PHANTASM SEQUEL WEEK
I re-watched Phantasm 3: Lord Of The Dead (1994)
Is a week of Phantasm sequels, starting with the third one, a bad idea for a theme week? Probably, but I watched them while I was depressed and now you have to deal with it.
In this third installment in the Franchise, main characters Reggie and Mike are split up when The Tall Man kidnaps Mike.
I love the original "Phantasm". Despite its flaws, it stands out as a truly unique horror film that plays with perceptions of reality, different dimensions and nightmares. Not only the terror and dread of nightmares, but also the sense of strangeness which often accompanies the fear. Not to mention, "Phantasm" introduced us to one of the great horror themes of all time.
"Phantasm 2" is a lot less of a classic, but it's still a pretty cool b-horror film. It's got fun practical effects and, while it doesn't feel anything like the first film, it's a good one to watch with friends. It bridges the gap toward the more action oriented sequels to come, and it adds to the more straightforward lore of the series.
It's here, with "Phantasm 3" that director Don Coscarelli's epic horror series truly goes off the rails a bit. Suddenly the comedy comes in, and comes in hard. The tone feels off. Sure, It's not all bad, but it certainly isn't all good either. In fact, if you aren't already a fan of this series or of b-horror, you probably won't want to sit through this movie. It's really mediocre and unoriginal filmmaking, something you shouldn't expect from Dom Coscarelli.
Look, Phantasm films have some bad acting, some low budgets and some silly ideas that don't always work...but often overcome that for many reasons. The first and foremost being the series' lore, which seems to be purposefully incomprehensible. It's under no obligation to make sense to you, because nightmares and alternate dimensions aren't obligated to make sense to you.For instance, the first "Phantasm" is a dreamy, dark and ultimately creepy trip through unpredictable weirdness that leaves you questioning everything about its narrative...this third installment leaves that tone behind for the most part. Favoring instead a horny middle aged man, a little kid with a six shooter and bumbling zombies. It's fun enough if you like B-Horror nonsense (which I do), but for those of us who have been chasing the dragon of that first Phantasm film...this one is definitely the series low point.

All the references to The Timverse Joker (DCAU) of Jeremiah Valeska:
1.The name Xander Wilde is a reference to the episode Joker Wild.
2. Jeremiah, being a super outstanding engineer, remembers the Joker's engineering skills in the series.
3. The fact that Jeremiah uses an alias is reminiscent of how The Joker had multiple aliases before he was The Clown Prince of Crime.
4. The fact that Ecco is with Jeremiah when we first meet him is reminiscent of Harley first appearing with The Joker in the episode Joker's Favor.
5. The fact that Jeremiah's house is a maze is reminiscent of how the Joker created a kind of city seen in Mask of the Phantasm.
6. Jeremiah with glasses reminds him of the Joker in the Wild Cards special doing the same thing.
7. Jeremiah telling a story in which he makes himself look like a victim is similar to how The Joker does the same in the episode Mad Love.
8. Jeremiah, who has cameras for the entire maze of his and an alarm system of his, remembers how The Joker had the same things in Be a Clown.
9. Jeremiah's costume is a combination of all of the Joker's costumes but adding and removing a few things. (Orange, green, blue, and purple are present.)
10. Jeremiah with an exaggerated amount of schematics in his bunker, reminds The Joker in the same situation in the episode Mad Love.
11. Jeremiah's reactions to the danger of not meeting his objectives remind him of the Joker with the same reactions in The Joker's Favor.
12. Just like the Joker in the episode Joker's Favor Jeremiah asks the main hero, the Joker Batman, Jeremiah Gordon for help.
13. Both the Joker and Jeremiah do not feel an intrinsic fear of death, nor a natural value for their own life, in fact Jeremiah himself does not care about his physical state in Arkham or No Man's Land and was able to smile even with a submachine gun wounded by a gun to the shoulder. What they really fear is dying without achieving their goals.
14. Jeremiah meeting Bruce Wayne before his transformation, reminiscent of how The Joker met Bruce earlier in Mask of The Phanstasm, in both cases you saw part of who he would become in the future.
15. The fact that Jeremiah's batteries are charged by micro-seisms in the environment, reminds the Laughmeter that he got energy from him with mood swings, laughter.
16. Jeremiah's blue coat is reminiscent of the Joker's purple coat in the episode: The Man Who Killed Batman.
17. Jeremiah with the overextended smile is reminiscent of the traffic smile of the Joker from TAS.
18. Jeremiah pretending to be Jerome is reminiscent of how The Joker pretended to be the mayor in Harlequinade. (Referring to each playing contrasting personalities.)
19. Jeremiah uses a switchblade to attack Bruce, which is reminiscent of the Joker in the Mad Love and Injustice for All episodes.
20. Jeremiah wanting to kill Gordon reminds The Joker in the episode Joker's Favor doing the same thing: Grabbing the target, and wanting to kill him with a bomb.
21. Jeremiah is a classist just like The Joker. Calling Jerome's fans: pathetic club just as Joker called Terry: miserable punk.
22. Jeremiah wears a hat, like The Joker in Mask of the Phantasm, Joker's Favor, and The Man Who Killed Batman.
23. Jeremiah threatening the city with various scattered and hidden bombs is reminiscent of the Joker in the Wild Cards special.
24 . Jeremiah wears sunglasses, like The Joker in Harlequinade.
25. Jeremiah threatening to destroy the city reminds The Joker in Harlequinade doing the same.
26. Jeremiah justifies himself with absurd logic, it's a reference to how the Joker's schemes only make sense to him and no one else. More specifically a reference to Laughing Fish.
27. Jeremiah's serene and psychotic look (more precisely his expressionless eyes) is reminiscent of the Joker's look when he feels: Excitement, Joy, fear and worry. (The most notable moment of this look at the Joker is in the flashback of his first kill, as he is being chased by Batman.)
28. Jeremiah torturing Alfred, while showing him to Bruce on video, and then turning him into a Jokerized version (This is a fake Alfred) is a reference to what The Joker does to Tim Drake in Batman Beyond.
29. Jeremiah, before burning Jerome's followers, forms an abnormally wide smile, reminiscent of the Joker's common smile.
30. Jeremiah with plans reviewing his panan reminds once again of Mad Love.
31. The fact that he collaborates with Ra's Al Ghul is reminiscent of the World Finest special, where The Joker works with Lex Luthor, the similarity here is that in both cases it is the union of 2 prominent villains, but in this case, it is The Joker who hey help.
32. Jeremiah shooting Selina is a reference to I almost got'Im, where there is a situation of attack and revenge between Catwoman and
The joker.
33. Jeremiah blowing up the bridges is reminiscent of the Christmas With The Joker episode.
34. Jeremiah becomes more arrogant, manic and emotional in season 5, smiling more and more. This is reminiscent of the Joker's perpetual smile in TAS.
35. He shows more and more of her instability not so hidden from it. Now, he is more openly abusive and manipulative towards Ecco, even going so far as to roll his eyes with her, dance with her, and choke her for sheer pleasure.
36. Jeremiah survives Selina's stabbings, displaying the Joker's particular ability to survive under the worst circumstances.
37. The grin that Jeremiah flashes Alfred is the same wacky grin that the Joker did in Batman Beyond while he was running from Batman after he tortured Tim Drake.
38. Jeremiah breaks into Bruce's house, just like The Joker did in Batman Beyond
39. Jeremiah had Alfred missing for a long time, this is similar to when Timmverse's Joker disappeared Tim Drake, with no way to be found unless he invited Batman to play. Which was necessary in the case of Jeremiah in the same way.
40. Jeremiah's hair is styled in such a way that it resembles the hair of Timmverse's Joker in Justice League.
41. Jeremiah gets into Bruce's shoes by shamelessly mocking his family tragedy, The Joker does the same, the difference is that Jeremiah stains the memory of his parents' last day with his invasive actions.
42. Multilingual. Jeremiah speaks Spanish and French in this episode, a reference to how Timmverse's Joker does the same.
43. Jeremiah covered in bandages is a reference to the Joker in the episode Mad Love, where he is seen in that state.
44. Jeremiah blackmails a bald man with family into doing him a favor, then the man commits suicide. This is a reference to the episode Joker's Favor, where in that case, the man is saved.
45. Jeremiah makes his plan to kill all the people who attend the gala at Wayne Tower behind the scenes, this is another reference to Joker's Favor, where The Joker does the same, but in his case, the gala was in honor of Gordon.
46. Look. Jeremiah, due to his deformities, finally ends up having something like a perpetual scowl, that is, his facial figure is in such a way that he seems to want to kill something all the time. This is very much like Timmverse's Joker in the first version of him.

Headcanon: Rika’s Dad
Ichiro Yokoyama. also known as the Villian Akumu. even as a child it became more and more apparent that he had alot of issues
in early years The first impression one would have of Ichiro is his mild, polite and gentle mannered character, however, this surface image is quickly shattered as even his parents notice its really an act
Ichiro is in actuality a frighteningly cruel, calculating and cold person who will use and then throw away anyone and everyone around him.But he is not all that simple either, as he is quite the complicated character, being able to show rare displays of emotion such as regret and debatably even an odd form of affection.
his quirk is Phanstasm; able to cause viscious hallucinations, phase thru walls and even possess people.
Akumu is an eccentric and deranged man, who dutifully follows All For One's will. he has an almost obsessive interest in the mental and physical limits of of people going as far as to preforming both mental and physical torture on his victims.
after being detained by a pro hero and sitting in jail for some time for he was put in the ill fated “villian reformation program”. seeing this an chance to escape he used his charms and mannerisms to progress thru the program, becoming a model figure. this is wear he met, Ms Marvelous. for two long years he manipulates her into falling for him. he then goes on to leave the program, proving himself “reformed” with this new found freedom he makes a life with Ms. Marvelous, even having a child.
but this is merely all part of the facade. he lives a double life. below the home he shares with his family is a sub basement where he keeps his victims, experimenting on then. Eventually it is uncovered. he’s sent to prison but hints that it wasnt his only place, that he had many more areas, many more victims.
he will only give out a short list of a names under one condition. he is to see his daughter Rika, once a month. he’s interested in how her quirk will develop. filled with guilt, shame and wanting to make things right, Ms. Marvelous complys with this demand
he is currently in Tartarus
