Parring: Steve Rogers x Female! Reader Fandom: MCU Summary: Y/N is an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and she gets assigned to the case of Steve Rogers who was recently find in ice. She is responsible of teaching him how to live in the modern world. Long story short, Steve and Y/N get attached and she’s being sent away. "Are you sure, Fury? It doesn't sound like a good idea to me." "Easy, Y/N, it's going to be alright. I'm sure you're the right person for the job. The most suitable one, if I'm being honest." "You know that my father is going to be against it, right? He never wanted me to work for S.H.I.E.L.D., and here I am. What's he going to say about this job?" "Leave your father to me. Now, go and check on our guest. He slept enough." "I'm not gonna dress up as a nurse. Forget it. I'm going to wait for him to wake up and only when he wakes up I can work." "Fine. We will wait till he's ready to know the truth." "You have my number. Call me when he's ready. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have plans with my dad." "Say hi to him from me." "You know I won't." "Worth a try." *** *a few days later* He was running. Trying to get away from this nightmare as far as possible. What had happened to the world? Where was he? Was he still dreaming? Is that how hell looks like? Suddenly, he found himself in the middle of the street. Weird looking cars were honking at him. Weird dressed people were looking at him. Weird buildings were surrounding him. Everything, that has surrounded him, seemed a bit off. This place didn't look like he remembered it. But this place seemed familiar in some weird kind of way. He looked away from skyscrapers and shining billboards. He saw a black car rushing towards him. It looked as if the driver wasn't going to stop. It was closer. Closer. Closer. He closed his eyes, not being able to move a bit. But then he heard screeching of tires. He opened his eyes. The car stopped right before him. Someone opened the back door. He looked that way. He saw a black heel first. Then the other. He looked up. Tight jeans. Up. White shirt and a blazer. Up. Y/H/L Y/H/C hair. Up. Black sunglasses. Black painted nails reached up and took the sunglasses off. He was met with Y/E/C eyes looking at him as if he was some kind of an exhibition and the women before him didn't like it at all. She pursed her lips and looked him up and down. "Hello, Captain Rogers," she said, not moving a bit "You're causing quite a scene, aren't you?" "Who are you? Where am I? What happened here?" he asked, hoping that she would have all the answers. "Easy there. Let's go and I'll explain everything." she pointed at the car and Captain Rogers hesitated for a minute. On the one hand, she was a total stranger to him. But on the other hand, she seemed to have answers he desperately needed. She was already in the car, waiting for him to join her. "Are you going or not? I don't have a whole day." He followed her. He sat beside her on the backseat of the black car. He was silent for a while, the car was rushing down the street. "Who are you?" asked he. "I'm agent Y/N. I work for S.H.I.E.L.D. and I am here to help you get accustomed to the new world." "What is S.H.I.E.L.D.?" "Can you please be quiet till we get to the place? It was really hard to find you and I've already listened to my angry boss yelling at me for not taking care of you when you were sleeping, even though it wasn't my job. So, please, Captain Rogers, with all the respect, shut up, wait, and think about other questions you may have for me, okay?" "Fine." The whole ride lasted more than ten minutes. Agent Y/N was typing something in her phone and Captain Rogers was looking at her actions, fascinated. At the same time, he was thinking about all the possible questions he might have. The car stopped. Y/N get out of the car so Captain Rogers took it as a clue and got out himself. She was already in the building, not waiting for him to catch up. She just assumed he would follow. They got to the third floor and she opened the door for him. He knew the building. He knew the place. It seemed like he even knew the apartment. "Welcome home, Captain Rogers. You were living in that building before the war so we thought it might be good for you to live here again. Of course, if you have any objections, don't hesitate to tell me. They changed some things around here so it would look a little more modern. Care for a cup of coffee?" "It would be nice, thank you, ma'am." Agent Y/N went to the kitchen to prepare the coffee. In the meanwhile, Captain Rogers was looking around the apartment. He lived here with his mother before he signed up to the war. She used to make pancakes every Sunday morning. Steve felt as if he was back home again. The only difference around here were the pieces of furniture and the women in his kitchen making coffee. But all the family photos seemed to have been in the right place. Agent Y/N came back to the living room and placed two cups of coffee on the table. She sat on the couch and waited for him to join her. "I will start with the basic facts, fine? When I'm finished you might ask the remained questions." "Okay." "Your name is Steve Rogers. You were born on July 4 1918. You enlisted in 1943 and you were recruited into the Strategic Scientific Reserve as part of a "super-soldier" experiment under Erskine. You infiltrated the fortress of Schmidt's Nazi division and rescued your friend James Barnes along with 400 other soldiers. You found out about the Tesseract. You were lost in the ocean since you landed in the middle of it with your plane. Very heroic, by the way." "I know all of these." "Well, I needed to learn this shit so you need to listen to it now. Captain Rogers, it's 2012.  You were asleep for almost 70 years. People thought you were dead. It's a miracle you're alive but taking under consideration the fact that you're a super-soldier, it shouldn't be that big of a surprise." "So you're saying that all the people I knew are dead now?" "Unfortunately yes, Captain Rogers. Although, there is one person who would like to see you after all these years. But we will go to her later. What else should I tell you? Damn, I was preparing this speech since I've learned that I was chosen for the job. Oh, basic info. S.H.I.E.L.D. is an acronym for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. We're a government organisation that was founded after WWII by Peggy Carter, Howard Stark, and Chester Phillips. I know you know these people but please, don't interrupt me" said Y/N when she saw that Steve was already opening his mouth to say something. "I am here to guide you. I will show you how to function in the modern world. I will teach you how to use modern technology. I will help you find a job. But after that, I'm gone for good and if everything goes right, we'll never see each other. Do you have any questions?" "Who won the war?" "The Allies." "The Tesseract?" "Gone. Noone found it." "Howard Stark?" "Dead, unfortunately. He had a son, though. They say he's a copy of his father." Y/N giggled to herself at that remark. "Pe-Peggy Carter?" "She's almost 91 now. We're going to visit her later." "91? That means I'm...93 now?" "Theoretically, yes. But you don't look 93, don't worry. Do you have any questions or shall we go and visit Agent Carter?" "Let's go." *** Y/N was helping Steve get accustomed to the new way of living. She taught him how to use a mobile phone, how to use a computer. Steve was really trying to learn but at the back of his head was this intrusive thought that he doesn't belong here, that he should have died there at the ocean. Peggy lived her life, she was happy. And what he was going to do now? He didn't have anyone here. Except for Y/N but she was going to disappear sooner or later. *** "Try to dial my number, Steve." "Fine, but it's not that easy as you think." "Just try." Phone ringing. "You did it! You really did it, Steve!" Y/N hugged him tightly and Steve blushed. But to be honest, he was pretty proud of himself too. *** "I don't have any friends, Y/N. I don't need this whole Facebook thing." "But you're going to meet new friends!" "What's your last name? I want to add you then." "We're not friends, yet." Y/N looked at him with a playful smile on her lips. "Then I don't need Facebook!" "Oh, shut up, I've already created your account." *** "Okay, so look, these films are the best ones, okay? If you don't like them, I will get the fuck out of here and never come back." "These films about a lilliput with a ring?" "He's a hobbit!" "Just play it." *** He was waiting for Y/N. She was teaching him for almost a year now and he was scared how fast this whole teaching thing had gone. He was hoping there are a lot of things he doesn't know because if S.H.I.E.L.D. says that he's ready to live in the modern world, he's not going to see Y/N anymore. And, let's be honest here, that was the best part of his day. She was the only person he knew he could trust. She made this whole "awakening in different timeline" thing better. She made it easier. At first, he thought he wasn't going to make it right. He thought she will be a pain on his ass. But in reality, she made him smile more, she made him laugh, she taught him how to live again. She taught him how to breathe again. There was a knock on the door. Steve rushed there and opened the door. At the sight of Y/N, he smiled brightly. But she wasn't holding two cups of coffee as usual. She only had one. "Steve" "Don't. Don't tell that." "I got your coffee on my way here." she gave him the coffee but she didn't step inside the apartment. "They said you should be fine now." "I'm not. There's a lot of things I don't know" Y/N gave him a piece of paper with a new name on it and a telephone number. "Here's your new guide. She will help you if you have any questions or problems." "And what about you? Why it can't be you?" "I'm being sent away for a mission. I don't know when and if I get back." "Please, don't go." Y/N went for the hug. She embraced him tightly. It wasn't tough only for Steve, it was tough also for her. She got used to him. He was a part of her day for almost a year now. It was hard to let him go. "I'm going to miss you, Captain Rogers" she pulled away and smiled at him. "You're gonna be fine, trust me. I've made a list of films you should watch when I'm away so we can discuss them when I come back" "Y/N..." "Steve, don't make this any harder than it already is." Y/N leaned in and cupped his cheek in her little hand. Steve looked her deep into the eyes. He couldn't look away. He wanted to say a lot of things but it seemed that he couldn't speak. Y/N leaned in a little closer. Steve looked at her lips, then at her eyes again. Y/N smiled shyly. She pecked his lips. It felt almost like a gust of wind. Like it wasn't a real kiss. Steve closed his eyes, not wanting to let her go. Because when he opens his eyes, it will be real. And now, he can live in that little fantasy of his. She kissed him lightly one more time. "Goodbye, Steve" she whispered and when Steve opened his eyes, he was alone.
