"Lord Duilin, if now is a good time, may I speak privately with you?" Nívëien asked, her face set in a serious, barely concealed grimace. "I have something of the upmost importance to discuss with you." Gondolin au @pearlmaidenofalqualonde
Tumblr media
"Yes, my lady?"
Duilin was concerned by her serious expression, and he set aside everything he was working on to give her his full attention.
"Come, into my study. It is more private."

"How do you catch those pigeons without hurting them, Angarato?" Nívëien asked, her head tilting a little in bemusement. (have an OC cousin from my sideblog @pearlmaidenofalqualonde)
Angrod tilted his head too, face scrunching in confusion. "I don't do anything," he said, stroking the soft feathers at the top of the bird's head. "They just like people." He shrugged one shoulder.

Continued from here. For @pearlmaidenofalqualonde.
❦ ❦ ❦
When Nívëien mentioned her grandfather, and his own brother, a sadness appeared reflected in Thingol's deep blue eyes. It had been many long years since they had seen or conversed with one another. He peered into the face of the younger elf, noticing the similarities there which he remembered from long ago in Olwë. He placed a hand on her shoulder gently, letting the emotion show in his face for a moment before he stood straight again and shifted his gaze.
"That is the highest compliment to have my lands compared to those of the west. I have had a glimpse of the fairness of that land, once. I have felt the length of the years in the space of time since I saw my brother last," he continued, returning to sit down on his throne after he had greeted Nívëien. "Well if he cannot speak with me, perhaps thou mayst impart some tiding or knowledge. Much have thou gone through to be here."

"At that point, I think I would prefer slipping off to some secluded corner of the woods together and completing the union without witness. Better to deal with any relatives' ire after the fact."
"Neither do I. Still, I would prefer that over the many days of cleansing sessions, prayers to ask for blessings from Manwe and Varda for the marriage to be a good and strong one, and meditation to discover whether you make the decision to marry based on genuine want instead of expectation."

(arda au Nívëien for Beren @elvesofalqualonde ) "I fear that if you carry on with this quest for the silmaril, you will meet your end."

“I know.”
He was not afraid. He sat in the room that had been provided for him, for Finrod had insisted he rest a day before they departed, so supplies could be gathered and his strength assured, and dawn was a better time to leave, anyway. Beren had eaten and bathed, and now sat on the low chair by the window, sharpening his hunter’s knife.
“But my heart tells me I must go. I have nothing to live for, if not my Tinúviel.”

🌿🍒 Beleg for Nívëien? @pearlmaidenofalqualonde
Tumblr media
send “🌿🍒” (or "mistletoe") for my muse's reaction to standing under a mistletoe with your muse
"My lady, watch where you are standing." Beleg was rosy-cheeked and joyful, as the city celebrated midwinter. It was a beautiful day - cold, but with bright winter's sunlight, and a fresh blanket of snow that dusted the hair and ears of the reveller's. Someone had tied a branch of mistletoe to the tree branch above her.
Beleg kissed her cheek sweetly. "Unless you are hunting for kisses?"

"Your realm is a truly beautiful one, your majesty." (Nívëien for Thingol @pearlmaidenofalqualonde )
Thingol bowed his head slightly as he acknowledged the young elf, feeling pride swell in his chest at her words. "That is very kind. Much work does go into keeping it in the shape and haven for the Sindar that it is."
"Though this thou might know, my brother's grand-daughter, as much effort have we both put into our kingdoms, to aid the Teleri."

"I will speak to Lord Maeglin. I am sure this can be settled with a discrete word."
He was sure it was some kind of misunderstanding; of course, Idril was beautiful and charming, the sun in the center of Gondolin's court, but to those who had helped carry her over the Ice, she was also like a daughter. He did not like the idea of anyone making her feel threatened, even unintentionally.
"He has not had very good examples in his life, after all. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, my lady."
"If you find it hard to believe Lord Duilin, do you not think the King would find it even harder? He loves Maeglin," Nívëien pointed out, a little frustrated. In her experience, family wasn't all that helpful and didn't listen until faced with undeniable, concrete proof, which she didn't have.
"Whilst I don't think he intends to be cruel, Princess Idril may not see it that way," she tried to explain, she was struggling to keep her composure when speaking of something like this. Nívëien had been in Idril's place before, with people caring more about the man bothering her and his feelings than hers. She felt so much compassion for Idril for having to deal with this, especially from someone who is supposed to be her family.
"Does she not deserve the same courtesy and consideration that Maeglin is shown? I came to you in hope of having an ally to assist Princess Idril in feeling safe without antagonizing Lord Maeglin, he needs to learn that behavior isn't acceptable without him feeling like he's being treated like a criminal."
Perhaps she should have gone straight to Turukano or one of the other Lords, perhaps they would be more inclined to listen to her.

“The King is very gracious to lend his aid in the memory of my ancestor.” To think these elves had met his ancestor, his grandfather several times over. It was hard to understand, when they seemed so young and full of life.
“You are right, perhaps. But is it so strange her father desires that her husband be worthy of her light and grace? She is dearest to him of all things - dearest to the world, I would wager, for she is like the moonlight on the sea. You will understand it when you find love like this. I would do anything for her.”
"Aye, I did. My cousin spoke highly of you and your people," Nívëien said, her voice soft. She placed her hands in her lap, grasping her skirts to settle her nerves. "He was very found of the man, Beor the Old? He grieved his end fiercely."
"That I cannot comment on, for I have yet to meet anyone who brings such feelings out of me nor am I overly familiar with how courtship is done among the sindar. Princess Tinúviel is truly blessed to be loved so fiercely." The princess admitted, and she briefly wondered what if would feel like to be loved the way Beren loved Tinúviel.
"Perhaps, it should be Tinúviel who decides what is or isn't worthy in exchange for her hand?" The teleri princess advised.

“And I am Beren, son of Barahir, but you knew that already, my lady.” Beren offered her another smile. Yes, his quest was likely doomed. But it was love that drove him forward, and love that would make it possible. What did he have to lose but his life?
“What other deed would be worth the hand of Tinúviel, fairest maiden of all Beleriand? Only a Silmaril is a worthy gift.”
"I think that when the valar combined fear Morgoth and avoid going near him, it is for good reason." Nívëien said, her ears twitching a little as she thought of the fear and panic that started in valinor when the Trees were destroyed.
"And when you consider how few make it out of Angband alive, that only shows how dangerous and futile it is." She added, not wanting to say outright that she thinks Beren will fail and hurt his feelings. "Is there no other way to prove your worth so you may have her hand?"
"Please excuse my rudeness for not introducing myself properly, my name is Nívëien Marillanís." The princess introduced herself, dipping her head in a small, polite bow.

He frowned, uncertain. Lord Maeglin was a little strange, but he was young, and he had had quite an unfortunate start in life. Duilin was inclined to feel sorry for him, and when he was in the company of other lords, he did not seem too strange towards Idril in particular.
"What do you mean, my lady?"
"Lord Duilin, if now is a good time, may I speak privately with you?" Nívëien asked, her face set in a serious, barely concealed grimace. "I have something of the upmost importance to discuss with you." Gondolin au @pearlmaidenofalqualonde

"They like other people too." Angrod set the bird down on his knee. He took his cousin's hand, raising it to the level of her eyes. It took a moment to arrange her fingers just so, but when he had he snapped twice softly. A breath later a purplish grey pigeon landed on her fingers, its head bobbing around as it looked between them. "See."
"How do you catch those pigeons without hurting them, Angarato?" Nívëien asked, her head tilting a little in bemusement. (have an OC cousin from my sideblog @pearlmaidenofalqualonde)
