my whitegirl take is i think white people on here dismissing rap music about violence made by rappers from places with heavy gang violence, poverty, and that are constantly victimized by police brutality reminds me a LOT of white men like anthony fantano dismissing music by fiona apple and pj harvey etc for graphically talking about violence against women. like the common thread here is people with privilege are made uncomfortable by marginalized people talking about their own experiences. kendrick lamar is literally from compton lmao, his dad was a former gang hustler, and his family relied on food stamps growing up and was intermittently homeless. like if you think he’s “romanticizing violence” by rapping about his own experiences or that other black rap artists from similar backgrounds are doing the same you’re straight up a racist.
