Most of these Bryce (or similar) renders come from the same source: a collective, worldbuilding project called Orion's Arm, that started in 2000 (hence the aesthetic) and is still active today!

Welcome to Orion's Arm, a scenario set thousands of years in the future where civilization spans the stars. Godlike ascended intelligences rule vast interstellar empires, and lesser factions seek to carve out their own dominions through intrigue and conquest. Out beyond the edge of civilized space and the human-friendly worlds, adventure awaits those prepared to risk all.

This also reminds us that these renders have authors, and the creator of the picture above is a certain Keith Wigdor, born in 1965 and still active today (cw: NFTs).

Galliano - "Freefall (Peshay Vocal Mix)" Science Fiction Jazz - Volume Two by Minus 8 Song released in 1996. Compilation released in 1997. Drum n Bass

It's a full-on mid-90s London affair here, with dnb workhorse Peshay remixing acid jazz group Galliano. This song was first issued in 1996 on a Galliano single called "Roofing Tiles," and then it appeared the following year on the second installment of Swiss DJ and musician Minus 8's well-compiled Science Fiction Jazz series.

Really nice and spacious tune that sees Peshay's dnb contributions complementing Galliano's acid jazz bits, from the flute to the mellow keys to the guitar.

1999 Drum & Bass

[Part 5 of a five part series where I’ll go chronologically thru every full-length single-artist dnb LP from 95-99 that I can find. Only including records where a majority of tracks are basically within the genre and new material. No remix albums, No VA compilations, No trip hop records with one dnb track, etc.]

At the end of the millenium, we get a variety of dnb releases from jazz to jump-up that will largely define the genre’s crystallization in the 2000’s. Longtime scene contributors Ray Keith, Peshay, Technical Itch, and Source Direct put out their first full-length collections. Vocal tunes seem to be en vogue, most notably with Saul Williams performing on Krust’s masterpiece Coded Language. A trio of Andy C, Ant Miles, and Shimon bring the heat on Molten Beats, the first Ram Records release. Big Bud melds hard 2 step beats with deep atmospheres on the popular Infinity + Infinity. Guardians of Dalliance and Alpha Omega both write tunes in 5/4. Fallen Angels and XRS Land provide early examples of the liquid funk sound, with XRS drawing heavily from samba and Brazilian jazz. From every corner of the dancefloor the tension builds toward the ultimate drop: y2k.

(tried to sort them into categories - first and third are different flavors of math rock, second is jrock bands, fourth is more general alternative rock)

For a super bonus hard round, if i had more space i'd have done 2 morr, a dedicated Ambient Jungle/Intelligent DnB column of Peshay, Blu Mar Ten, Shogun, and Wax Doctor, and a more "sillycore" Alternative section with (OLD PRE-2012) Beck, Presidents of the United States of America, Cake, and Braid!
