Find Best PET CT Scan Centre in Delhi NCR- HOD
One of modern medicine's most effective and helpful imaging technology, PET/CT scan, is a combination of a PET scan and a CT scan.
Positron emission tomography, also known as PET scan, is a nuclear medicine imaging scan. Wherein positrons are emitted into the human body with the help of a tracer drug, or radioactive drug to determine any abnormality inside the body. The radioactive tracer, when injected, emits a variety of positrons, providing a 3D image of the processes occurring inside the body. Computed tomography, also known as CT scan, uses a computer, a series of X-rays, and sometimes a contrast material to create 3 Dimensional images of the organs inside the body.
Doctors may order a PET/CT to create a unique image fusion of nuclear medicine and CT images. This image fusion helps doctors to arrive at a patient's prognosis and plan treatment. These combined scans are helpful to diagnose any abnormal metabolic activity and provide more precise information aiding accurate diagnosis.
This article will give a detailed insight into the working of these scans. It will also provide information on the best PET CT scan centre in Delhi NCR.
Common Uses
Doctors recommend this scan to:
Diagnose cancer
Determine the spread of cancer in the body
Checking cancer re-occurrence after treatment
Prognosis evaluation
Planning radiotherapy treatment
Evaluating brain abnormalities
Preparation before the Scan
Most scans require fasting for around 4 to 6 hours.
Women must inform their doctor or technologist if they are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Tell your radiologist about allergies, recent sicknesses, medications, or medical conditions.
Before entering the machine, remove metal items like jewellery, hairpins, watches, wigs, dentures, etc.
Do not exercise aggressively at least 24 hours before the scan.
Change into a hospital gown.
Types
18-FDG PET CT Scan (Whole-body PET CT scan)
PSMA PET CT Scan (Prostate Cancer)
DOTA PET CT Scan (Nero Endocrine Tumors)
Cardiac PET CT (Cardiac Viability)
FDG PET CT with triple-phase CT (Abdomen)
How does the scan work?
Nuclear medicine uses radiotracers that doctor injects into the blood. It may also be swallowed or inhaled as a gas. The radiotracer gathers in the area under evaluation, where it emits gamma rays. Special cameras determine this energy and, with a computer's help, create detailed pictures of the organs and tissues inside.
During and after the scan
The doctor injects radioactive liquid through a cannula about an hour before the scan. The patient must limit their body movement and avoid any physical activity to let the radiotracer spread through the body.
The machine looks like a large cylindrical-shaped tube with both ends open. The technician makes the patient lie on the sliding table comfortably. One should try to stay calm and still during the scan. The machine takes pictures as the tables move back and forth through it. One may resume their normal activities after the examination.
Possible risks
Since the usage of the radioactive dose is minimal, there are no possible risks. Also, the patient usually does not suffer from any abnormality but only weakness due to fasting.
How much does the scan cost?
There are several PET CT Scan centres in Delhi NCR where you can book this scan. The cost generally depends on which part of the body is being scanned. Therefore, the Whole Body PET CT Scan costs vary basis the location and the centre. Check out cardiac PET CT scan prices in Faridabad.
