--------
Trevor and Pete hunched over Sam’s laptop while Trevor typed his name into “Spotify.” Pete had overheard Sam mention “crime podcasts” to Jay and, with some further pressing, learned they were similar to the radio show she had done on Alberta’s murder. Pete had gone to Trevor while Sam and Jay were gone for the afternoon and proposed finding a podcast about Trevor’s disappearance.
The others were off dealing with some drama surrounding Isaac and how he said something to Alberta. Pete and Trevor were not interested in seeing how that would play out and instead wanted to see what an internet radio host would have to say about Trevor.
It had taken Trevor some time to type his name in and click on a podcast, but he had finally managed, and the two sat on the couch in the library to listen.
The two intertwined their hands as the radio host's voice gave the listeners a warm welcome and dove into a recap of her own life before getting into what she could find out about Trevor.
Pete watched Trevor as the host dove into a criticism of “finance bros” and how “douchey” they tended to be. She had a lot to say about things that didn’t have to do with Trevor but rather his career choice and social circles.
Trevor huffed and sunk into the couch.
“She doesn’t know what she’s talking about,” Pete said, “She didn’t even know three things about you.”
“It’s fine,” Trevor mumbled.
The host gave her account of what happened the night Trevor disappeared. She mentioned recent news of Trevor’s body being exhumed from the lake and theorized foul play by his friends.
Trevor stormed out of the library. Pete followed Trevor up to his room.
Trevor sulked by the window, crossing his arms and staring out. Pete stood by Trevor. He put his hand on Trevor’s arm and gave Trevor a squeeze.
“Hey, Trev,” he said softly, “I’m sorry for suggesting we listen to that. I had no idea she would be so insensitive. I mean, who talks about a dead man like that?”
“It’s fine, Pete. You didn’t know,” Trevor said. His voice was just so pitiful.
Pete pulled Trevor into a hug, he rubbed Trevor’s back, and Trevor buried his face in his chest.
“She just doesn’t know how amazing you truly are,” Pete whispered, “How good of a friend you are, how kind of a heart you have, how you care for others.”
Trevor sniffled and held onto Pete’s back.
“She isn’t lucky enough to have you in her life,” he continued, “She doesn’t know how lucky I am to call you mine.”
Pete tilted his head down and kissed Trevor’s forehead.
Trevor pulled away. He wiped his face with the back of his hands.
“Thank you, Pete,” Trevor said, “I didn’t think it would be so hard to hear someone talk about my death,” Trevor kissed Pete’s cheek, “You always know what to say to make me feel better.”
