So Phumpeem's kid Talay aka our baby sea~

Now Their first meet? If you remember I mentioned about a orphanage in my previous story well I had a plot in mind.

After phumpeem confesses love (Peem does it first cause he couldn't wait anymore...), Phum takes him to visit the orphanage that is like a 2nd home to phum. He once visited the orphanage with his dad for charity work and ever since then he would always visit it and spend time with the kids their, spoil them with gifts and play many games with them.

- Sea was a new kid, he was dropped off by a Child care organization, he was apparently lost and his parents never came back and over a few months later they received a letter saying they didn't want him anymore. Sea was too young, around 4 year old and didn't know what was happening, he was very quite and shy kid.

-Phumpeem went over to the orphanage one weekend for a stay, Phum introduced peem to the kids and slowly the kids warmed up to him too, while peem got busy with the kids, The Old man aka the handler of orphanage pulled phum aside to talk about Sea. Sea was in his assigned room, playing with one of the plushie given to him.

-Sea was very scared to socialize with the kids in orphanage, would only leave his room for lunch and dinner and if he needed something which was very rare. It had been over 4 months and he hasn't changed one a bit. He was very overwhelmed during the first month when the kids tried to talk to him, he would shy away. Phum heard everything about Sea and felt enraged at his parents and also sad for Sea. He knew how it felt, the new surrounding must be hard for him to adapt to.

-phum went over to meet him, he firstly observed Sea from the door, Sea was sitting on the bed hugging what seemed like a puppy plushie. He recognized the plushie cause he made that one (from my previous story if you remember). He slowly approached Sea. Trying to be as friendly as possible. Sea didn't push him away like he expected but he did seems to scoot away, making himself smaller in the bed.

-Phum tried to hold short conversations but barely received any answers, only slight nods or hums. But phum wasn't mad or disappointed, he knew how much hard it would be for Sea. Phum was very patient.

- "Do you wanna come and paint with Phi?" Phum asked in a calm tone. Observing seats reaction. The old man said Sea liked colouring and would ask for a new book in over a week every time. So he thought that might get the kid to open up a little. "Do you like drawing?" Phum asked. Sea only nodded in response. Phum smiled and proceed to ask questions, "Can you show phi your drawings, if you like?" Phum asked, making sure he wasn't pressurizing Sea.

-it took almost 2 hours of questioning and conversing and Sea was slowly opening up, answering in short words instead of just nodding, He showed his drawings to phum and Phum was quite surprised, The drawings were very well made for a 4 year old. He praised Sea alot and caught on the small smile and red ears of the kid. Phum felt good to make him happy.

-Sea was slowly warming up to phum, Over the course of 2 days, he got quite close to phum but still refused to leave his room. Phum understood and didn't force him out instead spent time in his room, drawing with him and even trying to make him laugh a little and he even managed to get a little giggle out of the kid, it was progress.

-Peem tried to meet sea but he was still wary of peem, not scared or anything but he would get closed off a little around peem, still not trusting him easily. Peem decided to let him be and skipped over to other kids and let phum handle Sea. Peem was happy to see his boyfriend helping the kid who seem to be awfully similar to him, he was endeared seeing phum's determination to make the kid happy and give him a perfect childhood.

-Phumpeem had a serious talk on Sunday night, the night before they were going to leave. Phum decided to take sea with him, to stay with him so he could help the kid better, Sea was really attached to His P'Phum, there was no doubt of it and phum was scared to leave the kid, it could make sea think that he was being abandoned again, and phum never wants the kid to feel like that again and after a lot of discussion, Phum decided that sea would stay with him in his condo.

-and that was the first step of Phumpeem with their little Sea~

feeling faint every time i look at this moment specifically. it's just so tender so loving so gentle. phum says peem treats him like a kid but there's just something so high romance in this small gesture to me. it's peem saying 'you've been quiet and im not sure how to deal with this side of you im not familiar with but whatever it is im here for you and i will keep you safe' and im honestly insane about it

Episode 7

Hold The Phone. His name is Kluen according to MDL played by KARATI PUANGMALEE aka TITLE.

Planning to meet Phum at Phum's request, Pheem (PHUWIN TANGSAKYUEN) calls Phum from a kiosk while buying a drink.

He is assaulted by Kluen...okay it wasn't assault just a case of mistaken identity. But smart Pheem uses the mistake to get a free drink from a stranger. As an apology of course but hey free is free.

That being said Title hasn't played an altruistic since Love By Chance in a BL.

Quick Recap: Be My Favorite Title played Knot, Pisaeng's asshole friend that was always up to no good.

In Hidden Agenda, Title played a guest role as Puen a guy that strung Zo along and broke his heart.

In Only Friends, Title played Atom. He lied and manipulated after getting f*cked by one night stander Boston.

And he's slated for roles in GMMTV'S Kidnap (OHM is back in BL without former partner Nanon but instead with Leng) and Perfect10Liners a JITTIRAIN NOVEL ADAPTATION by GMMTV.

So, looks like Kluen has his sights on Pheem. But his appearance in Episode 7 was super brief but he looked at Pheem with them seduction eyes and the smiles were wide.

Watch out Phum. Title doesn't do wholesome. Or perhaps he's a changed man.

it’s kinda funny that phum is the one who is visibly going through it, feeling 50 emotions simultaneously, in which 49 of those emotions are all brand new to him. on the surface, he’s the one who’s suffering anytime kluen gets close to peem. he’s the one with the laser eyes on them. or in pond’s words “bombastic side eye”. and it really seems like it’s phum who keeps approaching peem. chasing peem.

and while that’s true to certain extents, did anyone notice that it’s actually peem who gravitates towards phum this entire ep? he’s so focused on phum. his entire demeanor when it comes to phum has now changed so drastically. his tone, his attitude. they’re all so visibly different. he’s the one who keeps reaching for phum. he feels smug when the little kid says phum doesn’t want kluen near him. he fucking beams the moment phum comes to him. and he literally has a dude who kinda directly confesses his feelings for him yet his only concern is phum. he’s so attuned to phum’s emotions and notices every little thing about phum. peem’s mind at this point is just phum phum phum. and the show couldn’t have made that clearer.

it’s such a subtle role reversal between them but it was so fun and refreshing to watch and i think the show executes it pretty fucking well

Ongoing Series - Thai

My Stand-In (Thai Fri iQIYI) ep 1 of 12 eps - Adaptation of Chinese novel Professional Body Double by Shui Qiang Cheng. Stars Up (Lovely Writer) and Poom (Bake Me Please) directed by the same team as KP (not a recommendation IMHO - my biggest criticism of KP was the clashing directing styles). The MDL description made it sound complicated af but actually it's not so bad. In fact it's GOOD.

Stuntman Joe dies on the job and wakes up in the body of another Joe who has an entirely different life. But our Joe just gets his new body right back into his old existence, full of friends, enemies, and one troublesome ex. Poom is absolutely killing it in the lead. Mek is perfectly cast as the Actor du Jerk. I’m not sold on Up’s bratty brokenhearted rich kid... yet. The show though, I like it. I like a one (two) night stand starting things off and I like a lot of morally gray characters. Fun fun!

Deep Night (Thurs iQiyi) ep 8fin - The lesbian moms are the cutest thing in the world and my favorite thing this week. Bar none.

Summation:

It's about a host club and all the gay boys in it and some stuff that's not important because... PEOPLE OF EARTH WE HAVE A HONEST REP OF POLY IN A BL. Stand up and raise your hands in prayer to the Thai BL gods because sure as shit no one else was ever going to give this to us. For that alone this show gets 8/10 from me. Bonus Lesbian moms and great kisses.

Two Worlds (Thurs iQIYI) ep 7 of 10 - Say what you want about MaxNat all these years that they've been paired makes them great onscreen boyfriends. And you know me, I'm a total sucker for linguistic negotiation. Makes my heart go all mushy. That said, now that the leads are together, I’m really uninterested in all the drama around the ex-boyfriend/triangle. I'm glad this is only 10 eps.

1000 Years Old (Thurs iQIYI) ep 11 of 12 - They gave me the tiniest teaser for the kinky vampire BL that I have wanted my whole life. And now I'm just fucking annoyed with the rest of the show. 

We Are (Weds iQIYI) ep 3-4 of 16 - Q & Toey are the only interesting thing going on. I actually didn’t like this pair in My School President, but I’m enjoying them here. The others are all fine but these two have my heart. I have questions like: did Phum ever get his shopping bags back? And why is Phum driving a different colored car half way through the ep?

Only Boo! (Sun YouTube) ep 3 of 12 - The quality is good (it’s GMMTV) but the acting is... not. Still I loved that Moo just made the confession for both of them. Very in character. Does this plot remind anyone else of Footloose? Just me? Side couple was cute but now a bit too stalker for me. 

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Unknown (Taiwan Tues YouTube & Viki) ep 10 of 12 - It’s fantastic. Such a great show. We are so lucky. This is basically Taiwan’s The Eights Sense. I didn’t know they had it in them, but I’m really glad that they did.

Living With Him AKA Kare no Iru Seikatsu (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 3 of 10 - As JBL’s go this is way more my speed (than Alaska). It’s just so sweet and awkward but charming about it. The confession was so earnest. 

Blue Boys (Korea YouTube) 2 of ? No MDL link - It’s very sexy this one. Not sure what Korea thinks it's doing, but I’m not mad about it. 

Gray Shelter (Korea Thurs iQIYI) ep 5fin - summation: About a slacker nursing a crush on the (brief) older stepbrother who abandoned him. Upon finding him again he moves in with him, upends the mans lost suffering life. A dark gritty piece with confusing subs making it too chewy to really grok. It's trying to do too much for its length. The tension is real and the acting is good, it's just everything else stymied clean execution of the core concept. Frankly I spent this show expecting (and wanting them) to just fall into bed together - in a kind of desperate fight sex. It didn’t happen, and I’m disappointed by the non-ending we got. (Whether it’s going to have more in the series or not.) 7/10 I'm open to changing the rank if a part two fixes this one's flaws.

Boys Be Brave AKA Roommates (Korea Thurs Viki) ep 1-2 of 8 - Oh dear. Terrible hair. Jock nerd pairing. OCD baby cakes. Cohabitation trope. Killer side couple. Def unhinged. 

At 25:00 in Alaska AKA 25 Ji Akasaka de (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 2 of 10 - I’m still genuinely not sure about this one. It’s just a little too awkward for me in the wrong way. I expect all Japanese BL to have a certain aura of awkwardness so I don’t know what it is about this one turnign me off. I do enjoy that we’re getting both stories, the one between the actors, and a little bit of the roles that they’re playing on screen but... yeah

Love is like a Cat (Korea Mon Viki) eps 7-8 of 12 - The leads finally had a moment but there is negative chemistry. Why am I watching this? 

It's airing but...

Lady Boy Friends (Thai WeTV grey) 16 eps - reminds me a bit too much of Diary of Tootsies only high school. Not my thing. DNF unless it turns a corner and is truly amazing.

Hey, do you ever think about Phumpeem 20 years in the future, sitting under a big tree in their vast backyard, staring at their friends playing ball with all their kids because it’s Phumpeem’s daughter 10th birthday.

And Peem feels time catch up to him, all of sudden. Realizes that nearly 20 years passed, as if in a blink, but even so; their friends are as goofy as always, screaming and making faces and bickering.

Phum is right next to him, still, lounging on the tall grass. Grown up, gained in age lines, saturated by happiness around the mouth and at the corner of the eyes. And yet, he feels the same. Radiates the same warmth by his side. Peem watches him and sees 20 something year old Phum sitting with him in a park nearby the faculty, pestering him while he paints— under the same sun, his eyes look nearly golden. His laugh has the same cadence. Time passed but Phum didn’t go with it. He remained right next to Peem.

He doesn’t realize a sob escaped him until he starts crying harder. Until Phum shoots up from his relaxed position and cradles his nape so Peem can bury his twisted, tear-smeared face in his shoulder.

And he murmurs, ever so softly, “Hey, this is supposed to be a happy day.”

Peem’s fingers hook in his nice shirt tightly, and he nods once, twice, until Phum is chuckling gently as Peem stutters out, “And I’m so happy.”

Because time may have caught up to him, all of sudden, but everyone has been here since the start. Phum is here, still.

And Peem is so, so happy.

I know we all talk about Phum and his experiences with his childhoods neglect, but gods does Fang make me eat the drywall because there are so many implications about how it affected him too.

We don't know much about Phum and Fang's elder brother beyond a name and their mother asking Fang about how he has been doing, but I think that says a lot about the family and their connection. An elder brother who, going off the picture, doesn't seem much older than Fang and Phum who probably got out of dodge as soon as he could but in doing so left Fang and Phum alone in that house.

Fang who navigated international lines to talk to his scared crying younger brother and (probably) sent Phum plushies as a substitute for his company, but was only about a year or two older so he didn't realize it could never make up for the real thing.

Fang who knows how to make spaghetti and not much else because sometimes his parents forgot to leave money for groceries/takeout and he has to feed his younger brother because he is the only other parental figure despite being a year or two older and shouldn't have been unsupervised in the kitchen.

Fang who in high school punched his future-boyfriend in the face, because of course he did when he has been nothing but the peacekeeper in his household and a guy has been rude to him and he needs to let go of some of that bitterness and resentment and man doesn't Tan look punchable?

Fang who watched Phum get into fights too and emulate his behavior but he can never be mad at Phum because it isn't his fault no one bothered to check on the rich family's kids. Then Phum would emulate him further when he fell for the kid who kicked him in the nuts, but Fang can't even complain because Peem is the best thing to happen to his little brother.

Fang who went into architecture and keeps his grades up probably because his parents wanted him to go into business and having high grades is the only way to prove that he is doing what is best.

Fang who freaked out when his attentive boyfriend didn't respond to his calls and messages because his worst fears are confirmed and Tan is going to leave him just like his parents just like his elder brother- but Tan never left and continues to be his safe place.

Fang who was set up as the peacekeeper in his family, a bridge between Phum and their parents. Fang still living with their parents and constantly trying to get Phum to play nice because of course Fang is doing that because he wasn't the one abandoned in another country but also he got the bare amounts of attention that kept him strung along for more and to doesn't matter that his parents only seem to ask about his elder brother or his grades or talk about their own work because every once and while they pay attention to him.

Fang who will come to the realization the only love he values is Phum's, Tan's, and his news friends (which his parents didn't even realize he had) and how he will move out into a new place with Tan and cut off contact and it will be hard but it will be worth it because when he is married and adopted two kids and his kids ask about their grandparents on his side he'll give them a small smile and say they passed away decades ago even though he doesn't know if that is true but doesn't care to find out.

not to be all defensive over my blorbo, but phum genuinely did not plan on making peem wait that long at the mall. we literally see him trying to call peem, but he doesn't respond (because his phone ran out of battery), so phum assumes he left home already. and when he finds out peem waited for him for hours and feels bad about it, it is not a late realisation of what he has done - he is clearly horrified at the fact that it happened at all because again that was not what he was trying to do.

honestly, i can write a whole essay about how it becomes clear almost immediately that phum is enjoying peem's company and is aiming for some sort of a banter-ish friendship situation at the beginning, not entirely recognising the dynamics he himself established with the slave deal from peem's point of view. add to that phum's abandonment issues and this idea that he needs some sort of an excuse for people to stick around (his only friends are his brother and his childhood bestie, who almost kind of "have to" be there for him in a way), and you get him acting like a fish out of water trying to establish this new friendship the first couple of episodes.

in fact, the slave deal starts seeming like a "foot in the door" so quickly that when i was first watching the series live and we were just four episodes in, i thought that phum might have already had a crush on peem and it was all a weird elaborate plan to get close to him. in retrospective, that is, of course, not the case, but phum definitely imprints on peem very fast (which frankly makes complete sense for someone as lonely as he is) and is trying to imitate some sort of a friendship with all the joint cafe visits and paying for peem's drink and generally just trying to make peem hang out with him as much as possible (it is very clear that far from everything he does even at the very beginning is because he is trying to make peem "work off his debt").

and the reason why he is so bad at it and doesn't fully realise what the dynamic is actually like or what he is supposed to do with it is because he has canonically not been properly socialised and has literally never made a friend once in his life. his formative years were spent not knowing the language other kids around him spoke, crying and missing home, and he became completely closed off, relying solely on his pre-established relationships with his family and beer upon returning to thailand (and later meets tan through a bizarre set of circumstances connected to his brother and also being bullied at school + meets mick through beer and clearly never hangs out with him separately from his best friend).

and i know that the idea of a person literally never making friends until they were like 20 years of age might sound bizarre to some, but it is genuinely a thing that happens (especially when a person has cptsd and specifically finds it hard to socialise because of it).

phum's lonely, poorly socialised self sees some sort of a potential for a friendship in what he established with peem, and he slowly but surely tries to reframe their relationship into that. and to be fair to him, with further and further success, because the slave deal becomes more and more of an excuse until he actively refuses to mention it at all in later episodes, as they get closer, and peem is eventually more than happy to turn it into something completely unserious as well.

Part 2:

Third person pov

-Phum was sitting in the mall's cafè, holding his newly made puppy stuffie, One he himself made. The making of the stuffie was quite comforting to say the least, chosing the stuffie and then stuffing it with the cotton and giving it a heart, dressing it in twin clothes and even getting to name it. Phum loved every second of it. He used make them every weekend before, before he met peem. He used to give away those stuffie to kids in Orphanage, that reminded him. He haven't visited the kids for a while. He should definitely pay a visit soon.

-phum was feeling a lot better now. His thoughts diverted to the kids and his happy moments with them. He loved those kids, they made him familiar. He loved making them happy, loved playing with them, loved every second he spent there.

-A smiled formed on his face as he thought about the kids. "I should bring more plushies and ice cream.." He thought to himself. He took out his phone, unlocking it and ignoring all the other message and missed calls. He knew the other will drown him in questions, question he couldn't answer. He ignored that and messages the owner of orphanage, An old man in his 30s. The old man was quite fun to tease, phum loved getting on his nerves whenever he visited the orphanage. That's a story of next time. He quickly messaged him about his visit this weekend.

-He got his drink and stood up to leave but was shocked to find someone standing in front of him. Someone he was trying to run away from, someone he was avoiding.

Peem's pov

-I rushed to the mall, remembering that phum liked shopping whenever he got upset. He never really mentioned it but the numerous branded bags and clothes were a subtle sign that phum liked shopping, not for the stuff, but to clear his head.

-Peem ran around in every store, looking for phum. He finally found him, sitting in the cafe with a stuffie in his lap and on his phone. His legs moved on their own towards phum. A sense of relief washed over him on seeing him.

Third person's pov

- "What are you doing here?" Phum asked quietly. Both of them having sat back down. Phum nervously fidgeting with the stuffie's ears.

- "What happened?" Peem asked calmly. Looking at phum with his ever so soft gaze. Something phum had noticed, peem's eyes always softened while talking to him, as if phum was a kid.

Honestly I didn't think of how would they talk...so let me think about it before I write part 3...again please be patient, it's my first time actually writing something other than just my ideas... :,)

thinking about phum trying to be tough and independent and an adult when at heart he is just a lost boy who wants to be loved and be taken care of. thinking about phum making peem his 'slave' as revenge when all he wants is actually a companion a friend a partner someone who won't leave. thinking about peem who won't take any of phum's shit but also worries about him and talks to him so very softly and allows him to just be a kid sometimes. thinking about peem who doesn't want phum to break their deal and who kissed phum first but also won't make the first move to define their relationship

thinking about how easily phum would let peem push him down on the mattress if peem just wanted to. thinking about peem discovering how willing phum is to just let go and allow peem to take charge and lay on the bed trembling as peem makes him come undone while whispering sweet nothings in his ear

The level of pure trauma these two have endured is so heartbreaking. Phum is lonely and angry at his parents. His social skills lowkey suck and he only has like 4 friends. Really only 2 if you remember that two of them are his brothers (adding Toey into this). Phum can't find it in his heart to forgive his parents and that is a part of his loneliness. He doesn't know whether to forgive and move on or stay angry because they haven't shown him either of those things. It's not that he doesn't want to, it's that he doesn't know how. Even if he wanted to forgive them, how would he know where to start? He is now seeing what real love looks like and it's nothing like he is used to. He sees it romantically in Peem, platonically through their new friends, and familial through Peem's Aunt. The more he sees, the more that anger stays because loving this group has been simple to him so far.

Fang is lonely but trying to overcompensate by compromising on both ends. He tries to be a good son while being the only one that helped raise his little brother. That is an older sibling type of loneliness that I understand. Being an older sibling can be very difficult even with good parents. Never mind having bad ones. He spends most of his time anxiously watching over Phum and believing he isn't worthy of what Tan is offering. At some point, He keeps eluding to Tan being sick of him and eventually ending it. He can't see a future with him because he doesn't see himself as loveable.

Logically, as a kid, if you see that your parents don't want you or aren't loving, how could either grow to believe anyone else would? Love is supposed to begin with your family. That is where you are supposed to see what love looks and feels like but neither have had that.

Someone needs to rid the parents IMMEDIATELY.

This reminds me of when Tinn says "How can I be your friend? I like you!" when Gun finds him after he ran away from the MV shoot.

On one hand we have Phum who bribes children with chocolates (that he just happens to have in his pocket) to lure away his crush from his rival.

On the other we have Q who simply up and runs away when his friend faux-swipes his crush's sweat simply to make him jealous.

I love how Beer is both perceptive and observant of his friends, and knows just what to say to get them moving.

He wants the best for Phum and even tells him how he's happy that Peem came into his life, and Phum is a lot more lively these days. (MSP flashbacks again anyone? No? Just me?)

He might not be as playful or enthusiastic as Peem's friends, but he knows what his friends need and he'll try his hardest to make sure they have it. He's just such a good friend.

Phum telling him about the Deal™ also shows us just how much he trusts Beer.

Jokes aside, I like that Peem tries to figure out what's wrong, but he doesn't push too hard. And even tries to provide some comfort to Phum.

And in these moments with just them, Phum has bursts of courage to show his affection, and show Peem how much he means to him, instead of just telling him.

I don't think this is him being emotionally constipated (he is, no doubt about it, but strangely not as much when it comes to Peem), but more of him being unsure of where he stands with Peem (as I mentioned in last week's post).

Are they just friends because their friend groups merged? Acquaintances forced to be close due to circumstances? Just creditor and debtor? Is the deal all that's holding them together?

Well, Phum needs to find the answers. (Preferably and possibly within the next episode)

This is my favourite scene of this ep. Just crushes cuddling each other with sleep, the rest of the evil world (Kluen) forgotten for the moment.

🌱 if you guys are living together as a couple, everyday would felt like theraphy, even mundane task would felt like theraphy. Laundry, cooking, dishes, etc. You don't have to worry about him just laying around being lazy.

🌱 like to invite his friend around to just simply hangout and catch up with each other, his old friends from Bofurin, middle school, orphanage, you name it.

🌱 i feel like at the end of the day, Umemiya fits into the slow living life style. His own family (in the future) where he works and come home to a warm hug from his partner while his kids laying around on the tatami, on the weekend he would fully take care of his garden, letting his kids helps him harvest his crops, just very clichè heartwarming family, reclaiming what he had lost at the early stages of his life.
