Southern Infrastructure Megastructure Gothic
@eightyonekilograms, in a post about why levees and dikes won't save Florida from Sea Level Rise:
dams and levees won't work because southern Florida is a limestone sponge and the water will just come up through the ground— but with a trillion dollars of other people's money to spend, they'll figure out something. That's what real estate investors are banking on, and they are probably correct.
NOAA has a Sea Level Rise map, which you can jack all the way up to 10 feet above "Current Mean Higher High Water", and then scroll around the entire coastal United States to see what gets flooded.
Tumblr media
Pensacola is fine; they know what storm surge looks like from being in the splash-damage radius of every time New Orleans gets fucked.
Tumblr media
St. Pete/Clearwater loses its waterfront, but retains significant infrastructure inland.
Tumblr media
Naples and Cape Coral lose their entire downtowns, but the inland suburban sprawl survives. I guess they'll need to convert some of those tract houses into neighborhood-scale commercial.
Tumblr media
Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and indeed most of Miami-Date and Broward Counties are awash, and become the basis of new coral reefs for the Northern Florida Keys.
But West Palm Beach is okay.
Tumblr media
By Congressional mandate, NASA adapts the Cralwers to work as amphibious vechicles, in order to continue using Shuttle-derived hardware at Pad 39, with the new Sea Launch System rated to withstand salt spray inside the engine bells at launch.
SpaceX stops leasing in Texas, where South Padre Island is completely underwater, and buys up an entire subdivision's worth of now-island land in South Miami. The neighbors won't complain about concrete dust if there are no neighbors!
Tumblr media
Saint Augustine dies, but Jacksonville is like Pensacola, and picks up its skirts to avoid the puddles.
Trillions of dollars of dikes aren't the answer. The solution will be to jack everything up ten feet, from roads to ports to homes. If you can't adapt to life in a saline intertidal wash, you'll move inland.
No, the real issue will be whether they can build a seawall around DC's National Mall and National Airport that won't offend the sensitivities of climate-denying Congresscritters.

Pensacola Shuttle
If you are thinking about  shuttle transport in comparison to taking a cab, there are a couple of things you ought to think about.
Will your ride exceed a couple miles? Whenever you're riding more than 10 miles, an airport shuttle service will probably like your business, as this is generally where it is worthwhile for a shuttle to want your business and this is generally where there minimum miles starts at.
If you're traveling as part of a group it can sometimes be wiser to make a reservation with a shuttle as opposed to riding with a taxi cab. When reserving ahead of time, you can be assured that you and your group will be transported in the same vehicle. This would most likely be the preferred option over taking the chance that the airport taxi queue has a suitable vehicle. This way, you can pay one fare instead of having to pay multiple fares.
Although the choice to ride with a shuttle is frequently a economic decision, shuttles are more often chosen over taxis because of comfort or space issues. Many people that hire limos, often change to shuttles because all they truly require is an upgrade over a cab in terms of comfort. Airport shuttles are also much more practical if you are traveling with lots of luggage.
So what are a few of the disadvantages of hiring an airport shuttle? If you're utilizing a shared shuttle service, you are going to have to figure in additional time since you will be making other stops on. In contrast a private shuttle service, your ride will not be a direct one. Since a shared ride is available as a low budget alternative, you should not hope for a vehicle made for comfort, but on the contrary a utility looking vehicle.
The reason why most business travelers go with airport shuttle services, is they know that a shuttle company will more than likely take their  credit cards, whereas not all cab companies do. And unfortunately, not all taxi drivers will tell you in advance they will not. You frequently find out when you are  ready to pay the fare.

Saturday Flight-er Day
Fixin’ to migrate down South for the winter like all the other dang Yankees.
Mailed the majority of my winter civvies back home yesterday, got my whole-ass itinerary today and made my airport shuttle reservation.  Tomorrow I check out of CNATTU and do laundry, drink all my beer, and pack up my life.
I’m nowhere near as jittery as I have been in the past when traveling.  I guess ‘cause, although it’s been a while, I have flown before, but also having had to prep for a cross country train trip helped me better get used to the planning aspect and how to check the status of things and general train station/airport navigation.  I’ve looked up my airlines baggage policy and FUCK YEAH ALL MY BAGS R CHECKED 4 FREE!  So yeah, looks like I’ll just have to take the 3 electronics out of my carry-on so they can be scanned, tell TSA I got metal in my leg, and enjoy the prospect of being one step closer to going home (and shore duty).
It’s gonna be a long ass day though.  0740 shuttle to SEATAC for a 1355 flight (it’s a dang 3 hour trip including the ferry), but that’ll get me there about 1030 so I’ll have plenty of time to eat/go through security.  I’ll be by-passing O’Hare, which is good this time of year ‘cause weather bullshit, but I kinda wanted to harass talk with the new Sailors that fly in and out of there 24/7.  Also disappointed I won’t be having a layover in Atlanta because OMFG I NEED FALCONS MERCH.  Instead they got me stopping in Charlotte on the way back home.
But yeah.  Seattle to Pensacola via Dallas/Ft. Worth.
