We Start at our Roots,

There is a Cécred bond between a Black Mother and her daughter that is woven together through hair. The head that wears the crown is crowned through the kinship of Black Women before an opinion is given by the world. Often times, the hair journey starts at the kitchen table. The art depicts real life here.

Braided into our memories - Ms. Tina Knowles started the legacy of Cècred from her own salon, Headliners. So it is not lost on us that the woman who birthed Headliners has birthed the ultimate Headliner. “Hair has always been a very big part of our lives,” says Ms. Tina Knowles. “Just as fashion saved our family, hair is how we made a living.”

The return home to ESSENCE, 21 years after her first cover shoot, is a full-circle moment. Ahead of the 2/20 launch date of Cècred, Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter has returned back to the roots that have branched into the greatest living entertainer, a mother, and a full-on Boss. The rights of passage that passed through the lineage of her Grandmother Agnéz Deréon, her mother Tina Knowles, now sit in the follicles and hands of Beyoncé. The past, the present and the future moment now meet.

What a Cècred journey.
