Don’t mind me Imma just put down two longfic (or mediumlong idek) ideas for when my current blackmadhi one is done: 

- (The fluffy one; Blackmadhi and others) Phoenix and Miles are finally getting married!  Athena keeps prodding Simon about who his “plus one” will be, and he continually tells her to leave him alone but starts having to interact more and more with Nahyuta as they plan for Miles’ wedding.  Would also include Wrightworth (obv), Klapollo, Junithena, maybe Franmaya, and others idk.  Also Maya would be Phoenix’s “best woman” and Miles would have both Franziska and Gumshoe as his.  Debating on whether or not there would be full wedding parties, which would include basically the Wright Anything Agency on Phoenix’s side, and the main prosecutors on Miles’. 

(Also imagining Klav trying to be like “Herr Edgeworth’s bachelor party will be at this hip club” and Simon shushing him and saying they should go to some nerd thing with Steel Samurai shows.  Simon wins.)

- (The angsty, messed up one; Simon-centric, Phantomquill, maybe Blackmadhi but also others) Basically there are multiple phantoms - the organization that Simon’s Phantom was part of basically kidnaps and grooms new spies from a young age.  Said organization is not happy at all that Simon took down one of their best agents, and makes an effort to get their revenge.  They kidnap Simon by faking an attack on Nahyuta while he is visiting - knowing that since Nahyuta is a head of government, people will focus on him and leave Simon relatively alone.  But they aren’t interested in killing Simon; rather, they want to destroy him in other ways; they impersonate everyone in his life and psychologically torture him to the point where he can no longer tell who is real and what he actually feels.  

(Basically just torturing Simon psychologically because I like to hurt my faves apparently.  IDK MAN I’VE HAD THIS IDEA FOR A WHILE BUT IT IS SUPER FUCKED UP EVEN MORE IN MY HEAD like it is dark and idk we’ll see if I ever do it I love fucking with Simon apparently.)

Top 7 ships

I was tagged by @wanderingthroughwickford to do this.  I wanted to also add Top 7 ships I don’t like lol but I’ll keep the salt to myself (for once).  Right now my main fandom is Ace Attorney so all my ships will come from that. In sort-of order, random notes added if need be. -Diego Armando/Mia Fey (Miego - although Pearl!Mia or Maya!Mia/Godot really icks me out.   This pairing is amazing and crushing all at once.  I remember the first time I played Trials and Tribulations... like, real talk I can’t tell you many other times I cried so much over a pairing, but Miego destroyed me so I keep coming back FOR MORE.) -Jake Marshall/Angel Starr (Starrshall; I only like this post - RIse From the Ashes though.  There’s something about the circumstances that bring them together when I don’t think they would have really been friends, otherwise, that really gets to me.) -Bobby Fulbright/Simon Blackquill (Blackbright.  and i don’t consider this interchangeable with Phantomquill at all.  But um, if you’ve followed my blog for .3 seconds, you know my feelings on Blackbright) -Datz Are’bal/Dhurke Sahdmadhi (DADS -  I don’t think I ever shipped a ship in AA as fast as I started shipping them;  their bond is remarkable, even if you don’t ship them.  They’re just awesome together.  Can be cute, funny, angsty, sexy, you name it; I just adore them.) -Klavier Gavin/Daryan Crescend (KlavDar; I don’t ship them happily-ever-after though, even in an AU where Turnabout Serenade doesn’t exist.  Daryan/Ema is endgame for me in that, and as for Klavier, I honestly don’t ship him with anyone else.  BUT I LOVE TO THINK OF HOW THEY FORMED THE GAVINNERS, ROSE TO STARDOM TOGETHER... hnggh and just frickin Daryan being a snarkmaster, there’s so much to love in this pairing for me.) -Maggey Byrde/Dick Gumshoe - (Magshoe?  Gumbyrde? Idk, I don’t think there’s an official name for them.  Anyway I think I am one of the few people who likes the idea of them not having kids and just raising a billion Missiles.) -Athena Cykes/Juniper Woods - (Junithena - What a pure, lovely pairing.  Replaying Turnabout Academy a couple times really sold me on how wonderful they’d be as a couple) Honorable Mentions (aka an excuse for me to shout out to friends, about ships we enjoy together) -Franziska von Karma/Adrian Andrews - I’ve always liked them but @wanderingthroughwickford really got me to explore them on a deeper level, and they’re honestly The Perfect Couple.  I think they’re also an excellent pairing, together and separately, to explore various mental health issues and I wish there was more content for them. -Lana Skye/Miles Edgeworth - This was my first ship when I started playing AA, and it turned out, beyond my expectation, to be @thecommoncoldkills ‘s first ship too.  It’ll always be special to me.  -Manov Mistree/Roger Retinz - I would hardly consider this a “ship” since in my head it’s ONE HUNDRED PERCENT one-sided and never comes to fruition in any sense.  But there’s very few things that break my heart  like the backstory I’ve given Mistree and his unfortunate fate of falling for someone who is completely incapable of making mature, healthy life choices.  I’m so invested in this...whatever you wanna call it...Shipwreck? Phantombright/black quill Death Note type shenanigans where they are cuffed together for uhhh extra precautions. The intimacy of every time you move that arm, it moves the other persons arm too. But also it's really annoying and they are probably already not happy about the situation. And still trying to accomplish a goal

The phantom?

Why I like him

LISTEN I LOVE THE PHANTOM HE IS JUST, TO ME, SO COMPELLING AS A VILLAIN AND A CHARACTER AND I WISH WE COULD HAVE LEARNED A BIT MORE ABOUT HIS BACKSTORY AND ALL THAT.  Like I love the idea of a villain who is not sadistically motivated, but instead has trouble with even feeling basic emotions and who is driven by a need to survive in the world that he lives in.  He has had such an impact on our protags while being (legit) a phantom, unable to be caught until the last minute.  

And since I thrive on angst and hurt and all that, he just fuels that for me, due to his interactions especially with Simon.  He was able to play everyone so well and got into so many people’s heads in such a twisted sort of way I just love him.  

Why I don’t

He did kill Bobby Fulbright, which will always upset me.  I would have really liked it if he had just maybe imprisoned/captured Fulbright, and in my own AUs, that is what he did.  I did really love Fulbright as a character, especially sitting next to Simon, so it hurt a lot to find out that he was dead all along and that I would not see him again in future games.

WELL I GUESS TURNABOUT FOR TOMORROW IS THE OBVIOUS CHOICE since it is the only one where he appears as himself, but also I do love Turnabout for Tomorrow, soooo, yes. 

Favorite Line

"............Aww. Look what you did to my mask.“

I love this line because it was where he finally had to let go of his Fulbright persona and it was kind of the beginning of the end.  Plus the delivery of the line, even in text, was so eerie and chilling and I just loved it. 

Also, when speaking to Simon, “Ha ha ha! That's the spirit! Justice must be swift and true. I see it in your eyes! There IS hope for your rehabilitation and return to society! I will never give up on you!”

Post reveal, this line goes from being a supportive message to something really fucked - he implanted this idea in Simon’s head about being someone who truly believed in him and wanted to think the best of him, but was actually just playing with him the whole time, and I just love that coming from my villains. 

Favorite Outfit

So I love him in his Fulbright outfit/persona, but I also love him with the Gyaxa jacket and the mask (tw in link for phantomquill stuffs) because it kind of hits the phantom persona home and makes him seem more like a spectre and less like a human being.

WE ALL KNOW I’M A SLUT FOR PHANTOMQUILL

But seriously, phantomquill is just so fucked up and wonderful to me.  Like it is not one of those OTPs where I’m like “relationship goals!” because ships don’t need to be like that, but instead just need to have an interesting dynamic, and that is what the Phantom and Simon have in droves, in my opinion.  They are so intertwined and obsessed with each other unhealthily, and definitely have that “only one allowed to defeat you” mentality happening between them.  I like to think that Simon stirs some weird emotions in the Phantom before his breakdown; he knows something is happening but cannot really describe it other than saying that he finds Simon “interesting.”  Even after his arrest, the Phantom has such an impact on Simon and vice-versa, and Phantom walks that fine line between obsessive love and hatred when dealing with Prosecutor Blackquill.

I don’t know if I really have one for him?  I have seen a lot of awesome stuff with him and Calisto Yew - both in the same organization and being trained together and stuff - and I totally can get behind that, but I think it is hard for him to form any sort of emotional attachments.  Plus, since I definitely see him as becoming obsessed with Simon, I don’t see him as having much room outside of that to form any sort of connections with anyone else, even on a semi-friendly level.

Headcanon

He was brought into his organization when he was a child; his parents were poor and sold him into it for money for their other children.  He showcased signs of psychopathy when he was young, so his parents honestly believed this would be better for everyone; the organization would train him and would be able to take care of him better than they would have, and they would get the resources needed to support their other kids.  

He endured a lot of suffering in his training in the organization, since they had to work to undo any sort of identity he had - he became one of their top agents, but not without a cost.  He has zero memory of his past life but sometimes dreams of a young girl smiling at him (his sister).  

Unpopular Opinion

I guess just really liking him is unpopular?  I find him to be such an interesting villain because his motivation is not necessarily sinister, and I personally am not so into interpretations of him where he is sadistic or anything like that.  His whole persona is not having many emotions - he needs to fake them in order to completely encompass the character he is playing, and he is so detached from himself and others that he cannot really have the sadistic motivations of, say, Matt (for example).  I also liked his reveal, as tragic as it was for me because I loved Fulbright, but I definitely screamed “NOOOOO” when I realized who he was and it hurt me.

But I like both him and real!Fulbright, and I guess that is unpopular too?  Like I don’t need to choose one over the other (same thing with blackbright vs phantomquill; I can and do like both).

A wish

For us to return to the whole idea of his organization as a global spy network.  I doubt we will, but I really like the whole idea of his organization being involved in something greater, and us needing to use him or return to him somehow for help.

I know for blackmadhi you headcanon/have the idea that they 'did the do' sometime after meeting, before the end of the game (or smth along those lines), but for blackbright/phantomquill, do you think anything of a similar nature occured? Or was it more like implied/subliminal *looks at cuffs and jolts of justice*

I do, actually!  I kind of go back and forth on if this is their first/only time hooking up, but I headcanon that Simon and Bobby/the Phantom slept together the night before Simon’s execution, because Simon requested it.  He actually had fallen in love with his Fool Bright but refused to ever give voice to it, and played it off as though he was asking for a last meal sort of thing.  Really, he just wanted to be with this man for one night before his death, which he was at that point certain was going to occur.  He has a bit of stockholm syndrome about it due to the whole jolts of justice and everything, but he excused them as things Fulbright “had” to do when he thought about it in his cell later on.  

The Phantom agrees because he thinks that Bobby would concede, and frankly, he had become obsessed enough with Simon in his own right.  I wouldn’t call what he felt as “love,” simply because the Phantom doesn’t really know what that even entails.  It is an obsession; he thinks about Simon constantly, and finds him to be the best adversary that he ever came across.  Seeing Simon so unguarded and unfolded underneath him would just be...interesting.  He couldn’t deny that it was something he wanted, though he wouldn’t be able to pin it as an emotional response; he just wanted to see all of Simon Blackquill, and wanted to be the last person to see him unhinged. 

The Phantom has a “only I can defeat you” sort of mentality to Simon (and vice-versa).  If he was ever able to identify or regain a full emotional range, he could have fallen in love with Simon.  He could have.

(Man, I hadn’t realized how much stuff  wrote until now. But as everything I have written prior to 2010 sucks balls, the choice is thankfully narrowed down a fair bit. I am mostly rating them based on how much I enjoyed writing them. I am picking completed fics only.)

Road to Ruin (Ace Attorney): a 200,000 words long backstory fic (I am currently in the process of revising it and posting it on Ao3 chapter by chapter), about a character I hate. I mean, everyone hates this guy and with good reason, but he did have the potential for some kickass backstory. Took me two years to write and it has its flaws, but it’s still my favorite out of everything I wrote. Even though it made me promise myself to never again write a backstory on someone older than 70. Too much stuff to write. 

Flat Dreams, (Gravity Falls): the first GF long fic I ever wrote, and one of my overall faves. I loved writing it, even if it kept me up at night several times because ideas kept piling up and wouldn’t let me sleep. Oh, remember that promise to myself not to write backstory for any character older than 70? Yeah. Pffft. I know, right?

Turnabout to the Past (Ace Attorney): this was supposed to start out as a brief story, but ended up getting over 100,000 words long, spawning an even longer sequel and a bunch of oneshots. But it just wrote itself and I loved that. It’s been a while, but I’m still Phantomquill trash. And besides, we got a character whose identity, true personality and backstory were a clean slate - how could I resist giving him some?

Cat’s Cradle (9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors): I think that at this point everyone can tell I love coming up with backstories for seriously trashy characters. So of course here’s a backstory of the Cradle executives. Doesn’t get much trashier than that. This one was a challenge because it took a lot of careful planning to make the plot work (plenty of math involved) while I usually let the story unfold by itself. Still, I loved writing it.

Duality (Gabriel Knight): the fandom was long dead when I began writing this, so I took my sweet time with it - no real pressure to update regularly. Still, I had a lot of fun with this. All canon characters are amazing and I loved writing them. If you haven’t played the Gabriel Knight games, you’re missing out.
