Plant nursery starting inventory?

Plant nursery starting inventory?
My plan is to start a small plant nursery from my home this year. My main reason for starting this business is to be able to acquire and clone some of the hard-to-get varieties of different plants. I’m trying to wrap my head around how to manage to bootstrap the startup without wasting a bunch of money/effort. I guess step 1 is to build my inventory but how do I know how much to grow and acquire the funds as I haven’t sold anything yet, let alone have a functioning website to sell the plants in. Plus the plants might take a long time to develop If I’m cloning them from scratch so it makes it hard to do pre-orders at this stage.
Do I just buy whatever I can, clone those and have a website selling only 5 plants after a year? I wouldn’t buy from that and I wouldn’t expect any other gardener to either…

Are startup still seen as a good way to start a business nowadays?

Are startup still seen as a good way to start a business nowadays?
I’m reading Paul Graham’s very insightful essays about startups on his website: http://www.paulgraham.com
This stuff was written a decade ago on average. So I was wondering if it’s still applicable today?
Startups used to be the rage, they used to be glorified. It was all about growth, all about creating value for the user before even thinking about how turning it into revenue.
Now that I’m actually considering starting a business, I wonder how much of this stuff is still applicable, or even considered a good practice.
On this sub, I hear more advice about knowing exactly how you’re going to make money before putting too much effort into a project.

Localcasestudies house cleaning business model the best?
Last year I researched the shit out of LCS cleaning business’s model. Is it called launch27? Where clients book and you pass the work onto employees. Is this viable? Or should I go into the commercial cleaning sector and do the work myself?
I can’t decide which one would be better

Hi Entrepreneurs: I created a Geolocation Social Network where users can mark the personality group of their city/region around a map. Maybe you can create local entrepreneur groups in your region. Link in the description !
App Links Below (Only Android for now, I’m waiting on Apple to approve the iOS version, will update here when they do):
LINK TO PLAY STORE: [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.orbis.orbis](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.orbis.orbis)
Thanks for taking the time to read this. As described I created a map based social networking app for Android
This is the home page: [https://imgur.com/kRFbKX7](https://imgur.com/kRFbKX7)
Works like this, you download the app, share your location and then signup (you can use it w/o signing up but since I just published it that probably won’t be very useful around your region). After signing up you create a group or join an existing one.
Example of your screen once you join a group after signing up: [https://imgur.com/lA7Maiz](https://imgur.com/lA7Maiz)
Once you create/join a group you can checkin by pressing the button with the location symbol on the home page which is also the map view. This will prompt google to fill up the nearby places around you, you can also do a GPS checkin or create a place you don’t find on the list.
Example of places to checkin: [https://imgur.com/4dBmIQn](https://imgur.com/4dBmIQn)
Once you checkin to a place with your group, this will bring you to the map view where you will see the circle with the symbol of your group show up spinning around the place where you just checkedin at.
Example of circle on the map: [https://imgur.com/f66aC8c](https://imgur.com/f66aC8c)
This will also automatically create a place page for the place where you checkedin , you can see that by clicking on the recently created circle.
Place Page: [https://imgur.com/Xy6o1tO](https://imgur.com/Xy6o1tO)
This circle on the map marks the territory of your group. If there is more checkins on this place, the circle will inflate, and if days go by without anyone checking in that place, the circle will deflate until it dissapears. If other groups checkin and create group circles around your circle and those touch, the oldest circle deflates upon touching, so it’s like a competition for territory in this sense. Groups also compete to have the most checkins on a place and therefore “conquer” them, this can be seen on the place page where the group that is place owner has the majority percentage of frequency.
The groups you join/create have a full suite of features like newsfeed (so you can post photos, text & videos), places owned by the group, calendar of events, members. You can check it out by clicking on the group name.
If my explanation confuses you a bit I’m sorry. But the app in itself is very simple and the UI is very minimalistic, there aren’t many users now b/c I just launched but please check it out for yourself and be my first users!:
**Why I am doing this ?**
I have been very inspired by old maps I’ve seen on map related subreddits like /r/ MapPorn, specially a map called [Orbis Terrarum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theatrum_Orbis_Terrarum), which is considered the first modern atlas, in homage of this map, I named my app Orbis. 😉
From a philosophical perspective. I believe there is a secret map of society that is composed of personality groups that are in and around a city/region, everyone knows where certain groups hang out on their city/region, but this is not very well defined, I hope this tool can help create this understanding and hopefully become some sort of modern compass of the personality tribes of the now. I hope this app can bring the same sense of wanderlust that a person from the 15th century would get from looking at an old map of the world and imagine the undiscovered misteries out there. I try to replicate this feeling and bring it to a more local level in app format.
I just published recently, so if you find any bugs please let me know and try to reboot the app (usually rebooting the app works out many bugs).
Try to go through the whole experience of creating a group and checking in so you can understand the concept. I have facebook & twitter connect but if you are privacy sensitive, you can login with pseudonim and an email (sort of how reddit has it’s signup process)
All in all, thanks for reading it this far and let me know what you think. I will be reading the comments and suggestions here.

Is dropshipping really that bad?

Is dropshipping really that bad?
I’ve been planing to start my own dropshipping business for the last 2 months. Already made a plan, the market research and I’m in the process of contacting suppliers to see which one is able to provide the better service for my idea, however I’ve noticed that a lot of people mock the idea of investing in dropshipping and it makes me wonder: Is there something I need to know about this gig before committing to it 100%?, Why is it seen like a bad idea in the entrepreneur community?, and what are other low budget ideas to start a business that might substitute this one?.

What are your qualifications for social media influencers?

What are your qualifications for social media influencers?
My company is slowly growing it’s presence on Instagram (just over 600 followers) but we’ve recently had a couple of people reach out to us about partnering with us to promote our brand. I was thinking it would be worth having some qualifications to meet, but I’m curious what you or other businesses you know use to determine who can/can’t be an influencer for you. I’m looking for things like applications, objective qualifications, etc.
Also, if you have any specific recommendations for my company, it would be much appreciated. It’s a Christian apparel company, so I definitely want to partner with people who engage with our niche, but I’d love to get some other suggestions as well.

Intellectual Property Question-

Intellectual Property Question-
Hello! I have been searching for an answer to this all over the internet, but can’t seem to find any clarity.
I am developing a few tshirts as an experimental side hustle- (I know I know i KNOW- it’s so cliche)… but here goes- there was a very popular tv show in the late 90s- early 2000s where a popular character sometimes wore vintage clothes and t-shirts.
I know from old interviews that the t-shirts were even older and from a thrifted/ vintage collection of the show’s wardrobe designer.
I would like to re-create these shirts as super fans would appreciate the subtle nod to this series without being overtly noticeable.
I would do all of the design myself based on screenshots, so they would have an element of originality. Each model I would name by the Season and episode of the show where an item appears (ex: S03Ep04 etc.) and the name of the brand is a play on words/spoof of the original series name.
Any red flags? I would be utilizing an on demand screen printer and obviously if you get a C&D letter then C&D, but since this is all pretty obscure references to 20 year old tv series I am wondering how to make sure I am on the up and up from the get go. I would obviously like to use the screen shots on the web site as references, and the series name and character names in the SEO, what do I need to know? Thanks for any help!

Woodworker/furniture maker looking for ideas on how to reach more customers
New Post has been published on https://www.myonlineincome.info/woodworkerfurniture-maker-looking-for-ideas-on-how-to-reach-more-customers/
Woodworker/furniture maker looking for ideas on how to reach more customers
I build custom modern furniture and large scale wooden wall art, as well as signage and fixtures for stores. Past clients range from individuals who purchase tables, dressers, beds, etc, interior designers who spec my work for their clients (or custom work for their clients), and larger corporate clients like Dell, Snapchat, google, Etsy, Facebook, and Peet’s coffee, who I’ve made furniture and art for.
Looking for creative ideas and suggestions to reach more customers.
I have an Instagram presence but followers are only about 2500. I post works in progress and finished products and the people that see my work seem to appreciate and like it. I could stand to learn more about IG and how to interact more with the community. I’m pretty modest but I’ll say I do create good work. I don’t understand how some accounts who make some objectively inferior work have 100k+ followers. Maybe that’s part of my problem.
Have website. Don’t know a lick about SEO and don’t advertise.
I’ll sometimes post on local Craigslist that I make custom furniture and have received a lot of inquiries from that, and some work has materialized from posting there.
I think reaching out to more interior designers and art buyers will be a good approach, since those people are essentially out there as somewhat of a sales force for me. They’re going about their own business and they’ll sometimes pull me in to make things for their clients.
I also think the franchise angle has potential, a la Peet’s coffee. Find 5 more companies like them and be their guy for signage and store fixtures. But not sure how to get in. I had a personal connection and in with Peet’s, and their corporate office is about 10 miles from my shop, so prototypes and meetings were easy.
I have this portfolio of seemingly impressive clients but I just do okay as a one man shop. I feel like I should be doing better. Especially in this economy and in the Bay Area.
Suppose I’m trying to focus my energy in 2019. I’ve been a jack of all trade within woodworking, and while I enjoy making custom furniture, it’s hard to compete with the big companies that outsource. As a one man shop I can likely make the most income by mass producing items like singable and fixtures for larger companies. I’m in a moment of trying to find my path.
Looking for creative ideas if you have them, and I appreciate your input.

Small business owner buried in lack of accounting
New Post has been published on https://www.myonlineincome.info/small-business-owner-buried-in-lack-of-accounting/
Small business owner buried in lack of accounting
Hi I’m the owner of two small businesses. Both of which I’ve done zero accounting for in the 3 years of operating the first business and 1 year for the second business. I’m currently trying to figure out the best way to input data and get everything recorded and then go about getting above board. For whatever it’s worth, I’m based out of California.
The first business is a repair service. I have paper invoices for every job I’ve done. It’s very simple in that I repair wheels for car dealerships and charge $65/per wheel.
The second is a simple mattress sales business by appointment based out of a warehouse. I have invoices recorded on paper with the total. However the price includes sales tax and a $10.50 recycling fee per every mattress and box spring sold and there’s no break down recorded, just the grand total. So I need a system that can reverse that and sort it.
I’m trying to find out what the best way is to go forward with good accounting as well as the best way to get everything rectified. I got here because accounting stresses me out. And now I’m so stressed by not knowing what I owe or how deep my hole is that I’m either going to fix this and learn or burn everything down and move to another country. And since I’m married and have a kid as well as my family all live in the USA I’d like to take a stab at fixing all this. Ideally I’d find someone to pay and have them fix all this. But I’d like to learn the basics and see if I can’t get comfortable enough with this to do it all myself going forward.
Tl,dr born entrepreneur never took the time to learn accounting, didn’t account and now wants help fixing his shit.

Job ending on the 31st, need ideas

Job ending on the 31st, need ideas
As the title states, my current job is ending on the 31st. I am looking for things to build that will create / supplement income for when the time comes. My wife and I currently have a retail arbitrage business on eBay that makes a few hundred a month, and we also recently started making candles to sell on Etsy. As they currently stand, this would most likely provide about 5-700 monthly. Obviously we need a lot more to pay the bills and mortgage. I have tried dropshipping but have been unsuccessful, and I am also looking into gig jobs such as uber eats. I am doing applications daily and reaching out to my network for referrals as well. Either way, I need to pay the bills but I would love to take this opportunity to finally get something productive up and running. Looking for ideas and open to different solutions.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

To All the People Experienced with Facebook Ads

To All the People Experienced with Facebook Ads
Myself and a college friend recently decided to use some of the marketing knowledge from our majors, and create a digital marketing company, focused only on Facebook.
We just got our first client earlier this week and plan to start running ads at the start of next week. I have a small bit of experience running ads for my family’s business so I was already familiar with the basic ads UI.
I know that a lot of the marketing classes I took in college probably do not apply to what I am doing now, so I just have a question to people experienced in Facebook ads – what advice could you give two newbie girls?
So far we have watched almost every video on youtube about FB ads, have read some books, etc. We don’t plan on buying any courses as a lot of people say much of that information is public knowledge and free anyway.
We both know already the most important thing is to test, test and test some more, and that it’s going to take us some time to really master the ads but we are ready for it!
What advice would you give to yourself starting out if you could?
We’ll really appreciate any replies 🙂

Help Me? I'm feeling lost
New Post has been published on http://www.myonlineincome.info/help-me-im-feeling-lost/
Help Me? I'm feeling lost
I am opening a service based business and i’m having trouble deciding where I would like to open.
I was living in Phoenix, AZ where cost of living is very cheap and business regulations are fairly lenient and easy going.
I have been temporarily living in San Diego, CA (and I love it so much here). The beaches, the weather, the people, everything. I love the quality of life here compared to Phoenix.
Now my concern is that i’m caught between two things. I don’t know where I want to open my business. My mind says go to Phoenix because its way easier to startup and cost of living is cheaper. But deep down I feel like I would way rather live in San Diego. My only reason I hesitate is because I’ve heard California is a horrible state to conduct business in.
Unfortunately I will be location dependent wherever I decide to open up my business.
**If I were to startup a business in California instead of in Phoenix, what are some additional costs I’ll need to plan for? What does the future look like for business owners in California? How are the taxes compared to Arizona? What should I know that could help me make my decision?**
If I took business out of the equation, I would decide to live in San Diego hands down.
