she could load it with as many boba bubbles and chocolate chips as she wanted.
The first time they’d trained together, she had let him win, after the match he’d told her to not underestimate him, she’d only lost 2 more times after that.
MJ was nervous to talk to Nat at first, and MJ was never nervous, after though, they’d talk all the time and it was immediately decided that they were probably one of the most terrifying and badass duos to ever walk the Earth.
Happy was still watching him in a frozen silence, “Tony told me h-he’d let me take his old red car for a drive, and we’d always l-laugh and talk about which car suited me b-est” a new set of tears was coming, “He kept saying he’d get me the best car there was and I always said you don’t have to because I wanted to earn it, myself” his breath hitched again and his next sentence was practically squeezed out of him, “He always said I’ve already earned it”
Tony and him laughing in the lab and dancing to the music FRIDAY had put on for them. Pepper coming down and just watching wearily with a smile as something caught on fire and they both ran around like idiots trying to put it out.
Somehow, he always ended up sleeping on Tony during movie night and the team had an abundance of pictures in the album with them.
Tony claiming he burned everything he cooked, but making pasta that could rival anyone’s anyways.
Peter calling him after a nightmare and just talking until he eventually fell asleep.
He and Ned had worshiped him growing up and even after meeting him a gazillion times, Ned still stared with wide eyes as he walked away, because he was Tony Stark, he was Iron Man for god’s sake. The shock of it never got old, Peter felt the same most of the time.
“Happy-”, another hitch, “Happy, they’re both gone” Peter finally looked up at him and did a double-take when he realized there were shining tears in his eyes, and the older man was looking at him with a conflicted look, but Peter needed to finish this first.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I couldn't help or do anything-” he takes in a shuddering breath and Happy looks mad, why was he mad?
“Peter, you’re going to listen to me when I say this” Peter nods confirmation and Happy’s voice is a lot softer, “It wasn’t your fault, none of it was, at all, I promise. Tony did everything he did for you, kid I-” Happy coughed, trying to subtly wipe the tear that fell, “Do you know how devastated he was every time your name would pop up on the missing or he saw a picture of you? The first months, we’d have to drag him out of his lab, kicking and screaming because he was still trying to find ways to bring you back.” Peter shut his eyes, trying not to imagine the horrific scene.
“When he had Morgan he was so worried he’d mess up and he’d always tell us about how happy you would be if you knew you had a sister. He didn’t want to lose Morgan because he’d already lost you, he thought with Morgan he had a second chance and I know he never ever stopped thinking about you.” Happy looked wistful, and his gaze may have been on Peter but it was obvious he wasn’t really seeing him.
Happy breathed in, closing his eyes, “And Nat, well that girl was one hard kick. You know the first time I met her she flipped be over, I had bruises that lasted weeks”
Peter huffs, trying a laugh, “That seems like Nat”
“She talked about you too, a lot, she was pretty fond of you, talking about how awesome you were. I remember in the first few years where you were gone, she’d always be down in the training room but I never once saw her actually training. You were one of her favorite people to spar with and she worked around the clock trying to bring everyone back. You were a part of her family, we all were.” Happy zeroes in on him again, “Tony and Nat were alike in a lot of ways, but one of the big ones was they both loved you, kid. Those two are peas in a pod and I have never seen them look as proud as they were when they looked at you, it’s not your fault they’re gone. They knew the risks and what it would take to bring you back”
Peter listened, numb, as Happy’s words echoed through his head dully, bouncing, back and forth, back and forth.
They both loved you, kid.
It’s not your fault.
Happy squeezed his shoulder, blinking his irritated eyes, “Let’s go get some food, kid. We can finish the driving lessons some other time.”
33,30,36 from the first smutty prompts with royal!tom being kinda jealous of another guy whi tries to hook his girlfriend up
“You heard me. Take. It. Off.”
“I’m gonna fuck you so hard that you forget you ever even met that asshole.”
“If I have to pull over, you won’t be able to walk for the next week.“
yo it’s literally been over a MONTH and I still haven’t answered this skdjdhsh I’m so sorry ahh but here it is!! in one of your other asks you said I could choose mob!tom or royal!tom so I did it for mob!tom I hope that’s okay!!! also this is the first mob au I’ve ever written soooo :))
“Tom, slow down,” you said with a sigh, trying not to roll your eyes.
“What was he thinking?” Tom spat, not acknowledging what you had just said. He gripped the steering wheel even harder.
You watched as his knuckles began to turn white and rubbed his arm soothingly. “Baby, take a deep breath. Relax.”
He just shrugged you off and cursed at the car in front of him.
“Don’t fucking tell me to relax.”
“It’s not a big deal, Tommy.”
He actually turned his head towards you and looked at you this time. “You’re joking.”
You shrugged sheepishly. “I’ve had worse.”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?”
You winced, knowing you’d probably made it worse and that Tom was likely now picturing the grimy hands of ill-intentioned strangers all over your body.
“I should have him killed,” he snarled.
To most, that threat would sound completely ridiculous or utterly insane, but your fiancé was the head of the London mob-the South West branch anyway- and he was no stranger to violence. Having someone killed would be as easy as snapping his fingers.
You scoffed to call his bluff.
“You think I won’t?” he challenged and you groaned.
“You promised you were done with that.”
It’s true, one of the conditions of your engagement had been that Tom agree to put the more sinister side of his business to rest, and although you trusted him, in all honesty, you weren’t sure how well he was upholding his end of the deal.
“I’d make an exception.”
“Well don’t. I don’t want some poor guy’s blood on my hands.”
At that, the car screeched to a stop right in the middle of the freeway. The cars behind you honked and flashed their lights at Tom as they maneuvered to avoid a collision.
You huffed in frustration, wanting to bang your head against the dashboard. This was exactly why you didn’t like for Tom to drive himself: he pulled dangerous shit all the time like this. Literally, all of his other men had drivers who took them places and you desperately wished Tom would hire someone, but he insisted that it was safest if he was the one driving (yet here you were in the middle of the highway).
“You could’ve fucking killed us!” you shouted, more annoyed than anything.
Tom took a deep breath. “I’m sorry. But y/n, he’s not just some poor guy.”
“He was trying to get a rise out of you, Tom. He fucking hates you, of course, he’d go after me, and he was drunk.”
Tom narrowed his eyes at you, foot still pressed firmly on the brake. “That’s not a fucking excuse, you of all people should know that. Why are you trying to defend him?”
“I’m not trying to defend him, I’m just saying he doesn’t deserve to die. Can we please just get home?”
Tom relented and put the car back into motion making you breathe a sigh of relief.
Even though he didn’t say anything else you could tell his mind was still going a thousand miles a minute. You watched him chew at his lip in silence and wondered what was going on in that beautiful head of his. Nothing good, you could be sure of that.
Tom’s mind was darker than most. Occupational hazard. He carried so much pain that you hadn’t known about when you first met him. He’d let you in slowly, keeping you at arm’s length for months, until he almost lost you. And then he knew he couldn’t keep things from you anymore. It was still a challenge to understand his thought process sometimes, but you liked it that way. How could a ruthless, power-hungry mobster also be the most loving, family-oriented person you’d ever met in your life? How could someone who dropped a grand on a dinner like it was nothing secretly rather spend one more night picnicking with crappy Chinese food on the bedroom floor in your old apartment? You couldn’t think of an answer, and you didn’t want to.
The guy at the bar tonight had been some rival of Tom’s. You hadn’t seen him before, but you could tell because when Tom got up to get the two of you more drinks he swooped in and laid it on heavy. He looped one arm around your waist and placed his other hand on your knee and began attempting to seduce you. Sure, you were uncomfortable but more than anything you were angry. And tired. Tired of being used as bait, something to get to Tom.
You didn’t want to make a scene so you listened to the asshole talk about how much better he’d treat you than Tom until your fiancé eventually returned with your drinks in hand, face beet red, eyes dark with anger.
The man, you never caught his name, left the bar with a broken nose. Tom left with bruised knuckles. You’d thought it would end at that, but of course, once Tom got started it was hard for him to stop. It was a gift in the bedroom, but a curse in the rest of your life.
Then, so softly you almost didn’t hear it, Tom broke the silence in the car and said “I know what he said to you,” and it all clicked.
Normally, a hand on your shoulder, thigh, ass was enough to set Tom off, but combine that with the filthy words he’d undoubtedly overheard spilling from the man’s lips… no wonder all he could see was red.
“Tom I-“
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I didn’t want to start something.”
“Start something? Is that true? Or do you think he’s right?”
“No, of course not.”
“Do you think he can satisfy you better than I can?”
“Tom!”
“Well do you?”
You shook your head and rubbed your thighs together, fighting a shiver. As irritating as Tom’s jealousy could be, the effect it had on you was even more infuriating. The man could already turn you on without doing anything and whenever he started acting a little jealous it was game over for you. It was pathetic, really.
“Why the fuck did he even think it was okay to look at you, let alone touch you?”
“I don’t know,” you shrugged finally settling in to play the game. “These big dudes with huge muscles just think they can have whoever they want.”
Tom whipped his head back towards you. “What did you say?”
You ignored him. “I mean he definitely wouldn’t be as good as you, but he could do some damage.” Tom was full-on glaring at you now, and you wanted to tell him to keep his eyes on the road, but you couldn’t give up so fast. “I mean, just one of his hands could probably wrap around my whole neck. Like they were giant, and you know what they say about guys with big hands-“
“Do you think this is funny?”
Any sane person wouldn’t even think about taunting Tom like this, not with his reputation, but you couldn’t be sane to be with someone like Tom anyway, and besides, you knew he was a big softie at heart.
“A little,” you admitted. “You look really hot right now.”
He really did. His hair was tousled with silver highlights from the moonlight streaming in through the windshield, his creamy skin was flushed with adrenaline, and his white button-up was unbuttoned just a few times to show off his collarbone. You bit your lip. You were so fucking weak.
“That’s not going to work.”
“No?” You quirked an eyebrow and leaned over the console to see that he was already more than half hard in his dress pants. “Because it looks like it’s working.” You reached over and began to palm him through his trousers, smirking when he cursed and rolled his neck at the contact.
“Y/n, if I have to pull over, you’re not going to be able to walk for the next week.”
Oh no, that’d be horrible you thought to yourself and rolled your eyes. He had to know that’s what you secretly wanted, right? Right? Why were men so stupid?
Either way, you took your hand back and moved it up under the hem of your dress to where you were feeling a little desperate for some friction. You sighed deeply when you rubbed yourself over your panties, not even surprised at how wet you were.
“Fuck,” you hissed out and hiked your legs up onto the seat so you could give Tom a better view.
“Stop that.”
He said it so forcefully that you froze, fingers hovering over your panties, about to pull them to the side. Then you smiled.
“No.” You went ahead and did it anyway, slipping two fingers inside of yourself easily.
You weren’t one to defy Tom often, especially when it came to what he asked of you in the bedroom, but you knew how crazy it drove him and just couldn’t resist.
Tom groaned, trying and failing to maintain an angry expression. His eyes betrayed an absolutely sinful lust that made you want to melt and you wished more than anything he’d just pull the fucking car over.
“Fuck, Tom,” you gasped, “I wish these were your fingers, you’re so good with your fingers.”
“Yeah? You sure you wish they’re my fingers? Not someone else’s?”
You shook your head vigorously. “Never. You’re the only one who knows how to make me cum that hard.”
“Is that what you want? To cum hard?”
“God, yes,” you moaned, pumping your fingers in and out of you faster.
“Take off your dress.”
“What?” you weren’t sure if you’d heard him right, you were still driving down the highway after all.
“You heard me. Take. It. Off.”
Not wanting to push your luck any further you didn’t hesitate to listen this time and pulled the loose fabric up and over your head.
“Good girl,” he praised and you whined. You were still wearing your bra and underwear and as much as you’d love to flash oncoming traffic, you hoped Tom wouldn’t ask you to take them off.
“You can touch yourself,” he said and you complied, knowing it was more of an instruction than an allowance.
It felt good, really good, but you still wished it was him instead of you.
“Fuck, darling you look so beautiful like that, God, I can’t believe I get to marry you.”
“If, you stop, killing people,” you managed to get out through gritted teeth and Tom laughed.
“I’m not going to kill him, love. I made a promise. You’re too important to risk losing, even if he is a fucking prick.”
You whimpered, the mixture of complete head-over-heels love you felt for Tom and pleasure making you crumble.
“Don’t worry, love,” he said, reaching over and taking you by the wrist, stalling your movements just as you were about to fall over the edge. “I’m gonna fuck you so hard you’ll forget you ever met that asshole.”
1k celebration
I’m working on it ♡ [daddy’s prompt]
Things had been a little complicated at the Deschaine home since Declan’s release. Their lives hadn’t been the picture perfect imagine Savanna had drawn up for them. It was hard for her to understand why her father and mother weren’t getting back together. It was even harder for her to understand why they couldn’t all live under the same roof. Declan still came by to pick the kids up to spend time with them, but he wasn’t allowed inside and he wasn’t allowed to be in close proximity to Victoria.
A car horn in the driveway signaled Declan’s arrival. It was his day with the kids. “Savanna! Timothy! Your father is here. Please get your things.” Vic called up the stairs. Homework was already finished, but both children had a bag with their games, art supplies, toys, and snacks. Savanna’s bag also contained her beloved teddy bear. She couldn't go anywhere without him.
“Are we sleepin’ at daddy’s house t’nite?” Savvy asked. She was the first one down the stairs for a change. Usually it was Timothy, but they hadn’t seen Declan in almost a week and Savvy missed spending time with him. He certainly wasn’t perfect… (no Deschaine was) but he was their father and the kids loved him no matter what people around town said about him.
“Not tonight, Butterfly. You and your brother have school in the morning. Mommy has to run a few errands so daddy is going to take you to dinner.” Victoria explained to her youngest. Timmy came down to join them shortly after. Declan honked again in case they didn’t hear him the first time. “Be good.” Vic said as she kissed both children on the forehead. She watched them get in the car from the doorway and waved them off as Declan pulled out of the driveway.
Quiet moments like this were few and far between, but she missed the chaos when the kids weren’t home.
---------------
“Where are we goin’ ta eat, daddy?” Savanna asked as she bucked her seatbelt with Teddy secured in her arms. “Mommy said yer takin’ us ta dinner.” The little brunette beamed. Limbo was a small town, so there weren’t many options as far as dinner was concerned. Declan left the destination up to the children. “Where do you two wanna eat.” Without hesitation, Timmy and Savanna said in unison, “Dine ‘n Dash.” The diner was one of their favorite locations because they had food both kids would eat, and their desserts were to die for. “Dine ‘n Dash it is then.” Declan agreed.
---------------
“I wanna sit with daddy.” Savanna said as they entered the diner. Usually the kids argued about which one of them got the window seat in their favorite booth, but this time Savvy didn’t care as long as she got to sit with her dad. Timmy didn’t protest. He was already making himself right at home.
“I already know what I’m gonna get.” The little boy grinned. “What’s that, pal?” DC asked. It was in that moment he realized that he didn’t really know his children. Victoria knew them all better than she knew herself, but Declan was still learning what their likes and dislikes were. He missed out on so much while he was in prison and he was trying his best to make up for that now.
“I’m gonna get a bacon cheeseburger an’ fries.” Timothy replied confidently. His order was usually the same every time they went out to dinner. He was consistent. “Good choice.” DC smirked while he reached across the table to ruffle his son’s hair. “What’a ‘bout you, lil’ lady?” His attention shifted to Savanna. She was studying the menu, trying to decide which of her favorites she was going to order. “What are you gonna get, daddy?” She asked with an arched brow. She was still trying to figure out what he liked just like he was still trying to figure out what she and Timmy liked.
---------------
When the waitress came to bring drinks for the table, Declan placed dinner orders for everyone. Savanna settled on chicken tenders, her usual, and french fries. DC and Timmy both opted for burgers making sure they’d have enough room for dessert. “Daddy…” Savanna spoke as she colored the placemat that was set in front of her. “Are you ever gonna live with me, Timmy, and mommy?”
The question sounded so simple...The answer was anything but. In all honesty, Declan wasn’t sure if that would ever be a possibility, but he was a Deschaine and Deschaine’s didn’t let things go without putting up a fight first. “I don’t know, babygirl.” He responded. If he had it his way, he would already be living with them. That had been his original plan when he was released from prison. He hadn’t given it much thought since.
Nothing had gone according to plan since his release. Things between him and Victoria were complicated. They both still loved each other, that much was evident, but she deserved more than he was willing to give. Vic had already filed for divorce. She signed the papers. Declan was the roadblock. A piece of him (as small as that was) hoped things would change...That Vic would change her mind for the sake of their kids, but the reality was, she was doing this for them.
“Well…” Savvy spoke again. “...I wish you an’ mommy lived in the same house with us...cause we miss you.” He could hear the sadness in her tone. “Me too, lil one. I’m workin’ on it.” He promised. It wasn’t the first empty promise he made to his kids, but instead of Ransom and Dottie, it was Timmy and Savanna this time. They had been shielded from his angry side as much as possible so it was hard for them to understand why things couldn’t work out like they wanted. The situation was too grown up for them to comprehend.
“Is that why mommy has been so sad?” The little girl questioned. “Cause she misses ya too?” Declan wasn’t sure how to respond. He couldn’t speak to Victoria’s happiness because he was no longer the reason she smiled. Too much time had passed. They spent too much of their lives apart for things to just fall back into place. “I wish she could’a come ta dinner with us.” Timothy chimed in. He figured that some time together as a family might fix things, but Vic’s decision didn’t happen overnight. It was something she had been thinking about for a long time. Her happiness had to come first, for once.
Declan was just about to speak again when their dinners arrived. He dodged a bullet. Taking the kids to dinner was supposed to be so he could get to know them better, not talk about things that were beyond their control. Changing the topic was the only way to derail this conversation.
“So…” He began with a mouth full of food. Savvy chuckled. Clearly Timmy had inherited this trait from his father even with Vic’s constant reminders not to speak with his mouth full. “How’s school?” It may have been the first time DC had ever taken an interest in what his children were doing in their personal lives. He knew Savanna and Timothy were smart. They had report cards taped to the refrigerator as proof. “School is good. We’re learnin’ long division.” Timmy beamed. He was good at math and the only one of the Deschaine's who actually enjoyed the subject. “We took’a test on Monday and I got the highest grade in my class.” Declan grinned. “Might need ya ta do my taxes.” He teased. Like Declan Deschaine ever filed taxes.
Savanna sat quietly and listened as she ate. It wasn’t like her to be so quiet. “What’a ‘bout you?” DC nudged her gently. “What’are you doin’ in school?” Reading and art were her best subjects. “I made ya a picture in art class.” She almost forgot until now. Savvy wiped her hands off on a napkin and dug through her coat pocket to show him. “This is for you ta hang up at home.” She flattened the drawing so he could get a better look at it. She had drawn a picture of the two of them at Disneyland.
Victoria and Dora had taken the kids to Disney for the first time over the summer. They both had the time of their lives and wanted so badly to go back, but with school in session, it wasn’t easy for them to pack up and go. Victoria didn’t want them to fall behind on classwork. “That’s you...me...an’ Mickey Mouse. We are waitin’ in line for Space Mountain.” The seven year old explained. “Do ya think we could go ta Disneyland, daddy? You, me, Timmy, Dottie, Ransom, an’ mommy? We could all go. It's not just for kids, ya know...” Another question that wasn’t easy for him to answer. The old Declan wouldn’t have given it another thought when it came to disappointing his family, but he was a changed man...even if Victoria didn’t want to believe it. Seeing the sad expression on his youngest’s face made his heart ache. “I’ll have ta talk ta yer mom ‘bout that…" He changed the subject again. "Ya better finish yer dinner if ya want dessert.”
Timothy was nearly done with his burger while Savvy barely touched her chicken. As much as he wanted to be the fun parent… Declan knew Victoria would kill him if he let their daughter have brownies and ice cream for dinner. “If ya eat half, I might share my dessert with ya.” He teased. “Daddy…. I don’t wanna share.” She giggled softly. “I want my own dessert.” A mischievous little smirk spread across her face. “But maybe if you eat half I’ll share with you.” She teased him back.
---------------
7:00pm
Dinner was over and the kids were restless. The sugar was kicking in. Maybe sweets this close to bedtime wasn’t the best idea, but who was DC to deny them when it made them so happy? He’d deal with any punishment Victoria threw at him for this. She wasn’t expecting them to be home for another hour, so Declan hoped they’d burn off the extra energy before then.
“Can we go ‘ta the arcade, dad? Please?” Timothy begged. It had been months since he and Savanna had been to The Coin Slot. “Yea, daddy! Can we? Pleeeeease?” Savvy chimed in. How was he supposed to say no when they were looking at him with big doe eyes? “They got’a shootin’ game that I’m really good at.” The little girl added. She almost held the top score which was something she had been extremely proud of. Victoria, on the other hand… It gave her anxiety knowing her youngest was so good at a game that was so violent.
Savanna was her father’s daughter. There was no denying it. A Deschaine through and through.
