AS WITH ALL MY MOSAICS DON'T LOOK TOO CLOSELY IF YOU ARE AVOIDING ALL SPOILERS! So you may have heard of a game that came out this summer, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE, the one I've been posting marker drawings of characters from? Well I needed to do a mosaic for it so badly, I have been poking at this since convention season ended and have this to show! I wanted to do an ensemble piece featuring different chapters, people and places, but still keeping the abstract of the Mystery Labryinth! Both it and Kanai Ward are very fun settings, I enjoyed exploring them! Tumblr is compressing the image a bit, please open fully for a better look! I'll reblog it with some closer crops later too. This one will be a print for the 2024 convention season and appear in my shop after that!

Pro Heroes

Yukiana Midoriya Yaoyorozu | Snowbelle: The eldest daughter of Dekuiru and Equilibrium. She is a popular Moonlight Hero who has a side career as an actress, idol, and fashion designer. She's married to Concerto and they have a daughter named Kyobi and are expecting a son named Izuto.

Gakudan Yaoyorozu | Concerto: The eldest son of Creati and Earphone Jack. As their son, he is also one of the heirs to Yaoyorozu Enterprises. He is based in America with his wife Snowbelle.

Katsura Kirishima | Bombshell: The second eldest child of Red Riot and Dynamite. Despite the controversy surrounding her family, she's risen above it and has shown potential to be a top hero.

Makoto Tetsutetsu | Iron Maiden: One of the elder twin daughters of Ironhide and Amazon. Another with the potential to be a top hero, she owns a joint agency with her sister Mercurina. She is engaged to Shockwire.

Tetsuka Tetsutetsu | Mercurina: The younger twin of Iron Maiden. She's gained fame due to her ballet fighting style as well as her prima ballerina aesthetic. She's considering temporarily retiring from heroics to pursue a career as one.

Akiko Iida | Cyberix: Eldest child of Ingenium, Prince Shining, and Mei Hatsume (biologically Ingenium and Mei's). A unique heroine who uses a mecha suit to fight, she's also a licensed Support Hero.

Mizumi Uraraka | Aquana: Daughter of Uravity and her wives (biologically Uravity and Alien Queen). Another heroine who incorporates dance into her image, except she uses figure skating. Despite her relatively young age, she'll do whatever it takes to prove herself as a capable hero and figure skater.

Himeka Shinso | Ruler: Daughter of Mastermind and Phantom Thief, she's just as bratty and spoiled as rich girls come with a side of being domineering. Yet despite this she has amassed a large, loyal fanbase and even got a boyfriend.

Masamune Awase | Kagutsuchi: Son of Welder and Valkyrie Venus (yes I paired Usagi with Awase sue me). While licensed as a Support Hero, that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a little bit of action.

Shizuho Togata | Starlight: Daughter of Lemillion and Suneater. Another Moonlight Hero who is the face of a popular idol girl group and popular TV program.

Amaya Kumosuku | Tempest: Daughter of Gale Force and Skydancer. Works closely with her cousin Chargestorm as family does.

So is blazblue gonna just gloss over the myriad of races in blazblue or am I missing something like the penguin people on jobs stage

There are several races:

Humans - they’re everywhere and most of them are capable of Ars Magus, while only a select few can use magic and sorcery. They can turn into vampires if bit by one, and into Drive-Unions if they develop a crystal.

Beastkin - the only known three are Jubei, Tomonori, and Munefuyu. They are cat-types but others likely exist.

Half-Beastkin - they first appear in Phase Shift 1, but Kokonoe is also a half-beastkin since she’s Nine and Jubei’s daughter.

Demi-Humans - half-human-half-animals created to fight in the Dark War. Makoto is the best known example. Demi-humans, and half-beastkins get lumped together with beastkins a lot of the time and all 3 face social stigma. Demi-humans are likely the most common type of beastkin bc normal beastkin are very rare, and half-beastkins are rarer. Penguin, cat, dog, squirrel, etc. types have been seen.

Vampires -  a pretty loosely defined group. The Alucards and Fuzzy are considered vampires.

Illusionary Creatures - beings made by the more intense emotions of those who get close to the Azure. Clavis Alucard is the only known one. Their existences are like Drives.

Drives - specifically this is Izanami. She’s Amaterasu’s Drive and is purely immortal because of it.

Lycanthropes - basically werewolves created by sorcery a long time ago. They’re really rare, and Valkenahyn is the only known one.

Kaka - a clan made from Jubei’s genes before the Dark War. Less than 100 at a time and they mainly live in the Kaka village underneath Kagutsuchi.

Demons - they’re never seen in the series, but Hakumen has fought them, and what makes Tager big and red is because of demon genes that Kokonoe injected into him.

Ghouls - people who died that have been brought back to life. They’re pretty mindless. Fuzzy can reanimate them, and Relius can as well.

Sankishin - only putting this one here because of Susano’o. He gained a will and became his own person. Hakumen’s soul is pretty much perma in the Susano’o Unit now as well.

Embryo - Raquel was one of these that managed to take the form of a vampire. I suppose Nobody could be considered part of this category as well, so could Hinata but they only possessed the Embryo and weren’t actually it.

Grimoires- Touya was the Origin of the Grimoire that took the shape of a person. Mai is currently the No-Name Grimoire. Hazama is an Azure Grimoire, and Kazuma was likely one as well.

Prime Fields - artificial humans designed to explore the Boundary. There’s also the sub-category of Embryo Storages, Murakumo Units, and Kusanagi’s. Noel, Mu, Nu, Lambda, Es, Bell, etc. are here.

Black Beasts - there seems to be more than one or even two of them. Basically beings of pure destruction, and can be made from the failure to make a Kusanagi.

Artificial Causality Weapons -  Minerva. Relius’ Detonator line comes under this as well, so that include Ignis.

Cyborgs - this is Tager’s official race. A human augmented with machinery.

Nox Nyctores - most of them have cores which are made out of souls. Nirvana, Yukianesa, Take-Mikazuchi, and Requiem have all got demonstrated sentience.

Spirits - beings that can possess others. Terumi can possess people, but it looks like Trinity can only possess Nox’s.

Drive-Unions - humans who get a crystal and unlock their Drives. Their condition will nearly always kill them. It’s up to whoever to decide if they’re a subspecies of human, or just people with a terminal medical condition.

Apostles - a small group of human men under Spinner Superior’s control. I’m putting them as a different species for the same reason as D-Unions. They’re infected by weird bugs. When angered, they basically become massive insect-human hybrids with razor sharp claws, teeth, multiple legs, etc.

These two aren’t really species but I’ll put them here anyway:

Chrono Phantasma (phantoms of time) - exceptions to the timelines who are immune to phenomenon intervention. Rachel is the main example here.

Chrono Phantasma (ones who shouldn’t be here) - people who shouldn’t be at the timelines they’re at. They’ll eventually go back to the state they were. Celica is the big example here.

That’s all I can think of right now. There might be one or two more that I may have missed. I’m putting Nox’s and Causality Weapons there as well bc they’ve got sentience.Drive-Unions and Apostles can become normal humans again, but since they’ve normally got abilities and biology different from humans, I’ve put them as different species. It’s really up to your interpretation.The main species in BlazBlue society though are humans and demi-humans (the latter treated as second-class citisens). Kaka’s, beastkin, half-beastkin, and lycanthropes are known about but not really accepted as much by humans. Vampires and sentient grimoires like Mai and Hazama are extremely rare and not really known about by anyone.

Okay, now I’m curious to know how the events are going to play out after Yakou’s wife’s mystery Labyrinth.

One, since the culprit is technically fake!Zilch, does that mean his soul won’t be reaped from the Mystery Labyrinth since he is already dead from Chapter 0? Or is he still alive this time?

Second, will Yakou learn that Yomi was the one who sent the Book of Death to him in the Mystery Labyrinth like Yuma learned Yomi was the mastermind of Chapter 4 in-game, or will he learn it once he’s out of the Mystery Labyrinth?

Third, will the events after the Mystery Labyrinth play out differently this time, like if Yomi’s alive, he captures and arrests everyone like he intended to, or does Makoto still come in and save the day as usual?

I feel like the Mystery Labyrinths aren't limited to mysteries relating to finding the culprit of a murder. Obviously these situations tend to call for the labyrinth most, but there could be cases where the mystery involves finding the identity of a stalker, kidnapper, or other 'culprits' of that nature. They all end in the culprit's true identity being revealed and reaped, so it's not always the best idea to call upon the Mystery Labyrinth knowing this. However, it can happen. In that regard, the mystery needed to be solved for chapter 4's labyrinth is different that finding the one who actively committed the murder. Rather, it's about finding the identity of the 'mastermind,' AKA the one who originated the plan to kill Yakou's wife. Though in Yakou's eyes, before the full truth is revealed, the mastermind and actual murderer could've been one in the same. He banked on that answer the most.

After Shinigami reaps the soul of Dr. Huesca--the mastermind--the usual chapter 4 mindfuckery ensues of realizing the labyrinth isn't falling apart like normal. Turns out Yakou still has more to solve regarding the identity of Anonymous. As a last resort piece of evidence, Shinigami offers a scrap of the Anonymous letter sent to Yakou. She claims she burned it all as a part of the pact, but she ended up saving a piece of it for a moment just like this. Yakou understands much too late that Huesca was co-conspiring with Yomi Hellsmile, who sent out his personal hitman to do the dirty deed. The peacekeeper director taunts them openly, bragging about how Huesca's death was all a part of his ultimate plan. Vivia and Shinigami have to put all their strength into holding Yakou back from lunging at Yomi's mystery phantom in a fit of rage. The labyrinth is destroyed, leaving the detectives practically helpless.

Back in the real world, Yakou and Vivia are cornered by Yomi and his peacekeepers, angrily ordering the duo to surrender. Vivia steps up and threatens Yomi with his confession of being the co-conspirator to Yakou's wife's death. In a flash, Vivia drops limp on the floor. Yomi twirls the whip in his hands as he sharply smirks. He mutters to himself, yet loud enough to Yakou to hear, about how the pact served him well. His words shake Yakou to his core. Before the chief can exclaim his horror, More peacekeepers file in, the rest of the NDA detectives dragged in tow. They're all handcuffed, caught red-handed for trespassing and disturbing the peace. Yuma is kicked to the ground, whimpering in pain. Yakou stumbles to the ground and slides over to Yuma, keeping himself between the rookie and his lifelong rival. Yomi snickers as he plays with the thought of shooting down the detectives and leaving Yakou all by himself. With the law in the palm of his hand, he could frame Yakou for the massacre of his own tight-knit group. He got away with it once, he very well could do it again. Yakou will always be alone.

A distant voice states that Dr. Huesca was found dead in his room, but the emails clearly showed the one person wanted him gone the most. Yomi's wide grin morphs into one of fear as Makoto Kagutsuchi and the rest of the Peacekeeper higher-ups follow behind him. Martina, Seth, Guillaume, Dominic, and Swank stare at Yomi, all upset by his poor treatment of them. Vastly outnumbered, Yomi is checkmated. His game of chess has come to an end. Arrested, Yomi screams of revenge as the peacekeepers send him to rot in a prison cell. Makoto promises to Yakou that no harm will be done to him and his detectives, but they must vacate the premises and keep the ordeal under wraps. With nothing better to say, Yakou reluctantly agrees. Makoto hands Yakou a small gift box for his work in solving the four-year old murder. The NDA are free to return to the agency as one, and a newly-reformed peacekeeper division is on the horizon. But much to their misfortune, Kanai Ward's Ultimate Secret towers above them all.
