Our Pets Deserve Our Love And Care - Always
Very few pet owners do not form a special bond with their animals, whether they are dogs and cats, horses or even some exotic animal. You love and cuddle them, you give them play and rest time, you feed them a proper diet and you regard them as another family member as we often see when we visit someone, or on FaceBook and Instagram.
Pets, in return, shower us with their love and loyalty – they will often protect their owners and loved ones and sacrifice their lives in some cases. All of this helps to cement a lifelong bond and love for one another. Therefore, when the pet is sick or unwell, the owner is equally upset and has to make sure the pet is afforded good medical care and special attention.
Therefore it is important to make sure we always know where to find the best veterinarians near us, also in emergency situations when the animal is not only unwell but injured or is great distress. Pet owners know – just like with children – immediately when their pet needs attention. Good vets are available in every city centre – often in small villages and towns too, whether you live in Los Angeles, Greeley Colorado or any centre, or nearby, where people keep pets such as puppies and kittens, or adult pets.
Some veterinary services may be geared only towards handling basic treatment whereas others are better able to offer pets and their owners a complete service. These are the vets that run a professional concern and offer you the services you may well expect form an animal hospital or animal clinic with those services to address all issues related to pets, right from diet and care to follow-up after surgeries. Of course one may want to compare and will therefore look out for, at the very least, the following detail, features and services:
A good reputation – nothing ever beats a   good name in any industry. You want to deal with knowledgeable,   experienced services, also the animal hospital and their vets and   administrative staff that are known to receive the best reports in the   region where you are. You want to know that they have been a successful   animal clinic for many years in the same area – 10, or 20 or 30 years or   more. Many years with a good reputation is always important;
Good facility – be sure to deal with a   vet that works from modern rooms and a great facility where animals can be   checked up, looked at when they are not well, a facility with modern   equipment such as, say, the latest x-ray machines and operating tools.   Make sure pets have a good place in the hospital to recuperate before you   take them home after a surgery, for example;
Be sure they offer   different services and capabilities that address the   total medical needs of pets. This should include the vaccinations your   puppy or kitten receives at a very young age, and also all future   vaccinations they need to thrive. Make sure your vets are experienced with   fairly common procedures such as neutering and spaying and dispensing of   medicines for sick animals. They must be able to take care of advanced   procedures such PennHIP to check for signs of problems with your dog, for   example, they must be able to pick up possible medical conditions early   enough to help stop these from developing;
A good vet can offer   you great information about diets for pets, the best exercise and how you   should provide space for them at your home. The vet should instil   confidence in owners that their pets are in good hands right from the time   they are babies and throughout their life.
Pet owners are well advised to contact those vets known in the region for always being available, for always offering friendly and professional advice, for being your pet’s friend.

Your Pet Deserves Great Treatment
Pets bring so much happiness and joy into our lives they almost become a family member – for many people like another child. They love us unconditionally and expect nothing back in return. But, everyone knows our cats, our dogs, our parrots, and other pets also deserve great treatment, much as we’d show a beloved family member. We give them a home, shelter, food, love, and protection, and we also have to make sure that they have access to the services of the vet – and the animal hospital or clinic – for routine checkups, for surgeries, and during those times that they are unwell.Â
The role of the vet in our pets’ lives can never be underestimated, just like we need to know where to find the best doctor, dentist, or hospital. In many small towns – and certainly in every big city – one finds that veterinarians are available to ensure the community’s pets are well and have access to good medical treatment when necessary. The good ones offer their services from modern rooms with good, state-of-the-art equipment, and they make sure that they always stay abreast of all the latest developments in their industry, also when it comes to diagnosing and treatment of clients’ pets. This is the least one expects.Â
But, you also want to know that you visit a knowledgeable, experienced, and compassionate vet that you and your animal can relate to. This is important; thereafter you want to know that their services are superior to others, their facility clean and modern, and their staff well trained to take care of any health and medical issues your pet may be experiencing.Â
A good animal hospital or clinic will offer a variety of services right from preventative care to surgeries. They will offer services to include regularly scheduled visits – generally speaking every 6 months and at least once a year – to make sure your pet is fit and healthy, that there are no signs of conditions that could be prevented or relieved with early treatment, that they receive their booster shots and that their disposition shows no signs of underlying conditions. Of course, this is one area only.Â
Treatment and medicines for ailments, injuries, surgeries to correct problems should also be taken seriously. This is often where the good vets and animal hospitals discern themselves from those that offer sub-standard service by less experienced personnel, for example. Make sure, before you need their services, that the vet of your choice is indeed highly spoken of in the community for their professionalism, their experience, and the success they achieve about, say, surgeries and helping pets back to good health.Â
Some of the services one would expect of a good animal hospital would include, among some, the following:
Offering thorough general checkups to make sure your pet is in good health;
Good, modern equipment such as x-ray machines, ultrasound scanners, and tools such as a speculum, nail clippers, and hoof grinders, ear syringes and any other piece of equipment to diagnose and treat;
Spaying and neutering for pets to prevent unwanted pregnancies; can even be done when your pet is still young and your preference for them is to not have babies;
Surgeries when they are injured, whether to their muscles, bone structure, or organs;
Wellness tests and Pennhip exams to test for dysplasia, for example, as well as OFA, tests to certify dogs’ hips. This is but one example of what a good vet may test for to help ensure your pet does not develop certain conditions;
An area where they can recuperate after medical procedures.
The above are examples of what one would expect to find at a good animal hospital or vet’s rooms so you can relax in the knowledge that your animal is in good hands.

Show Your Pets You Care - Always
There are very few cat and dog owners – and those of other pets – that do not form a strong bond of love, mutual respect and consideration with one another; therefore owners can be forgiven for referring to their pets as “children” or “fur babies, for example. Â
Owners look after their pets, feed them, offer them a home, protection and love, and in return the animal shows their appreciation with a lick in the face, on your hand, a wagging tail and the like. This is possible only when owners look after their pets if, indeed, they are treated like family members.
Therefore it goes beyond feeding and protecting them: appointments to the vet are scheduled, whether for those times that the pet is unwell, or for their annual or bi-annual check-up and booster shots, for surgeries such as neutering and spaying or for serious issues such as orthopedic  procedures – or any other situation that demands the vet’s attention.
This also refers to making sure your animal is always safe in its home environment, or when you take them out for their daily walk – or those times that you are absent from home, as can happen when you go on holiday or a business trip. This can be a trying time for both owner and animal.
Firstly, you want to know there is someone to look after the pet. Some owners get a house-sitter and pay them handsomely, but this is not everybody’s choice since it is quite a responsibility: not everyone gets along with another person’s pets and vice versa; therefore the answer, often, is to approach a specialized service such as, say, boarding kennels that are perfectly geared to make sure pets are safe, looked after, fed, given a place to sleep and rest – and some play time.
These services understand the needs of pets that belong to absentee owners and will make sure the animal is given enough space to move around, to play with other pets if it is properly socialized – or kept apart from others if it is a nervous animal - or one that simply prefers to be on its own and receive one-on-one attention. No two animals are necessarily alike and therefore owners – and carers – need to know how to handle every pet when the owner is not around.
Owners that know in advance that they will be out of town or on holiday, should always make sure – way before they leave on their trip – that their pet will be looked after until they return. Show your pets you care – always – by finding them a good place to stay during your absence so they are treasured, fed, given a home-away-from-home and that their well-being is not compromised.
In most urban areas there are choices for owners, and certainly some that will stand out above others. Owners should always consider what services specific kennels and catteries have available and then book the one that meets with their approval. Some issues to always consider are, among some:
Is there enough space for your animal to move around comfortably - also if you have more than one that you want to keep together, for example two dogs, or two cats, for that matter;
Are kennels and catteries clean at all times, including any blankets or other bedding that may be provided;
Are pets exercised daily, are they given their food under supervision? What about a pet that gets regular medication? Book your animal with a service that shows care and responsibility in this regard;
Will pets be groomed regularly, especially if you are absent for quite some time;
Does the facility you are considering for your pet’s stay, have agreements with vets in case your pet gets sick?
The above are some of the issues you might have to consider to ensure your pet is still happy and healthy on your return. Show pets you love them and care about them – also when you have to go away for a while.

Find The Best Kennels For Your Pets To Stay At During Your Absence
Pets are often extensions of ourselves, much like children and close family members are, and because we love and often need them in our lives, most of us will go to great trouble to ensure their safety and happiness – and the assurance that they are always cherished and looked after. Therefore we have them by our side for as many hours every day as is possible.Â
It does also happen that there are times when we will be separated from these pets, sometimes for a day or two only, and sometimes for much longer periods. Some of these separations are planned, others may happen because of unforeseen circumstances. Therefore it is advised to always keep a good kennel’s, or a pet boarding facility’s, contact details close by for those times that you are going to use such services.Â
Of course, research before time is important. Many people feel that the best place to start would be the vet they like and trust, the vet that they take their pets to all the time. He/she may be able to offer advice in this regard as they are often involved with kennels, care facilities for pets, and boarding services. Or ask other pet owners in your region whose opinion you value. Â
Let the vet or a friend advise you, then go and visit the facility to see if they meet your requirements and if they are indeed the best place for your cat or dog when you go away. Ask the facility that you feel best about, to allow you to visit before you book your animal in: you want a tour of the facility, you want to know they are the best place to take care of your pets and their needs. If they refuse a visit from you before you book, maybe it is best to avoid them.
Look out for certain issues when you tour the facility, such as: is it well lit and does it offer good ventilation, also temperature control. You do not want the pet to stay in cold or wet circumstances, or extremely hot conditions either.Â
Do they offer a place for your animals to socialize with other animals and humans, in other words, you want to know the pet is not locked up all the time with no interaction with others as this may cause nervous reactions, great separation anxiety and extreme distress for the pet.Â
Will, the pet is exercised as you normally do, will it be allowed to rest and sleep when it normally does at your home? Other issues that need to be addressed include issues such as diet: if it is agreed you provide the food, what does management do to ensure your pet is fed the correct food on time all the time?Â
You have to know what their policies are in terms of, for example, vaccinations. If they do not insist on vaccinations and your dog’s or cat’s medical information, you may want to reconsider as you mustn't expose your pet to other possibly sick pets.Â
Also, is bedding provided or must you do that? Are blankets washed regularly so the animals stay clean and free from, for example, urine? Make sure the facility offers vet services, as pets, as we know, can get sick at any time. Therefore talking to your vet about the best facilities remains a great idea as he/ she will know which facilities make sure they offer good services in this regard.Â
The above are some important issues to consider when you know you want a facility for your pet. There will be others too. Make sure you feel confident that your pet will be happy in your absence: find a great boarding facility for them.

Treat Your Pet Like You Treat Every Family Member
All pet owners understand that from the first moment they lay eyes on their new pup or kitten – or older animal that is re-homed for whatever reason - that a bond of love and mutual respect is quickly formed, a bond that lasts for the entire lifespan of the animal under your care.Â
This is a great responsibility, and therefore many pet owners, rightfully so, treat that pet as another family member that deserves to be loved, to be cherished and looked after, given safety and shelter, food – and medical care when and if required. But, it is not good enough to show care and offers medical services only at those times that the animal is unwell and suffers: preventative medical care is equally important.Â
So you take it for its first check-up when it is only a few weeks old so the little one and the vet form their important bond too. A good vet that bonds well with all those pets that come in for consultations and care is one you stay with. We choose a GP and stay with them if we trust and like them; the same should apply to you, your pet, and the vet of choice. The vet gets to know the pet, keeps its records, keeps track of its development, and is aware of any possible ailments they may be suffering from – or may be susceptible to in later years.
Therefore a regular visit should be scheduled as a routine visit every so often, say, every year unless the vet thinks the pet should see them more often. During these routine check-ups the vet will check the animal’s current health, how it responds to, for example, previous treatments - and also to check them for future problems.Â
One such example which is performed on dogs everywhere, in London, in Amsterdam, Los Angeles or Greely in Colorado concerns the so-called PennHip evaluation for signs of dysplasia which can be done on young dogs of even 4 months old as a first test to see if the dog suffers from hip looseness and maybe a future candidate for dysplasia, for example. This is often done as a preventative measure to make sure the vet picks up any early signs of possible future problems and illness.Â
The test assesses hips to make sure there are no signs of possible degenerative joint disease, and it also looks at the laxity in each of the joints. The test is an early method to predict the possibility of, for example, osteoarthritis developing later on and, if discovered early enough, there is a very good chance the vet can help prevent this by offering a procedure devised for this eventuality: it is called Juvenile Pubic Symphodiesis and is a great way to help prevent problems from developing later on.Â
Canine Hip Dysplasia (CHD) is one of the most common reasons for lameness in dogs’ hind legs and can, to a large extent, be avoided with early intervention, such as the PennHip consultation. It is a great service a pet owner can do for their young canine friends, much like humans go for mammograms and prostate check-ups to help prevent serious issues from developing in the future.Â
Of course, you want to know that for PennHip and other preventative measures you are employing the services of a well-respected vet that offers, preferably, years of service to animals, experience with all issues related to their health whether preventative or about surgeries and medicines, and a good name among community members.Â
Make sure you take your young dog for this test – and other preventative visits – so you offer your pet a good chance at a happy long life, much as we would go to the doctor to have ourselves checked regularly.

Know Where The Nearest Animal Hospital In Your Region Is
Animal lovers, pet owners, all know that their pet is an important figure in their life. All pets are important and cared for by loving owners, right from the tiny kitten or puppy to the adult and senior pet that lives a whole life under your roof.Â
Families and their children get used to the pet and its presence, its mannerisms, its unique personality, and yes, we know immediately when it is not feeling well. It may not want to eat, it looks sad and unhappy, or its coat has lost its shine, it cries or whimpers when we touch it – or it limps visibly. Of course, there are many more examples that your pet may be feeling unwell, and just like it is with your child, you look out for signs and make sure you take it to the vet the moment you suspect something is wrong with it.Â
This means that you need to know the vet you want to deal with in your area, that you know where their practice or clinic is, hospital if you wish. A good vet will offer a good modern facility where they can meet clients and their pets. You would expect them to be housed in a clean building with upscale facilities right from a decent front office to good consultation areas – and a proper operating theatre for those times that surgeries are necessary.
Also, you want to deal with a vet that stays abreast of the latest techniques, the latest equipment to be used during operations, or during X-rays, or when they test your animal’s ears and eyes – or during, say, PennHip evaluations for dysplasia, a condition that refers to an abnormal growth in tissue or organs, which may lead to cancer, for example.Â
A good vet will offer the pet and their owner every possible service to ensure the pet is treated well, is offered regular check-ups so that any illness may be picked up in time to save your animal’s life and to ensure that pets visit a clinic that is preferred above other similar facilities. You want to know that your vet offers different services for the well-being of pets in the community whether that is the spaying or neutering service, or the different surgeries to treat them under different circumstances.Â
Pets often need attention, much like humans. You want to know that your vet is available for booked consultations but also during emergencies when immediate intervention is called for when, say, it was attacked by another animal, or when a car hit it, or when it fell off the balcony. Of course, emergencies can happen at any time, and you need to know that your vet is available at their practice to take an emergency case.
Finding a great vet, and building a good relationship with them, happens when you are dealing with a recommended vet and his/her practice, one that is highly spoken of in the community by other pet owners. There are reasons why some vets are recommended in favor of others.Â
They offer more experience, they are known to show special care and they are happy to offer advice to owners about various issues, for example, your tiny kitten’s or puppy’s diet, or what an adult or senior pet should be fed. All of these issues may make it easier for the pet owner to decide whose services they will use when they need a vet or an animal hospital.Â
The same is true for ear cropping, for your dog’s dental care, for their inoculations. Choosing the best vet is not an automatic process: it means having to consider those qualities that you appreciate in an animal health care professional, one that you can rely on for the best attention. Once you have found the ideal vet, make sure you know how and where to reach them, whether for routine checkups or emergencies.
About Us: At Powell Veterinary Service we offer all pet owners almost 30 years of dedicated, unrivaled service to ensure their pets remain healthy and happy. We offer a great experience and are proud of the services we offer about all aspects of animal care. Looking after your Pet’s Diet is a Huge Responsibility
Pets are not only cute and lovable – they are also one of the biggest responsibilities in our lives the moment we commit to taking them into our homes. They are always cute when they’re very small, but as they grow older they change, much like humans and become less playful and huggable.Â
But, they are with us and we love them because we see them as an extension of the human family in our home. They deserve our love and our care, our protection and our loyalty. We provide for them in terms of a safe space, in terms of playing with them, taking them for exercise, making sure the vet is there for them when they are unwell – and we feed them.Â
Feeding is, just as it is for humans, important to keep them happy and healthy and generally well. Also, dogs and cats need to be fed according to their breed, their size, their age, and their general profile. It remains the owner’s responsibility to know what the best foods for their pet are, and to this end, one has to read up, talk to experts such as breeders, and the local vet. At the vet’s rooms, there will always be a vet, a nurse, an assistant with good information as to what one has to look out for when buying food for one’s animals. Let us consider some of the following points as a basic guideline:
Always choose high-quality foods, and when you’re out shopping make sure that you pay attention to labels. It is always a good piece of advice to look for a so-called complete feed, which information packaging often carries. It means that you choose the best food for the breed and its age.Â
Make sure you know what the ingredients are in the foods you buy for your pets. A well-balanced diet for dogs and cats should include, at least, a good source or two of protein. Also, mix it up: at times feed them chicken, at other times beef, for example. Remember too that younger pets may need more protein than an old pet that no longer grows or moves around a lot. Protein is especially good for muscle growth and keeping muscles strong and healthy.Â
Always look at serving size. Do not overfeed. It leads to obesity, a lazy animal and, often, to health issues. Talk to the vet or other experts to establish what the best serving sizes are according to the cat’s, or the dog’s, breed, age, and size. Babies need different food from those you feed to adults and seniors, as their needs are different. Younger pets need more protein, and older dogs, for example, may have to be fed foods that aid joint health, as an example. So, as they age, their diet must be adjusted, and the owner has to find out from the vet and others that specialize in animal health care – such as nutritionists – what the best diets for their pets are.Â
Treats – be careful. Our pets know how to tug at our heartstrings and make us feel guilty. Avoid the trap of feeding them too many treats as it is not always good for their health. Keep a healthy balance, and also remember it may not be a good thing to feed your animal what you eat, so do not get them used to eat from your table, whether those are scraps or the food you cook for you and your family. Pet food that you buy in pet health care shops – or from your vet – is specially formulated to ensure the best balance, and ultimately the animal’s health.

Taking Care of your Pets’ immediate Needs
People love their pets, and their cats and dogs often become an extension of who they are; the pets take their place alongside other family members since it is so easy to treat them the way we all expect to be treated – with love and respect.Â
Therefore pet owners offer their cats and dogs – and other pets – love, food, and shelter. Animals thrive when they receive attention, much like humans, and they deserve the best from their owners, also when they are sick or distressed. When there is a time one books an appointment with the vet or animal hospital, but at times first aid measures are called for.Â
Much like a child hits their foot against and object and starts bleeding, for example, there are those times that immediate intervention is needed with one’s pets too. At times accidents happen at home, but then there are those times that one may be traveling, or having a picnic at the river or out somewhere in the bush with the dog accompanying the owners.Â
Even though cats and dogs are different in many ways and do not always react in the same fashion when something unforeseen – such as an accident – happens, it is always a good idea to be prepared for all eventualities whether one’s sick or hurt pet is a cat or a dog. The first thing to remember would most likely be: have the vet’s contact details handy, either to take the pet to the clinic or speak to someone who can offer advice.
In addition to this, one should always carry a first-aid kit for pets since there are many occasions where this can help to offer comfort – even save the pet’s life. The following are practical suggestions as to what one keeps in the car, as well as in the house to be prepared at all times:Â
Bandages such as a roll of self-adhesive crepe;
Dressings to cover open wounds;
Cotton wool;
Sterile gauze;
Towels and scissors; water.
Few pet owners are trained on how to treat emergencies, but most would be able to, first of all, keep the pet calm, and if not, at least prevent being bitten by it since they are scared and need to be handled with care. If the pet allows the owner to do so, then certainly open wounds can be cleaned as much as possible, gauze and bandages applied – until such time that the vet takes over. Avoid being bitten by an animal in distress. No-one wants to add to their woes.Â
Rather be careful and get the pet to the vet soonest. If it is more than a fairly small open wound, or a broken tooth, or a torn ear, the treatment is as a real emergency and speak to the vet and ask for the best advice. Broken legs, or worse, could lead to serious health issues later on. Pick the dog up carefully – muzzle its nose with tape if need be – and get it to the vet immediately. Be careful how you pick it up: smaller dogs are easier to handle by placing a hand under their chest and the other under their hindquarters, for example. For bigger dogs, one may have to improvise a stretcher with a blanket or large towels. Circumstances will dictate.Â
Of course, there could be other issues, such as a dog struggling to breathe or hyperventilating. Calm it, let it have water – and proceed to the vet if it doesn’t relax. Dogs and cats suffering from burns should be treated carefully too: run cool water over them - do not apply any ointments, at best a saline dressing, for example.Â
Dogs are often more easy to handle than cats in these situations. However, if your cat loves and trusts you, it may well allow you to touch and comfort it, put it in a carrier and take it to the vet. Seeing one’s pets suffer is a painful thing.Â
Make sure of the vet’s details, the minimum first-aid kit materials – and try and stay calm for the pet’s sake – until the vet takes over.

Pet Owners Have Certain Responsibilities
Most people love their pets dearly and make sure these animals are treated with love, care, compassion, and dignity until their last day. This also means that they are afforded medical care when and if necessary.Â
Therefore owners of cats and dogs – and other more exotic pets – should know who the best veterinarians in the region are, where and how to find them, and to make sure you know what their services involve, what their office hours are, and what experience they offer in terms of their service, in terms of how long they have been known in their region and also what other pet owners in the region have to say about them.Â
This is true for all veterinarian services all over the world whether you live in Manchester, UK, Paris France, or Greeley, Colorado – pet lovers want to know that they are dealing with an experienced, professional, recommended vet service when they need one. This means, therefore, one needs to know where the nearest animal hospital or clinic, or veterinarian rooms, are when one wants to schedule an appointment to meet the vet, and hopefully deals with the same one all the years of the pet’s life – provided the vet’s services are known to be good, diagnostics spot on and treatment of the highest caliber.Â
Part of the owner’s responsibility to their pets includes understanding that pets can get sick – and do – just like their owners. Therefore there are some basic requirements one wants the animal hospital to measure up to. Examples are:
The animal hospital and vets should be able to offer all preventative care to include regularly scheduled appointments to make sure the pet is offered a good check-up to pick up abnormalities or potential illness before these become issues for concern. A good vet and animal hospital ensure that pets receive thorough wellness testing and exams so that preventable diseases and conditions are taken care of early on;
Pets need their vaccinations from time to time. Make sure you visit a vet and animal hospital where the vets will update you about these, will send you communication when next your pet is due for one of these and will make sure your pet receives the correct dosages at the appropriate times;
You want to deal with compassionate vets, nurses, and support staff to help you and your pet relax during visits, treatments, and surgeries – also about follow-up procedures;Â
A good animal hospital offers surgeries, those that are scheduled before the time, for instance when an owner wants their pet(s) neutered or spayed to prevent unwanted litters. It is the responsible thing to do unless you are a breeder or have a home for puppies and kittens even before they are born;
A good animal hospital is geared to deal with emergencies when animals get sick unexpectedly, or when they land up in a fight or accident and need fast and effective care to treat such situations – often with surgery. Make sure your veterinarians are well experienced and available in this regard;
One also wants to deal with an animal hospital known for staying abreast of new developments in the world of veterinary science and care, a hospital that offers modern procedures with the latest equipment, best x-ray services, tests for PennHip to ensure your dog’s hips are good, OFA tests to certify hips and every possible service to ensure both preventative care – and surgeries when called for.
Pets form the moment they arrive as tiny creatures, find a way into our hearts; it remains our responsibility to love and cherish them, feed them the correct diet, offer them safety and a good home. Part of our responsibility is to also know the best animal hospital in the region to ensure they are always in good hands when they are not well – or when they need to visit the vet for their annual check-up.

What Should Pet Owners Look For In Their Veterinary Professional?
What Should Pet Owners Look For In Their Veterinary Professional?
 As much as we have expectations of our doctors and specialists, pet owners should be looking for certain qualities in the veterinarians and animal clinics they entrust their pets’ care with. This applies whether you live in or near Greeley, Colorado, Boulder or elsewhere. If you do not feel comfortable with the service and treatment at a certain animal clinic or the veterinarian, then you may want to change.
There are some really important issues to consider when one chooses the veterinarian that will take care of the health of your pets. It goes beyond the basic issues such as the veterinarians and their support staff having studied and qualified in their field. It is true that first impressions often last. Therefore the more professional the clinic and the veterinarians, the greater the likelihood that one would feel comfortable and stay with them in the future.
So, look for a clinic that presents well and offers clean surrounds and where the staff are friendly and attentive. You want to know they are really interested in you and your pet, and that you are not just another number for them. Veterinarian services that show passion for what they do, are more likely to instill confidence in owners; pets can feel this too.
Make sure the clinic you take your pets to for both scheduled visits and emergencies, makes use of the latest, most advanced and modern technology when they examine the pet, when they treat them and when they see them for follow-ups (when called for). This is also where experience counts: the clinic whose veterinarians and nurses, and other support staff, offer experience in their field may be better equipped to examine, diagnose and treat conditions.
They may also be better able to offer surgeries and advice for after-care once the animal leaves the clinic. Make sure you trust the clinic enough to offer all of those services that could be reasonably expected of a good, professional veterinary service. This will include, among some, the following:
·       Are they known to offer thorough wellness exams and testing that may establish whether your pet is in great health – and not in danger of developing certain conditions in the future. For example, do they do a thorough check-up that may include blood tests, urinalysis and parasite screening?
·       Are they known to offer teeth cleaning and ear cropping services? Teeth cleaning, especially, is important as bad teeth can lead to various ailments and future problems for your pet.
·       Does the veterinary service you visit, offer spaying and neutering to ensure unwanted pregnancies are avoided?
·       Do they offer certain tests that may establish early on whether or not your dog may suffer from future dysplasia, such as the PennHip X-ray procedure? Do they offer OFA tests for dogs to evaluate hips? It is a known fact that many dogs are prone to hip problems – with early intervention, such as these tests, certain conditions may be stopped from developing.
·       Does the veterinary service you are dealing with offer, for example, advanced orthopedic surgeries? Are they experienced enough to offer owners and pets a wide range of professional service and assistance?
·       A professional clinic will make sure they are available for house calls, especially if they know the client and their pet(s) well.
·       It is important, too, to know that you can call them up in emergency situations to help you and save your pet. Think of accidents such as the dog or cat being hit by a car, or hurting themselves unexpectedly. The unforeseen happens so quickly.
The above are some of the most important factors to consider when you are looking for a good veterinary service. Compassion, knowledge about their profession and experience in their field go a long way towards being the veterinarians of choice for pet owners.
