Look Ma, I’m on the Telly! 🙈 Truth is I’m bloody camera shy and absolutely hate being in the spotlight 😅 But when @the_crucible sent out a call for BIPOC scholarship artists to be featured on ABC News @abc7newsbayarea for their upcoming #GIFTY event I knew I had to put myself out there - despite my fears. It’s Dragon Boat Festival 端午节 and I’m bloody homesick so we made #nyonyabakchang a Peranakan rice dumpling filled with pork belly, chestnuts +. While other cultures have their version of rice dumpling to celebrate today, what makes Nyonya Bak Zhang different is the use of winter melon candy, pandan leaves and bunga telang flowers that gives it’s natural blue color. Which is often used in many of our food particularly desserts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bunga Telang is also known as Clitoria ternatea, commonly known as Asian pigeonwings, bluebellvine, blue pea, butterfly pea, cordofan pea and Darwin pea. The flowers of this vine were imagined to have the shape of human female genitals, hence the Latin name of the genus "Clitoria", from "clitoris".
