Some are against the need to discuss hijab, because they consider it an individual issue, not a collective one. They say that at the beginning of the 1978 revolution, the issue of making hijab compulsory became a point of disagreement among scholars. According to some opponents, forcing hijab does not have a shari’a aspect, and it is not clearly mentioned in the Qur’an. While Islamic headcoverings can come in many forms, hijab often specifically refers to a cloth wrapped around the head and neck, covering the hair but leaving the face visible. The term ḥijāb was originally used to denote a partition, a curtain, or was used generally for the Islamic rules of modesty and dress for females. This is the usage in the verses of the Qur’an, in which the term hijab re- fers to a curtain separating visitors to Muhammad’s main house from his wives’ residential lodgings.
