And then I read bits from the interview that's not available (cries) and Geoffrey Rush said he's "disappointed" that the POTC writers and producer never let him suggestions for his character, Barbossa, including they never let Barbossa GETTING HIMSELF A GIRL

I know we don’t know much about Carina’s mom. but what do you think made her fall for Hector, a cold hearted pirate, of all people? And he seemed to truly love her which I find strange.

We know her name was Margaret Smith. I imagine he was just as surprised by their love.

She probably found him attractive because he’s intelligent and mysterious. He fell for her because she’s competent and sweet.

Slowly, she discovered how much of a regular, romantic man he could be and he discovered how much fire she had in her.

This led to an actual relationship developing from a tentative friendship

My #mermay messy sketch. Here's mermaid!Margaret and Barbossa in Part of Your World Reprise from The Little Mermaid. I saw @captainbool-bool 's art of the alternative ending in POTC 5 where Barbossa's washed up on the island. And this gave me the idea of mermaid! Margaret saved Barbossa from drowning himself after he sacrificed for their daughter, Carina and took him on the island.

7. Jack Sparrow and Angelica

I could see where the writers were going but I personally don’t ship it. There was some chemistry (I could see them going for competitive haters) but for me, Jack flows better without a love interest. Not to mention, there’s no future since Jack left her to die.

(By the ways, I’d totes marry Penelope Cruz. Javier, you lucky fella.)

6. Philip and Syrena

It has potential but there was no chemistry and very forced scenes. Maybe it would’ve worked with different actors or a better paced love story? There is no future since she’s gotta live underwater and he’s a hooman. How they gonna spend time together?

5. Elizabeth Swann and James Norrington

My boy just can’t catch a break can he? Poor lad. I’m glad he stood aside when she chose Will. The fact that he died for her speaks volumes about how much he cares for her, even if it’s not requited. (Just a reminder, it’s okay if a woman doesn’t love you back. That’s life.)

4. Davy Jones and Calypso (Tia Dalma)

I wanted to put this higher except that I know how this ship sinks. The fact that Calypso was the only thing that could turn Davy Jones human again 😭😭 but it was clear that they were pretty toxic. He ripped out his heart to forget her and she cursed him. I don’t really know who to blame but I’m leaning towards Davy.

3. Henry Turner and Carina Smyth

A bit rushed but I can live with it. So much chemistry and their scenes were so wholesome. Philip and Syrena were like an underdeveloped rip-off of Willabeth so Henrina was a refreshing take. Willabeth are the soft lovers who pine over each other whereas Henrina are the arguing teens who will fuck or fight. They had so much in common and yet they were so different. He’s an energetic cinnamon roll and she’s a spunky, done-with-life gal. AHHHHHH! I can see a future of bickering and sexual tension before they finally get married. (Side note: the way that she’s Barbossa’s daughter and he’s the Turners’ son haha)

2. Hector Barbossa and Margaret Smyth

Hear me out! Hear me out!! The cold, ruthless Hector Barbossa found a woman he loved enough to have a child with?? It’s a fucking miracle. And unlike Davy Jones and Calypso, he still loved her long after they were separated. Had she lived and he didn’t have to give up Carina, I think Barbossa would’ve been a very different man (the daddy vibes are real lmao I’ll see myself out).

I was super depressed at the end of AWE but their reunion in DMTNT was worth it. Orlando and Keira’s chemistry was unreal. Will and Elizabeth were so perfect for each other. The development over 3 movies was 💯💯 and let’s not forget their iconic wedding (“BARBOSSA!”).

I've been just thinking about musical!Barbossa is still an asshole that he supposed to be in the film but he hides his pain of grieving and loss over Margaret's death and takes him to slow recovery for years from that. It's difficult for him to move on.

Hello op! I'm the person who infamously fancast Joseph Quinn as young Barbossa (the op who draws that inspired by my fancast!)! Also, I love your interpretation!

However, my interpretation is quite different to your's. My interp of Margaret is also came from a wealthy family. She and Barbossa met in post AWE and went off adventures to find the silver crystal that shaped like a lotus flower that Margaret is searching for (I'm using my DMTNT musical fan concept lore bc that movie and OST deserves a repurpose as a musical adaptations), however, no crystal was found that Margaret is feeling miserable about it. Barbossa told her it's ok and move one and together as a couple at her home until she died of post partum fever after she bore Carina. This left Barbossa hits so damn hard to deal grief and loss over her death and thinking he cannot handle grief to raise his baby daughter as a single father. Then he left her at the orphanage so he can slowly recover from grief.

My relationship interp of pegtor (ship name I made up for Barbossa and Margaret's hc nickname Peggy) is like book version of Sophie and Howl, Beatrice and Benedict, and 12 and Clara. I can see them as like the couple who despises each other due to their statuses and the fell in love each other during adventures (I saw this trope on TikTok and love it that perfectly describes my interp of pegtor)

Ok but- hear me out. This is such a long shot and weird post but I was thinking about Hector Barbossa and Margaret Smyth from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Just because Margaret’s story is v unknown, and I don't why I had this very long shower thought about their relationship and I have now created an entire back story for them using what's canon and in my mind changed a few little canon things and realized that doing so could make an entire mini-series that would slap and be the most tragic love story at the same time. and imagine someone rly cool being casted as Hector like maybe joseph quinn (totally not inspired by this tik tok and the amount of people on this darn app who have said jo would make a fine young Barbossa)

What if Margaret was this super rich noble girl a bit like Elizabeth. She meets Hector somehow like maybe she sneaks out to a tavern to escape high society and meets him there.

They quickly fall in love and she ends up joining his pirate ship and they get married. That's how Jack knows about her (I think Jack was on Barbossa's crew when he was younger if I'm not mistaken?). If this actually makes it to Disney, imagine seeing young Jack Sparrow in a series that would be iconic. ANYWAYS. So she stays on his ship, icon and they're married and they live a happy life together as pirates.

But obviously, Margaret's father is pissed, and he wants her back because he can't have his daughter out to be a pirate. And as if on cue, the British government captures her (idk how yet pls i just came up w this), and she's in jail and about to be sent to the gallows. Her dad hears this, and he's a bit cruel so he's like "well you've asked for it by becoming a pirate"

plot twist, she had just discovered she was pregnant (and hadn't told Hector maybe? see that's where I would change the plot bc if Barbossa never knew he had a daughter it would have made things even more interesting.) So she's like dad plz I don't want to be sent to the gallows im expecting :(( and the dude is like well... I can't have you get killed now and so he takes her back to england in secret.

AND POOR HECTOR THINKS SHE'S DEAD. Bc his crew saw her name on the gallows list or something and told him and then he went to the dad and the dad was like "yeah shes dead sry bro"

and the filmmaker in me is really coming out rn because I was thinking of this rly dramatic scene where he's like "well I can't live without her, kill me now" and maybe throws a gun at him. but the dad is like don't be stupid.

and this is when our icon Hector Barbossa starts to become a rly mean ruthless pirate and doesn't give two shits about anything.

And then poor Margaret is like :( and wants to get back to her husband but obvy the dad is mean and tells her he's dead and maybe she dies after she gives birth or just really quickly after I don't remember what's canon. so instead of being raised in an orphanage Karina's being raised by her mean grandpa, they come back to the Caribbean and potc 5 happens. and then when she meets Barbossa he's like "you remind me of someone" and he asks who was her mother when he hears her last name like in the movie and she explains and he's like WTF 0.0

I was thinking of an alternate version where Margaret is actually still alive, just placed in a nuthouse by her dad bc she cannot live this life and is depressed her husband is 'dead'
