The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. Group artwork reflecting upon present-day pop culture.
We used a collage app/site called Piclay, to create a collage of contemporary consumer brands and products. It’s interesting to look at how the taste of branding has developed over time. Within post-structuralism a historic view of cultural concepts, how have they changed over time? If we look at artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, there's a huge leap from the pop art style use of blocky, bold colours which has been adapted into fashion branding, such as the Iceberg Collection (2001) inspired by his vibrant works. In comparison, Structuralism, the systematic patterns and structures that can be found across western culture, the brands such as Maybelline, Apple and Kit Kat had all changed their branding image over time to appeal to whatever is popular at the current time.
Our poster image asks the question ‘What does it cost you?’ meaning are we too enticed and persuaded by how brands use popular culture? Surely using specific marketing techniques to lure in consumers comes with a price? Whether that be consumers money, or whether that be a brand ‘selling out’ to fit into societal needs and desires. Or perhaps brands are playing upon social issues such as diversity, disability, LGBTQ communities, mental health etc to push their brand into our modern social awareness and acceptance of all people. But could we argue that this is an exploitation of the struggles people face in their daily lives? What does branding and advertisement of products have to do with anybody’s personal issues? There seems to be a forced political agenda within branding in modern times, which to a certain degree shows the amazing growth of how far our society has come over the years, but is this not becoming unnaturally strained out?

what do you use to make these?
as of now, i Use seven different apps (nine if yoU coUnt pinterest and a web browser for finding the pictUres). i Use filterloop, piclab, and sketchmaster to edit, as well as aUtodesk sketchbook for maUally adding specific details that filters cant necessarily do alone. i Use piclay strictly to overlay two images, and to combine, i Use pic jointer and picsart. thank yoU so mUch for asking a qUestion! ^u^

I just kind of threw this together because I was watching the news about the California wildfires. I’m sort of smack dab in the middle of them all. So far, so good. But what struck me, was all the horses that have died. Just stick in their paddocks or roaming the country in masses of smoke and flames. Thank goodness nobody has died and it’s truly recasting to loose property. I cannot imagine. But the fear that must be in the minds of these beautiful and intelligent creatures is just so sad ( Mextures Piclay and lensfx) thank goodness for our fire fighters #californiawildfires (at California)
