Binibining Pilipinas Naga City, Bicol Region 2023 Regional Costume
Paulina’s national costume is an ode to Bicol’s patroness, the Our Lady of Peñafrancia, entrusted in the hands of Nagueños. By wearing this creation, she portrays a devotee who carries their beloved “Ina” as a sign of how she had deepened the faith, shaped and enriched the culture and history of people. This presentation is an offered prayer to her Binibini journey and gratitude to her designer, team, Nagueños, and her father, who all helped in creating this.

random tots in bullet

A LEAP OF FAITH
Relapse Review DEBOSYON
After a decade I get to blog this review.
Debosyon 2013 Cinemalaya Film Fest Entry starring Mara Lopez as Saling mystical creature (diwata) and Paulo Avelino Mando a farmer who is a devotee of the Virgin of Peňafrancia
This is my least favorite movie of Paulo Avelino not because I don't like it I actually like it so much but because this is one of his movies na "niyayanig ang prinsipyo ko" in a surface this is just a Fantasy Movie. A farmer got into an accident while foraging thru the forest and gathering orchids, a mysterious woman helped him and nursed him back to health. They fell in love but Mando learned the true nature of Saling. Very "folklorish" right?
Paulo Avelino's acting never fails, him speaking and singing in Bikolano totally rad, the subtleness but compelling portrayal especially the moment when he learned the true nature of the woman he loves that she's from the otherlyworld, very layered from sobbing to weeping and bawling you can feel the turmoil and the hard realizations. Frightened but love prevailed he went back to Saling with a faith healer in tow To cut the story short Mando being a devotee of Peñafrancia followed the advice of the faith healer: pray to free Saling from the curse and so Mando went like traslacion esque and then goes back to Saling hoping for a good outcome but it did not change Saling. She's still a diwata. He accepted the truth and I really don't know how to interpret the ending (leave it to the viewers to give their own interpretation) what I know is; it shaken my faith to the core when our prayers went unanswered and we fall back to earth and then take a leap of faith again, hope against all hopes like what Mando did in the movie. Give it all for love. The film gives out a unique perspective on Love and Faith. Faith, hope and love indeed are intertwined.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I love about this movie is the profoundness. It weaved the elements of Romance, spirituality and Filipino folklore. Very thought provoking. I love the silences. Sometimes silence is the best expression of love. The lushness of its cinematography. Visually stunning. It gives out an ethereal and earthly feels. This is not just your usual fantasy movie but a love story and a love letter to nature. The movie is so filipino and because this is a Paulo Avelino film it can never go wrong.

Looking back, I often see her, Sec. and former Mayor Jessie, and the kids wandering around Naga. I often see them during PTA meetings, family days, and other school events in Universidad de Sta. Isabel. Tricia was a former classmate from grades 2 - 6, that was in 2001-2006. And even then, their family was among the ordinary families in Naga - going to church, strolling in malls, eating out, and this is not a surprise -- you can also see them at the bus terminal, waiting for their ride to Manila. It was so amazing that a former classmate and her mom are now in the headlines, about to become members of the first family.
There was also an instance in 2013, VP Leni, was a congresswoman back then, she was a guest in the same event I volunteered to participate in. The event "Parangal sa Mga Manghahabing Bayani" was an event to recognize the jute weavers behind a homegrown bag brand - Mr. Kengkoy. The humble congresswoman appeared in the events hall wearing a simple black dress, who just came from another engagement that day. She was calm and very soft spoken, and very, very humble.
Fast forward to 2017, I luckily bumped into VP Leni and Tricia at the bus terminal. I was with my parents and sister. My papa and mama were pushing me to talk to Tricia to have a picture taken with VP Leni. I was really shy but ended up doing what my parents asked me to do. It was a very short kumustahan. Tricia just said that it was really a long time since we met in person (I think that last time was when we were in high school, we did some grade 6 class reunions). She also asked me where I am currently working. And I just answered briefly. I was REALLY shy. My parents were also able to talk to VP Leni saying that me and Tricia were grade school classmates in USI and have been in school events with her and Sec. Jesse. VP Leni responded that she remembered seeing my parents too! And yes, her memory is really sharp and even if she's the second highest official of the countrty, she's still very humble. And as were leaving the bus terminal, we also learned that my ate, who was also travelling to Manila for work was luckier because she got to ride the bus with VP Leni, Tricia, and Jillian.
February 8, 2022 was the kickoff rally of VP Leni, Sen. Kiko and the Tropang Angat in CamSur. I was so excited to go to work that day because I it feels festive, seeing all the preparations made in various towns in CamSur and Naga City. I was also monitoring the Facebook live feeds in my computer while working. I really felt the joy that the Bicolanos experience during fiestas such as the Peñafrancia Fiesta held every year in September. But due to the pandemic, the festivities were suspended. As soon as my work ended, I and my bestfriend, in our hot pink and old rose shirts, decided to attend the Grand Rally in Plaza Rizal. We carpooled and parked the car at SM City Naga and walked going to the venue for we were assuming the entire Panganiban Drive will be closed, or if not, we'll be stuck in traffic. Slightly tired from our walk, we decided to eat our snacks to fill our tummies before joining the crowd of Bicolano Kakampinks. Naga Garden, known for serving delicious mami and siopao, was filled with people - young and old, wearing their Leni shirts of different designs and shades of pink. "Wow! Solid! Lupet!" That's what I was thinking. I was full of hope and am very proud that VP Leni, the most qualified and competent presidentiable is from my hometown - Naga City.
** Online rallies. News on the upcoming election. Trolls/bashers **
I just recently attended the One Pink March, the second grand rally of Leni-Kiko and the Tropang Angat. I was really eager to attend the said event and even signed up as early as March. Belonging to the employees who work in shifts, I eagerly requested and insisted that I may be on off duty during the grand rally, May 6, 2022. I even bought three kakampink shirts and pink items to show my support. I hate being in crowded places, being under the heat of the sun, and being stuck in traffic but I didn't mind those simple discomforts. I just wanted to show my support and let my candidates win for the Philippines - for a better nation! And that flame of hope lit up when VP Leni decided to run for the presidency in October 2021. She has been working tirelessly, showing resilience and resourcefulness to every calamity, fighting corruption, aiding the pandemic, and helping each and every Filipino live a better life. But despite doing an excellent job, she became the center of fake news and trolls.
Election Day - May 9, 2022
EXCITED! I left the house after eating breakfast and without taking a bath yet because I wanted to vote already! I waited for an hour for my turn (I'm kinda lucky my voting precinct isn't as crowded as the others) but didn't mind the waiting time and the summer heat. And then, my turn finally came! I WAS HOLDING THE BALLOT AND THE MARKING PEN! I WAS A BIT TENSED that I might invalidate the vote! I might commit an undo-able mistake in shading the circle. BUT I WAS FULL OF HOPE! I was very happy to have casted my vote to my most deserving candidates. I was proud of myself for not messing up. I am a voter. I was a proud Filipino. When I got home, I was monitoring the updates via twitter about VP Leni and the other presidentiables. I was also excited that I might bump into VP Leni somewhere in the streets of Naga. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. I wanted to see my beacon of hope so baaad! >.<
Loads of Disappointment
The results of the election was a disappointment. It crushed the ball of flaming hope in me. I was devastated. From the time the first partial unofficial result went out, that was just 3% of the election returns, until the votes of BongBong Marcos reached 30M, I can hardly look at the figures. I can't look straight at the monitor. I was brokenhearted but still hoping that there are glitches in the results.
The day after the elections, a thanksgiving mass for VP Leni was held at the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral. I had the leisure to attend to it but I was really tired, devastated, and heartbroken. I didn't go. But I passed by the streets of Naga, it was still filled with pink banderitas, ribbons, ornaments, tarpaulins, and murals. I also passed by the Solid Leni Bicol Headquarters in the Carmen Hotel. Everything was still intact but there's a big thing missing - the excitement, joy, and hope that was birthed during the campaign period.
I reached home and opted to attend the thanksgiving mass virtually. I can still feel the sadness. And it might even be sadder if I was physically present in the Cathedral.
Coping Up -- dream about VP Leni :)) FB live, pink museum
Pasasalamat -- Angat Buhay Foundation
I wanted to meet you in person, my beacon of hope! :D

Life Update 2023 summary
First of all, last year was complete shit and it's a torture to remember it again right now but for the sake of this blog well, I'm gonna endure it.
J A N U A R Y
- I got accepted at this BPO company that I've been talking about. I worked there for a month until I got sick and was terminated afterwards. Your girl was unemployed for months.
F E B R U A R Y
- After I recovered from being sick, Gek and I went to Pasacao beach for the first time and spent quality time together.
- Also DJ from high school suddenly hit me up but I just ignored it.
- started my online business, sold some pre-loved clothes and Carbonara. It was fun but really challenging
M A R C H
- Van my best friend went for a trip to Europe for 3 months so Gek, Mak and I had to stay together in one apartment without my dad knowing about it. I had to make up a lot of excuses for my dad cuz he's not gonna approve that I was living with 2 men.
- Holy Week? not sure but we got rat infestation here for the first time and ticks from Boris too.
A P R I L
- I started applying for a job and was scheduled for an interview like 2 jobs reached out to me (ADNU and Jollibee) but I didn't show up cuz I got cold feet. (not sure if this was in april, I might be tripping)
- Can't remember shit from this month
- Also started dieting and fasting this month onwards because of you know...
M A Y
- I got hired for a job!!! I went to work on my first day and I didn't feel like working there so after my lunch break, I didn't go back.
- also this might happen in april? I'm tripping again.
- Damn, the apartment got chaotic and awkward because my bff cheated on her man when she was in Europe and I was kinda involved with the drama. That shit was messy, had to deal with it until the both of them moved out.
J U N E
- my bff went back from Europe and she talked with her man and they were fine again but I was left on red notice still and it hasn't been the same for months to come
- I got a job again at this start up company that my bff and I both applied for but spoiler alert, I didn't last long either
J U L Y
- because... I got bullied in this company and my bff told me I was just overreacting but it was so obvious that these fuckers were coming at me. Long story short I lasted for 2 weeks there but I still got paid. Fuck those assholes and C U R S E T H E M.
- took so long to get my period and I was anxious!!! Didn't do it with Gek or anyone but shit was scary when my period was late. Longest cycle ever and it actually affected my performance when I was still working.
A U G U S T
- just unemployed. I barely remember what happened the month.
- probably stayed home ALL THE TIME.
S E P T E M B E R
- Peñafrancia festival just got sad because I had no friends to spend it with unlike the previous year when I used to ride the Vikings with them, this year just hit different.
- Bff and her man finally moved out so my man and I started living together, just the 2 of us.
- Stressed because how the fuck am I gonna pay the rent and bills in my apartment if I was unemployed? but I got it so I am fucking broke right now as we speak.
- Bf resigned from his job to become a delivery man and his schedule was flexible so we spent a lot of time together.
O C T O B E R
- worst fucking month of the year ever
- got a new job again but I lasted for 2 weeks only because I fucked shit up and this experience was probably the worst fucking one cuz literally it broke the remaining spirit I had and paralyzed me to go back in the field again.
- Don't wanna talk about it anymore just FUCK. THIS. MONTH.
N O V E M B E R
- 24th birthday?!?!?! wtf I am old and unemployed again
- still recovering from that hell of experience 💀
- also fuck everyone in that workplace especially Mae Ann fucking fat bitch and Jo soggy tits cunt 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
D E C E M B E R
- Sad Christmas but I bought a round cake and it was the best decision I made the entire year.
- the remaining days of the year were blank and sad and boring. Barely even remember shit
- lol I went shopping for my self-care thing as a gift for myself this Christmas cuz I've had enough bullshit for the entire fucking year.
- and I also binge-watched HxH the entire month on Muse Asia because it was playing on loop so I guess it was a good end of this awful year.
Glad that was over.
That's it. That was my entire year. I got severely sick at the beginning of the year, got unemployed a number of times, got caught up in a drama, relationship with my friends isn't the same anymore, traumatized as fuck and still here. Fuck 2023 and some of the people I met this year. Officially the worst year of my life.
Damn, who would have thought that 2023 was gonna be hell for me? at least the previous year was sort of okay but 2023? NOPE.

HEY GUYS IT'S ME AGAIN FRANCY, AND THIS IS MY 2ND WEEK OF MY DAILY BASIS
Monday morning I immediately feel very drained and very tired even though I haven't done anything, because I'm coughing and my throat is very sore, and I forgot about the midterm examination as in I didn't really do a review because I didn't feel really feel good, but I also survived the examination even without a review and we finished the exam around 6pm, and we have prepared dinner and when we finish doing what we have to do, we watch a movie together with Ma'am Ajoy and while watching I was doing an inventory. It's Tuesday in the morning as my routine I woke up early and I take a shower and it seems like i can't go in because I'm not feeling well because of my headache and I feel like I'm going to get sick but I chose to go in, because I don't want to skip a subject, and in the afternoon I did inventory again and after that we ate and then we watched the movie again, and after that I went to the room to sleep. On the next day It's Wednesday I'm feeling tired because my cough and cold got worse as in, but I took medicine so it wouldn't get worse and after that I took inventory again and again HEHEHE. and I went to bed early because I felt like I had a fever. Hey guys It's Thursday, its our PE time and it is (gymnastic) and we did exercise and after that I'm not feeling well again because I have asthma but I can handle it because it's not too bad. Friday in the morning my body was very sore maybe because of the exercise we did yesterday, and today I was going to go home early but I didn't because Ma'am Ajoy, Ate Pat and Ma'am Sandra were leaving and they going to Naga for the congress of all SSG, and no one will be left at school and no one will look the canteen so I didn't go home, and when I came I saw the HRS students, because they were going to cook, and I was watching them while walking and I feel like I'm their supervisor HAHAHA so funny and in the afternoon I went home with Kuya Erwin. November 28 and it is Saturday, It's mira's birthday, I woke up at 7 am because kuya Erwin woke up early to take a bath and I remembered that's why he woke up early and took a bath because the Spjians basketball player had a game in the Binalay. I would like to come/watch but I can't because there is a lot to do because there is an event here at home, at 10am we clean up the messes at home and organize toys, and in the afternoon Ate Malou and I design for birthday party at around 6 Kuya Erwin's family arrived, and the children were happily playing in our mini playground here at home, while we were waiting for Kuya Erwin, we prayed the rosary first and then they came Kuya Erwin, Ma'am Ajoy and Sir Ryan, and we had dinner and while we were eating Ma'am Ajoy suddenly started talking about the game that happened earlier, she said it was cheesy like that HAHAHA. And while she was talking I was jealous because I wasn't I attended and I didn't see my crush playing basketball hahaha so funny right and after eating we chatted first and later the guests left and we rested. Sunday in the morning, there was a lot to do like cleaning the house/washing/folding clothes, and after Angel and I did all that we fell asleep because we did so much, and later ate Malou woke us up because we were going to church, and we went to church at the Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Peñafrancia and after we went to church we went to kuya Erwin's house because they said we were going to sleep here, and that's all that happened during my whole week
soooo funny because all week I have a cough and a cold haha

Sunday in the morning, there was a lot to do like cleaning the house/washing/folding clothes, and after Angel and I did all that we fell asleep because we did so much, and later ate Malou woke us up because we were going to church, and we went to church at the Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Peñafrancia and after we went to church we went to kuya Erwin's house because they said we were going to sleep here, and that's all that happened during my whole week
soooo funny because all week I have a cough and a cold haha

Sustaining Your Wellness Journey Beyond the Finish Line
Tumblr media
The rise in popularity of running in the Philippines indicates a revitalized outlook among Filipinos regarding their health and wellness. This is reflected in the growing number of participants in recent events like fun runs and races and the burgeoning running communities in many parts of the country.
In fact, over 9,600 runners, including novice and seasoned ones, families, kids, and people from various backgrounds, joined the two legs of Run for Wellness this year, held at UP Diliman in Quezon City on June 16 and Naga City on September 15, just in time for the celebration of the Peñafrancia Festival.

Organized by Southstar Drug and Maxicare, Run for Wellness is an annual event that promotes physical health and well-being through running. Originally held in Naga City, it has since expanded to Metro Manila to encourage more Filipinos to sprint toward their best lives and become their own champions.
Joining running events like Run for Wellness is a great way to start your own wellness journey and connect with others who have the same goal of embracing a more active lifestyle. After all, running is free and accessible compared to other forms of workout, which makes it beginner-friendly. It’s a great cardiovascular exercise that also strengthens muscles and bones, and boosts mental well-being.

It doesn’t require much to start running as a habit—good running shoes and comfortable clothing are really all you need. Basic knowledge about warm-up and cool-down exercises to avoid injuries, a fitness watch to track your progress over time, and the right mindset to overcome days when you just don’t feel like running at all can also help.
As you adopt running in your day-to-day routine, don’t forget to be mindful of the other aspects of your health and wellness. These include eating a balanced diet, having adequate rest and sleep, and ensuring you are in the right mental space despite the stresses of everyday life. In doing so, you’ll be able to achieve better holistic health, enabling you to be stronger and stay consistent with your running journey.
