I believe that if you were raised in an abusive home. You will automatically repeat that pattern , hurting people or pushing everyone away. Some stay in that rut, have kids. Rinse and repeat.

Others realize what they are doing.

That was me.

I moved to the other end of the spectrum then to find people can be vultures. When you do this ..

You’ll attract narcissists and evil into your life because you’re wearing your heart on your sleeve.

This is where many collapse.

Unfortunately many don’t get back up. At this point they numb themselves with drugs , alcohol, sugar and/or sex.

But some of us get up.

And it is the most painful feeling I have ever experienced. It’s not like you just stand up and brush off the dirt and move on.

The pain feels like having your limbs removed surgically without anathesia.

And kind of like a victim being chased in a zombie movie you will try to walk forward falling every 10’

But you keep trying. Then one day it’s 15’, then 20’, … then a mile.

Your old self dies. Your ego dies.

You look back and see that you left a 30 - 40 year path of destruction, and your financial success and commercial success are gone.

And people will continue to talk shit about that person you used to be.

And that part of you that used to care about that , is gone.

You really have walked through the fire to rise like a phoenix from the ashes.

You emerge from a catastrophe stronger, smarter, and more powerful.

You then see things in 4-D

You see the red flags with people and situations.

You make better choices.

Personally I saw that house I was building for the past 40 years collapsed in a pile of dust. I now saw it like a house of cards. It has no stabilization. No structure. No foundation.

But on the outside it looked incredible.

So everyone who drove by would think I was strong. I was unstoppable.

Fuck. I was Bill Bennett. Dj. Personal trainer. Stud.

What people didn’t know…

It was a subconscious calculated illusion I created and built to protect that 13 year old kid.

When I was a 13. I showed horses.

Many times if I didn’t win. I had to ride home in the horse trailer with the animals. I was told I was not good enough to ride home in the truck yet.

The pain that 13 year old endured was too much for him to handle.

That with being gay while magazine covers showed Rock Hudson died of AIDS. Covers that showed gay men dying everywhere and no one knew why , magazines that told gay kids being gay is a death sentence.

It was too much.

It’s taken me 55 years to look back and understand this.

It’s like watching a life review and watching my past , seeing that house I built was no more than a giant stage set at universal. If you go behind it you would see plywood and 2 x 4s holding these walls up.

And on the inside was that 13 year old boy that my father choked against wall telling me how disappointing I was to him.

5 years ago I learned what trauma bonds are. What Stockholm syndrome meant. And that I was very codependent.

Yoga and meditation got me here.

He’s always showing off his skills and stupidity in order to make you laugh, because your smile is the best thing he’s ever seen and giggles are the beautiful sound he treasures.

Zoro loves you like you’re his one and only. No one has priority over you, ( except maybe Luffy ), and you will always be his, if you’ll let him.

Zoro is not a man of many words when it comes to his own emotions and feelings, so he shows it through his actions.

He always has an eye on you, so wherever you are is where he ‘sleeps’ so he can keep you close, his swords at his side to protect you from danger, ( but he knows you can handle yourself. )

Zoro is the perfect person to lend a comforting shoulder and ear. He will listen to every single one of your problems intently and if he can, will offer the best advice you’ll hear, even if it’s a bit harshly. However, whatever got you so down, Zoro will bring you back up.

Zoro is always reminding you that you are strong, no matter how tough things get.

Kid loves you like a game, it’s unexpected, unpredictable of what will happen and it’s exciting and thrilling. For you both, one wrong move, and the other is gone for good, but perhaps, second chances/rematches are available.

He can be brash and a bit much, but Kid has high respect for anyone who actually makes it onto his crew and can actually tolerate him, you included.

He’s loud and wild but that only makes it part of the fun. With such a short fuse, as long as you play your cards right and pick your moments to bite back, it’s kind of fun knowing how dangerous it can be with a guy like Kid, and he also loves it equally, because your feistiness is attractive.

Being a bad bitch that doesn’t play by the rules is so incredibly attractive and Kid knows how to reward and punish so tread carefully. ;) however, he has his down moments and as annoying he can be, he does appreciate the effort you give if you try to comfort him. He’ll be harsh about it but eventually, he just wants you to be with him in the end.

Kid reminds you to rebel, take risks and enjoy the thrill of getting in dangerous situation every once in a while, breaking a few rules doesn’t hurt anybody. Most of the time.

As much as he loves to show you off, he despises the stares of awe and admiration you receive whenever you go out, so his possessiveness takes over and he has an arm around your waist at all times, successfully showing you’re taken and to back off if they don’t wish to be cut into oblivion.

He trains you to handle yourself, obviously, you should know at least some basic skills. He’s not too hard on you but does push you to keep going until you truly wish to stop. It’s only because he’s worried that one day, he won’t be there and won’t be able to protect you.

Shanks loves you like you’re his future. It’s an unknown journey, but he’s there for the ride and whatever may happen, he’s there staying and won’t be going anywhere, unless it’s with you.

The red head is a goofball, he drinks, parties and messes around but he is an incredible captain and genuine to a fault. So when he expresses kindness, it is purely from his heart and not out of manners.

Katakuri loves you like you’re glass, he’s careful, protective, cautious and treats you like you’re fragile, because he’s afraid of hurting you.

He’s larger than most, he’s aware of that, so he always takes the precautions to be aware of his surroundings, especially when you are around. He wants you safe and he will be devastated if he is the cause of your pain.

His large stature is a blessing to you though, because cuddling is so comfortable and comforting, it’s amazing. (Technically everything about him is both a headcanon and canon buuuuuuuut--)

Headcanon A:  realistic

Hair is an extremely important thing in Greshan and Angran societies. Growing it out to different lengths or putting it in different hairstyles can convey information. But in Angran tribes specifically, touching or doing someone else’s hair is an extremely intimate act, reserved only for immediate family and your betrothed.

His younger siblings used to do his hair, but there was a long span of time where *no one* did it. Once he finally trusted Elian and Nania enough, they’d have some meet-ups where they didn’t do any sparring or anything, just relaxed and did each other’s hair. 

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

He acts like Elian had all these stupid ideas when he’s much more rational but there was at least one incident where he grabbed a goose or phoenix, climbed into a tree with it, and tried to fly by jumping out of the tree as the bird flapped wildly. 

He denies it ever happened, but Elian and Nania both saw. They Know. 

They know he’s a melodramatic goof. 

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

When Talon met Elian, his kindness threw him for a loop, and got him to re-evaluated the path his life was taking. Ultimately it made him much happier and well-balanced. But if Talon had never met Elian, he’d have basically no positive influences in his life, and become someone really awful. Had he met Elian in a battle instead of when they did in comic, he might have just killed him, never knowing what good friends they could have been, in another world, another life... 

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.

He’s descended from Rue. In the AU where he somehow survives thousands of years, when Rue eventually gets better she tries to make up for what she did to him in the past because he is a fun person to fight! Those are so so rare!

Rita! 

Headcanon A:  realistic

(spoilers for season three but) I love her and Jet’s friendship. I like to imagine that she just hyperfocuses on some stream or coding a program/hacking Dark Matters on her coms, but the group’s heading off somewhere, so Jet just. Picks her up in his arms and carries her after them while she’s still typing and rambling because she’s Tiny and he’s Huge, and while she’s rambling about it sometimes he’ll respond with “Yes.” “No.” “I am not familiar.” But he tries to keep up with her because in Tool’s of Rust he mentioned how following her train of thought is great exercise. 

Idk I really just like Jet carrying Rita around places while she talks at a mile a minute while doing five other things, this chaotic whirlwind of manic energy in the arms of the most stoic guy you ever met. Great dynamic A+ 

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

She tried to join Dark Matters once thinking that ‘it’d be like in the movies!’, brought absolute chaos to the establishment for like a week, and then got bored and left, but still keeps tabs on all the ‘friends’ she made there by hacking into the highly secure Dark Matters database, and sends them memes. No one knows WHAT to make of her. 

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

It wouldn’t surprise me if she had an exceptionally lonely childhood growing up and Juno was her first ‘real’ friend. She seems to think and speak entirely in pop culture references, not to mention she’s leagues better at programming and codes than anyone else in Hyperion City, even the CIA-equivalent organization Dark Matters. Perhaps her genius and general though process scared other kids away, and when she met angry, bitter, defensive Juno, she thought ‘oh, he’s like me!’ and latched onto him because they both needed a friend, even if they had their respective ways of hiding it. 

Season 3 spoilers but this might also be why she’s so desperate to help her friends and fix their problems for them, she’s so weird but they won’t leave if she’s a useful kind of weird.

She’s very smart... she’s cagey about both her age and her last name... She’s bi... She is a woman from the 1800s who was very smart and inquisitive but barred from participating in the science community and them got bitten by a vampire only instead of ever becoming a famous scientist she kept getting distracted by hot people and penny dreadfuls and traveling to try ‘exotic’ food but kept picking up so much knowledge she’s completely gotten her knowledge of the past all muddled up iN THIS ESSAY I WILL--

Headcanon A:  realistic

I don’t know how realistic it is but I still REALLY love the ‘Gaster is Papyrus’ theory and am sorely disappointed that to this day, I’ve only found TWO stories that explore it :( 

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

Papyrus' powers are strong enough to destroy the Barrier, the only reason he doesn’t know is that he’s simply never tried. There are a lot of things he doesn’t know he can do simply because no one else can do what he does and so he’s never known to try. 

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

Going with the ‘Papyrus is Gaster’ theory, the reason Papyrus has no friends is that whatever power caused Gaster to be forgotten is still in effect, albeit it’s worn off a bit. The only way people can legit remember him and his depth and capability is through Determination, so Undyne, Flowey, and Frisk/Chara. But for those who don’t... he’s a weird tall kid(?), he’s Sans’ brother, he’s that Royal Guard Wannabe. They can only remember who he is in connection with other, more memorable people and concepts, otherwise he’s a stranger, barely an acquaintance. 

Even Sans doesn’t remember him. This is his brother, and he knows he really admires his brother and thinks he’s cool for... some reason... but he can’t quite recall what those reasons are. He doesn’t remember his brother’s favorite food, eh, it must be spaghetti, right? He’s making it all the time. He thinks his brother likes japes and jokes so he’ll make the laziest puns. His brother really wants to capture a human, but he’s not quite sure why, so he’ll ask the human to play nice so Pap can meet them and do... whatever. He’s happy, right? He looks happy, but Sans feels like he’s not quite doing... enough... What’s missing?

Papyrus doesn’t become a police officer or a chef or any of the ‘popular’ headcanons on the surface. (Defund the police.) He becomes a superhero.  He rehabilitates all his former enemies. He’s Batman now, but less broody and just as dramatic. Flowey is roped into being his side-kick. Flowey complains a lot but secretly loves being a superhero. How does it go?” “Whoever is an enemy to Allah, and His angels, and His messengers, and Gabriel and Michael then indeed, Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers.” He declares resting his hands on his knees as his eyes glow blue.

Sam walked out of Nick’s room sighing running a hand down his forehead. his phone goes off seeing it’s Cas he picks up “Hey, Cas.” He greets “Hello, Sam.” A voice answers Sam straighten up at the unfamiliar voice “Who is this?” he demands the voice laughs “Oh. I'm the boy who's got your angel. And if you want to see him again, you know, alive, we should probably chat.”

Sam begins to pack some weapons to rescue Castiel, along with Bobby, Jack, Maggie, and Mary. “It's a trap.” Mary sighed closing up her bag “Yep.” Sam nodded continuing packing

“This guy's a-” bobby asked “Demon.”Sam cut him off as he closed up his bag “He just told you he was a demon?” Jack questioned

Sam nodded “Yeah. He seemed pretty proud of it, too.” Bobby grumbled, “Yeah, they ain't a real humble bunch.” Maggie looked at the group of people “So, what do we do?” Sam loads his gun speaking “We get Cas back. All right, grab holy water, Devil's Trap bullets, angel blades, because whatever we're walking into-”

“It's gonna suck.” Bobby groaned “Exactly. Maggie, you're with Bobby. Mom, you're with me.” Sam continued Jack stood up looking at Sam “I'm coming, too. I know I'm not as strong as I used to be, but... I can help...I have to.” bobby placed a hand on jack’s shoulder “Listen, kid..” “Okay. Grab your gear.” Sam interrupts him Jack smiles at him and hurriedly leaves to prepare. “I'm just trying to be a good host like Mother would have wanted,” Kipling answered

Castiel sighed “No, Why are you using me as bait?” He said shaking the chains around him Kipling looked over at him “I mean, it's kind of what you're for, isn't it? And I need something... from Sam Winchester.”Castiel laughed “You really think that he's gonna make a deal with you?”

“Oh, he's dealt with worse. You see, recently, I had a revelation. You know, somebody asked me what it was that I wanted, and I realized that after 600 years as a demon walking the planet, destroying, drinking, defiling -- you know, the Three D's -- I didn't know. So, I sat back, and I gave it a good think, and I realized exactly what I wanted.” Kipling continued now standing above Cas

“And what is it?”

“Everything.”

“You don't know that....Y/n's gone, and we have no idea where she is or-or if she's even still alive. You know, Michael could have... burned her out or... worse, and...” He sighed

Mary frowned ”I know. I know she's out there, scared and alone. I know. I know she might never come back. Never think I don't know that. But -- I can't -- I have to think about the good, Sam, because, if I don't, I will drown in the bad. For Dean's sake for his kid, I can't do that. We can't do that.” She answers for the sake of Dean Sam and the rest had left after killing Kipling and most of the demons before heading back. Sam sits at the table, pressing a cold beer to his forehead as he talks on the phone “Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I -- No, I don't care. I -- just keep looking. Yeah. Thanks.” he hangs up sighing another dead end.

“Who was that?” Cas said entering sitting next to Sam “Uh, Ketch. He's in London searching for the Newton-Dee Hyperbolic Pulse Generator.” Sam answers

“The what?” Cas tilts his head in confusion

“It's the -- It's the magic egg that kicked Lucifer out of the President. I thought we could use it on Michael, but -- Ketch can't find it. So, that's another dead end, which is just awesome.” Sam explained sighing

Cas glanced over to his friend “Sam, are you all right?

“Yeah, I've been better. I've been worse. You?” Castiel looked down ashamed “I'm-I'm just sorry. I should never have gone to those demons.” Sam placed a hand on his shoulder “Cass, I -- No, I-I-I don't blame you. I... Honestly, I-I wish I'd have thought of it first. If it meant finding Y/n, I-I'd work with -- I'd do anything. Dean hasn’t been himself since.”

After Cas left Sam headed to his room he turns the light on and leaves his phone on the table. The phone starts vibrating Sam grabs it answering “Hello?”

“Sam?” The voice of Sister Jo calls through 

“Jo?” Sam handed heard from her since Lucifer 

“Yeah. We have a problem.” Jo answered

general notes on this fic: it’s so much fun and i love it. i love this thing i wrote. i wrote it in like three days on what is, by my standards, a literally nonexistent outline, and it’s good as hell. moving on.

the excerpt in question:

The sun keeps rising, and the birds yammer their way to People Park, and Phoenix finishes his omelette. Miles, not a breakfast man, drinks more tea and criticizes Phoenix’s lack of newspaper subscriptions. Phoenix tells him to open an app some time, you luddite. They debate the news, then the entertainment section, then the crossword. They’re halfway through the second crossword, sourced from Miles’ NYTimes app that he forgot he paid for, before Phoenix looks up at Miles’ face—strong nose, sharp jaw, the newly-familiar shape of his mouth, the most damnably smug expression Phoenix has ever had the displeasure to love— and realizes he could the do this for the rest of his life. Like the whole and entire span of his days. It wouldn’t even be hard.

I debated ‘pleasure to love’ vs ‘displeasure to love’ here, and ultimately came down on the side of ‘displeasure,’ even though i’d used ‘pleasure’ for Trucy earlier in the fic, because I think Phoenix’s version of the honeymoon phase is “delighted jokes at his soon-to-be-fiancé’s expense, yes even in his internal monologue” and also the honeymoon phase lasts until they die.

Also, to comment on the commentary, I didn’t even register “like the whole and entire span of his days” as especially romantic! I was just like, yes this is the next thing to write! Phoenix is suddenly smacked across the face by the revelatory codfish of lifetime commitment! Maybe in ten years he’ll realize it’s usually more of an Event for people. But for Phoenix? It was Tuesday. Monday. It was Monday.

“Hey, do you have anything planned today?”

“Hm?” Miles is trying to make ‘Monroe’ into a nine letter word containing an F and a D. “No, not particularly. Some more furniture shopping, perhaps.”

Miles Edgeworth would be better at crosswords if the crosswords would ever once attempt to see things from his point of view. Also everyone’s right, this WAS a joke I wrote in honor of that great friend and companion, Sara Norway. “No, Phoenix, I— rice, maybe—“

Miles exhales heavily, keeping his eyes on his hands and his dripping device. “It was a rather weak joke.”

I actually still have some qualms about how I paced bits of dialogue in this whole last stretch. Places where, in hindsight, I think Miles’ protests should have been tweaked or the emotion shifted. Like I think I had originally intended more ongoing shock on Miles’ part here, rather than this response, which is him actually debating Phoenix on the merits. But in none of these instances do I actually feel to go back and fix anything, I strongly feel that the whole thing is perfect as is lmao, and anyways it then comes across as Miles ALSO having thought about this a nonzero amount of times in the past forty-five minutes, and I am into that.

“What’s so ridiculous about it? We may not have been together for longer than, oh, ten hours,” and saying that out loud does send a little shock of fear through Phoenix, but that’s not going to stop him now, “but we’ve been in love for a decade! We’ve been friends for twenty-five years!”

“Hardly continuously,” Miles mutters.

“Well, close enough. Look, Miles, you know me better than anyone alive in the world today. That is literally true. You’re my best friend, I trust you completely, god knows why, and I love you so much I’m having trouble breathing right now. Why not?”

If we don’t get in a dig about how our soon-to-be-fiancé used to flirt with suicide/flee to Europe every six months on the money, is it really a serious emotional conversation with Phoenix Wright at all?

The phone clacks against the countertop. Miles, with the mid-morning sun shining through his hair, stares at Phoenix in deepening wonder. Possibly also some fear. “You really mean this,” he says.

He’s beyond understanding how he got to this point. It was something to do with how Miles chewed on his thumbnail as he tried to remember the names of 50s Hollywood starlets, or maybe how Miles had touched him last night, like Phoenix was worth more than his student loan debt and his daughter’s good grades. It’s got a lot to do with Miles chartering a private jet when they were 27, and how Phoenix’s whole body used to slip into a richer mode of sensation, a deeper understanding of joy, when they faced each other in court. It feels like that again, like when he was young and stupid and full of hope.

He can’t be young anymore, but it’s been a while since he lost his badge. He could give the other two a try.

More seriously, my interest in post-AJ phoenix is always, always, always at least partially to do with how he reconciles his past self with who he’s currently become. A literal unavoidable feature of the human experience for everyone, but obviously Phoenix went through it in his late 20′s a bit harder than most. Anyways, this part of their relationship is important to me. They’ve known each other at every stage of their lives, through every disparate person they’ve been, and they both can see the throughline. Phoenix isn’t just a poorly-dressed single father to Miles, or just a novice attorney, or just a snot-nosed kid. He’s Phoenix. And vice versa.

“What about your daughter?” Miles asks. He’s gripping his on elbow, an old habit.

Miles knows how to shut him down, how to get him to fuck off, but he’s still standing here, in Phoenix’s apartment, with tea drying on his borrowed sweatpants. He’s still holding Phoenix’s hand.

‘Siezes the temptation of Miles’ hand in his own’ is one of the best lines I’ve ever written

“If it doesn’t work out,” Phoenix says, low, smiling, with Miles’ chilly fingers between his, “so what? We’ll get divorced, burn each other’s clothes, figure out how to be friends again, the whole ugly thing. But if it does work out, and I do get to spend the rest of my life married to you, then I want to start the rest of my life now. Why would I wait even a second?”

The conversation soon turned from my disdain for the series flaws (really I’m so tired guys) to fixing certain flaws in the narrative, and during our swapping she asked me how if yang had aura did adam cut through yang’s aura.

You know, I’d bet that all those ‘flaws’ are just bullshit you told her.

Also: If you hate the series, why the fuck are you supporting it? or are you pirating it in which case, you don’t get to complain.

I told her want miles told us and I can tell you the look on her face was priceless, she then asked why his blade was pure red and frankly after 5 seasons we don’t know shit about adam but one can assume it could be made from metal that cut around aura.

Did you tell her about that time Monty literally fucked up one of his own twists by putting oin Penny in a fight where she wasn’t needed?

because knowing Monty kind of helps understand most of the decisions of early RWBY.

Literally the very first statement you said broke the lore. Grimm don’t leave ANYTHING behind. That is CANON. And if they do leave the white armor behind when they die, that REALLY defangs a lot of their horror since, if they can leave things behind they7 can be studied, weaknesses can be found and it takes away from the unusual horror they exude as they solely attack humans and leave nothing behind, defying two things that the animals they emulate do.

So adam’s sword is an expensive and rare type of metal obtained by one grimm. The elephant grimm, see as we see them in the series they seems to stand far off from cities and we never seen any fight so like real elephants there’s something spectacular about their bone plating, they eat precious gems and metal unlike other grimm and hunters during the graduation into full time hunters have the option to go kill these grimm for some incredibly powerful metals stored in the bone plating on the grimm.

A. It is expressly SAID and SHOWN they will fight if they think they can win.

B. Grimm have never shown any other biological functions like eating or sleeping. That helps make them scary because it drives a FURTHER disconnect between what we as pattern seeking beings we are would assume of them.

C. These Grimm are shown to be bigger than skyscrapers and have hides that shrug off bullets. They are some of the strongest Grimm in the series and now you make them look like slightly tougher Ursas.

D. Their PLATING is not special, THEY are. 

And E. HOW is it that consuming gem stones and rare metals makes them grow this strong metal? How? Rare metals are NOT strong weapons, they are in fact pretty damn fragile when it comes down to it. Gold is actually pretty soft you know?

If it’s magic...HOW does the magic work? And why is magic not universally accepted in RWBY then?

Oh and F. You ripped this off from Sableye from Pokémon. For a guy who screeches about RWBY barely holding a resemblance to anything, your ideas seem heavily reliant on others.

Problem is these grimm have a high kill count, cause they’re elephant like and they’re smart so they stick in groups deep in forest with traps and the aid of less intelligent grimm that they can command.

A. HOW can a fucking elephant make traps that aren’t super obvious?

B. WHY would other Grimm hang around these creatures? They are not pack creatures nor would other Grimm be smart enough to listen to them.

C. If these Grimm are so intelligent as to make traps and command less Grimm why have they NOT killed off humanity long before this setting? 

C2. If not THAT, why haven’t these intelligent Grimm that can apparently command other Grimm not command their underlings to eat rare gem stones and rare metals in order to have this super metal too?

Occasionally you’ll find a really good Titanium like metal made from grimm that seems to bypass aura like they do (recently that’s changed but we actually seen grimm cut and bite despite aura existing) and that’s why adam’s blade ignored yang’s aura instead of “Well it’s awesome heheh.” This way besides just killing grimm it makes the world feel a little more alive, people can kill certain grimm for certain metals (students at signal start out with more down to earth metals and when they graduate they can go hunt a grimm as graduation form their more fantasy like materials to make new or improve their weapon.)

You know, that Titanium comment really goes to show your double standard about RWBY.

Titanium ,as you are thinking of, RARELY occurs in nature and instead is found mostly in sand as numerous different types of minerals. To get pure Titanium, you’d need to REFINE it. And Titanium, in and of itself, isn’t actually very durable. As a natural metal yes it is for how light weight it is as well as how resistant it is to extreme tempetures. But it’s still only equal to common low grade steel and like many metals, it’s true strength lies in being mixed into alloys where it becomes a component of the metal.

AKA Titanium as we know it, made from it’s pure state along with being mixed with certain metals, CANNOT BE FOUND IN NATURE. So such a metal WOULDN’T EXIST in a Grimm due to eating NATURALLY MADE metals.

You could explain it away with “magic!” but A. that defeats the entire purpose of you making all these details just to end it with “magic!” and B. We both know you’d be attempting murder on Miles and Kerry if they tried anything remotely similar.

And there lies the hypocrisy: your explanation has the EXACT SAME ISSUES you have with Adam’s original explanation (in which it makes no sense) except it takes far bigger leaps in logic, breaks several rules of canon to the point of needing NUMEROUS retcons to fix it and being over complicated as FUCK. And yet you have the audacity to claim you fixed anything.

Same thing with the Shade Academy thing: It’s same shit you bitch about with the Fanaus except you have set ZERO foundation for the culture of the area to support such an idea unlike the Fanaus.

When her gaze lands on the desk, on the space where her laptop is now conspicuously absent, the sight is so unexpected that she stares in disbelief, the truth of the situation not really hitting her fully until she physically walks over and picks up the disconnected power cables. That’s when she knows, for certain, that of course it was too much to hope for.

Whoever her landlord saw, it wasn’t Mulder.

Something in her deflates, and all at once she feels shaky and nauseated again. She barely makes it to the bathroom in time, but it doesn’t even matter; nothing comes up. Unsteadily, she sits on the edge of the bathtub and rests her head in her hands. Is this how her body is going to respond to every strong emotional moment now?  

She tells herself it’s her investigator’s instinct that leads her to grab a jacket and keys and head out through the rain to Alexandria. She rationalizes that whoever stole her computer might also want to take Mulder’s and that going to his apartment might either help her catch them or prevent it from happening. Her decision has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that misses him so badly the thought of spending tonight alone in her own bed is suddenly unbearable.

(It’s not as though she will be any less alone at his place. The very notion of feeling closer to him merely by surrounding herself with his belongings is completely irrational.)

Calm determination sustains her for the drive over, her resolve only slipping momentarily once she’s standing in front of his apartment door, force of habit and muscle memory causing her to tap out their knock against the wood. The sound makes her breath hitch, and she can’t help the irrational surge of hope that somehow this has all just been a terrible dream.

But of course there is no answer, and she swallows back the bitter disappointment as she pulls out his key and unlocks the door herself.

“I’m just trying to find him.” “Then what are you doing here?” “Trying to figure these out. I found them in his desk there. Car rental receipts on Agent Mulder’s Visa.”

Damn it. Those receipts have nothing to do with Mulder or where he is right now, but she absolutely cannot explain to Agent Doggett how she knows that.

“Four consecutive weekends in May. Same mileage each trip -- 370 miles, 375 miles. Where was he going?”

Mulder wasn’t going anywhere. The first weekend in May, they were on a stakeout in front of that godawful night club. The next one, he was chasing crop circles in England. The one after that, they were both in L.A. for the movie premiere. And as for last weekend… she has to force herself not to unwittingly glance toward his bedroom.

Byers was the one taking the car trips. Something to do with the woman he ran into in Las Vegas last year, the woman he and Langly and Frohike helped go into hiding. Scully’s not entirely sure of the details, didn’t need to know beyond the fact that it was important enough for Mulder to help him cover his tracks. If Doggett does his homework well enough, he will figure out the discrepancy eventually; Scully doesn’t need to help him get there any sooner.

She probably should invent some explanation, give him an answer so he’ll stop looking, but she can’t seem to come up with anything plausible on the spot. Instead, she does her best to look as genuinely clueless as possible. “I don’t know.”

“Like I said, maybe you really didn’t know your partner.”

It is only by the grace of God that he’s interrupted by his phone just then. Indignation and sudden rage at his smug assertion nearly make her contradict him with admissions she will one hundred percent regret.

“John Doggett. Agent Mulder at the FBI?”

Her stomach flips, and the emotional whiplash is almost enough to short-circuit her brain. She pins her gaze to his face, searching for anything that could possibly explain the words that just came out of his mouth.

There’s no way.

If Mulder had been returned, he would have come home. Or gone to her place. He would not have gone to the office, especially not without so much as calling her.

“I see.” Doggett shakes his head ever so slightly, still holding her gaze, and she can barely keep from rolling her eyes. She is so goddamned sick of the games, of feeling like she’s ten steps behind on every aspect of this investigation. “Thank you. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

He finally looks away from her and down at his phone as he hangs it up. “Seems Agent Mulder may have visited headquarters last night. His pass-card was used to access the task force base of operations.”

This time she does roll her eyes. “And I don’t suppose anyone actually witnessed him.”

“They’re checking security camera footage as we speak. May I ask where you were last night between one and two AM?”

She stares at him. “Are you serious?”

“It's a simple question, Agent Scully.”

“No, it's an insulting question, Agent Doggett. I am sick and tired of being treated like a suspect, here.”

His demeanor is infuriatingly calm; it is especially galling considering she's barely holding herself together. “Maybe you should consider trying not to act like one, then. Maybe instead of fighting me at every turn, you can start cooperating. See, because otherwise, it starts to look like maybe you don't want Mulder found.”

A bitter laugh bubbles up out of her. “If you think I don't want to find Mulder--”

“Or maybe you know exactly where he is and what he's up to, only you don't want me to find him.”

She crosses her arms, glaring at him. “I was at home. Asleep.” It’s not exactly a lie; Mulder’s apartment feels more like home than her own place does, right now. Besides, if Doggett contradicts her claim, it will prove he had her under surveillance.

He studies her a moment, almost as if he’s deciding whether or not to challenge her. “See? That wasn’t so hard, was it?” he says at last. “Okay. We’d better get back to the office and see what’s on those tapes. That is, if you’re finished here.”

They’re not going to find anything on the security cameras. Whatever’s going on with the apparent use of Mulder’s pass-card, she knows without a doubt that he wasn’t at the FBI last night. It’s just another dead end that will get them no closer to actually finding him. While Doggett and his team run around chasing their tails, Mulder is slipping farther and farther away.

It occurs to her, then, that she doesn’t so much as have her own work ID with her; she didn’t exactly think things through when she ran over here last night. She also hasn’t eaten anything, either, and if she has to put up with much more of Doggett’s condescension without having any breakfast, she just might lose her cool entirely.

He’s still waiting for an answer, she realizes, and she quickly nods. “I, um, I need to run an errand on my way back to the Hoover Building. I’ll meet you there.”

“They are looking to find the whereabouts of good, hard proof. That in this case exists in a person. In a boy named Gibson Praise.”

Skinner’s eyes widen in understanding. Clearly he remembers Gibson, which is good, because Scully’s mind is running a mile a minute right now, and she doesn’t want to stop and rehash everything.

“The chess phenom?” Frohike pipes up. “I thought you said he was some kind of mind reader.”

Right. She forgot that she consulted with the Gunmen on Gibson’s case, too. That will make this even easier.

“We determined that a genetic anomaly was the most likely cause of his ability. Specifically, there are segments of his DNA that appear to be extraterrestrial in origin.”

“No freaking way,” Frohike breathes, and Byers lets out a low whistle.

“But the point,” she continues quickly, “is that the last place we saw him was Arizona. If someone were looking for him, and all they had to go on was our report -- the report in Gibson’s file -- that’s where they would go.”

“You’re saying that’s the file that was stolen from the FBI?” Skinner says.

“I am saying that it would go a long way toward explaining a lot of what’s been going on around here the past couple of days. They’re trying to get us looking in the wrong direction, to make it seem like Mulder’s orchestrating everything.”

“Because if we think he’s here, running around stealing computers and case files, then there would be no reason to keep looking for him elsewhere.”

“Exactly.”

It’s even bigger than that, though. If the point is to discredit Mulder and cast doubt on his motivations, then of course the medical records are also fake. Of course Skinner was right when he said Mulder would have told them about something that big. The headstone Mulder supposedly purchased, which threw her so completely into turmoil this afternoon, seems so over the top now as to be downright laughable.

She hates herself more than a little bit for doubting him, for even considering that he might have been capable of such deceit.

“Well, then I’ll get us booked on the first flight to Phoenix tomorrow morning,” Skinner says, leaning forward to gather the maps and satellite data. “With any luck, we’ll get to them before they move on again.”

She paces from room to room for a while after Skinner and the Gunmen have left; they’ve already lost so much time, and now that they finally have a potential lead, she can hardly stand the fact that they have to wait until morning to follow up on it. It's a helpless sort of feeling, and she hates it. So she paces. Some ridiculous part of her is tempted to go back over to Mulder's apartment again, as if she might be better able to find calm there, but that's completely impractical. Skinner will be back here in just over six hours to pick her up on the way to the airport.

Even though exhaustion does eventually send her to lie down on her bed, she never does manage to fall asleep.

Okilly Dokilly is the world's only Nedal band. Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, a majority of the band's lyrics are direct Ned quotes. Established in 2015, the band found success before ever playing their first show, becoming a viral phenomenon after releasing just a few press photos and a 4-song demo. Within 2 weeks, the band was featured by numerous publications including Billboard, Time, The Independent, BBC, Esquire, Vice and many more. In late 2016 the band released their debut album, 'Howdilly Doodilly', a 13-track catalog filled with Flanderisms, rushing guitars and more than enough left-handed puns. Okilly Dokilly's live shows are high energy affairs that weave together comedy and brutality. Guttural screams and pounding drums provide a soundtrack for the pummeling of an inflatable donut as green sweaters and round glasses blur across the stage… We talk to Head Ned about the band dynamic, connecting with fans and spirituality…

TSH: Would you say a primary quality you had in mind for the band’s debut record was for it to be brutal?

Head Ned: Yeah, I just wanted it to be very heavy and brutal; it was also important to have moments that are the exact opposite of those too. We wanted some quiet and serene moments and switch straight from the very heavy side to the very light side. It was fun to put them right next to each other.

TSH: How much of your material is direct Ned quotes?

Head Ned: The record is 75% Ned quotes, which is key! Filling the record with Ned quotes was a prerogative for us. About 15% consists of other characters and conversations that have been had and the other 10% are original lyrics. The original material on the record is ‘Donut Hell’ and ‘All That Is Left’, which are basically odes to the leftorium.

TSH: What’s the band dynamic like when new music is coming together?

Head Ned: It's an interesting process and very natural I'd say. Generally, it starts with something one of the guys has seen in a Simpsons episode or a clip, they'll send it over to me and I'll research. I'll find the full episode and look into it. One of the first things that we purchased as a band was all the existing copies of the show. We constantly dig out discs, look for quotes and kind of put them together with some guitar riffs. I’ll normally have a whole page of quotes in front of me and turn them into a song. I tend to find an ominous structure on guitar and the other guys will then come in and flesh out the entire song from there.

TSH: I guess you can’t make up the fact that the video for ‘White Wine Spritzer’ was made 15 miles from a nuclear power plant…

Head Ned: Ha! Yes! We're from Phoenix out in the middle of the desert. A few miles from us the place which provides all of our power is the Palo Verde nuclear plant. We had originally intended driving out and having the power plant in the background of the video. We envisioned us in the middle of night setting fire to couches with big lights and other crazy stuff going on. However, we saw the big alarm systems and thought we’d most likely attract federal authorities, ha! So we went in the other direction and went 15 miles the other way, which was a good distance, and we found a spot that was desolate in middle of nowhere to make the video.

TSH: What resonates with you mostly about the track 'Flanderdoodles’?

Head Ned: Well, that was one of the middle songs that we put together for the record. I remember a key factor was the delivery of the riffs. I came up with riffs that had pauses and I extended one of the pauses - it really gave the song a nice effect. This element has a comedic effect when we play live as it stops and is like a cliffhanger. It doesn't hit when you think it should and it comes in later. Like all the other songs, this track is in a drop d tuning on the guitar. You know, we were very much focused on minor keys to make the music more heavy and brooding.

TSH: ‘Godspeed Little Doodle’ is one of the more unique tracks on the record, especially given the length and tones…

Head Ned: Yeah, when I kicked off this track I thought that the record didn't have a long song so I wanted to write the long one. It was intentionally long as I wanted something more doomy and more atmospheric. For the track, I kept building guitar riffs and incorporated heavier punk lines in the middle of it. The song bounces between doom and punk. I feel it came out great and the length was just right. Also, the song was drawing from The Simpsons episode where they are lost at sea and so I was channelling the feeling of Ned feeling hopeless.

TSH: Is it quite the challenge to not burst into flames when you play live with so many layers on?

Head Ned: Haha! It was quite a challenge at first, but we're more used to it now. Generally where we are from, it's hot all the time. We travel to different cities, rock out onstage and we get a good workout. We're trained for performing and sweating, haha!

TSH: Which songwriters do you admire mostly?

Head Ned: Well, our musical tastes in the band are all over the board. We’re all into a lot of metal and also a lot of everything else. One of the bands that got me into hardcore was Thrice – Dustin Kensrue is a huge influence. I also really like August Burns Red and I’m a big fan of Queen. Oh, of course, Ned Flanders is a huge Beatles fan, and so am I.

TSH: Ned Flanders evokes a strong spiritual and religious side. Does this factor come into play within the band at all?

Head Ned: Ha! I guess it’s different for each member. I feel we're mainly hitting on Ned’s overly friendliness and unwavering funny side; we kind of avoid the religious side. It’s kind of odd, because at our live shows you have us each dressed as Ned Flanders, who of course is very religious, and the audience are throwing devil horns at us, ha!

TSH: With Hurricane Neddy being on of your favourite episodes. How highly do you rate Flanders’ angry quote to Lenny when he says ‘I don't know you, but I'm sure you're a jerk!’…

Head Ned: Haha! It's so damn good and one of my favourite bits from the episode. Lenny walks up in this little town of Springfield and Ned’s never met Lenny once, yet he totally shuns him. The explosiveness of Ned's attitude at that point is just anger. He’s mad at everyone in the town and Lenny just happens to be in the firing line. I also love it when Homer is trying to rattle his feathers at the end of the episode about stuff that must bother Ned – it’s hilarious!

TSH: You’re also a huge Futurama fan too…

Head Ned: Yeah, totally. Futurama is all round excellent. I also like Ren and Stimpy, as well as Beavis and Butthead. I’ve actually been watching Adventure Time recently. It’s a unique kids show, but it has some very funny elements to it and I’ve been watching it on tour. Also, Rick and Morty is brilliant too. Aside from cartoons, my fiancé is a huge Doctor Who fan, so I've delved into that universe. We actually have two cats named The Doctor and Rose.

TSH: What keeps you satisfied during your intense touring?

Head Ned: It's really the fans that bring out the happiness for us. When we hit the stage, it’s just so worth it and we have a lot of fun. We recently incorporated t-shirt canons in honour of Maude, who was killed by one. We fire them at the audience during the shows, they get t-shirts with ‘R.I.P.Maude’ written on them and they go nuts!

TSH: What’s pleased you most about the band’s progression to date?

Head Ned: The most pleasing factor is to be where we are now – it’s just so rewarding! I mean we were just Simpsons and metal fans and we merged two different worlds. We didn’t think people would understand or get what we were doing. However, now we're on this ground level connecting with Simpsons fans across the country – it’s beyond cool and very liberating. We appreciate that people have got into this and that they are willing to join in and party with us.

I was thinking about it and maybe Pearls is the weaponsdealer this time round. Ok, to expand on this - I was thinking of giving them an item that would allow them to see clearly in the shadow world. A personal object that would, through spiritual energy, allows them to see clearly through the fogs in the shadow world like teddy’s glasses do for the p4 cast. Something like that.

I mostly got the idea from when Pearl imbued the magatama with spiritual energy, which allowed him to see Psyche Locks. I was wondering how to translate Pearl’s role here, since she’s an adorable little kid and I don’t want to leave her out, and this - spiritual sight clearing device! Which helps them channel certain powers, like Apollo’s Sight, Athena’s Hearing, Phoenix’s Psyche Locks, Miles Logic Chess etc., or help summon their personas. Or both.

My original thoughts were for Pearls to transform the Weapons into the form of their Personal Object, but small innocent Pearls getting access to weapons didn’t really sit right with me, so I changed it to Sight Clearing Object. I think it works better that way tbh.

Weapon dealers could be the detectives (at least for the first part - see this cool post by onyourwings for more details! Although nothing is set in stone yet haha :’D), but idk. hmm. I was kind of hoping to see them as support charas who have to go through their time in the tv world, but I think they could be the Real World Investigation Party Supporters or something. Again, not sure.

I wonder if I could get the Judge to be the Weapon dealer… but in terms of storyline he’s like Igor so… nggh I’ll just leave the slot open for now I guess.

                                     DEFENCE ATTORNEYS

- Phoenix Wright -

Sight Clearing Object: Magatama | Weapon: Shield (mb with sword)

Magatama because that’s how he’s able to see all those psyche locks (like the fog!), which get him close to the truth. Plus, it is canon he gets his powers from the Magatama, leaving it out would be a gigantic travesty in my opinion haha.

Shield since I vision Phoenix as a very defence-based fighter, due to his ridiculous luck at escaping accidents. Seriously, coming out of a car crash with only a sprained ankle? A raging devil riverfall with only a cold? This guy’s stamina’s and defence is ridiculously high. Also, he just, I dunno, seems like someone who’s a really defensive fighter? Not the type to go all out attack straight off the bat, unlike some prosecutors we know. Not sure why I think that way tbh. So I gave him a shield.

But since he’s the original character, giving him a sword also works, since its unique in that he’s the only one who can switch into another stance, and gives him the chance to go more on the offensive. His defences would go down, but the boost in attack power should help cover for that. So his primary weapon is a shield, while his secondary weapon (which is admittedly not used much) is the sword. Preferably a guan dao or a sabre, since both can be used effectively in one hand and with a shield.

Darkness more than light, fire, ice, electricity, wind, the Wild card has all and protects them and humanity with his shield, sword hidden near his hip for the few cases when a defensive approach is no longer needed, when the time to attack is right.

- Apollo Justice -

Sight Clearing Object: Bracelet | Weapon: Bow

Bracelet! Because his bracelet is actually what he uses to concentrate his focusing power so eyy, too good to pass up. Also, its clearly very important to him. And aa5 proves that he’s unable to really turn it off so in this au I can just pass it off as a side effect that just revealed what was already there or something haha. So much plots I can use it for mwahahaha.

As for why the bow - Originally, it was gauntlets, but it didn’t feel right, and he has pretty much average strength. @onyourwings and @worldbeyondtheworld agreed and provided the perfect alternative - the Bow! Which fits ridiculously well considering that the God Apollo uses a bow. It’d put his sharp eyesight to good use too, and we definitely need more far-ranged members on this team. Pfft imagine him using his Chord of Steel to tell others to get out of the way while he shoots from a distance - it’d be both cute and badass!

Wind that carries his shouts to afar, that caresses his cheeks and ruffles his hair and guides his arrows directly to home, blowing back the enemies in a gale that is as determined as the hurricane of determination in his soul.

- Athena Cykes -

Sight Clearing Object: Widget | Weapon: Gauntlets

Ok, I chose Widget as the SCO because she often uses it to figure out the emotions she hears, which in turn helped her find the truth - and it’s important to her, as well, due to it being a memento from her mom. Plus, Widget is an emotional-measuring device, which can come in pretty handy to detecting emotional distress and helping people accept their shadow selves without another freakout. So Widget it is!

As for why she’s given gauntlets, well, canon states she’s got self defence training, and I still remember that scene where she body throws Apollo over her shoulder in AA5 (lol rip Apollo). She’s strong, pretty aggressive when angered and she’s also got a reaction gif of her smacking her fists together, like she’s preparing to punch someone, so. Gauntlets.

Bright, like fire and energetic, like the electricity that crackles around her body, sparking out of her fists as she slams them together in anticipation, thrumming and humming a tune so fine that only her ears can hear.

- Raymond shields -

Sight Clearing Object: Pink Notebook | Weapon: Hammer?

Ok, I know he only appears in AAI2. But he’s still kinda important (definitely more important than the Payne Brothers even though they appear nearly every game) and he’s a good guy. He’s definitely a key player, much like Sebastian and Kay. Plus, the defence team needs more people and I like him (I like all the charas in this game actually). And so here he is.

I chose the Pink Notebook as his SCO because its the only thing he had with him during the past and the present.

As for the hammer, well. We kind of needed one, and I couldn’t think of what would suit him well enough. So I just went with the hammer.

- Miles Edgeworth -

Sight Clearing Object: White King Chess Piece | Weapon: Spear

Ok, the reason for the White King Chess Piece is because of the Logic Chess Sequences. In it, Edgeworth takes the white part of the chessboard, which is why his piece is White. And the King represents absolute authority and is the most important part of the game - without him you lose - So I figured that a King Chess Piece would work due to the symbolism. As the head Prosecutor and leader of Good on the Prosecuting Side, Miles more than deserves the White King Piece.

As for a Spear, well, I admittedly got the idea from aa1 case 5, the really long one that first introduced Emma Skye. The prosecuting award had the Spear so I thought ‘eyy, why not’ and thus, Spear. Plus it also serves as a good parallel to the Shield of Phoenix Wright - unbeatable Spear vs unbreakable Shield, which is alluded to in the awards in AA1 C5. Also! I forgot to add but World came up with the idea for Spear first - didn't include that bit because I was tired and forgot, sorry!

light and dark, intertwining with each other like yin and yang, centering around his spear and placing his soul to rest, driving him towards the truth.

Sight Clearing Object: Brooch |Weapon: Whip

I had trouble thinking this one up, but while I was looking over her character pictures I noticed a similarity - that blue brooch she wears at her neck. It appears in every single one of her sprites. Not even joking - official art, AA2, AA3, even AAI2 she has that same brooch at her neck. Clearly its an important part of her daily attire, so it serves pretty well as her SCO, I think.

She uses the whip in game as a tool of subjugation, so its pretty much canon for her already. Nine-O-Cat tails is probably the ultimate whip for her to unleash her wrath on the foolishly foolish shadows, although I don’t think she’d unleash that wrath onto people while holding the Nine-O-Cat tail whip. That thing was used as a torture weapon during the middle ages - its pretty brutal. I pity anyone who earns her wrath while she’s holding her normal whip, though.

Ice, so cold that it burns deep inside her heart like true fire, causing frostbite and ice to form wherever her whip struck.

- Sebastian Debeste -

Sight Clearing Object: Baton | Weapon: Knives

Sebestian uses the Baton in his animations, which is good enough for me. It’s probably pretty important to him, and somewhat iconic for him.

As for the knife, well. Originally I thought sword, to rival Edgeworth, but we’ve already got Simon as the Swordmaster. So I tried thinking about something similar to a baton in terms of length and maneuverability, and I came upon Knives. Around the same length as the baton, and serves as a good close-range weapon- although Sebastian with a knife is.... well, he’ll have to go straight up to fight them close range. And he seems a pretty scaredy guy. I dunno. But hey - he ran straight to the dumpster to dig up evidence! And stood up to his douchebag of a dad! So kid’s got guts.

Or alternatively chakra sticks! They’re like sticks, but held in both hands and used for attacking. That could work.

Fire spreading across the blade, heating it into the bright red that comes from the forge, held out determinedly in front of him with one hand like his baton, flames flaring out like the swell of a crescendoing orchestra, like his dad’s lighter, and spreading up and around him like a protective blanket before going for the kill. Alternatively ice, frost freezing onto the sticks and burning everything cold, freezing spots into ice that shatter at the next blow he delivers.

- Klavier Gavin -

Sight Clearing Object: G-shaped necklace | Weapon: String wires

Klavier has a lot of love for music, and since he’s associated with guitar - dude even plays a riff on air guitar when its epic enough in court - it should probably be something related to music. But I also wanted it to be associated with something he wears or is able to carry around easily, like the others, and a guitar is not easy to carry around. Especially when fighting. So I grabbed a look at his appearance, thought for a bit, and chose the necklace around his neck. It’s noticeable and what he wears, and I’m fairly sure its merchandise for his band The Gavinners (nice self promotion Klavier haha), which means its related to music, and so G-shaped necklace it is! An alternative was the chain he’s wearing around the belt, but since I can’t see if its still there in AA5, eh. I’ll stick with the necklace.

As for why not the rings he wears on his fingers, well, its a part of his weapon. Since it is no longer two am in the morning (its 1am in the morning! Good enough!) I’m awake enough to come up with a different weapon for this guy that still fits what I wanted to include - usage of music and range, really. Wire strings are ranged weapons that slice through opponents or trap them, and require strategic and creative thinking - something Klavier has in spades. Ranged, because he seems non-confrontational physically, preferring to hang back and smile it away instead, which would translate into fighting as attacking from afar. They also require deft hands - again, something Klavier has due to years of experience playing guitar for his band - and strings are often used to produce music with the sound of the string’s vibrations. Related to music, requires intelligence and deft hands, ranged - Suits Klavier pretty well, I think.

Heat emininating from deep within him,umming a couple of tunes from the Guitar Serenade as he lifts his hands as if he were thanking a crowd, twitching his fingers as if they were on guitar strings, smiling beautifully as flames pour down the strings like a spiderweb on fire, charring anyone in its snares into ashes.

Sight Clearing Object: Taka Feather | Weapon: Katana
