Who knew that this “side project” called Peryton would become my career? Well — me, eventually. ______ The truth is that I have always known I was meant for more creative endeavors than the path I chose at age 21 when I started looking into law school. Law school was the safe path that became THE path by default (once you study something for three years — after four years of college — and you take out all those student loans — well, somebody has to pay off those loans and put those years of study to good use!) ______ After putting in a good long time at my first career, here’s the thing I learned the hard way: If you are unable to wake up pretty much every day and find a reason to say : “I love my job”, then you have to transform your situation. Even if it’s only a little bit every day. That daily effort to move in a different direction adds up over time. Years fly by faster than you think! ______ I used to think slogging away at something that didn’t make me happy was a sign of true grit. Not necessarily so. It can be a sign of fear — fear of change. Or anxiety about money or what others may think about you if you do the “crazy” thing you want to do. Or just a sense of loss for the years you put into the wrong path. ______ By the way, it’s not as if developing Peryton is, or has been, easy! This is one of the hardest things I’ve done. To develop a brand today’s crowded market is no joke. ——- But better to put your energy into endeavors about which you feel passionate than into things that are based on fear, anxiety or a sense of loss. ______ Sorry about that soapbox moment.
