Understanding butters is the hardest thing a sp fan can do
#really love the point saying he doesnt care about the damage he does when he gets caught never thought abt it#iiiiii think there are two question for butters as character 1) is he a good person? and 2) is he truly innocent?#the 1) is kinda of giant mess to answer and so i thought it was 2) before listening to some m&t commentaries#by their POV from what i get#the idea of 'childish innocence' is a destructive and self-destructive force#an 'innocent child' is able to commit any kind of moral failing (bullying ecc) because no adult has teached him human decency and morality#at same time an 'innocent child' is often blind to the abuse they may suffer because they can't recognize what even is abuse in first place#when they said that 'we are all born bad it's adults society that shapes us into better people' they meant that in the sense that#no child is geniunely born good or evil it's up to the people around him to shape who he will become#an 'innocent child' costantly shielded by the evils of the worlds is less likely to understand them#and will become part of them. being a victim of them and/or a perpetrator#and i think butters is the PERFECT example of that mentality#butters' own ep is all about how butters' innocence almost gets him killed by his mother because he couldn't recognize the danger#but also how his innocence detroyed his family by revealing his father's secret when he should hid it instead#in the larger scheme butters' innocence is his ruin not only because he doesn't understand when ideas or people are bad for him#like his parents or cartman but not just them#but his ignorance makes him see those behaviours as the “right ones' to adopt because he cannot see the true evil in them#perpetuating the cycle of abuse (granted he's still faaaaaaar from being just as bad but you get it)#like. butters is just like sun wukong. idk hope this makes sense#butts#meta
