I'm watching someone play a modded version of KH1 retranslated through Google Translate and it's fucking incredible.
(Just thinking about how the iZ!Twins bonded playing KH together as lil kids.)

Okay I'm not sure what show this is, but should I start watching it? I'm seeing Peter pan and Captain hook stuff, so I'm guessing it's like, a Disney show?
Oh hello!! The show is Jake and the neverland pirates? It’s another extension of the Peter Pan franchise, made specifically for the Disney junior program. I’m pretty sure it was also made to introduce Peter Pan to a newer generation. It already had its debut in 2011 and for 4 seasons, it ended in 2016.
If you’re expecting EVERYONE to be there (like the the lost boys or native Americans or the other Disney fairies) they will NOT show up. Wendy, her brothers, Peter and tinkerbell are characters who show up in specials.
Should you watch it? You’re asking a person who watched every episode from beginning to end, so ofc I say yes lol! BUT. I need you to know going into it let me reiterate that this show is MADE for PRESCHOOLERS, the show is supposed to teach about basic morals and lessons like teaching others to share, don’t steal, counting, etc (this eventually stops near the end of season 2 and starts to be more about their adventures S3 and onwards) and they do try to be that interactive Dora the explorer type show for maybe 1-2 seasons. Season one is abit stiff but it’s just trying to get its barrings :(.
As for Hook (and smee too I guess) he his dumbed down BECAUSE this is once again for preschoolers so no he will not shoot the kids in broad daylight or smoke a cigar infront of their faces. He isn’t as cruel as his original but he is definitely still a major asshole to the kids and inhabitants as well.
Tdlr; Yes, you should if it interests you! It’s not mind blowing or anything but it’s still enjoyable show even if the on nose lessons will make you eye roll. You just have to be patient with it and remember when a solution comes up that is a little too morally good, that it was made for the preschool demographic back in 2011.

about damara, but again, look at WHO is calling her a "racist caricature" and WHY. I dont think the people that do that even know what that means, because the only people ive seen call her that are americans or at kates podcasts and when you look at what they think is "good representation" they create shit like the validate game where a french-korean woman gets called colonized pussy and also nicknames herself "the colonizer and the colonized" because of her mixed heritage, or they draw damara as a tree jumping ninja, or they insult japanese artists for drawing the hs characters in an anime style.
and once again i want americans to answer this: do they think that when an anime/manga has a character speaking broken english its an offensive racist caricature, or they recognize that the mangaka might not speak english, acknowledge it as the joke that it is and not take it that seriously? because damara has way more in common with those characters than any racial caricature they are thinking of.
did they expect akira toriyama to learn fluent italian so that piccolo could start speaking it fluently because his name means small in italian? or english because apparently some people think piccolo is "black coded"? and im not defending hussie here either, fuck him, im asking how can anyone be expected to accurately portray damara, an alien troll parodying weaboos that has never lived in actual japan, as "japanese coded" if theyre required to learn an entirely new language to fluency for fanwork thats not even monetized?
instead of repeating and fighting over the same problem over and over again, why not offer a solution. i just want to hear what japanese fans think is bad about damara (her quirk, her design, her personality, its their call) and we could have a discussion of what could be done to better portray her as a parody of weaboos or simply just so that no artist nor writer is harassed anymore for simply wanting to do fanworks for her or simply liking her character.
so here is a starting point of the discussion on the long shot that there is a japanese fan reading this, but anyone is welcome to join: i actually think damaras attitude of a vulgar foul mouthed delinquent high school girl is supposed to be reminiscent of sukeban, in that shes a rebel outcast that takes no shit and smokes cigarettes. and that she wears a hairbun and speaks google japanese because hussie based her on tinkerbell, who has the same hairstyle and spoke in bell sounds that could only be understood by peter pan (ie. rufioh, pupa pan) and was very jealous of his romance with wendy (horuss?). if one problem in this concept is the google translate japanese, would it be better if that was changed to morse code instead or something else? why or why not?

The Band
Sam and Dean were at a bar with a live band playing some music. They were just drinking some beers and eating some food. After this band has played 5 songs, the next band was next, Heaven's Abomination.
After setting up their instruments,  the girl who has hazel eyes and dark blonde hair started to play the electric guitar before the boy with dark brown hair and dark brown eyes playing the drums came in.
Want your bad romance Want your bad romance
The male singer started to sing.
I want your ugly I want your disease I want your everything As long as it's free I want your love (I want your love) love love love I want your love (I want your love I want your love)
This made Sam and Dean watch the band for once.
I want your drama The touch of your hand I want your leather-studded kiss in the sand I want your love (I want your love) love love love I want your love (I want your love I want your love)
You know that I want you And you know that I need you I want it bad, your bad romance
I want your love and I want your revenge You and me could write a bad romance (Oh oh oh oh ooh) (The girl then sang on the mic Oh ohs) I want your love and All your lovers' revenge You and me could write a bad romance
Oh oh oh oh ooh oh oh oh ooh oh oh oh! Caught in a bad romance Oh oh oh oh ooh oh oh oh ooh oh oh oh! Caught in a bad romance Want your bad romance Want your bad romance
I want your horror I want your design 'Cause you're a criminal As long as your mine I want your love (I want your love) love love love I want your love (I want your love I want your love)
I want your psycho Your vertigo stick Want you in my rear window Baby, you're sick I want your love (I want your love) love love love I want your love (I want your love I want your love)
The girl then started to sing.
You know that I want you And you know that I need you I want your bad, your bad romance
I want your love and I want your revenge You and me could write a bad romance (Oh oh oh oh ooh) I want your love and All your love has revenge You and me could write a bad romance
Oh oh oh oh ooh oh oh oh ooh oh oh! Caught in a bad romance Oh oh oh oh ooh oh oh oh ooh oh oh! Caught in a bad romance Want your bad romance Want your bad romance Want your bad romance
The Boy singer continued.
I want your love and I want your revenge I want your love I don't wanna be friends
The girl resumed.
Je veux ton amour Et je veux ta revanche Je veux ton amour I don't wanna be friends (I don't wanna be friends) I don't wanna be friends (I don't wanna be friends) No, I don't wanna be friends (I don't wanna be friends)
The girl and boy sing this together
Want your bad romance (Want your bad romance) Want your bad romance
I want your love and I want your revenge You and me could write a bad romance (Oh oh oh oh ooh) I want your love and All your lovers' revenge You and me could write a bad romance
Oh oh oh oh ooh oh oh oh ooh oh oh! Caught in a bad romance Oh oh oh oh ooh oh oh oh ooh oh oh! Caught in a bad romance Want your bad romance
Both male and female singers finished it together.
Want your bad romance
Everyone cheered at the band before they played again... The girl playing the electric guitar changed the electric to an acoustic and switched places with the male singer making him playing the guitar. She then started to sing,
Hm-hm, ah, ah
Benefit of the doubt is my weakness Turning the other cheek to see less All of our friends on my arm, yeah Let's say it right, not my fault you got regrets It's that tip for hot camera flashes Bloody lips, nice and ripe out the classes Diamond, pearl and ruby, you'll swoon Can I offer you a little salt for that wound?
I've tried to take you lying down I clarified, tip-toed around Was innocent, clear and defined But you cross them every time
Don't make me be the bad guy Don't make me be the bad guy Despite all of my foresight I keep hoping I'll be right about you But you were the psycho So how, what do I know? (I know) Tell me you're the bad guy No, don't make me be the bad guy
Paradise Lost, you're fallen from grace You're cracking my ribs with just one embrace Your offering's empty, godless and cold I can read you like a book and it's getting old
Never was built to be this way But turns out the villain is fun to play Your Hollywood romance, extra and sappy, but- Spoiler alert: the ending ain't happy Eggshells crack beneath your feet The ugly truth is bittersweet So dress it up in fancy clothes But we both know how this goes
Don't make me be the bad guy Don't make me be the bad guy Despite all of my foresight I keep hoping I'll be right about you But you were the psycho So how, what do I know? (I know) Tell me you're the bad guy No, don't make me be the bad guy
No longer a pretty view ahead Our lies did not become us You became them instead
Don't make me be the bad guy (Ha, ha, ha, ha, yeah) Don't make me be the bad guy (Ha, ha, ha, ha, yeah) Despite all of my foresight (Ha, ha, ha, ha, yeah) I keep hoping I'll be right about you But you were the psycho (Oh ya, yeah, yeah) So how, what do I know? (Yeah, yeah, I know) Tell me you're the bad guy (Don't make me be the bad guy) No, don't make me be the bad guy (Don't make me be the bad guy) Despite all of my foresight (Yeah, yeah, despite all of my foresight) I keep hoping I'll be right about you But you were the psycho So how, what do I know? (I know) Tell me you're the bad guy (Bad guy) No, don't make me be the bad guy (Bad guy)
Hmm No, don't make me be the bad guy.
Sam and Dean were in awe and in shock when they heard the song, now, their drinks abandoned, just intently listening to the songs that they were singing/covering.
The next song was a bit triggering but there was a warning before they played the song, the girl introduced herself as well as the band and some of the songs that they will play next will be triggering and offend some people. Dean and Sam widen their eyes when the girl said her name, Iris Luna Winchester-Universe.  Sam and Dean decided to have a talk to her after they played the songs.
Once upon a time in a land far away There lived a little boy and he drank all-day Friends called him stupid and his brothers called him gay Emptied all the bottles 'til the pain went away
Whiskey was his friend, he didn't have another Vicodin his vice, his real and only lover (yup) Smoked a pack or two, it never was a problem Popped a pill or two, they really made him blossom (yup)
Take a sip, take a sip, take a sip And a trip, and a trip, and a trip And I'm like, when you bitch, when you bitch, when you bitch Counterfeit hypocrite holy shit

Everyone clapped and cheered for them and the band said that they will be playing one last song before the next band plays. They brought a keyboard for this song. The next song, made a few people cry. Even Dean himself.
There was a time when I was alone Nowhere to go and no place to call home My only friend was the man in the moon And even sometimes he would go away, too
Then one night, as I closed my eyes I saw a shadow flying high He came to me with the sweetest smile Told me he wanted to talk for awhile He said, "Peter Pan, that's what they call me I promise that you'll never be lonely, " and ever since that day
I am a lost boy from Neverland Usually hanging out with Peter Pan And when we're bored we play in the woods Always on the run from Captain Hook "Run, run, lost boy, " they say to me Away from all of reality
Neverland is home to lost boys like me And lost boys like me are free Neverland is home to lost boys like me And lost boys like me are free
He sprinkled me in pixie dust and told me to believe Believe in him and believe in me Together we will fly away in a cloud of green To your beautiful destiny As we soared above the town that never loved me I realized I finally had a family Soon enough we reached Neverland Peacefully my feet hit the sand And ever since that day
I am a lost boy from Neverland Usually hanging out with Peter Pan And when we're bored we play in the woods Always on the run from Captain Hook "Run, run, lost boy, " they say to me Away from all of reality
Neverland is home to lost boys like me And lost boys like me are free Neverland is home to lost boys like me And lost boys like me are free
Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy Darling Even Captain Hook, you are my perfect storybook Neverland, I love you so You are now my home sweet home Forever a lost boy at last
Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy Darling Even Captain Hook, you are my perfect storybook Neverland, I love you so You are now my home sweet home Forever a lost boy at last
And for always I will say
I am a lost boy from Neverland Usually hanging out with Peter Pan And when we're bored we play in the woods Always on the run from Captain Hook "Run, run, lost boy, " they say to me Away from all of reality
Neverland is home to lost boys like me And lost boys like me are free Neverland is home to lost boys like me And lost boys like me are free
After playing the song, they pack up while the band went next and Heaven's abomination went to the parking lot and put their stuff in while Sam and Dean approached her.
"Hey, you all were great out there," Sam said trying to make a conversation with the band.
"Thanks, man. Name's Iris." Iris said to the two tall men.
"I am Sam and This is Dean. " Sam replied to her.
"So is there anything else you need to talk about?" The guy who played the drums, Athrun, asked them.
"Well, yea. Aside from compliments, we wanted to talk to you about your family's last name." Dean said to her
"Oh, you mean Universe? Well, it is a bit universal," Iris said as she bumps her elbows against Chris's (Dark brown hair with blue eyes) shoulder while her friends are groaning at her dad joke. The brothers chuckled at her Dad joke.
"Nice one, but no. We meant Winchester, do you know who was your father?" Dean asked her curiously.
"Yeah, I mean who wouldn't." She told them with a 'duh' tone.
"What was his name?" Sam asked her.
"Er... John, I guess? I am really bad at names, especially birthdays. So I think it was John Winchester, which reminds me, I have not seen him for like 6 years. Why? Do you know what happened?" She asked them. The brothers widened their eyes when they heard John Winchester
"Well... Our father died in the hospital..." Sam said sadly.
"I'm so sorry about that- wait, what do you mean, 'ours'?"  She asked him incredulously
"We are his other sons, and as well as kinda... your half brothers," Dean replied to her.
"Are you sure it's not a common last name?" She asked them with caution now. 'and here I thought Universe is the only uncommon last name I have.'
They shake their heads no.
She gasped while she puts her hand over mouth before taking it out, jumping up and down squealing.
"I have brothers!?!" She said out loud.
"You-... You're not mad at us? Or even think that we are crazy?" Dean asked her with shock from the reaction that they have received from her.
"Mad? Why would I be mad or even would think that? I just realized that I am not an only child anymore! I would always dream of being the middle child, having older siblings and younger siblings as well! I would grab the opportunity as soon as I knew I have a sibling. This day must keep getting better and better." She told them while Chris and Athrun smiled at her reaction.
"What if we're dangerous? or even serial killers? or criminals on the loose?" Sam asked her, trying to make her a reaction a cautious one but she just shrugged it off and said that made the brothers smile at her.
"So what? Family is family, no matter what happens."
....
"Anyways, where do you guys live?" Iris asked them with a curious smile.
"Oh, uh... Lebanon, Kansas," Sam answered her question
"Okay, I will just visit you guys from time to time, so prepare your schedules, because I will start the visit in two days' tops. See you next time!" She told them before she went in and gave them a bear hug then pulled away.
She went into the van but before they left, Athrun poked his head out and said to her brothers.
"I feel so bad for you all." This resulted in him getting pulled back and getting slapped in the van.
As soon as the van left, this gave the brothers to think about their decisions.
"Dean, she is so... Innocent, our life is gonna scar her if we ever showed her," Sam told him suddenly feeling guilty about her if she ever for caught up in their line of work.
"That's why we are gonna protect her and care for her," Dean said as he turned around, pat Sam on his shoulder and walk back to the Impala.
Sam sighed then looked up in the sky before he went to the impala. The brothers then went home to prepare the room for their newly found little sister. Were they scared? Yes. But excited at the same time.

Not Dead Yet (Part 75)
*Someone’s having an identity crisis!*
Pairing: Reader x Peter Pan
Warning: language
I sat in the sheriff's station. David was on the phone trying to get ahold of my parents while the woman, Emma, explained the situation to me. Storybrooke was not a normal town. It is a town full of story book characters that had all forgotten who they were. A couple months ago the curse broke and everyone regained their memories.
“No, wait, like Henry’s storybook?” I was finding this all too hard to swallow.
“Exactly like his storybook. Everything in it is true.”
“So what am I then? I certainly don’t have any memories of living in an Enchanted Forest.”
“You crossed the town line. Anyone who does loses their memories again and only their cursed selves remain.”
“But...but I’m Marigold. I’m not someone else. I can’t be!”
“Y/N--”
“No! I’m not Y/N!” I buried my face in my hands, “I want to go home.”
“About that…” David came back into the room and gestured for Emma to come closer. He whispered but I could still hear him. “They don’t want her.”
“What?” I felt the tears start to well up. “What do you mean my parents don’t want me?”
“Oh geez,” He sighed, “You have to understand that they’re not your real parents. Turns out they hate kids and each other. Part of Regina’s curse.”
“So what? I just don’t have a family anymore? What am I going to do? Where am I going to stay? I don’t have any friends here!”
“Calm down,” Emma hushed me, “We’ll find a place for you to stay. Come with us back to the hospital. They’ll patch you up and we can keep talking.”
I nodded and we went back to the hospital. David and Mary Margaret watched over me while Emma walked off to do something or another. After I got bandaged David drove me to Granny’s Bed and Breakfast. I was allowed to stay there free of charge until more permanent accommodations could be found.
The next couple of days were hard. I tried to talk to my parents but they wouldn’t hear me. They didn’t care. I was a grown girl, I could take care of myself. At least that’s what they thought. If they weren’t my parents then where were they? Was I an orphan?
I tried not to think about it. With giants running amok and pirates on the loose I was content to sit in my hotel room. Sometimes I would tag along with David, Mary Margaret or even Ruby and Granny. They were kind and patient with me. They didn’t try to force my other life on me and instead let me figure it out in my own time. For now I was perfectly content to be Marigold Barrie, babysitter extraordinaire and human catastrophe.
As strange as this town is it is all I know. I think I could make it a home again.
Having Henry back and babysitting him again was probably the best thing to happen to me since I woke up bruised and bloody on the side of the road. He told me his stories and helped me when something about these shared worlds confused me. It was familiar territory talking to him about this kind of stuff and he loved helping me. He’s such a good kid.
One morning I was taking a walk through town and saw Henry up ahead. I walked up to him and the man he was with.
“Hey dork,” I ruffled Henry’s hair, “Whatcha doing?”
“Practicing my sword fighting.” he held up the wooden sword, “What are you doing out here?”
“Taking a walk.” I glanced at the man behind Henry, “You gonna introduce me to your friend here?”
“Oh right, Marigold, this is my dad, Neal.”
“Nice to meet you.” I smiled but he didn’t smile back. If anything he looked at me like he didn’t know whether to run or stab me with the toy sword.
“Y/N…”
“What?”
“Stay away from her, Henry.” Neal pulled Henry back from me, “You stay the hell away from my son!”
“Okay, what’s going on? Do I know you?”
“I know it’s you, Y/N. What are you doing here?”
“Okay, my name is Marigold. I live here.”
“Stop lying!” he shouted at me.
“Is something wrong here?” Mr. Gold walked over to us. Ms. Mills was next to him.
“I don’t know.” I took a step back towards Ms. Mills. “He flipped out on me for no reason.”
“Oh, I have a reason.” Neal wouldn’t stop glaring at me.
“What has Marigold done to warrant such malice?” Ms. Mills asked.
“Her name isn’t Marigold. It’s Y/N.”
“Well that is her real name, but she doesn’t remember that.” Henry came to my aid. “She accidentally crossed the town line and forgot who she really was.”
Neal looked back at me, “You don’t remember anything? At all?”
“Not a thing.” I shook my head, “But I’m guessing you knew me. What did I do to you?”
“First: does Neverland mean anything to you?”
“Like Tinkerbell and all that?” I shrugged, “I read the book and I liked the movies they made. Otherwise, no.”
“Tigerlily, dreamshade, Felix, Dark Hollow, is any of this ringing a bell?”
“Tigerlily was the Indian princess but for everything else I have no idea.”
“Is Marigold from Neverland?” Henry asked.
“I couldn’t be. There’s only Lost Boys on Neverland.”
“You are though.” Neal looked like he had aged ten years with this conversation, “You were the only Lost Girl the island ever had. Lived there for a long time.”
“So Y/N, or me, was a Lost Girl on Neverland. How did you know me? Were you a Lost Boy?”
“Unofficially. You tried to help me escape once. Didn’t go so well.”
“I guess we know why you can’t find me in your storybook, Henry.” So I did have a life. I know that everyone told me I did but a part of me never truly believed it. But hearing what Neal said stirred something in me. A familiar warmth in my bones.
“Neal, I don’t know what I did to you in the past but that’s not me. Can we start fresh?” I stuck out a hand, “I’m Marigold, it’s nice to meet you.”
He looked down at my hand before grabbing it and giving it a quick shake. “Nice to meet you, Marigold. I’m Neal.”
“So, I see what brings you to Storybrooke.” I smiled at Henry, “Your son’s a great kid. A little more trouble than is worth five dollars an hour but still good.”
“Oh I bet. Considering he tried to blow up a well not too long ago.”
“I’m sorry, you did what?” I gaped at Henry, “What the heck, man? Why were you blowing up a well?”
“I had my reasons.”
“And those reasons, while I’m sure logical to your dumb little eleven year old mind, just cost you our Saturday sundae party.”
“Marigold!”
“Don’t ‘Marigold’ me, mister. Well destroyers don’t deserve chocolate syrup and extra whip cream.”
“Kinda strict, aren’t ya?” Neal raised an eyebrow at me.
“Gotta be. There are rules and we must abide by them. Society would crumble without some way to maintain order.”
“Wow.” he laughed, “The curse really did a number on you. The carefree she-demon that thrived in chaos is now a strict, rule enforcing, babysitter.”
“She-demon...yeah I think I prefer babysitter to that.” Whoever the heck I was before this curse sounds horrible. Why was I so mean? Maybe it was a Lost Girl thing.
After we cleared the air Neal let me stick around with him and Henry. He told me a couple things about my life on Neverland. It all seemed so far fetched but then again the Evil Queen is paying me to watch her adopted son who happens to be the grandson of Snow White, and Prince Charming. Things could be weirder.
They even let me have a turn with the swords. Henry handed me his as Neal showed me how to wield it. Then there’s what happened after he showed me the basics. We started out slow. Blocking hits and the like. Then things got faster. We started moving around the park. A wide smile had crept onto my face as things got more and more energized.
Soon I was on the offensive and Neal was struggling to block my attacks. I let out a laugh that sounded too much like an evil cackle before my vision blurred. I charged him and stabbed the sword right in his gut pushing him to the ground.
I blinked a couple times trying to regain my wits. Neal was on the ground groaning in pain. I dropped the sword like it burned and bent down to help him. “Neal, I am so sorry. I don’t know what that was.”
“Seems your muscle memory is still intact.” he wheezed, “Lucky that was just wood.”
“I am so so so sorry.” my hands were shaking. “Are you okay?”
“Winded and I am definitely gonna have a bruise later but I’m fine. What about you? You’re shaking like a leaf.” We stood up.
“It’s just...while we were dueling something happened to me. I don’t know how to explain it. For a split second it felt like...like I wasn’t in the park. I was somewhere else.”
“What was it like?” he sat me down on the picnic table. “Where were you?”
“It was dark but really warm. Lots of foliage. I swear I could smell smoke, like from a bonfire.” I shook my head, “It’s insane.”
“Has anything like that happened before?” he asked.
“No. Never.” I clutched my arms closer to my body. “Did I just remember something?”
“Maybe.” Neal looked across at Henry. “Hey bud, how about you go and grab Marigold a water bottle.”
“On it.” Henry took off for the convenience store.
“You don’t need to worry about me. It was nothing. I can barely remember it now.” Already the memory or vision or whatever it was was slipping away.
Henry came back with a water bottle and a young woman. “Hi, Henry said you two were spending the day together.” the woman smiled.
“We are.” Neal got up and kissed her cheek.
The woman looked over at me and her eyes went wide for a moment. “Who is this?” she gestured to me.
“Oh right, Tamara this is Marigold. She’s Henry’s babysitter. Marigold, this is my fiancee Tamara.”
“Nice to meet you.” I waved to her.
“Marigold huh?” she nodded scanning me from head to toe. “What story are you from?”
“No clue. Apparently I’m from Neverland though. Weird turn of events learning that was.” I tried to laugh it off but it still made me a bit uncomfortable.
“Neverland? Really?”
“You’ll find everyone from all walks of life around here.” Neal answered.
“Well, as fun as this has been I think I need to be moving on. It was nice meeting you, Tamara. Neal, sorry for stabbing you. And Henry, please try not to blow up anything else.”
“Bye Marigold.” they waved and I continued my walk down the street. I think it’s time for me to reread Peter Pan. Learn a little more about where I came from.
~~~
Tamara drove the van into town and showed her partner, Greg, the pirate trapped inside. They were one step closer to reaching their goal to destroy magic.
“This is good news indeed.” Greg smiled as they closed the trailer door again. “Any other developments?”
“There is one.” Tamara pulled out her phone and showed him a picture of the girl Marigold she had met earlier that day. “Look familiar?”
“It can’t be.” Greg pulled the paper out of his pocket and compared the image to the girl on the screen. “It’s really her?”
“Oh yes.” Tamara waved the phone in victory, “She even said she was from Neverland. The fellas at the Home Office are going to love this.”
Begin Again 12
Chapter 12
"Are you sure you're okay keeping Mav?" Sharna asked as she worked on curling her hair.
"Babe, yes, stop asking me that. He'll be fine. Maks is gonna come over and we're going to do we're going to take them to the park, then dinner and ice cream. He got a new movie. He'll help with bedtime and then once they are asleep, we'll tuck them in. Mav has the mattress in Lottie's room. And if anything happens we'll call you guys. Stop worrying, it's going to be okay."
"I know, I just....I want this to go good."
"And it will. You guys need this. It's going to be good. I promise." Peta said reaching forward and squeezing Sharna's hand.
"I hope, does this look alright?" Sharna said as she finally finished her hair. She turned to look at Peta for approval. Her and Noah were going on their first official date that evening and after, they were going to go back to his house for the night. Peta had said she'd keep Maverick for Noah so he and Sharna could focus on them and do whatever they wanted.
"Gorgeous, Noah is going to love it. Are you still wearing the black dress you picked out?" Peta asked. They had a girls day yesterday and went shopping and primping. It was one of the first times they took Lottie out to do it and she had loved it. Sharna had found a black dress that came to her knees and had a sheer lace overlay over the top. The lace was detailed beautifully. It was fitted through the body while the bottom flared out just slightly. She also had a white and gray one but Peta had picked the black one from the beginning.
"I think so. I gotta do my makeup and throw my bag together and then I'll decide for sure."
"Alright, you want me to stay or you want quiet time?" Peta asked. She knew that sometimes she wanted distraction and sometimes she needed to think.
"No, stay. I just. Yeah, stay. I'm almost done. He should be here in 20 right?" Sharna asked. Noah was picking her up around 4 since he wanted to take her to dinner a little ways out of town and have some fun before they returned to the house for some them time.
"Yeah, in about 20. What are you taking for pajamas?" Peta said with a wink.
"Both?"
"Good thinking, although I'll bet you don't need anything other than that dress."
"P!"
"What, he's an attractive man. You're an attractive lady. That dress is smoking. Enjoy yourself. Have some fun."
"Oh my god, I should have sent you downstairs." Sharna said as her cheeks turned as red as her hair.
"I'm just teasing you. Here, give me your bag, go get dressed." Peta said taking the pile of stuff Sharna already had stacked on the bed. Sharna threw her the bag she was going to use which was actually Peta's and took the dress and headed into the bathroom. Peta packed while Sharna dressed.
"Well?" Sharna said finally appearing in the doorway. Peta turned around and her eyes got wide. "I mean I can wear the other one."
"No, no, no. Babe, you look stunning. Oh my goodness. The dress looked good in the store, but this, with your hair and your shoes. Babe, Noah is going to melt."
"Honestly, you think it's that good? Do you think I need a necklace?" Sharna said checking herself in the mirror. She was suddenly feeling very shy and indecisive. Two things she wasn't used to feeling.
"Babe, what's wrong?" Peta said looking at her best friend. There was something going on in her head and she could see it.
"I don't know, I just, I'm nervous. I want this to be perfect P. I've never been nervous like this before. It's not an oh my god, this might fall to pieces nervous, it's more of a giddy, excited, want this to work perfectly nervous." Sharna said as her hands started to fidget.
"Whoa babe. First breath. Second, i get it. It's actually how I felt when I first started dating Ollie. Everything was heightened. It'll settle. I promise. When you close your eyes, think about what you want out of this. I promise, it'll come to you." Peta said as she held Sharna's hands tightly in her own and squeezed. Sharna's eyes closed and she breathed deep a few times. She concentrated on what she wanted out of tonight and knew that Peta was right. It was different and that's why she was scared. It wasn't cause of Noah, it was becasue it was real.
"Better?" Peta asked after a few minutes.
"Yeah, thanks P."
"Anytime. Now the necklace. I think it could do either way, but it would be a nice touch. I have that kinda tight gold chain so it wouldn't lay on the lace, how about that?"
"Let's try it." Sharna said as she followed Peta to her room. She found the necklace quickly and hooked it on for her friend.
"I like it." Peta said moving so Sharna could see in the mirror.
"Me too." She said as the doorbell rang. Her eyes widened, making Peta laugh.
"Come on babe, let's go get your guy." Sharna nodded and followed Peta down the steps, Maks was working on letting Noah in while he held a giggling Lottie upside down.
"Hey man, the girls are, right here." He said as his eyes widened at Sharna's dress. Even he had to admit that she looked stunning.
"Hey, Shar, honey, you look beautiful." He stammered.
"Flowers." Maverick said as he interrupted the adults and made his way over to Sharna. He held a tiny boquet of daisies for his favorite lady.
"Aww, buddy, are these for me?"
"For my Sha-na." He said with a shy grin. Sharna accepted them and then scooped Maverick up to give him some hugs and kisses.
"Thank you Mav.  I love them."
"Ahem, well hopefully that means you'll love these too." Noah said as he moved to his son and Sharna. He held out a much larger boquet of flowers this time. It included roses, lilies, daisies.
"Noah." She said breathlessly at first. She smiled and went to take them but Maverick was glued to her.
"I can hold them." He said however he leaned close enough to put a simple kiss to her lips. "You do look stunning."
"Thank you." She said smiling happily.
"Are you ready?" He asked.
"Yup. I am. Peta has my bag."
"Here Noah, I'll swap." Peta said taking the flowers from him as well as what she assumed was Maverick's bag while handing him Sharna's. She took Sharna's flowers from Maverick too.
"Alright buddy, are you going to be good for Miss Peta and Uncle Maks?" Noah asked. Maverick however had other ideas.
"No, no weave Sha-na." He said as he wrapped his arms around her neck tightly. Sharna bit her lip. She had been worried about this.
"Buddy, we are going to be back in the morning and remember tomorrow you, are coming with me and daddy for the whole day?" Sharna said as she rubbed his back gently. She swayed slowly.
"But I miss you." He said into her neck.
"I'll miss you too little man but how about when it's bedtime, Uncle Maks or Miss Peta calls us and we can tell you goodnight?"
"Pwomise?" He said almost so softly that she nearly missed it.
"I promise. Pinky." She said holding up her pinky for him and letting him link his with hers. He buried back into her neck for a minute as she cuddled him as well. Then she kissed his cheek before handing him over to Noah. Noah said goodbye to him as well, including the same promises that Sharna had along with a pinky promise as well. Then the two were off leaving, the kids and Maks and Peta alone.
"Okay, whose's ready for our adventure?" Peta asked as she saw Maverick's lip trembling.
"Venture?" He asked curious as Lottie held tight to her hand.
"Yup, we're going to go to a new park and play and have dinner." Maks said.
"It even has a pirate ship!" Peta added.
"Like Tink ship?" Lottie asked immediately. She had seen Peter Pan a few times however was slightly more enthralled with the sassy fairy than she was with the boys.
"Exactly. Just like Tinkerbell's ship."
"Tay, Mav we pay?" Lottie asked holding her hand out to her buddy. He still clung to Maks however still a bit upset that his dad and Sharna had honestly left him.
"It's okay buddy. We're actually going to drive to the park. So we have to go get in the car. And I think Uncle Maks said we might get ice cream later." Peta said as she scooped up Lottie. She caught the little boy's eyes light up as he looked at his uncle. Maks nodded making Maverick smile.
"We have everything already right?" Maks asked Peta.  They had attempted to get everything ready earlier in the day figuring that they may need a quick distraction for Maverick once his two favorite adults left.
"Yup, do you two need to go potty?" Peta said looking at her daughter knowingly. It never failed that as soon as they put her in the car, she'd need to use the bathroom.
"Uh huh." Maverick said as he rested on Maks. He was much calmer now however you could tell that he still wasn't too keen on the situation.
"Alright. That's okay. Little miss you need to go try though." Peta said taking her and headed towards the bathroom. Once she returned they got the kids settled in the car and headed out to the playground. It was about 20 minutes away and they let the kids pick the music which consisted mainly of songs from the latest Disney movies. Once they got there, they got the kids out.
"Whoa, this is much bigger than I remembered. There only used to be the pirate ship thing." Maks said as he helped Peta get both kids out of the car. There were 3 play sets at the park, one of them being the pirate ship set up. The other one was regular while the last one was set up like a castle with the slides coming out of the turrets.
"It is huge. Okay you two, you have to stay with us." Peta said slightly nervous at the space and number of families there.
"Right. you can't run off. We'll make sure you play with everything. You guys can take turns picking." Maks said looking at Peta. He could see her anxiety on her face and knew he was going to need to assist in keeping the kids together.
"What do you two want to do first?" Peta asked praying that they'd say the same thing.
"Ship!!" They both said pointing and she breathed a sigh of relief. They headed toward the ship. Maks stole the backpack from her that had a few water bottles and snacks just incase as well as other things. She tried to keep it but he waved her off easily as he slipped it on. They spent the next hour and a half letting the kids take turns picking activities. Finally it was dinner time.
"More wings!" Lottie fussed as they put the kids in the car.
"We'll come back miss. We'll bring Aunt Sharna and Mr. Noah okay?" Maks said as he buckled her in, making sure that her straps were tight before moving to Maverick.
"Noo." She said as she started to cry. Maverick looked at her and held his hand out to her but she wouldn't take it.
"It's okay buddy. That was sweet of you though. She's just a little sad." Maks explained at the hurt look on Maverick's face.
"Kay." He said softly, grinning as Maks tickled him lightly.
"She's hungry. I think. Or I hope." Peta said as she looked at her daughter who was still sobbing quietly as she reached for the park.
"Me too. We still doing the chicken place for dinner?" Maks asked as he started towards what they had already agreed on.
"Yeah, they both like the chicken so that's easy. And there's that ice cream place beside it."
"Aksssss. Need you." Lottie whimpered from the backseat.
"In a minute sugar. We're almost there." Maks said as he finally caught her eye in the rearview. Peta watched the exchange with a twinge of guilt but relief at the same time. She checked on Maverick who was quietly watching out the window. They finally made it to dinner and Peta let Maks get Lottie while she got Maverick.
"Lottie sad?" Mav asked Peta once she had him in her arms.
"She is. I think she's a little cranky since she's hungry and ready for dinner." Peta said with a wink.
"Unca Maks fix it?" Maverick asked Peta as he watched Maks cuddle Lottie into him. She started to settle once she was in the man's arms.
"It looks like he is." Peta said softly.
"Lottie love Unca Maks?
"She does buddy she does. Just like you love Uncle Maks." She said ruffling his hair before setting him down to walk next to her. The group headed in and they ordered before finding a booth. Lottie refused to leave Maks so Maverick hung out with Peta. He was a bit skeptical at first since he hadn't spent too much time with her since he was always with Sharna whenever he could be. Once they ate, Lottie was a little calmer however Maks did tell Peta she felt warm.
"I hope she's not getting sick." Peta said with a look. She started work next week and Lottie started daycare as well. Peta couldn't send her to daycare sick.
"I hope not too. Do you need to give her anything?"
"Not yet, I'll see how she is at bedtime. She was upset and everything and has stayed tucked into you. Not likely that it's that but I hate giving her things if she doesn't need it."
"Right, I understand. Do you want to skip ice cream and just head home?"
"They are not going to forget ice cream. I think it's fine. We'll just get them home and get them in jammies and do a movie right away if that's okay with you. I know you have Louis and everything so if you need to go to him you can."
"No, it's fine. I had Louis out all morning with Lottie while I  kept her for you. I told you I'd help you tonight. I'm all yours. Err, I mean...you know what I meant." Maks said trying to fix his slip.
"I know. I just I don't want to take you away from anything." She said with a shrug.
"You're not. Let me help, okay?" He said not sure where the sudden bout of stubbornness had come from on Peta's part.
"Okay." She nodded before looting at the kids. "Who's ready for ice cream?"
"Meeee!" They both yelled excitedly. Peta winked at Maks as they gathered the kids and headed to the ice cream shop next door. A half hour later, they were taking two sticky little kids out to the car.
"Looks like we're having bath time before movie time." Peta said with a grin.
"I'd say so." Maks said laughing. He did his best to buckle the kids in without ending up covered as well but it was kind of a lost cause. They headed to Peta's and got the kids ready for bed before settling on the couch to watch a movie. Maverick curled up next to his uncle which set Lottie off almost immediately.
"Nooooo." She wailed from the middle of the living room as she realized Maverick was with Maks.
"What's wrong baby?" Peta said moving to pick her up. She threw herself on the floor however instead and began to scream.
"No. No. No. No." She yelled again and again.
"Baby, Momma can't fix it unless you tell me what's wrong?" Peta said sitting next to her.
"Want Aks....." She finally wailed and Peta put her head back nearly laughing.
"Sweetheart, is that why you're crying?"
"Mav sit aks. Lottie want Aks." She whimpered sadly.
"Baby, you both can sit with Maks. I think Maverick will share, right Mav?" Peta said looking at him.
"I shares Unca Maks with yous Lottie. Come here." He called her. She looked for a second and Peta thought for sure she was going to lose it again at having to share Maks but she went for the two instead. Maks pulled her up and helped her get situated.
"She's still hot." He said softly to Peta.
"I'm gonna go grab Tylenol. I mean I know she's been glued to you lately but that was a bit out of the ordinary for her. Tired or not."
"Okay. I mean maybe it's just teething?" Maks asked with a shrug. He knew and loved Maverick but didn't know what the different ailments could be for the little ones.
"Let's hope. I can't send her to daycare for the first day, sick." She said standing up and walking away. She brought the medicine back and gave it to Lottie. They started the movie and Lottie fell asleep pretty quickly. Maverick however shifted over to Peta and made it to nearly the end of the movie before falling asleep as well.
"Someone forgot about calling Sharna and Daddy." Maks said as they made their way back down the stairwell after tucking the kids in.
"That he did. I'm gonna text them real quick and just let them know he's alright. Irony is Shar will probably worry more than Noah."
"You're not kidding. It's the "new" thing." Maks said air quoting the word new. Peta knew exactly what he meant. Ever since Sharna and Noah had decided they were going to try this thing out, Sharna had developed this extreme mother sense for Maverick. It was adorable at times but you could also tell it was more intense than usual.
"Oh you're right. Are you staying for awhile? Or you leaving me?" Peta asked as she laid her phone down. She had snapped a picture of Mav snuggled into her before they had taken them up which was what she sent Sharna and Noah letting them know that he was safe and happy.
"That's up to you. I don't want to do anything you're not comfortable with." Maks said. He wanted to spend time with her but he also didn't want to be pushy and hurt her in the process.
"Stay. Do you wine? I was going to have a glass." She asked moving to the kitchen.
"I wine, I'll wine with you." He followed her. She handed him the wine and opener while she pulled down two glasses. He served them and then she lead them back into the living room. Tye both settled on the sofa, she on one end and him on the other.
"I know you're going to say to be quiet but thank you for being you with Lottie. I still feel guilty when it comes down to it but I do appreciate it. I know she misses Ollie and misses having that dad figure."
"Well it's not necessary but you're welcome. She makes it easy. She's a sweetheart. You can tell she's had a lot of love and support in her life. I think despite the fact that she's lost that, she's going to be a great kid and she has you to thank for that."
"I can't say I agree but I appreciate the idea. But I feel like you know all this stuff about us because of everything. I want to know more about you. Tell me a Maks story. Tell me about your family." She said as she curled into her end of the sofa.
"What about?" He asked looking at her with a grin.
"I don't know. You pick. Something happy." She said curling her legs under her as well.
"Alright. Hmm, I don't think I've really talked to you about my brother much have I?"
"Umm, you really only have told me about the studio and that your momma would punish you if you didn't treat a lady right. I don't even know that I knew you had a brother." Peta said was a grin.
"Okay, well that's what we'll go with. There's 6 years between us so it's always been quite the relationship. We shared a bedroom and bunk bed clear up until I was 21. Then I moved out only to start helping with a different studio."
"Wow, so you two are pretty close then?"
"Very. It's been awhile since I've seen him actually. I need to get him to get his butt down here." Maks said.
"Yes you do. Or go to him. What's his name?"
"Valentin."
"Ohh."
"But we call him Val usually. Momma is the only one who says Valentin and that means he's in trouble." Maks said laughing. He paused for a few moments before launching into a story about when Val and him were younger and they had gotten into a mess of trouble. The two were giggling ridiculously by the end of the story. Peta then began to tell a story about her and her brother, Sam, who was still in Australia. Her story was interrupted by a huge crash of thunder.
"Shit, Lottie." Peta said bouncing up. Lottie was full out terrified of thunderstorms. She would panic and shake relentlessly whenever one went down so Peta knew this wasn't going to go over well.
"What?" Maks asked jumping up with her. They were both met with a shrill shriek. Peta took off up the steps with Maks right behind her. By the time he made it to the bedroom, Peta already had Lottie up in her arms swaying her trying to calm her however the little one was having none of it. She wasn't hysterical, Maks could see she was just terrified. Maverick had woken up in the process as well, looking confused as ever and worried about Lottie.
"Unca Aks?" He whispered holding his arms up to his Uncle.
"Come here buddy, it looks like Lottie is afraid of the storm. You think we can help her feel better?" Maks said as Maverick rested his head on his shoulder. While Maverick wasn't terrified of storms he wasn't fond of them either. Maks figured distracting him was the safest best. He nodded his head so Maks moved over to the two ladies.
"It's okay baby, it's just the big booms remember?" Peta said as she swayed slowly rubbing Lottie's back in unison.
"No like, no like, no like." Lottie said miserably. She yelped as another clap echoed through the house a long with a burst of lightening.
"I know sweetheart, I know. You're safe though. Look you have momma, Maverick, and Mr. Maks." Peta said as she tried to settle her some.
"Aks. Keep Lottie safe." Lottie said picking her head up as the tears continued to fall. "And momma, and mav."
"I'm right here miss. You're safe. I promise. We're all safe."
"Hold hers." Lottie said reaching for him.
"Okay, come here baby." Maks said catching her easily. He shifted Maverick slightly guessing he wasn't going to go to Peta at the moment. Lottie buried into his neck but held her hand out for Peta as well.
"Momma, hand." She whimpered as her body shook against Maks.
"I'm right here love. We're all right here." Peta said letting her take her hand. Maverick ended up reaching across Maks and putting his hand on Lottie too. The 4 stood there for awhile as the booms and flashes continued to fill the room.
"It has to stop soon." Maks said looking at Peta.
"She's not going to settle even then. She's going to be glued to one of us for the night." Peta said knowingly. Maks nodded, not necessarily minding but trying to figure out how they were going to work this. He remembered something that he used to do with Val when they were younger and wondered if that would help.
"Do you have extra blankets? Like sheets and that?"
"Umm, yeah. I have a few extra pairs, why?"
"How would you two like to build a fort? We can camp in the living room, that way we all stay together?" Maks asked the two little ones.
"Tent?" Maverick asked knowingly from when Noah and Maks had taken him camping.
"Like a tent buddy."
"K." He nodded his head in agreement. Lottie however just buried further into Maks.
"Mav, can you go with Miss Peta and help her get the blankets? Lottie and I will get pillows and meet you in the living room. P, do you have flashlights?" He asked.
"Yeah, we can grab them too. They are actually in the kitchen. If you wanna grab the pillows out of mine and Sharna's rooms you can. Okay Mav, you ready to help?" Peta said leaning forward to take Maverick. He went with her willingly.
"Okay Miss Lottie, let's get some pillows for us. You want to camp out with me and Momma and Maverick?"
"You no go way." She said as her grip on his neck tightened. He paused his motions for a moment holding her tightly.
"I'm not going anywhere baby. I promise." Maks said pressing a kiss to her head.
"K. Lily and blankie." She pointed. The two lovies had gotten lost in her panic and were laying in her crib.
"Here you go. You hold them tight, okay?" Maks said handing them to her. Then he gathered a few of the pillows in her room, tossing them down the stairs before grabbing another batch from the guest room Sharna was staying in, followed by Peta's as well. He headed down with Lottie and started fixing the furniture so that they could make the fort. Peta and Maverick came in soon after and helped as well. Once everything was arranged they covered the furniture and chucked the pillows under makeshift tent.
"Go ahead buddy." Peta said as Maverick let her put him down and crawled in. She went after him followed by Maks and Lottie who still refused to release her grip on Maks. The storm had stopped by then however her shaking had not.
"Lottie, can you?" Maks said as he tried to get them situated. She tightened her hold on him however and he nearly laughed.
"That's a no." Peta said as she helped Maverick get snuggled into a blanket with his pillow.
"Momma" Lottie mumbled.
"I'm right here baby, I'm tucking in Maverick." Peta said as she got him all settled.
"Hold Lottie too, peas." She said sadly as she held her hand out. Peta looked between Maks and Maverick who was holding Peta's hand as well.
"Umm, Lottie, Momma..."
"Need hers too." Lottie fussed as her eyes filled with tears again.
"Okay, okay baby, I'm coming." Peta said. "I'm assuming you're keeping her for now?"
"Yeah, no use working her up, I'm fine." Maks said.
"Okay, can you get situated and then I'll just...well I'll have to lay next to you. And I'll just bring Maverick with me." Peta said as she surveyed their situation. They were already in tight corners as it was but this was tricky.
"You okay with that?" Maks asked as she shifted down keeping Lottie on him the whole time.
"I have to be. She's going to lose it. And she's not old enough that I can explain it." Peta said as she laid next to Maks before bringing Maverick over. He was basically half asleep so he barely noticed.
"Right." Maks said. Peta kept an eye on Maverick for a second until she was sure he was out before laying on her side facing Maks. Lottie was tucked into his chest with Lily and Blankie in her arms as she gripped Maks's shirt. She held her hand out for Peta who took it. this meant that Peta was resting almost near Maks's shoulder with her hand laying above his heart.
"Close your eyes lovebug. We're all right here." Peta said as she saw Lottie's eyes begin to close. Maks started to rub her back and it wasn't soon before she was out as well.
"You okay?" Maks asked looking at Peta.
"Yeah, I just don't like that I can't fix it when she's scared like that. However she's not really old enough to understand the words to explain it." She said as she shifted around trying to get comfortable.
"You're right. This is all you can do though, let her see she's honestly safe when it happens."
"Yeah." Peta said with a yawn.
"I guess we should try to sleep. There's no telling that there won't be another one." He said with a sigh.
"You're okay with her?" Peta asked.
"Yeah, she's fine."
"Okay." She shifted around a few more times trying to settle and sleep but all of a sudden it was like every bone in her body was pressing into the floor and she couldn't get comfortable. Maks watched her for quite some time trying to decide what to do before he finally decided he was going to do it.
"Come here." He said softly.
"What?" She said alarmed.
"Come here." He said again holding his arm out.
"Maks...." She said as she leaned up and looked at him.
"Nothing fancy, nothing else, just you need to sleep and clearly that's not happening now. If you get over here and it's not okay, we'll figure something else out."
"K." She said before sliding over to him. She rested her head on his shoulder as her arm came up to rest around Lottie. He wrapped his arm around her and settled it on her hip. He waited a few more moments before saying anything.
"You okay?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, goodnight Peta."
"Goodnight Maks." She said. It still took a little bit it wasn't long before sleep won and she drifted off to dreamland along with the other three.
**That's a wrap. Guess who's back! Maybe not permanently or well consistently but a lot of things have settled in life. Some changes may be coming that have been long anticipated and honestly needed. So as long as things continue to progress well, I'll have writing time again. I can't say there will be a schedule or that I'll update once a week but I'll try to not leave you guys again.
Thank you for sticking this out with me. I hope you enjoy this one! Don't forget to like it and let me know what you thought. Love you all!
Growing up.
(Disclaimer, that particular theme occurred to me somewhere between panic-checking my bank-balance, and watching an escaped cricket on the sofa, to see if it would crawl into one of the boy’s many bags, so I wouldn’t have to deal with it. The bank-balance is still a terrifyingly unknown issue, today being a bank holiday, and the ex not having sent me the money for his motorbike insurance, but the cricket is now in the dragon’s vivarium.)
I haven’t seen as many life-affirming posts on Fakebook as I feared I would ‘need’ to wade through, with my patented cat’s-arse face, and Slimming World (Other weight-loss cults are available) seem to be waiting until an actual working day before filling all of the space that there is with adverts. Really, if you want to lose weight for YOU, for health reasons, or because you want to, go ahead and do it. Don’t do it because ‘everyone else is doing it’, or because you think being ‘slim’ will be unicorn-magic, and make everyone like you. I could lapse into that Roald Dahl thing, about beauty, but it’s a Guardian article I read yesterday about society normalising body-shaming, and idealising a particular ‘shape’, or ‘look’ as perfection that’s bugging me.
It’s not the ‘weight’ thing that bothers me so much, my weight fluctuates, I suspect that’s relatively ‘normal’. I had some fairly gruesome medical investigations last year, so see if there was a physical cause for losing over 3st in 18 months, there wasn’t. The man who performed my colonoscopy looked through my notes, to find my last-recorded weight, and it was over 11st. When I presented myself to my GP, looking for the reason I couldn’t maintain body-mass, I was 8 1/2st. clinging on to the few pounds I’d managed to pack on, after dropping to 8st 3lb at one point, I’m 9 1/2st now. That was one of the reasons the constant Slimming World chatter in the office made me want to scream, their maungy faces when they’d ‘maintained’, and their creepy fixation with losing whatever arbitrary number of pounds their ‘target’ was. I’m not getting angry about it now, it saddens me, that grown women, ‘professionals’ were so utterly obsessed with ‘target weight’, so drawn in to the round of applause for being ‘Slimmer of the Week’, and so dejected when they didn’t win a basket of crap other people had evicted from their cupboards. I’m relatively sure that once ‘they’ hit ‘target’, and stop going for their weekly weigh-ins, the weight will creep back on, and the cycle will start all over again.
I don’t want to lose weight, although I do acknowledge that I ought to do something about my lack of muscle-tone, this back-pain is probably exacerbated by not-moving, but, being MY body, there’s a sort of demonic squeal from my lower-left back when I do move.
My hair is a mess, not just because I haven’t combed it for days, but because I haven’t dyed it in months. I’m not really the ‘graceful greying’ type, there’s pretty clear evidence of my advancing years, in the quantity of pure white hair sprouting out of me. A grown-up woman would have done something about that by now, what I do is put on a woolly hat if I’m leaving the house. I either will, or won’t dye it prior to the work-meeting later this week, the sarcastic part of me wants to leave it, in a ‘look what you have DONE to me’ gesture, but I’m not entirely sure ‘badger that has crawled out of a bin’ is professional enough for the meeting, especially if that patronising twat from the authority is there.
This outward-loathing-of-heels-and-lipstick is deflection, I recognise that I’m a crap grown-up, and I’m 40 next week. I’m navel-gazing, in the most profoundly ridiculous ‘where do you see yourself at 40′ way imaginable, twisted humour being my go-to. I don’t have a new car, for fuck’s sake, I haven’t bought new BOOTS in well over a year. The salmon I ate for my New Years Day lunch wasn’t responsibly sourced, lovingly oak-smoked, and served on an impossibly complicated bed of fuck-knows, it came out of a tin, and I didn’t check the use-by date. Material ‘stuff’ doesn’t appeal to me, but I’m so profoundly shit at being a grown-up that I spend the last two weeks of every month eating remnants from the back of cupboards, because I’m scared my debit card will be declined in Tesco.
Right, knobhead, evaluate what you’re wittering on about.
I’m 40 next week because I was born in January 1977, and that’s how time works. For the last week or so, I’ve been fixated on the time I was about 14, and that lad who used to drop his pencil under the table, and pull his penis out of his fly in History got hold of my diary. He was a weird one, and he’s probably in prison now, he was the one who masturbated into the yoghurts we made in Biology. Anyway, he got hold of my diary, and read the front page OUT LOUD. “Stop biting nails and picking spots, grow hair, and change image.” I’ve stopped biting my nails, except when I snag one, and can’t be arsed to find the clippers. Spots, I haven’t quite mastered that one, being disgusting. ‘Grow hair’, bit of a contentious target there, 14-year-old-me, because hair grows all on its own, and if I had known at 14 all the places a hair might decide to sprout out of a 39-year-old, I might have reconsidered. Change image. Well, I don’t have an image, do I, unless ‘that weird one that nobody wants to talk to’ is an image, or just plain ‘bitch’.
I get myself all wound up about other people’s ‘image’ obsessions, with their eyebrows just-so, while mine just sit there on my face, and I need to let some of that outrage go. OK, it’s not healthy for grown adults to sulk all day if you don’t notice their new hair-do, but it’s also not-healthy for me, as a supposed-adult to get my Asda cartoon-character knickers in such a twist about it.
Fuck it, I might wear the Tinkerbell pants today, I don’t have any Peter Pan ones.
Not Dead Yet (Part 73)
*I will be uploading Not Dead Yet to AO3 after I finish it on tumblr. It is going to go through a bunch of editing, trimming and the reader is getting an OC name. Other than that same old story. Alright let’s do this!*
Pairing: Reader x Peter Pan
Warnings: Language
I was sitting in the kitchen going over some homework. It was numbing my brain. When am I going to need algebra in life? This is ridiculous. Why won’t senior year end?
My phone rang and I jumped at the chance for a distraction from the quadratic formula. It was Ms. Mills.
“Hello? Henry? No, I haven’t seen or heard from him all day. Has something happened? Missing? Oh well I know some boltholds of his I could check out. Yes, of course, I’ll call you if I hear anything. Bye.”
“Something wrong, Marigold?”
“Henry Mills is missing. I’m going to head out and see if I can find him. I promise I’ll be back by curfew.” I closed my textbook and started to tug on my shoes.
“You’ll be back by dinner.” mom corrected me, “Stay safe.”
“Always am.” I was already pulling on my jacket, “Bye.”
I stopped by his castle first. It was a little rusted playhouse on the beach that he always loved playing on. I knew that if he ever needed time away he would go there first. Unfortunately he didn’t seem to be there this time. This was a small town but there were a lot of hiding places. Dangerous hiding places. The woods alone could take days to search. I hope he hadn’t gone far.
The next couple of hours I spent wandering around town but Henry was AWOL. He’s ten, how far can a ten year old get in a couple hours? It was getting late and I headed home for dinner. Mom and dad asked whether Henry had been found but I was sad to say that no such progress had been made.
The next day before school I stopped by Ms.Mills office and asked if Henry had been found. She was glad to inform me that he had been safely returned late the night before. She also wanted to pay me to walk Henry from school. I could tell she was just worried about him since he had up and disappeared so I took the request in stride. Five extra bucks to walk him down main street? Done.
I waited outside the school for Henry’s class to exit. I watched the short heads stream out the doors but Henry’s was not among them. Where was he? Behind the kids Ms. Mills strutted out looking peeved. “Ms. Mills?”
“Marigold,” Ms. Mills stopped, “Have you seen Henry?”
“No. I was waiting to take him home like you asked. Is he missing again.”
“It would appear so.”
“I can go look for him again. It wouldn’t be a bother.”
“Don’t worry yourself. He couldn’t have gotten far. Go enjoy the rest of your afternoon.”
“Alright, I’ll tell you if I see him.”
“Thank you, Marigold. I’ll be sure to inform you when he’s been found.” She walked off again. A moment later another woman walked out of the school that I had never remembered seeing before. These past couple days are strange. I got a call an hour later telling me that Henry had been found...again. Keeping an eye on this boy may just be worth more than five dollars an hour.
As I was sat around the dinner table with mom and dad we had the same old small talk about work and school. The only real thing of interest was the woman that had come to Storybrooke, Henry’s birth mother. That was just lovely. No wonder things were all mucked up. Ms. Mills was an intimidating woman and a very protective mother. Throw in your adopted son’s birth mother and things just got even more complicated. At least there was something going on in this town for once.
Apparently I was right about things changing. Ever since Henry’s bio mom came to town things had started happening from the clocktower finally moving to the John Doe in the hospital coming out of his coma.
From then on things just kept getting stranger. Sheriff Graham died, Ms. Blanchard became the town harlot and was framed for murder just to be proven innocent. My schedule with Henry had gotten thrown all out of whack what with all the chaos. When I did get to watch him he was always antsy to get away. So to keep him in place I asked him about the one thing he could never shut up about, fairy tales. His fairy tales.
“So let’s go over the list shall we?” I pulled out my notebook. One of the things that kept him interested was figuring out who all the townspeople were in relation to his storybook. Ms. Blanchard was Snow White, the John Doe aka David was Prince Charming, Doctor Hopper was Jiminy Cricket. “Any new discoveries since we last met?”
“Like you wouldn’t believe.” he said with a smile, “Can I have the pencil?”
“Here ya go buddy.” I handed it to him. “Hey Henry, you never told me something.”
“What?”
“If everyone in this town is a storybook character which one do you think I am?” I asked. This was something I had been curious to but never questioned.
“I don’t know.” he shrugged, “Who do you think you are?”
“I don’t know. I was hoping you had an idea.” I sighed.
“Don’t worry. Soon the curse will be broken and you’ll remember who you are again.” Henry assured me.
“Well that is a relief.” I peeked over his shoulder to see his new notes. “How are things going? I know things with your two moms have been hectic to say the least.”
“It’s all in plan with Operation Cobra.” Again with Operation Cobra. He never told me anything about that. I didn’t mind so much.
After he was done I packed everything back up. Ms. Mills came home later after I tucked Henry into bed. She paid me and I left. She didn’t look so good but I felt that it wasn’t my place to ask if anything was wrong. Ms. Mills has gotten a lot more sensitive since the arrival of Emma and I didn’t want to test my luck with her, even if it was well intentioned.
I was upstairs in my room doing even more homework when I got the sense that something was wrong. There was a certain uncomfortable tension that buzzed in the air and made it hard to focus.
“Marigold!” mom shouted up to my room, “Get down here!”
“What? What’s happened?” I rushed downstairs.
“That one boy you babysit, Henry, he’s in the hospital.” she said.
“The hospital?” I gasped, “What happened? Is he alright?”
“I was in the middle of a call with Francene from the hospital when Henry got rushed in. Apparently he was knocked out or poisoned or something and he’s not doing too well.”
“Oh my god,” I mumbled, “I need to get to the hospital. I need to check on him.”
“I’ll drive you.” mom and I rushed out to the car and we were at the hospital in minutes. I ran down to where the most commotion was and saw Henry being hooked up to all these machines and the doctors and nurses flying about looking for answers. Oh god…
“Nurse,” I stopped one of the nurses, “Is he alright? What happened to him?”
“We don’t know yet but we’re doing our best. Now please go to the waiting room, this area is overcrowded as it it.” she said and pushed past me.
Please let Henry be alright.
I sat in the waiting room along with some others as we waited for any news about Henry. The day grew longer and I felt like my brain had been dunked in one of Granny’s deep fryers. Please oh please just let Henry come out of this alive. He needed to live. Just let that little heart of his keep beating!
One of the nurses walked out to the waiting room and called Henry’s name. Everyone waiting in the vicinity stood. “Is he okay?” my throat clogged up.
She shook her head. “We did what we could but he didn’t make it. Whatever was afflicting him we were unable to find it before it was too late. He’s gone.”
“No…” I choked, “H-He can’t be. He has to live! There is so much more that he needs to do! He can’t be dead.”
“I’m so sorry. Would you like to come say goodbye?”
“No. No, I’m just going to go home. I need some time to process all this.” she gave me a nod and I walked out of the waiting room. Poor Henry. So young. So full of life. He didn’t deserve this.
“Mari, are you okay?” mom asked.
“I need a moment.” I walked out of the hospital tears streaming down my face.
This can’t be happening. Henry can’t be dead. If he’s dead then everything was ruined! Years of planning down the drain!
What? Years of planning what? A memory tickled in the back of my head but just like my dreams I couldn’t reach it. I felt like yelling at the sky and cursing everyone and everything for this horrid day.
A gust of wind pushed through me out of nowhere. What was…
“Y/N.” I breathed out as all my memories came flooding back, “My name is Y/N.”
Everything. I remember everything! My father, being a grave digger, Neverland, my brothers, Wendy, Tinkerbell, Tigerlily, Hook.
“Peter.” Peter Pan. My Peter Pan!
I ran back to my house--not my house--the house I had been trapped in and overturned the room I had called mine. How did I stand all this? Pastels and dresses and fluffy little cardigans? Where were my old bloody boots when I needed them? I ransacked the room for clothes that were sturdy and not entirely embarrassing as well as the best pair of tennis shoes I could find.
Twenty eight years. Twenty eight years of being stuck as a babysitter away from Neverland and Peter and all my friends. I was not going to go back dressed as some fairy princess.
I went to the window and threw it open. I don’t know if this will work during the day but hell I was gonna try. “I believe.”
Then I waited. A moment went by but nothing happened. I waited another minute and still there was no Shadow to fetch me. From out in the forest a dark purple smoke was cascading towards the town. I knew that. It was magic. “Of, fucking, course.”
I slammed the window shut again as the smoke reached the house and filtered in. I was blinded for a moment but just a moment before the smoke was gone. Magic is here. I don’t know how it happened but if Rumplestiltskin was here then I was positive it was him that did it.
Maybe with magic here now, I might be heard. I opened the window again and stared up at the cloudy sky. “I believe.” I stressed once more but like the first time nothing happened.
Okay. This...this is fine. It probably doesn’t work during the day since I can’t see the star. Not a problem, I can wait till tonight. I’ve been gone for a couple decades, what more was a few more hours? In the meantime I had some things I could sort out.
“Marigold--” my fake mom caught me leaving.
“Shut it, I have places to be old lady.” I rushed out of the house.
I was walking down mainstreet when an alarming thought popped into my head. My club. It had disappeared during the curse.
Rumplestiltskin. If anyone had it it was him. And I know exactly where he would keep it. I stomped towards the pawnshop and threw open the door. He wasn’t here. Probably for the best, if I saw that slimy little imp before I left I was going to slit his neck.
I saw my club resting along the wall next to some walking sticks. I was about to leave when something else caught my eye. Resting with some other antique looking knives in a glass case was my dagger. The one Rumplestiltskin had taken from me. I opened it and wrapped my hand around the worn leather grip. Was there anything else of mine in here? I scavenged around and found the cuff Peter had given me with the decorative amber. My dagger on my hip, club in hand and cuff on my wrist I was feeling more like my old self.
Now I was truly ready to go home. I left the shop and meandered down the street. I was going to go hang out in the woods until nightfall and try calling for the shadow again. As I was leaving the shop I saw a group heading down the street followed by an angry mob. I was content to let them go and do their thing when I noticed Henry among the group. A memory came back, a picture of a boy drawn on a piece of old parchment. The Truest Believer. It was Henry!
Looks like I’m going to be taking someone else with me to Neverland. First I had to get him away from the group.
I followed after the mob. The little party of heroes stopped Regina from getting herself killed and took her into custody. After they left the jail they started to talk about what they were gonna do with Henry. Now was my chance.
“Hey,” I approached the group, “I don’t think you guys really know me.”
“Hi Marigold,” Henry waved at me, “Do you remember who you are?”
“Yes I do. Looks like you were right, Henry.” I faked an overly sweet smile.
I liked Henry well enough and after being his babysitter for the past eleven years I had grown kinda fond of him. It would be hard handing him over to Peter after getting to know him but in the end he was just another means to an end and what can save Peter’s life. If he’s still alive.
“Who are you?” David, Prince Charming, whatever, asked me.
“Y/N. I was Henry’s babysitter, am still, I don’t know anymore.” I shrugged.
“Right,” Emma pointed at me, “You uh...you wanna make a couple more bucks and watch him while we figure out what we’re gonna do with Regina?”
“I can, no problem. Also you don’t need to pay me. This little dork was right and now I remember who I am and can be with my family again.” I ruffled Henry’s hair, “That’s all the payment I need.”
“Okay. Just to be safe we’re gonna send Ruby with you.” Snow White/Mary Margaret gestured to Ruby.
I knew it couldn’t be that easy. “Alright. Sounds like a plan.” Henry and I got into the car with Ruby.
We drove in leisure until a tremor shook the ground and the sky went dark. Something was out there. Something bad. I rolled down the window and saw a black mass streaking across the sky. For a moment I smiled thinking it was Peter’s shadow but it was quickly dashed. It was too big and it sent an unpleasant chill down my spine. A wraith.
“Where are we going?” I asked Ruby.
“Edge of town. No one out that way.”
“Is that really the safest option right now? Out in the open?”
“What do you suggest then?”
“Somewhere inside. That thing that went across the sky was a wraith. Probably sent to kill Regina.”
“What?!” Henry looked rightfully alarmed.
“How do you--”
“I’ve seen a lot of things.” Living with Peter you learned a lot about dark magical artifacts and beasts.
“We have to go back!” Henry pleaded, “We have to help my mom!”
“No! I need to keep you safe!” Ruby snapped.
“We should really turn back. I know how to get rid of the wraith.”
“Where did you learn to get rid of a wraith?”
“Long story.” Also incredibly fictional but if it could get us inside I didn’t care. I didn’t know much about wraiths outside of what they looked like and what they did but I did know it would only attack the one it marked. That most likely being Regina.
With a little more arguing and pleading Ruby turned us around. We hustled into city hall. There was some loud commotion coming from the main hall. As quickly as it started though it ended followed by stark silence. Carefully we walked toward the hall. There was some muffled shouting and then we came upon the scene.
Regina was alive and currently had David restrained against the wall. Certainly not what I had imagined. “Mom!” Henry rushed in.
“Henry, what are you doing here?” Regina left David alone and he dropped to the ground. Ruby went to check on him while I stayed with Henry.
Apparently Emma and Mary Margaret fell through a portal to someplace unknown. Henry started to tear up as he told Regina to get them back and to stay away from him until they were safe.
“Where will you go?” Regina knelt closer to her son.
“With me,” David had recovered and stood up. Henry, Ruby and him left while I stayed behind.
“Regina…” I turned to her after they were gone.
“What do you want?”
“I’ll keep an eye on him. I promise.”
“Who are you?” she scoffed, “Why aren’t you scared of me? I’m the Evil Queen.”
I felt like laughing. “Regina, I’m not from the Enchanted Forest. I was visiting it when I got sucked into your curse. I don’t know you, I don’t care about what your motivations are or who you want to kill. But I do know Henry. I’ll keep him safe.”
“How are you going to protect my son?”
I spun my club in hand, “Let’s just say, I’ve had to get myself out a worse scrapes than deadly wraiths and angry crowds. If you want someone to talk to my number is still on the fridge.”
I left. This was going to take more time than I thought. I need to play my cards right. If I can then I’ll have Henry and be on my way to Neverland in no time.
Outside I stared up at the sky. Second star to the right… “I’ll be home soon, Peter.”
