It really is amazing what stress does to a person. What working a job where people chip away at your emotional and mental health does. Because:
1- my creativity levels had plummeted. I was writing for a good streak there and I’ve had no energy to write lately. Or hell, even read.
2- no motivation to even clean my room, and I wash my clothes because I need to wear them to work but having the capacity to clean my space? Deep clean the bathroom or kitchen? Zero.
3- motivation to call people? Almost gone, which to anyone who knows me- I’m pathological caller. I always call, I always text/respond in minutes maybe it’s my loneliness or boredom or the fact that I don’t do much outside of work but now? I’m just tired in so many ways.
Luckily. Only two days left of working this job then I’ll be back full time at a job that’s my actual profession

I’m gonna piggyback off this and also add:
If you’re worried about the photo lines or autopgraph lines and Charlie not having enough time to get to everyone. He will. He MAKE THE TIME. I’ve seen it twice now (went to MegaCon back in March) and heard of it at other cons; Charlie stays until he can get to every last fan. At mega con he himself pushed back his breaks and lunches and made sure to get every person who paid for his stuff or who even wanted to meet him.
He really is so so immensely kindhearted and genuine, he is truly engaging and is so so happy to hear what fans tell him. He even said it in the panel, he loves hearing what Daredevil means to fans, what his role as Matt Murdock means to fans. And he is so truly grateful that all these fans helped save Daredevil in the first place. Yes, he’s so kind and sweet and the nicest person, but I think this is how he feels he can give some of his gratitude back to the fans. People gave him friendship bracelets (my theory is those were also T. Swifts haha) and he wore them the whole time. He doesn’t rush through through the autograph line (photos are quick cuz they have to be but even then he makes sure to greet you by name and thanks YOU)
And some con tips in case this is your first one: bring a portable charger or your cord. Bring snacks and water. Meds too if you need to take them. Maybe order a little foldable stool to bring so you can pop it open and sit while waiting lol.
Pasta! I'm so happy you got to meet charlie!!!! We need a play by play of every interaction!!!! I'm going to meet him in a month and I'm so excited and scared haha
I wrote some play-by-plays and posted about our interactions so those are up now! And I can honestly say he is, without a doubt, the kindest, warmest, and most wonderful actor or celeb I've met. I was so, so nervous to meet him as @wonderlandmind4 can confirm. He's my favorite actor, who played what became my favorite character ever, and whose work quite literally changed the course of my life (since his portrayal of DD led to TRT which has snowballed into this massive thing, on top of how seeing Matt's struggle helped me process a lot of heavy stuff I struggled with). On top of that, I wanted to ask him to hold the red thread for our photo and I wasn't entirely sure he'd be down for that, AND I wanted to mention at the autograph how much his portrayal of Matt had helped me. And my anxiety levels were off the charts.
But he made it so, so easy to talk to him, to ask him to hold the thread or do other fun things for photo ops, and to interact with him. I've never seen anyone at events like this engage as easily, as happily, and as warmly as he does. He wants to talk with you, and hear what you have to say. He's genuinely happy to see you and sign things and for you to show him cool DD things (@intricate-melody got to show him her stunning DD tattoo and he signed her arm!). He cares about what you have to say, and his big smile when you come up to him is so kind that you just feel like this weight is off your shoulders, because he's so happy you're there, and that just... makes you feel more confident. Because when someone's happy to see you, so happy they get those little crinkles around their eyes, well, it's a lot easier to talk to them.
So from someone who was CRAZY nervous about meeting Charlie, I can tell you - you're going to have an absolutely AMAZING time meeting him. ❤️

Stuff I'm Looking Forward To in March
Wow, somehow it's already month 3 of 2024. In addition to Daylight Savings Time (March 10 - Spring ahead), Ramadan (March 10-April 9), St. Patrick's Day (March 17), first day of Spring (March 19), Palm Sunday (March 24), Holi (March 25), Good Friday (March 29), and Easter (March 31) here is what's on my radar this month:
Movies:
Dune: Part Two
Denis Villeneuve has become one of the great visual stylists of recent years thanks to films like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. I named his film Dune Part One, one of my Best Movies of 2021. How good Part One really was depends on Part Two, which drops 3/1.
Knox Goes Away
Michael Keaton has always been a tremendous actor and now he's back in the director's chair for the second time with a starring role about a contract killer who has a form of dementia and he attempts to connect with his estranged son. Oh and Al Pacino co-stars! Opens 3/15.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
A Ghostbusters sequel is a tall order. Jason Reitman's 2021 sequel Ghostbusters Afterlife actually had its moments and it had a lot to say about living up to a legacy, in the film it's the grandchildren of Egon, but it could also be Jason Reitman about the fear and honor of continuing a film series that his dad Ivan began. The new sequel is directed by Gil Kenan, who co-wrote this with Jason. The fact that original Ghostbuster cast members are back gives me hope. Sequel drops 3/22.
Music:
Sheer Mag Playing Favorites
I was lucky enough to see Philly rockers Sheer Mag at House of Blues in May 2022. After two solid albums, they are finally back with their third, dropping on 3/1. (Review to come)
Liam Gallagher & John Squire Liam Gallagher John Squire
Former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher's solo career has been a mixed back, but his album As You Were was one of my Best Albums of the 2010s. As shown in the 2019 documentary Liam Gallagher: As It Was, he doesn't need to play music for money or fame, he has plenty. He plays because he loves music. Now he's doing a new album with John Squire, former guitarist for The Stone Roses. Sounds like a serious meeting of musical minds! Album drops 3/1.
The Black Crowes Happiness Bastards
The first new studio album from The Black Crowes since 2009 is cause for celebration. After a bitter break-up in 2015, the brothers Chris and Rich Robinson announced they were reuniting in 2019. In early 2020, I caught an acoustic live show from Brothers of a Feather (my last concert before the pandemic lockdowns) and since that show, The Black Crowes have had some reunion tours (NOTE: by reunion - I mean Chris and Rich, not the original lineup). They've released some anniversary albums, but this marks the group's first studio album in 15 years. Looking forward to it when it drops on 3/15.
The Dandy Warhols Rockmaker
I've always loved Portlandia's The Dandy Warhols. Through this blog, I've had the pleasure of interviewing lead Dandy Courtney Taylor-Taylor and keyboardist / bassist Zia McCabe, the band's 2019 Boston concert, and their excellent 2019 album Why You So Crazy. Now the band is back with a new album dropping on 3/15! (Review to come)
Film Festivals:
Boston Underground Film Festival
Boston's fun genre film festival for horror, fantasy and bizarre is back. I've had the pleasure of covering this fest from 2016 to 2019 and returning last year. The fest returns to The Brattle Theatre (Cambridge, MA) from 3/20 to 3/24!
Conventions:
Northeast Comic Con
I've had a blast covering the Northeast Comic Con for years now (read my coverage here) and the Spring 2024 edition returns with guests like Kevin Chapman (who I worked with on Monument Ave), a Growing Pains reunion of Tracey Gold, Jeremy Miller and Julie McCullough, The Go-Go's drummer Gina Schock and more! Convention is at the Boxborough Regency (Boxborough, MA) from 3/8-3/10. (Coverage to come).
Awards Season:
The awards season for the best of 2023 continues on with the Razzie Awards, actually the Worst of 2023 (3/9) and the Academy Awards (3/10).
In a Category all its own...

i’m so sad thinking about how in 2019 when i last worked the philly comic con the girl in charge of hiring con staff literally told me to apply for nycc that year because she wanted me to work it, i had my IN,, but it was too late to plan it at that point but then the pandemic wiped out the philly con from the map and now i want to go work nycc. sad!

2014, Wizard World Comic Con. Philly I was cosplaying as Purple Link. I was so excited to be apart of the costume contest. Especially with Jason David Frank(Green Ranger) being the special guest judge. He was really into seeing what cosplays made. He asked to see my Master Sword and asked what it was made out of. I was just a 2x4 but he didn't think so. The paint I used made it feel cold to the touch. That moment I'll never forget. #jasondavidfrank #greenpowerranger #gogopowerrangers #mightymorphinpowerrangers #greenranger #wizardworld #comiccon #link #purplelink #loz #legendofzelda #cosplay #cosplaygirl #nerd #nintendo #gamer #gamerlife #gamergirl #whatifzeldawasagirl (at Convention Center Philadelphia) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClL-a5tukMm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

John Cassaday passed today, September 9 2024.
I saw John at the Baltimore Comic Con 2-3 years in a row, and I spoke with him briefly at both the NYCC while we were both milling around the Marvel area, and at Wizard World Philly at the Bar.
John was soft spoken, reserved, polite, and above all he was observant and kind.
Comics lost one of our best today. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.
He was only 52.

That time we were Ultraman
30 years ago I was showrunner for a comic con in Philly called Comicfest. Harvey comics came to the show to hawk its Ultraman (Great/G) Towards the Future comic (Written by Dwayne McDuffie) To help push the book, Tsuburaya Productions - Ultraman Global sent along Ultraman G. More precisely, they sent along the costume and said we needed to hire someone of the right height and measurements to play him.
It arrived in a small one foot to a side square box, taken up mostly by the helmet, inside which the costume fit almost completely. We kept it in the show manager's office when it wasn't in use.
After the show was over, and we were packing up, out buddy Steve Chaput had a confession. "the other day, when nobody was around…" he said blushingly, "I put the Ultraman helmet on and was all 'zoom zoom" around the room, arms out…"
I nodded sagely, taking in his words. And I responded, "It smelled terrible, didn't it?"
Oh how we laughed.
