Elliot Scott. The narrow guage diesel. He's a 0-6-0 drewry shunter (I think). He's a simple guy, hardworking, silly, confident in himself. His life up untill sodor was simple. Elliot Scott can be a bit temperamental, and is prone to clumsiness thanks to his head being in the clouds, he's always looking to impress others. He's also Scottish.

Oh and he's taken by the way. By who?

These two have been in my brain and won't leave. Oh and the scar on Peter Sam's head is from when his funnel fell off.
There two are the sweethearts though. Cutest couple of the narrow guage railway.

Writelist
I write: AFAB Characters & AMAB Characters (genderfluid, cis male, ftm, non-binary, and any masc-aligned gender)
Anybody 18+ is allowed to read and interact with my work as long as you're respectful and don't ask me to write female reader
DNI: Basic DNI criteria, if you support or write fics about real people
The more specific the request, the better. Don't be afraid to go into alarming detail.
Please don't copy and paste your request (in another ask or in my comment sections) if I don't respond to it. I won't answer a request until I've finished it so please be patient
If you want a part two, you're more likely to get one if you specify what you want in it. Most of the time I don't have any ideas if I planned on it being a oneshot
What I will NOT write:
Female Reader, Female Character, Scat, Incest (Pseudo-Incest is Fine), Age Play, Misgendering, Transphobia
Things You Can Request:
- Fics, Thirsts, Shorts, Headcanons, Drafts
- For shorts you can just give me a character (up to 4 per post) and a prompt or trope or whatever and I'll write a small little piece about it
Bottom Reader
tell me if you're okay with afab language or not if asking for ftm reader. i wont use it by default
Characters I'll write for bottom reader: Zhongli, Ajax, Itto, Ayato, Diluc, Diavolo, William Afton, Enji Todoroki, Scott Howl, Hopper, Joel Miller, Michael Myers, Ghostface (Danny, Billy),

Plan B: Who steps up if a key player goes down?
EVERY team has their irreplaceable players. But if injury strikes, and the magnets on the whiteboard need to be shifted around, does your team have a plan B?
Our writers name the three most important cogs in each team’s wheel, and how your club would cover their loss – from a straight swap of personnel to some tactical wizardry from the coach.
Rory Sloane: Sloane is one of the Brownlow Medal favourites, so his loss would be keenly felt. It certainly was when North Melbourne’s Sam Gibson and Demon Bernie Vince quelled his influence in rounds seven and eight. But not every club has a 307-game midfield bull like Scott Thompson desperate for promotion.
Taylor Walker: The Crows’ captain is a beast up forward and an inspirational leader, but they are one club that could afford to be without him for an extended time. The fact Adelaide had the luxury of dropping Josh Jenkins shows the embarrassment of riches it boasts inside 50. Versatile tall Andy Otten has already proven capable of stepping in while Jenkins was out earlier in the year, while Tom Lynch could play closer to goal and Eddie Betts is always happy to accept more passes.
Sam Jacobs: The ruck is rarely a concern for Don Pyke’s men when the big ‘Sauce’ is in the line-up. And that’s more often than not, with Jacobs playing at least 19 games in his six full seasons at the Crows. But if the ex-Blue was to suffer an injury, there would have to be a decision made. Does Andy Otten or Kyle Hartigan become the top option in Jacobs’ absence, or do they turn to two-gamer Reilly O’Brien, who has impressed in the SANFL? – Marc McGowan
Harris Andrews: It’s just his third season, but the young Queenslander has made the full-back spot his own. Jack Frost appears an obvious choice to replace him, but putting the ultimate defensive responsibility on the shoulders of young swingman Dan McStay might be a better option long-term.
Dayne Beams: The skipper has already missed two matches with a quad problem, and is a difficult man to cover with his mix of inside and outside football. Rhys Mathieson could make the step from NEAFL if Chris Fagan wanted a contested ball winner. The Lions could also insert Daniel Rich to a more central role and cover his half-back position with Tom Cutler.
Stefan Martin: The Lions are thin in the ruck, but in Archie Smith they have a good backup if Martin has to miss matches. Smith played three games in 2016, and while his work around the ground is improving, he is excellent around stoppages and could comfortably hold his own as the main man. – Michael Whiting

Sam Docherty: The ex-Lion is in All Australian form and marshals a well-organised defence. With Sam Rowe gone for the season, Docherty’s presence is vital and the Blues would be forced into a restructure if they lost him. When Irishman Ciaran Byrne returns from a long-term knee injury, he could provide some of the daring run that Docherty provides and maybe Lachie Plowman could step up to be the ‘quarterback’.
Matthew Kreuzer: The ruckman has been in the most consistent vein of form in his career, providing plenty of grunt and linking up well in the midfield. Andrew Phillips, who is on the comeback trail from a foot injury sustained during the pre-season, looms as the logical replacement if the former No.1 draft pick went down, but the Blues would miss the big man dearly.
Marc Murphy: The skipper has been in scintillating touch this season and you only have to go back to last season to see how the Blues coped without him – not very well. Covering him would take a big effort from the midfield, with more responsibility loaded on to the broad shoulders of Patrick Cripps, Bryce Gibbs and Ed Curnow, with help from some of the club’s talented youngsters. – Howard Kotton
Jamie Elliott: The little dynamo hadn’t played since 2015 but for the past five weeks he has been the most likely Magpie in attack. Elliott leads the Pies’ goalkicking with an efficient 13.5 – the next best in this period has been Darcy Moore’s 7.5 – and creates opportunities with his speed, work ethic, marking ability and defensive actions. Without him, the Pies would need greater contributions from the likes of Alex Fasolo and Jordan De Goey, and midfielders such as Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom could spend more time in the front half. Another high-flyer in Jeremy Howe could also be thrown forward.
Brodie Grundy: The durable, ultra-competitive young ruckman hasn’t missed a game since being overlooked for last year’s season opener, and has since averaged 18 possessions (plenty for a ruckman), four clearances and 30 hit-outs. In the event of Grundy being sidelined, which would leave a huge hole in the Pies’ line-up, raw forward/ruckman Mason Cox would need to shoulder most of the responsibility with support from the likes of young forward Darcy Moore and perhaps even Lachie Keeffe.
Jeremy Howe: The former Demon’s importance has only heightened since Ben Reid’s latest soft-tissue injury, and his anticipation, contested marking, composure and kicking skills on either side would be difficult to replace. However young, injury-prone defender Matt Scharenberg has found a rich vein of form in the VFL and could be called upon to fill the void. Tom Langdon, also returning from injury, has shown in the past that he’s a more than capable intercept player. Or maybe Tyson Goldsack could be released to play a more offensive role. – Ben Collins
Ex-Demon Jeremy Howe has been a standout for the Pies in defence. Picture: AFL Photos
Michael Hurley: The Bombers would be in strife if they lost Hurley, but they could at least move gun swingman Cale Hooker from his forward post to hold down the defence with confidence. Injured duo Patrick Ambrose and Mitch Brown will also be back in the next few weeks which provides the club with some defensive depth.
Joe Daniher: The Essendon spearhead is probably the club’s most irreplaceable player. In the case he was unavailable the Bombers would probably play with just two key forwards – James Stewart and Cale Hooker. But they could also change around their structure and bring in ruckmen Tom Bellchambers (six goals in the VFL last weekend) and Shaun McKernan, who have both proved they can take a grab near goal.
Zach Merrett: In this case the Bombers’ first move would probably be to shift Darcy Parish into a more prominent midfield role. As for Merrett’s possible replacements from outside the Essendon senior side, youngster Kobe Mutch is an accumulating midfielder who would do the same at the next level, while David Myers and Andy McGrath could also spend some more time up the ground. Kyle Langford and Craig Bird are other midfield options out of the side currently. – Callum Twomey
Nat Fyfe: Fremantle’s band of inside midfielders are as good as any in the competition but, as we saw last season, losing their main man would be a hammer blow. Fyfe not only attracts the opposition’s attention, he stands up in big moments where the contest is fiercest. If he went down again, Ross Lyon’s ability to use onballers David Mundy and Lachie Neale up forward – a tactic that has reaped rewards this year – would be severely compromised.
Aaron Sandilands: There is no more important player to the Dockers than the 211cm giant, whose unrivalled tap work kickstarts Freo’s engine room. Ruck depth is not a strength for the Dockers either. Jon Griffin doesn’t have the same presence, but would be the obvious fall-back option ahead of raw draftee Sean Darcy, and Freo’s tactics at centre bounces in particular would have to become more defensive.
Michael Walters: Few players boast Walters’ X-factor. The 26-year-old has been spending more time in the midfield but is most valuable in attack – as he proved with a game-turning three-goal third quarter against Carlton – and Freo has no obvious replacement with Hayden Ballantyne sidelined. Hayden Crozier and Brady Grey are competing at ground level, but one of the Hill brothers – Stephen or Bradley – would be needed to offer extra zip up forward if Walters was sidelined. – Travis King
Tom Hawkins: Hawkins is crucial to the Cats’ fortunes as their forward-line revolves around the big man who has kicked 27 goals in nine games this season. The Cats could make Harry Taylor their key forward and move Aaron Black into the second tall forward role in his absence or include Rhys Stanley who they fancy as a forward/ruckman. Wylie Buzza has been in good form in the reserves and could get a chance inside 50 this season but he is a developing player.
Tom Lonergan: Although Lonergan is in the twilight of his career he is so reliable that any replacement will be a step down in the short term. Ryan Gardner is the key defender being groomed to take over from Lonergan in the key defensive post however he remains a work in progress. The Cats could switch Taylor back into defence and play Black or Stanley forward.
Patrick Dangerfield: Obviously losing either Dangerfield or Joel Selwood for a long period would put a serious dent in the Cats’ premiership chances but a short-term absence would give other midfielders the chance to step up. Steven Motlop has been playing as a forward-mid but it would give him the chance to play as a full-time midfielder, breaking the lines and creating opportunities for key forwards. The other option, of course, would be to pray. – Peter Ryan
Gary Ablett: Almost since their inception, the ‘no Ablett, no Suns’ saying has rung true, but they finally have some depth to cover if the champion midfielder is missing. Jack Martin would move into a more permanent midfield role, while Jesse Lonergan could be given a prolonged opportunity once overcoming his own injuries.
Tom Lynch: With Sam Day already injured, Lynch is the man the Suns can least afford to lose. Jarrad Grant is the only senior-listed ‘tall’ forward playing NEAFL that could step in, but surrounding Peter Wright with more mobility could appeal, with Martin a leading forward, and draftee Ben Ainsworth to come back into the team. Switching Steven May forward would be a last resort.
Steven May: Gold Coast has already had a look at this scenario, with May missing two weeks with a hamstring problem. They have precious few options in this part of the ground, but young Jack Leslie is readymade to step into a key defensive post. – Michael Whiting
Young defender Jack Leslie has been used as a fallback option for the Suns. Picture: AFL Photos
Stephen Coniglio: The vice-captain is the man Leon Cameron turns to when he needs someone to run with the opposition’s best midfielder, so to have him for just two games this year has been a blow. Coniglio’s hardness at stoppage situations makes life extremely tough for his opponent. Ryan Griffen stepped up in his absence before he went down with a long-term ankle injury of his own.
Phil Davis: His fellow co-captain Callan Ward told AFL.com.au earlier this year that Davis was the club’s most important player – he’s that vital as the anchor of the GWS backline. Davis takes the opposition’s best tall forward each week and if they were to lose him, like they have in previous seasons, it places more pressure on teammates Adam Tomlinson and Aidan Corr.
Shane Mumford: The aggressive ruckman has so much presence on the field that he’s just about irreplaceable for the Giants. Rory Lobb does a great job giving Mumford a chop-out but isn’t quite No.1 ruck ready yet, and that would also rob the forward line of a reliable tall target. The Giants’ freefall after Mumford went down in 2015 was no coincidence. – Adam Curley
Tom Mitchell: Nine games into his first season with the Hawks and Mitchell is already emerging as one of the club’s most important players because he has been able to address a glaring weakness of the side – winning contested ball. Liam Shiels and Will Langford are OK at the contest, but Hawk fans are looking forward to the debut of rookie-listed midfielder James Cousins, who has been a contested beast in the VFL this year.
Shaun Burgoyne: He’s 34, played 92 consecutive games and remains Hawthorn’s ‘break glass in case of emergency player’. There is nobody like him although Ryan Burton has rarely put a foot wrong since becoming a regular senior player and if he develops he should, like Burgoyne, be able to fit seamlessly anywhere around the ground.
James Frawley: Was probably not playing as well this year as in seasons past, but his absence for the next two months because of a toe injury will really hurt Hawthorn. Plan B is Kaiden Brand, but he didn’t play either last weekend because he was ill. Kurt Heatherley was Plan C and he went OK against the Pies, but he still has plenty of development to come. – Ashley Browne
Max Gawn: Melbourne is already onto plans B and C after it lost the star ruckman to a hamstring injury in round three. Losing Gawn had the potential to be a disaster, but at least Jake Spencer was there in reserve. That was until the back-up big man suffered a serious shoulder injury against Richmond in round five. Now, the Demons have been forced to rely on the under-sized Cameron Pedersen, along with Jack Watts and Tom McDonald, to compete in the ruck. The Demons have been smashed in hit-outs (-143) over the past month, but have offset that loss by winning the clearances (+32). However, Gawn’s slated return in round 12 cannot come quick enough.
Jesse Hogan: The Demons have only had the power forward available for four games this season and it is unclear when he will be able to return to the field after being diagnosed with testicular cancer. Hogan’s interrupted year has forced the Demons to be creative with their forward structure, with second-year forward Sam Weideman and first-year rookie Tim Smith both having opportunities to play as the tall forward alongside Jack Watts. Tom McDonald has also spent time down there as a key target.
Neville Jetta: The small defender has become an integral part of the Demons’ line-up, given his ability to play as a lock-down defender on some of the AFL’s most damaging small forwards. Jetta has also improved the offensive side of his game immensely, which has made him a more valuable asset. Should Jetta be unavailable for selection at any point this year, especially with Colin Garland gone for the year with a knee injury, the Dees would look to push Tom Bugg back into defence or perhaps look to Jake Melksham to fill that spot. – Ben Guthrie
Former Giant Tom Bugg flies high for a mark. Picture: AFL Photos
Ben Cunnington: There is no-one better in the contest at the Roos than the No.5 pick from the 2009 draft, but he is one player they could cover – although not at the same level – in the short term. Jack Ziebell and Trent Dumont would carry a heavier load and former skipper Andrew Swallow’s time in the middle would spike significantly.
Robbie Tarrant: Tarrant is largely irreplaceable at North, given his ability to lock down on the best key forwards, take intercept marks and provide defensive rebound. If the reigning club best and fairest was to go down for a period of time, the one positive is it may give Sam Durdin or even the improving Daniel Nielson the extended run in the senior team they are finding hard to obtain. Another option in this case is for the Roos to go down Carlton’s path in always playing an extra defender and generally not venturing too far down the ground as a group as a protective course of action.
Ben Brown: The Tasmanian forward is arguably already North’s No.1 player in attack – and certainly its most reliable – with Jarrad Waite getting on in years and still unable to regularly stay on the field. There are key forward prospects for down the track, such as Ben McKay and Nick Larkey, but the only man waiting in the wings with genuine readiness is Majak Daw, who, like Waite, has proven frail and inconsistent. – Marc McGowan
Robbie Gray: Replacing a midfielder/forward of Gray’s prowess is nearly impossible. Chad Wingard has already increased his midfield time this season but would likely be thrown in there even a little more if Gray was out, while up forward someone like Karl Amon could feature more prominently. Angus Monfries and Jake Neade are others who could be used in attack if the Power wanted to go that way.
Charlie Dixon: The Power brought in mature-ager Brett Eddy last year knowing he could make an immediate impact, and if Dixon was unavailable, Eddy could provide some handy relief near goal. Eddy has played three games this season for three goals but, at 27, has the physical maturity to step into the senior side with confidence.
Paddy Ryder: Ryder rucks best when he goes solo, which has meant Matthew Lobbe has been out of the side all of this season. But at least the Power have some back-up there if Ryder was unavailable. Peter Ladhams was picked in last year’s NAB AFL Rookie Draft but won’t be ready just yet to take on a ruck role at senior level. – Callum Twomey
Dustin Martin: Losing the 2016 club champion would be a nightmare for the match committee, which would need to find solutions both in the midfield and forward 50. Martin’s absence would likely see Josh Caddy thrown more opportunities in the centre square, where Martin leads the club for centre clearances. Resting Martin forward and bombing the ball long to him when he is one-out has been a key tactic. The Tigers would have to use their speedy small forwards in this isolated role.
Alex Rance: The ability of David Astbury to play on the most dangerous tall forward has freed Rance up in 2017, and his absence would force the Tigers to restructure significantly in defence. Dylan Grimes (193cm) would be forced to play taller and the Tigers would need to replace Rance’s rebound (he ranks No.2 at the club with 4.1 rebound 50s a game). An opportunity could be created for Oleg Markov, who played as a rebounding defender in the last eight games of 2016.
Jack Riewoldt: The key forward is arguably the most difficult player to replace in 2017, given the Tigers’ lack of depth in this position. With Ben Griffiths (concussion) sidelined, the Tigers would need to play one of Todd Elton and Mabior Chol as a key target and then back their smaller brigade. Sam Lloyd and Ben Lennon would likely receive more opportunities as marking players, while the Tigers’ attacking style of play would ramp up even more. Playing patient football would be impossible. – Nathan Schmook
Mabior Chol is a key tall the Tigers could call upon. Picture: AFL Photos
Jake Carlisle: Part of the reason St Kilda’s backline has performed relatively well this season is the return of the key defender. Dylan Roberton is playing excellent footy but the inclusions of Carlisle and Nathan Brown have allowed the ex-Docker to focus more on intercepting and rebounding. If Carlisle was forced to miss games, Sam Gilbert could be used to man the opposition’s second tall in a makeshift role. That option would give Alan Richardson a slightly more mobile defensive unit.
Nick Riewoldt: The Saints champion’s form has tailed off over the last three weeks but his work early in the season was proof enough he remains an important player, whether it be as a focal target in attack or as a link player on a wing who offers brilliant field kicking. Josh Bruce could return to the senior side to offer another forward option while Daniel McKenzie could use his impressive tank on a wing, albeit without the same foot skills as the former captain.
Jack Steven: Having won three of the club’s last four club championships is an indication Steven is the best player at the club, but his burst from stoppages also provides a point of difference from Seb Ross, Jack Steele, Koby Stevens and Luke Dunstan. Jade Gresham and Darren Minchington could be used in the midfield more to offer line-breaking pace, while Mav Weller has the aggression and speed to play that role. – Dinny Navaratnam
Lance Franklin: The triple-Coleman medallist is one of the League’s best forwards, and his presence doesn’t just make the opposition nervous, it helps his teammates enormously. When Franklin is on the field, teams can often assign a couple of players to try keep him under control, but when he’s not, the opposition’s best defender goes to Sam Reid or Kurt Tippett, and that causes even more problems for the Swans.
Heath Grundy: As the pillar of strength down back, Grundy gives the Swans an ultra-reliable leader who is very rarely beaten one on one, and provides plenty of direction for teammates. His loss would leave the team seriously undersized, and force the likes of Dane Rampe, Aliir Aliir and Harry Marsh to fight well out of their weight division.
Josh Kennedy: Since arriving in Sydney from Hawthorn, the skipper has played 23+ games in each of the last seven seasons, and has proven himself to be the clearance and contested ball king. Kennedy’s absence would be felt significantly, but Luke Parker, Dan Hannebery, Isaac Heeney and George Hewett have the capacity to at least share his workload if necessary. – Adam Curley
Harry Marsh may be needed if experienced Swan Heath Grundy went down. Picture: AFL Photos
Josh Kennedy: With Nic Naitanui coming back from a knee reconstruction, there’s no disputing Kennedy is the Eagles’ most important player and the season could be derailed if the dual Coleman medallist went down. West Coast has options to throw deep forward – headlined by Drew Petrie, Nathan Vardy and Jeremy McGovern – but none could replace the star spearhead.
Jeremy McGovern: The Eagles have plenty of tall backmen, with former club champion Eric Mackenzie and Will Schofield stuck in the WAFL, but McGovern’s reading of the play and intercept marking is irreplaceable. Hearts are in mouths every time the 25-year-old comes off the ground sore.
Luke Shuey: Midfield pace is in short supply and losing the reigning club champion would cripple the Eagles’ ability to break away from stoppages. Few other Eagles can win contested ball and burst clear of congestion, although Elliot Yeo is one who would most likely be called on for more midfield time if Shuey was out of the side. – Travis King
Marcus Bontempelli: While the Dogs have been able to cover a host of players struck down by injury this season, losing the Bont would deny the premiers their best kick and most influential player. But they do have an eager replacement at the ready, with third-year midfielder Lukas Webb a beautiful kick who is just as competent in contested ball. He just needs more time in the midfield to show his vast improvement.
Tom Boyd: Without recapturing the form that saw him one of the best on Grand Final day, the 21-year-old has been a solid contributor in the ruck in the absence of Jordan Roughead. His versatility gives Luke Beveridge great flexibility, as Boyd is also getting a lot more dangerous up forward. But if he was to succumb to injury, impressive draftee Tim English looks ready to fill the void. In a few VFL games, the 19-year-old West Australian has displayed deft ruck work, contested marking and sound foot skills for a player of 205cm.
Robert Murphy: If the skipper succumbed to another long-term injury, the Dogs would desperately be seeking someone to provide the same dash and dare the veteran playmaker provides in spades. The match committee could do worse than elevate speedster Brad Lynch off the rookie list. While the West Australian is a week away from returning from a hamstring complaint, he’s displayed breakaway speed, good decision-making and elite foot skills in his two seasons at Whitten Oval. – Ryan Davidson

Entry Lists Released for U.S. Short Track Nationals at Bristol
The expected entry lists for Bristol Motor Speedway’s U.S. Short Track Nationals have been released.  To no one’s surprise the lists are massive, with over 500 drivers ready to attack the historic facility May 19-21.
The divisions involved are Super Late Models (co-sanctioned by CRA, CARS, and the Southern Super Series), Pro Late Models (sanctioned by CRA), Late Model Stocks (sanctioned by CARS), Modifieds (sanctioned by the National Short Track Racing Alliance), Street Stocks (sanctioned by CRA), and Sport Compacts (sanctioned by Vores Cup)
Just a few weeks ago Bristol requested the participating sanctioning bodies limit each division to a certain number of entrants.  The maximum number set by the Speedway are: 80 Super Late Models, 80 Pro/Crate Late Models, 60 Late Model Stocks, 80 Modifieds, 110 Street Stocks, and 110 Compacts.  The numbers have been exceeded in all but two divisions.
Bristol is now asking those who may not compete to contact their corresponding sanctioning bodies.

Final ship post for now I've decided. I want to work on other things. I've got more ships though ;). This one shows of my ocs in relationships
Tumblr media
The sweetest. And first narrow guage pairing. If you already know Elliott Scott you know this ship.
- the first time they met, the narrow guages, including Peter sam, were acting distrustful around diesels because of Gorodon. This made things tense between them. This is something they now joke about.
- they first got together a long time after they were infected, as both were too nervous to make the first move. Up until the both of them confessed at once.
- Elliot Scott calls Peter sam Sammy, and Peter Sam calls Elliott Scott Scotty.
- this is more about the human au, but before ps met es he thought no one would find him attractive. Meanwhile es thinks ps is the most genuinely attractive person/beast ever.
- the two like to explore the mountains and forests of the narrow guage line as dates.
Tumblr media
Another ship I've already shown off. These two are a something that in my eyes was inevitable as soon as I had a bus oc.
- boba came to sodor as a private bus, so bertie assumed she would be snooty and rude, but of course she isn't. It was a simple, mutual crush after that
- boba likes watching bertie race others and listening to him talk. Bertie like giving Boba little gifts and snuggling up to her at night.
- since boba is mute, she doesn't really have any nicknames for bertie. But he calls her bobo and babe.
- bertie is very protective of Boba, especially when someone is demanding she speak. While Boba can defend herself, she is grateful for someone else to act as her voice.
- when Boba was pregnant with Brandon, before they knew mind, bertie wondered how hard it was to be pregnant, so inspired by a certain red rocket, impregnated himself. This lead to bernie.
Tumblr media
The final official tug x engine paring (for now). Gordon is a character who has a lot of ships, but oc x cannon is something I can't resist.
- Gordon, despite his pride, is a doting and attentive partner. Stardust is reassuring, and one to tolerate his rants.
- their relationship began when stardust began to admire Gordon from afar. When they did get together, it took a while before anyone but stardusts siblings were aware.
- he doesn't use pet names, beyond caller her my star, she calls him shooting star and love.
- Gordon refuses to learn to swim. Even if many other engines, including the ones that are in relationships with the tugs, he won't learn. Stardust is the only one who is fully aware of Gordon's fear on the matter.
- they love gossiping and complaining about others. Gordon also enjoys making dust laugh, since she rarely does so around others.

Three burning questions
WITH the JLT Community Series set to kick off on Thursday, football fans are full optimism and curiosity.
Here are some questions we’d like your club to answer during the pre-season comp.
When is your team playing? Check out the full JLT fixture here
First JLT Community Series match: Friday, February 24 v Richmond at Etihad Stadium
Will Curtly Hampton grab a midfield spot? The former Greater Western Sydney defender will get a chance to show if he can transition to becoming a midfielder. Hampton has increased his running capacity and has been working on his skills at extracting the ball out of stoppages. With Rory Laird and Brodie Smith locking down the two spots across half-back, playing in the midfield is the best chance for Hampton to be a regular in the Crows’ best 22.
Is there a place in Adelaide’s best 22 for Troy Menzel? Acquired from Carlton during the 2015 trade period, Menzel was nowhere to be seen last year. He again faces a challenge to force his way into Adelaide’s electric forward line. However, if Charlie Cameron spends more time on the wing, there could be an opportunity for Menzel to get himself into the side.
Can the Crows support Rory Sloane at stoppages? Contested ball work has been a major focus for the Crows during the pre-season. Sloane was a one-man band in tight situations last year with support from the aging Scott Thompson and the injury-prone Brad Crouch. Cam Ellis-Yolmen appears to be the leading contender to fill Crouch’s spot if his hamstring injury rules him out of round one. Any help Sloane can get in that area will be greatly appreciated. – Lee Gaskin
First JLT Community Series match: Sunday, February 19 v Gold Coast at Broadbeach Sports Club
What will the Chris Fagan era bring? Three areas stand out: Fagan’s gameplan, how he lines up the magnets and who will be his captain. Dayne Zorko and Dayne Beams have emerged as the captaincy frontrunners, but Fagan has also not ruled out reinstating Tom Rockliff. Since walking into the job, the rookie coach has preached a tighter defence, and now we’ll get to see it in action.
Who will lock down the half-back spots?  It’s one area of the ground the Lions are quite well stocked in. Sam Mayes and Claye Beams – both excellent users of the ball – have the inside running after strong performances in the intraclub match. However, Tom Cutler is pressing hard and his ability to break lines with run-and-carry is a point of difference. Three into two won’t fit.
What will we see from Dayne Beams? After persistent knee problems and just two games in 2016, Beams has had a mixed pre-season. The former Collingwood premiership player has run a million laps and is super fit, but hasn’t participated in much match simulation yet. The Lions are more interested in getting him right for round one, but would love to get a pre-season match in his legs beforehand. – Michael Whiting
First JLT Community Series match: Saturday, February 25 v Melbourne at Casey Fields
Is Harry McKay ready to stand tall in attack? After a back injury disrupted his first season at Ikon Park, Harry McKay is set to get his first taste of senior football. The 19-year-old key forward shapes as an important player for the Blues over the next decade, but the JLT series will give some insight into whether he’s ready to play alongside Levi Casboult inside the Blues’ forward 50 this season.
Who will grab Zach Tuohy’s spot? With Tuohy’s departure to Geelong, there is a vacancy for a small/medium defender in Carlton’s backline. Ciaran Sheehan, Dylan Buckley and Dale Thomas are all likely to be trialled as possible replacements, while Ciaran Byrne will press his claims when he returns from a knee reconstruction later this season.
Can Zac Fisher push for a round one spot? Given Sam Petrevski-Seton will miss Carlton’s entire pre-season campaign with a quad strain, Zac Fisher looms as the most likely round one debutant from the Blues’ 2016 draft class. The West Australian has impressed on the track with his speed and class this summer, but he is slightly built and Carlton will need to be convinced he is ready to withstand the rigours of the AFL. – Nick Bowen
Carlton draftee Zac Fisher will be thrust into the JLT series early this year. Picture: AFL Photos
First JLT Community Series match: Thursday, February 16 v Essendon at Etihad Stadium
Can the Magpies find a spot for Mason Cox? The big man was impressive in the intraclub and looks to have taken another quantum leap. The third-man up ban should help and he will be a massive handful for any defender. A competitor, he looks to have an X-factor and the Magpies need to persist with him in order to get the pay-off he promises.
Is the team organised within the forward 50? This will be recruit Chris Mayne’s objective as he brings experience to a group that carries precocious talent in Alex Fasolo, Jamie Elliott, Darcy Moore, Will Hoskin-Elliott and, in the JLT series, Josh Daicos. Availability of players will be crucial so the Magpies will need to balance the need for minutes.
What will Daniel Wells add? Few recruits have joined the Magpies in recent seasons with the potential to make as big a difference as Wells. He moves well and is a good user but can he be relied upon? That question won’t be fully answered in the pre-season but preparedness to work and glimpses of the new dynamic he might add will be enough to excite Magpie fans. – Peter Ryan
First JLT Community Series match: Thursday, February 16 v Collingwood at Etihad Stadium
How will the returning Bombers fare? The biggest question and the hardest to answer. Coach John Worsfold won’t be expecting them all to blitz, but will be hoping they can get through unscathed without any injury concerns ahead of round one. Tom Bellchambers (knee) and Cale Hooker (hamstring) might not play much in the JLT Community Series, but the other eight returning Bombers should feature regularly.
Will we see No.1 pick Andy McGrath? McGrath has been quiet in the Dons’ most recent intraclub games, and the Bombers will steer him through his debut season carefully. But there is an anticipation for Essendon to unveil its first ever No.1 draft pick, and McGrath is good enough to play right away. He’s likely to get a chance during the pre-season competition, where his pace and smarts will be deployed across half-back.
How will the Bombers’ fleet of small forwards work together? Scoring has been an issue for the Bombers for several years, not just in 2016 with their depleted list. But this year the club has assembled a cast of exciting, quick and dangerous small forwards who could create some troubles for rivals. Orazio Fantasia has his name on a forward pocket spot and Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti has shifted forward. Former Lions rover Josh Green looks fit and has a presence, while Travis Colyer’s pace and creativity was sorely missed last year. – Callum Twomey
2016’s top pick Andrew McGrath is set to feature in the JLT ahead of an early debut. Picture: AFL Photos
First JLT Community Series match: Saturday, February 25 v West Coast at Wonthella Oval (Geraldton)
Will Nat Fyfe make a seamless return from his broken leg? It will have been about 10 months since Fyfe last played when he makes his comeback in the JLT Community Series. The superstar midfielder has been the Dockers’ standout on the training track over summer and all eyes will be on Fyfe to see how quickly he gets back to his bullocking best.
Can Freo’s new-look forward line deliver? With Matthew Pavlich riding into the sunset, the Dockers are set to build their attack around Matt Taberner, Cam McCarthy and Shane Kersten. McCarthy looks fit after a year out of the game, but will the former Giant be a touch rusty? Can Taberner build on his potential? And will ex-Cat Kersten grab his opportunity? Also look for Fyfe to spend plenty of time up forward.
Can the Dockers make the most of Bradley Hill’s line-breaking dash? There’s no doubt Hill will add pace and classy ball use to the Dockers’ midfield, but can Freo exploit the triple-premiership star’s attributes as successfully as Hawthorn? Hill has spoken of his desire to prove himself to his new teammates and could be a key to the club climbing back up the ladder in 2017. – Travis King
First JLT Community Series match: Friday, February 17 v Hawthorn at University of Tasmania Stadium (Launceston)
Will others step up to assist Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield? Throughout 2016 all the commentators wanted to talk about was ‘Dangerwood’. The Selwood-Dangerfield combination became a fascination, particularly as they dominated all the major statistical categories. However, the duo’s supremacy was also a pitfall for Geelong, as other midfielders struggled to assert themselves on games. The Cats will be hoping Mitch Duncan, Cameron Guthrie, Sam Menegola, Scott Selwood and Steven Motlop can step up and help alleviate the pressure on Dangerfield and Selwood.
What impact will Harry Taylor make up forward? The All Australian defender has spent this pre-season training as a forward, as the Cats look to address their overreliance on star Tom Hawkins. Taylor, who conceded the least amount of goals of any key defender in the competition last season (0.68 per game), has performed strongly in his new role in match simulation. Taylor’s experience in directing his teammates and elite marking ability could provide the Cats with a new dimension up forward.
Can Steven Motlop bounce back? At his best, the Geelong livewire is capable of breaking a game open in an instant. So the Cats will look to Motlop to recapture his best form following a poor 2016 season. Motlop is in much better shape this time around, he has been training strongly and looks ready to again become the midfield goal scoring threat the Cats need him to be. – Ben Guthrie
First JLT Community Series match: Sunday, February 19 v Brisbane Lions at Broadbeach Sports Club
How will David Swallow return after 18 months out? It’s easy to forget that in Swallow’s last season – 2014 – he was the Suns’ best and fairest. Since then, it’s been one knee problem after another and just six senior games. He’s had a great pre-season and was strong in the intraclub. Coach Rodney Eade said he’ll be used in a variety of roles including wing and half-back. Not a bad virtual new recruit to bring into your team.
Will Jarrod Witts lock himself into the top ruck role? If round one were played this weekend, Witts would be in. The Collingwood recruit has been a pre-season standout and impressed everyone at his new club with his athleticism and work ethic. Incumbent Tom Nicholls has nursed a calf problem but will get his chance to impress later in the JLT Series. It’s Witts’ spot to lose, but Nicholls won’t just lie down.
Who will win the midfield spots? Despite losing Jaeger O’Meara and Dion Prestia in the off-season, the Suns now have a plethora of players fighting for spots in the midfield. There’s recruits Pearce Hanley, Jarryd Lyons and Michael Barlow, draftee Jack Bowes and regulars Touk Millar, Jesse Lonergan, Aaron Hall and Alex Sexton. There’s going to be some unlucky players come round one. – Michael Whiting
David Swallow has missed a lot of footy but looks ready to burst back onto the scene. Picture: AFL Photos
First JLT Community Series match: Saturday, February 18 v West Coast at Narrandera Sports Ground
When will Brett Deledio and Steve Johnson be ready? Both veterans will miss the Giants’ opening game this week against West Coast, and there’s no guarantee they’ll make it back for round two against the Swans. Deledio (calf) and Johnson (thumb) are more likely to return for game three against North Melbourne in Canberra.
Which draftee will make the biggest mark? Tim Taranto was the club’s first pick at last year’s NAB AFL Draft, and will see game time early in the series, along with the likes of Harry Perryman, Will Setterfield, Isaac Cumming and Lachlan Tiziani. Look for Perryman to finish the pre-season competition with his nose in front for a round one spot.
Will Rory Lobb be given the role as the team’s number one ruckman? With Shane Mumford (elbow) unlikely to feature until round three of the JLT, if at all, the Giants could throw Lobb into the ruck to give him more experience in the role, or they might give Tom Downie the same opportunity to let Lobb, Jeremy Cameron and Jon Patton continue to build on their fantastic 2016 seasons. – Adam Curley
First JLT Community Series match: Friday, February 17 v Geelong at University of Tasmania Stadium (Launceston)
So many tall forwards. What to do with them? Jarryd Roughead is a walk-up start, but the next few weeks will tell us which of his fellow talls in Ty Vickery, Ryan Schoenmakers and Tim O’Brien can also play there. The Hawks didn’t score heavily enough in 2016 but the forward line looks tantalizing this year with medium-sized Jack Gunston, James Sicily and Ryan Burton, and small forwards Luke Breust, Paul Puopolo and, of course, Cyril Rioli also in the mix. Starting Friday we get a glimpse of how it all might work.
Who takes charge in the midfield? It won’t be Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis and Bradley Hill, so the Hawks will look vastly different. Jaeger O’Meara and Tom Mitchell will add needed class and grunt, but supporters want to see what second-year pair Kieran Lovell and Kade Stewart bring to the mix. Will Langford and Jonathan O’Rourke face the most important seasons of their careers. Hill’s departure creates a spot for Hartung if he’s good enough. The next month is critical for all of them.
What’s in Alastair Clarkson’s bag of tricks? Part of the painful decision to offload Mitchell and Lewis was recognition that the Hawthorn gameplan was no longer stacking up against the very best. The inventor of ‘Clarko’s Cluster’ in 2008 and the precise kicking game of 2013-2015 will have added some wrinkles, but it remains to be seen how much will be put on display, starting Friday night. What is interesting is that Clarkson will take charge against the Cats rather than place one of his assistants in charge as has been the norm. – Ashley Browne

First JLT Community Series match: Saturday, February 18 v Western Bulldogs at Whitten Oval
Will Melbourne’s gameplan change much under Simon Goodwin? Goodwin has a fresh canvas to work with in his first year as senior coach. Paul Roos’ three years in charge at the club saw gradual improvements in both defence and attack and Goodwin will be looking to take both areas to even greater heights in 2017. The new coach has been on record as saying he wants his players to play with speed and be bold, so look for an attacking Melbourne team during the pre-season competition.
Can Jordan Lewis, Michael Hibberd and Jake Melksham help take Melbourne to the next level? Apart from their obvious talent, Lewis and Hibberd were recruited to add much-needed experience to a young team with minimal finals experience. Lewis, in particular, has featured in many September campaigns and has been added to the club’s leadership group. Hibberd’s toughness and powerful kicking should add something different to Melbourne’s back six, while Melksham’s versatility will be important as the season progresses.
Will Melbourne deliver on its promise? The Demons are stocked with young talent and appear ready to become a team to be reckoned with in 2017. But, the development phase is over, and it’s now time for Melbourne to produce consistent performances to put itself in a position to contend for finals. – Ben Guthrie
First JLT Community Series match: Sunday, February 19 v Sydney at Coffs Harbour International Stadium
Will ‘Goldy’ be right for round one? North’s No.1 ruckman Todd Goldstein has been on a modified program since Christmas as he strives to overcome an ankle injury. The Roos are confident Goldstein will return in their second JLT Community Series game against Hawthorn on February 26, but will still be crossing their fingers that the 2015 All Australian’s rehab remains on track.
Who will fill Drew Petrie’s boots? Petrie’s departure to West Coast leaves a huge hole on North’s forward line. Jarrad Waite and Ben Brown enter 2017 as the Roos’ established tall forwards, but there is at least one spot available alongside them. Mason Wood should cement a round one berth with a solid JLT series, but at 192cm could be played as a lead-up forward. In this scenario, Majak Daw (expected to return from a knee injury in JLT round two) and Ben McKay will be vying to replace Petrie.
Is there room for Lachy Hansen in defence? Hansen had a horror run with injury and concussion last season that limited him to just five games. But he was left out of North’s round one team despite being fit, and in all but one of his senior games, fellow backman Scott Thompson was sidelined with injury. Thompson and Robbie Tarrant remain the Kangaroos’ preferred key defenders, so Hansen will be looking to show he is North’s best intercept backman option. – Nick Bowen
First JLT Community Series match: Thursday, February 23 v St Kilda at Etihad Stadium
Will Patrick Ryder be the Power’s ruck saviour? With respect to Jackson Trengove, who toiled manfully as the last-man standing in the ruck last year, Ryder will be welcomed back with open arms. Ryder has looked in great shape during the pre-season and will be keen to shake off the rust after serving his 12-month anti-doping suspension last season as part of the Essendon supplements saga. Ryder will be the Power’s first choice ruckman while also swapping with Trengove in the forward line.
Can rookie Brett Eddy push his case for a round one debut? The 27-year-old SANFL star is the front-runner to grab one of the two vacant spots on the Power’s senior list. Eddy is a proven goal-kicker at state level and has done everything expected of him during his first pre-season. He has the potential to be the perfect ally to Charlie Dixon in the Power’s forward line.
How will Sam Powell-Pepper handle the step up to the AFL? From the day the big-bodied midfielder arrived at Alberton in November, praise has followed. Powell-Pepper’s strength and size stood out straight away and showed why he didn’t look out of place in the WAFL last year. Power fans should be excited to see his combination with vice-captain Ollie Wines at the stoppages. – Lee Gaskin
First JLT Community Series match: Friday, February 24 v Adelaide at Etihad Stadium
What will the Tigers’ midfield look like? Harder and more dynamic. The additions of Dion Prestia and Josh Caddy will make a difference – Prestia has had injury troubles but is a star when up and running. The added depth should allow Dustin Martin to play more in the forward half of the ground, which will make the Tigers more dangerous.
Will Jack Riewoldt play closer to goal? Having lost the much-maligned Tyrone Vickery, the Tigers will need to replace his output. Playing Riewoldt deeper could be an option but his creativity and ability to pull the opposition’s best defender away from the back 50 means he will likely play a role similar to the past few years.
Does Shaun Hampson hold on to the No.1 ruck mantle? It will be a closely run contest. Toby Nankervis has impressed in his first pre-season at Punt Road and looked good in the intraclub last Saturday. Hampson is coming off a career-best season and will have to produce a similar level to keep his spot. – Dinny Navaratnam

First JLT Community Series match: Thursday, February 23 v Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium
How will Jake Carlisle look and will he fit in well with the rest of the Saints’ defence? It’s tough to see the former Bomber dominating straight out of the blocks. He hasn’t played since 2015 and was in rehab for much of this pre-season after hip surgery, so the backline will need time to jell. There will probably be some rust from Carlisle but he has obvious talent and should strengthen what was an undersized defence last year.
Will Nathan Freeman take part and what will his form be like? Coach Alan Richardson said Freeman is a chance to represent the Saints for the first time, as long as his body is sound. His hamstrings have held up well this pre-season but given the midfielder has never played a senior game, expectations on him should be tempered.

What will St Kilda look like under a new captain? It’s been 11 years since Nick Riewoldt wasn’t St Kilda’s permanent skipper but not too much will change under Jarryn Geary. The tough defender might not have the profile of Riewoldt but his leadership is outstanding and Geary should slot seamlessly into the role. – Dinny Navaratnam
First JLT Community Series match: Sunday, February 19 v North Melbourne at Coffs Harbour International Stadium
Can the Swans cover the loss of Tom Mitchell? The numbers might not be there to begin with, but Isaac Heeney’s move into the midfield will more than make up for Mitchell’s absence. He’s faster, more athletic and is an extremely tough match-up given his aerial ability.
Will Sam Reid re-establish himself? The tall forward took baby steps in last week’s intraclub, and the Swans will continue to ease him back into senior footy in a bid to have him ready for round one. With his game time monitored, the series will be more about gaining confidence and touch than goals for Reid, who is crucial to the team’s forward structure.
Has the lack of midfield speed been addressed? The addition of Heeney will help, but it’s the move of Zak Jones from defence that has given the Swans the outside run they needed. Jones is likely to hover between half-back and the midfield, carries the footy at speed as good as anyone in the League, and is hungry for more responsibility this season. – Adam Curley
First JLT Community Series match: Saturday, February 18 v GWS at Narrandera Sports Ground
Can Drew Petrie and Nathan Vardy stand up in the ruck? An untimely thumb injury for Jonathan Giles could increase the ruck reliance on Petrie and Vardy, who have both played the majority of their careers up forward, for the early part of the pre-season series. With Scott Lycett still no certainty for round one, the Eagles will hope their two tall recruits compete strongly and, most importantly, get through unscathed.
How big will Sam Mitchell’s impact be on West Coast’s midfield? Mitchell’s new midfield teammates have spoken glowingly about his influence on the training track and Eagles fans are eager to see the Brownlow medallist in action. Mitchell’s consistency over his career has been remarkable and that won’t change. But how much heat can he take off Luke Shuey and co? And will his football smarts improve those around him?
Can Eric Mackenzie force his way back into the best 22? He is something of a forgotten man but the 2014 club champion has had a strong pre-season and should be more comfortable in West Coast’s zone defence after struggling to adapt upon his return from a knee reconstruction last year. If Mackenzie regains his spot, it could unshackle Jeremy McGovern to swing forward more often and possibly into the ruck. – Travis King
With plenty of ruck work needed, Nathan Vardy won’t be caught lying down on the job. Picture: AFL Photos
First JLT Community Series match: Saturday, February 18 v Melbourne at Whitten Oval
Can Travis Cloke and Tom Boyd become a deadly duo up forward? With the Dogs lacking a consistent, tall marking target in attack for some time, Cloke will be desperate to demonstrate he’s worthy of a spot in a top-four side. Boyd will be out to prove that his Grand Final heroics weren’t just a flash in the pan.
Is Matt Suckling in the Dogs’ best 22? The playmaker had a solid debut campaign at Whitten Oval, but the former Hawk missed out on another premiership after battling an Achilles problem in the latter half of the season. Suckling struggled at times even when fit in 2016, and he will have to vie with several young Dogs for a wing/flanker role.
Will exciting draftee Tim English make an early-season debut? There’s plenty of hype surrounding the West Australian, with his ruck work and contested marking in match simulation impressing all at Whitten Oval. He also possesses elite foot skills, and is competent below his knees for a player who is 205cms tall. – Ryan Davidson
