Interior Design Ideas: Neutral Home

Hello, my friends! It’s wonderful to be back here with a new “Interior Design Ideas” post. Today, I will be featuring a beautiful home designed by the talented The LifeStyled Company (Recently featured on Home Bunch here: New Desert Home).

This home was certainly designed with family life in mind. Each and every room feels warm, inviting and unpretentious. As you browse this post, you will find a home that feels elegant with a neutral color scheme and ideas that should inspire and hopefully leave you feeling relaxed.

The Flames in Her Eyes, Chapter 2: Tabitha Moore

I sat at the dining table in the Pack House. Me, James, and Kai had arrived quite early. The breakfast was to begin at 10 a.m, the clock above the mantel still showed 9:50. I sat to the right of the head of the table. My Beta and Gamma sat next to me.

I knew why I was so impatient. Celine had yet to arrive. I couldn’t help but hope and wonder whether she’d show up. She said she would but… 9:51. There was still time. Maybe she’d be late.

I knew why I was so impatient. But I also didn’t know why. She’d been nothing but rude to me last night.

Last night…

I could’ve sworn I’d seen black veins covering my mate’s left foot before I left.

I glanced down the table. Several wolves had already been here when we came, talking amongst themselves. They didn’t pay us in mind.

The dining room was quite stunning. Two white chandeliers like overturned cakes hung from the ceiling-- one right over me, the other above the other table end. The three massive windows with velvet curtains the color of dark heather provided the true light, though. It seemed that Rosewood enjoyed putting anything fancy wherever possible.

It wasn’t like my home at all. I grew up in an environment made to be homey-styled.

9:55. Celine entered the room at last. With Nathaniel and Mara, his mate in tow.

My mate’s blonde hair was woven into two modest yet elegant braids hanging down her shoulders and hiding her ears from sight. She wore black leggings and a grey hoodie with a white heart painted seemingly with a brush in the middle. She carried a small white backpack. Her hair had soft blue silk ribbons braided into it.

Her limp was completely gone. As though it had never been.

She sat down at a random seat at the table, her companions sitting next to her.

Celine took something out of her bag. A journal and a pencil. No, a sketchbook. Giving me barely more than a glance as she started drawing something.

Alpha Willem and Beta Edmund entered five minutes later.

Everyone but my friends and I stood. And Celine. She didn’t even bother to look up at her father from her notebook when they passed by her. No one batted an eye at that, as though it were a common occurrence.

I almost expected her to put her legs on the table.

A smile found its way onto my mouth.

“She’s feisty, that one,” James said from beside me.

“And brave. Very brave,” Kai added.

I’d told everything last night upon returning to our shared rooms.

Several more people entered. One of them-- a female who looked a lot like Nathaniel, most likely his mother, and Edmund’s mate, Ellen.

Another person that caught my eye was Xavier. I’d met him yesterday. He was the Alpha’s son, my age. The male kept glancing at my mate with a strange face as he walked past.

I fought the growl that threatened to rumble out of me.

More people entered until the dining room was packed to the brim and stood beside their seats. The moment Willem and Edmund sat down, everyone did the same and began serving themselves. I realized that Celine had started eating when the Alpha and Beta had first entered the room. As though to mock them.

I resisted the urge to laugh.

The two males turned their attention to me.

“So,” Willem began. “Have you found anything entertaining to do here, Alpha Tyler?”

I looked at Celine again and found her gazing right back at me. An almost pleading look in her eyes. Like she didn’t want to say anything about the bond between us. How she could hear us this far away, and with all the commotion, I had no idea. Still, I ignored her.

“Yes, actually, I visited the ball yesterday and just so happened to stumble upon my mate,”

“And who’s the lucky girl?” Edmund asked, taking a sip of his coffee. An amused smile on his face.

Celine gritted her teeth, I smiled.

“Your daughter, Beta.”

Celine muttered something along the lines of, “Oh, for gods’ sakes.”

Her father choked on his coffee and said, bewildered, gesturing to my mate, “Her?”

“Yes.” was my only answer.

The room went utterly silent.

“Well, that’s just great news!” The male said with excitement, then addressing his daughter added, “Celine, once the Alpha’s visit here comes to an end, you shall join him and go to Silver Lake and become Luna.”

She snarled, slamming her hands on the table. The wolves closest to her flinched. “Over my dead body, would I do anything you tell me.”

Her father laughed. “I can easily arrange that.”

It was my turn to snarl. Nathaniel seemed to think so as well.

The male remembered who exactly was sitting with them and cleared his throat.

“It is an order, Daughter,” Edmund growled quietly. “Do you remember the last time you disobeyed the order I’d given you? What happened after that?”

Something in Celine’s eyes shuttered, and I suddenly wondered what her father was referring to when she said so quietly, with such vulnerability, it cracked something inside me, “Yes.”

“Does that mean you’ll go?”

“I don’t have another choice, do I?” Her voice shook slightly, as though holding back tears, then she stood and left.

Alpha Tyler was officially an asshole. He just couldn’t keep his mouth shut, could he? He had announced our bond for all to hear with such glee. Was he getting back at me for being rude to him yesterday? That’d make him petty. Maybe I should’ve just rejected him in the first place. Though, he’d have probably just denied my rejection.

There was only one place I could go now. Only one place I needed to go to now that my life had started to fall apart.

Tabitha Moore lived far enough away from our house to stay safe.

She took much pride in keeping her home decorated exquisitely. A two-story beige cottage with a pewter grey shingle roof and flowers growing on the walls. Perhaps the most homey-styled house in this whole gods-damned place.

I stepped on the porch, careful not to dirty the embroidered rug with my filthy shoes, and knocked.

It didn’t take long for my good friend to answer the door. She looked surprised to see me but let me inside. After I took off my shoes, she embraced me tightly, and I hugged right back.

“Lin! It’s so good to see you! I wasn’t expecting to see you so soon again; everything alright?”

“Yes, all is well.” I lied. “How are you?”

Despite being nearly fifty, the female looked good for her age. Her dark red hair up in a messy bun and tan face flushed like she was in the middle of making some sort of confectionery. Tabi was best known for her impeccably tasty desserts and other sweets.

She had a son, Jack. Perhaps the only guard in this gods-forsaken place who was pleasant to me. Except for Nate, Mara, and Ellen. Tyler didn’t count. (a) because he was an asshole. (b) he’s not from here and hadn’t been that nice to me anyway.

“Everything’s great. We were just making cookies.”

She led me to the kitchen, where two kids sat at a table playing with some cookie dough.

Zoe and Jon. My children.

Zoe turned her little head toward us. Upon seeing me, a toothy smile bloomed on her rosy cheeks as she screeched, “Mama!”

I scooped her into my arms and kissed her black curls while she laughed.

“Hey, baby,” I said. “I’ve missed you, my love. What are you making?”

She grinned again as I sat her on her stool. “Auntie Tabi and I are making choc-chip cookies! Here, I made you one.” She gave me a cookie that had a strange shape. At my raised eyebrow, she said, “‘Tis looks like a heart, be-cause I love you!”

Her words made tears well up in my eyes, and I had to blink them away. I put the cookie in the pocket of my hoodie. I’d need it as a comfort snack later.

Nearly three years old, Zoe still struggled with longer words, but she spoke well enough that I could understand her.

I sat down on a chair between her and Jon, and my son finally turned to me, smiled at me, and lifted his arms in a silent request.

I took him in my arms, kissing his cheeks and making him laugh.

“Mama,” he said quietly.

Unlike his older sister, Jon tended to be much more reserved, though I suspected it would change soon. He’d be turning two this March. Zoe’s birthday was in just six days.

I scooped Zoe into my arms again, shifting the two slightly to easier carry them.

“C’mon, kiddos. We need to talk.”

I sat them on the couch and kneeled before them. Tabitha continued her work in the kitchen, but I knew she was listening to every word.

Tabi took in Jon a month after his birth. Zoe had been smuggled in here without my father’s knowledge. If I’d let him know of Zoe’s existence, I knew he’d have killed a long time ago, even if she had only been about seven months old at the time.

“Do you know what a mate is?”

Both of them nodded eagerly. Zoe said, “Auntie Tabi and Uncle Colm are mates!”

“Yes, it’s a very special connection between two wolves. You see, I found my mate yesterday.”

Jon cheered. “Does… does that mean Mama’ll be happy?”

I smiled sadly at him. “Maybe, I’m not sure yet. But he’s an Alpha. Do you know what it is?”

Zoe nodded and said, “He rules a pack! It means you are Luna!”

Tears stung my eyes. I couldn’t help them as they rolled down my cheeks. Tabitha was giving me a sympathetic look. She knew where this was going.

“It also means that I’ll have to leave Rosewood. To leave you. I’ll have to go to my mate’s pack. To Silver Lake.”

Zoe frowned, then asked, “Can we come with you?”

More tears blurred my vision, and I wiped them away.

“No.”

There were tears in both of my children’s eyes now as I added, “I don’t know if it’s safe there. I don’t know if I can trust Tyler and his friends. But I promise you” --a sob wracked through me-- “if it is safe there, I’ll come here and take you with me. No matter the cost.”

With that, I stood, giving their heads lingering kisses, murmuring I love you so, so much to them, and turned to the door. Tabitha met me halfway there. She embraced me tightly and kissed my cheek.

“I wish you all the happiness in the world, Lin. You deserve it. You truly do.”

“Thank you, Tabi,” I choked out. “For everything.”

“Nonsense. You gave me the gift of raising those amazing kids, even if they’re not mine. Thank you.”

I nodded and strode out the door.

The wind dried my tears, leaving me sniffling.

Still rubbing at my eyes, I had the feeling of someone watching me.

Walking further away from the house, I spotted the last person I wanted to see right now.

My mate.

Great. Just fucking great.

Empty Nester Townhouse Design Ideas

Built by Timber Trails Development Company and designed by Julie Howard (previously featured here – a must-see post!, here, here, here & here), this townhouse was designed really for empty-nesters downsizing and wanting to maintain really high-end finishes. Here, the interior designer shares some insights:

“The Oxford at Timber Trails is a large ranch style townhome located in Western Springs, a suburb about 20 miles outside of Chicago. This townhouse was designed for someone who wants the ease of a smaller space without having to compromise on the quality and details of the finishes. The dramatic yet neutral color scheme made the perfect backdrop for multiple photo shoots and even a television commercial. The sophisticated and chic black, gold, and white elevate this dramatic home. Empty Nester Townhouse Design Ideas

The exterior of this beautiful townhouse features a grey brick. Brick is Sioux City Aztec White.

Dimensional shingle asphalt roof with metal roof details in Pewter Gray.

Kitchen

Because this townhouse has another unit attached, the kitchen of this home does not have a window in the prep area. We used floating shelves over the kitchen sink to create an open and airy feeling where one usually has a window. If we would have carried the cabinets all around the boxy shaped room it would have felt very closed up and boring. The shelves add so much interest and depth to the kitchen.

“Some people will actually use kitchen floating shelves to hold their utility items and grab at them like a chef at a restaurant. I however, like to save that stuff for closed cabinets and use the floating shelves as an area to style like a bookcase. Using frames leaning and stacked up against each other creates a really nice look along side your more traditional kitchen items”. – Julie Howard.

“The master bath was inspired by the black and white marble Greek key design. For years I would look at the 4”x12” decorative accent piece at The Tile Shop and wonder how to incorporate it into a spec house. When designing this townhouse, it started to take on a black, white, and gold color scheme and I thought the Greek key would be perfect. Adding a different mosaic tile to the center of the tile rug was bold, but I think it really brought the whole look together”. – Julie Howard

“The mudroom of this house is actually a hallway that connects the bedrooms, the garage, and the laundry room. There is not a closed off area where mess can accumulate. We needed to make sure the mudroom had more than just hooks and a bench. That would get very messy to walk past every day. We had custom built-ins made that hide all the mess. We painted it black so that it felt like a large piece of furniture in a white hallway. The board and batten on the walls gives an architectural feel but also helps to protect the walls in a high traffic area”. – Julie Howard

HOUSE TOUR: The 45th Annual Calvary Tour in Summit

Dramatic two story entry foyer by ML Interior Designs, black & white tumbled marble and reclaimed barn wood ceiling. All interior photography by Christian Garibaldi Photography.

A collaboration in support of a great cause, the Calvary House Tour, proudly sponsored by Lois Schneider Realtor will showcase five stunning Summit homes with distinctive interiors and lush gardens Thursday, May 4, 10-3pm offering visitors the opportunity to tour spaces by top design talents while raising funds for worthy outreach efforts of the Woman of Calvary Episcopal Church. Recipients that have received support from the House Tour include Apostles House and its associated Food Bank for homeless women and children, St. Philip’s Academy of Newark, Family Promise and The Good Shepherd Home for orphans in Cameroon, Africa.

In anticipation of the tour, we checked in with a few of the designers involved and were able to get a sneak peek of a very special custom home featured on the tour. Designed and built by Brandes Maselli Architects in Bernardsville, the house was inspired by 17th century french manors. Having previously built two homes, the owners had a clear vision for their dream project and when two older homes on a corner lot came on the market they knew the adjoining lots were perfect for their vision. According to architect Michael Brandes, “We chose to angle the house differently than the rest of the homes on the street so that it would appear the residence was built before the others on the street”. This also allowed the architect to create a large yard which was one of the main requests by the owners - a couple with three young children. Characteristic of french manors, the architect used stone, hand-hewn beams, copper, and hand split roof shingles.

Marisa Lafiosca of ML Interior Designs and Heidi Piron of Heidi Piron Design & Cabinetry completed the spectacular design team on this project. “The owners envisioned a country home with a European feel, sophisticated but not fussy or formal, and able to accommodate their young family,” said interior designer Lafiosca. “What makes this home special is that it’s not the predictable, traditional home.”

Designer Heidi Piron achieves an authentic period feel in the kitchen with the thoughtful combination of refined and rustic features, and a Francois & Co. pewter and limestone hood creates a stunning focal point. Several old world artistic finishes were used and the natural imperfections of the finishing details add an extra layer of detail, depth and legitimacy. The custom cabinetry reveals a delicate hand-brush stroke instead of a sprayed-on finish; a storage hutch was built with hand-hewn fumed oak cabinetry and the antique mirror was used on the doors; undulated walnut was used for the island countertop; and watery grey quartize stone countertops are complimented by hand-made backsplash tile. “I envisioned that you could see old-world artisans taking pride in creating this kitchen”, said Piron.

The vision is continued with the butler’s pantry where as a backdrop to a stunning hand casted bronze apron sink, Piron designed an arch with herringbone marble tile and walnut floating shelves. Mother of pearl hardware and brass edged shelves behind beveled glass complete the look.

Piron used reclaimed wood for the vanity and matching mirror to create the look of an antique table.

Lafiosca added period details - an arched stone entry with double sided fireplace and reclaimed barn wood for the ceiling and mantle - to create warmth and sophistication in the family room.

Lafiosca chose wide plank oak flooring in a herringbone pattern for the living and dining rooms.

The beautiful master bedroom suite is a peaceful oasis with its muted palette and luxurious details. A dressing room features floor to ceiling closets with beveled mirror fronts, large center island, glamorous vanity, and sparkling chandelier. Placed in a separate alcove, a soaking tub with nickel surround is the bathroom’s centerpiece. Lafiosca chose a grey and white floral grass cloth for the alcove which perfectly compliments the calcutta marble flooring and tile throughout.

Lafiosca created a showstopper recreation room with wine cellar, bar with tap, and billiard room. The designer enclosed the wine cellar with dramatic glass and metal doors; used reclaimed barn wood shiplap on the walls; and installed floor to ceiling metal racks to display the owner’s wine collection.

A driftwood finish was used on the bar cabinetry which is complimented with oil rubbed bronze accents, copper countertops and industrial lighting. Texture was added to the billiard room walls with a chunky grass cloth.

To tour this spectacular home and four others: tickets for the House Tour may be purchased in advance online for $40.00 here. The deadline for online purchases is noon on Friday, April 28th. Tickets may be purchased on the day of the tour in the driveway of Calvary Episcopal Church for $45.00.

Soothing Grey Paint Color Horizon 1478 by Benjamin Moore is a wonderful, soft gray paint color that I often recommend it to my own clients. This home was just built and it’s not furnished, which I actually prefer at times. This gives a real good sense of the millwork and the spaces. I hope this can help some of you that are planning on build a new home. Lighting: Currey & Co. Library Paint Color Paint color is Sea Pine AC-17 Benjamin Moore in satin/eggshell. Layout The foyer leads to a wide-open dining room, family room and kitchen area. Painted Brick Fireplace The family room features a painted brick fireplace. Interior Doors: BM “Kendall Charcoal” HC-166 (semi-gloss). White Brick Fireplace is painted in Decorators White by Benjamin Moore. Ceiling Paint Color: BM “Decorators White” (flat). Kitchen This kitchen is really pretty and very well-planned. I love the cabinetry layout. It uses this space wisely. Kitchen Cabinet Details: Timberlake cabinets *maple, painted. Top 5 Kitchen Island Ideas

Hi, everyone! How are you today? Do you remember the other day when I mentioned I had done a little decor shopping for my house? Well, I must confess that the shopping was bigger than I planned it to be and it really inspired me to do a huge cleaning around my house. I didn’t change any piece of furniture, just moved them around and I changed the decor – pillows, rugs and decorative items and, together with a REALLY deep cleaning, my house now feels new, fresh and completely renewed – without going through a real renovation. Interior Design Ideas: New Home Inspiration

Hello, my wonderful friends! How are you today? I am truly happy to start slowing down this week and start my kids’ back-to-school shopping. Doing it for three kids isn’t an easy task, but I will try to have some fun. Now, let’s focus on this new “Interior Design Ideas”.

Built by Timber Trails Development Company and with interiors by the talented Julie Howard (previously featured here – a must-see post!), here, here, here, here, here & here), this beautiful home is an east coast inspired home located in Western Springs, a suburb about 20 miles outside of Chicago. The home’s exterior commands attention with it’s stately tower topped with X details on the windows. Inside the tower is a three story floating staircase that has a marvelous view of the chandelier above. When you enter the front door, a long hallway lined with mercury glass lanterns leads you to the open concept kitchen and family room where a built-in banquette steals the show because of its leaded glass windows.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Farmhouse Interiors

I might be wrong, but I am starting to think that you can’t be a minimalist if you really like the farmhouse style. To truly achieve this welcoming look, you will want to layer your home with plenty of textures and fill each every room with character, personality and your special touch. This is what really makes the farmhouse style so appealing to many – the fact that you can stamp your own personality and create a home that reflects who you are and how you like to live.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Farmhouse Interiors

“We are James and Kaycie Chiampi we have been married for 15 years and have 5 kids. We built our home about 4 years ago when we moved from our home town of Newport Beach CA to Salt Lake City UT.

I wanted to take our builder grade home and turn it into more of a custom home and with my background in interior design and my husband being a self taught woodworker it was a project we were excited to tackle!”

In our kitchen we have custom white kitchen cabinets with a medium glaze over the top to give them a more distressed look.

DIY Kitchen Island

We did a DIY project and wrapped our kitchen island with reclaimed wood.

The flooring we have throughout the first floor is wood laminate flooring by Mohawk and the color is nutmeg chestnut.

Sunroom

Off our kitchen we add the sunroom with our builder and this is one of the most used rooms. It’s where we eat all our meals and we love all the natural light from the windows this room gives to the home!

Lighting: Capital Lighting Nira 44 Inch 6 Light Chandelier.

Dining Room

Dining room table was built by the homeowner’s husband.

Chandelier is Troy Lighting.

Paint Color

All the walls in our home except the bedrooms are Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.

We did a fun project and built a DIY wood beam in the space between the kitchen and living room to define each space wile still keeping with the flow of our open floor plan. It’s one of my favorite projects and I have a tutorial on my blog.

Decor

The sofas are RC Willey. Other Beautiful Sofas/Sectionals: here (Best seller!), here, here, here & here (recommended!).

White grommet top curtains from IKEA.

Rugs: Metallic Cowhide Rug & Sisal Rug – similar.

Fireplace

The living room also has one of my favorite features and that’s our floor to ceiling stone fireplace. When we built our home the builder put in our fireplace but stopped the stone at the mantle. I always felt it was incomplete so my husband and I continued the stone to the ceiling and now it’s the focal point of the room! We also added a shiplap wall behind our tv.

Playhouse Bunkbed

In my youngest son’s room we built him a playhouse bed and it’s so fun!! He helped us pick out what he wanted it to look like and we built it.

Paint Color

The back wall is painted Dover Grey by Olympic and the other walls are Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.

Twin Boys Bedroom Design

In my twins room we put up board and batten at 5’ tall all around the room and painted the top portion of the wall Icy Avalanche by Valspar. Their beds my husband and I built out of reclaimed wood.

Ceiling Fan: Hunter Fan.

Grid Board and Batten & Peonies

In my younger daughter’s room we did a fun wood wall behind her bed making squares out of strips of MDF then we painted it Icy Avalanche by Valspar. The rest of her room is painted Silver Fox by Benjamin Moore. We also added Peonies wall decals around her window to bring in that feminine touch and add some pops of pink.

Ceiling Fan: Hunter Ronan 52 in. LED Indoor Fresh White Ceiling Fan.

Draperies: here & here – similar.

Teen Bedroom

Downstairs we have our oldest daughters room and it is paint Silver Fox by Benjamin Moore. The headboard we built as well from reclaimed wood. We then made some brackets out of pipe and attached them to the headboard to hold the cage lights hanging on each side.

Master Bedroom

In the master we did a shiplap wall behind the bed.

Paint Color

The rest of the walls Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.

Master Bathroom

In the master bathroom we painted the walls Dover Grey by Olympic. Our cabinets and countertops in the bathroom are the same as in our kitchen.

Faucets: Delta.

Backyard

Off the sliding doors that lead to our backyard we built a redwood deck. We created a fun dining area on here where we love to eat dinner in the summer time!

Gazebo

In our backyard we have created a few fun areas. The first one is our sitting area under our metal gazebo.

“The Maxwell” is a home that we designed as an infill in a neighborhood called Altadore in Calgary, Alberta. Top 5 Kitchen Island Ideas

Hi, everyone! How are you today? Do you remember the other day when I mentioned I had done a little decor shopping for my house? Well, I must confess that the shopping was bigger than I planned it to be and it really inspired me to do a huge spring cleaning around my house. I didn’t change any piece of furniture, just moved them around and I changed the decor – pillows, rugs and decorative items and, together with a REALLY deep cleaning, my house now feels new, fresh and completely renewed – without going through a real renovation. I look around and I’m in love with my home and that’s a wonderful feeling. Now, don’t ask about my back… I can barely move today! 🙂

Hi, everyone! How are you today? Do you remember the other day when I mentioned I had done a little decor shopping for my house?
