One girl, who said she was from Queens, said, "Can you get something to Ringo?" I answered her: "I'll try." Excitedly, she reached into a little purse and handed me a bagel with the words, "Luv you Ringo. Debby" scrawled in blank ink on the side. I was impressed. I figured that a bagel would certainly get Ringo's attention, and it did when I presented it to him during a tape session later in the day. KANE: Ringo, I have one of the more unusual gifts for you. [I handed it to him.] RINGO: I love this. [laughter] Well, y'know Larry, most of the fans are so sweet. I mean, c'mon. Without them, there would be no Beatles. If you see her, thank her. (...) In Cincinnati, where we stayed just long enough for the concert, a cute little girl slipped her school report card into my hand. Before I could give it back, she ran away, screaming, "Give it to Paul!" Feeling a tremendous weight of responsibility, I showed the straight-A report card to Paul in the backstage area. He shook his head and moved on. From New York, I put the report card in the mail and addressed it o the Cincinnati school system. I hope she got it back.

WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION MAGAZINE : FEBRUARY 1999
THE MINISTRY OF DARKNESS
What is the Undertaker’s demonic vision?
By Bill Banks
As the new millennium nears, some people are convinced that the “end” is imminent. The proof, according to them, is everywhere in today’s culture–the music, television and movies. Nostradamus (1503-66) prophesied that by the year 2000, the decay of humanity would lead to Hell on Earth and the ultimate Apocalypse. Many people today are convinced of what he portended. “Prepare,” they say, “for Judgement Day is upon us.”
One can only imagine what Nostradamus would have thought of the World Wrestling Federation and the Undertaker in particular. The Phenom’s threat that the “Ministry of Darkness” would blanket the Federation in destruction has sent chills through a number of wrestling insiders. Is this the Undertaker and Paul Bearer’s macabre way of welcoming the Apocalypse? If so, have we yet to see the true evil within the demonic superstar?
Since his dawn in the Federation, the Phenom has been a sort of antichrist. Like the music of bands such as Type O Negative and Danzig, he has claimed his inspiration from the Dark Side, but he’s only touched on what that world is actually about. While fans have cheered the Undertaker for much of his career, some have forgotten what he stands for–everything that is pure evil.
In some instances, his powers were unexplainable. At the 1994 Royal Rumble, Yokozuna and a host of Federation Superstars locked him inside an air-tight coffin. As the seemingly lifeless tomb was hauled out of the arena, millions saw the Undertaker–or his spirit–levitate into the rafters. In October 1996, he was buried six feet under a makeshift grave site. To this day, no one can explain how lightning struck the tombstone inside the enclosed arena. And in one of the most horrific scenes in Federation history, Kane trapped the Phenom inside his casket at the 1998 Royal Rumble and charred it with a raging inferno. After extinguishing the flames, Federation officials opened the casket to find that the superstar had vanished.
Levitation, resurrection, surviving an inferno–each display of his unholy ability grows more hellish and unexplainable than the one before. What is feeding this core of evil inside him? Is it society’s deterioration or has the Undertaker finally succumbed to the ultimate evil–the Devil himself?
In demonology, the study of Satanism, experts believe that opening oneself to the Dark Side might invite possession by demons, known as incubi or succubi. It’s called demonic oppression or demonic invasion. According to occultists, evil spirits take over the body and mind and there is no guarantee of ever ridding them. Those who claim to have been possessed in this manner speak of “something inside them that takes over,” and often they believe they are Satan’s minions. Serial killers such as “Son of Sam” David Berkowitz and “The Night Stalker” Richard Ramirez claimed when they were apprehended to have been inspired by the devil. Seemingly harmless games and pranks involving chants and Ouija boards can even turn into something far more sinister. Other hardcore demonologists even believe that simply reading about the subject opens the door to the possibility of possession!
Perhaps the Undertaker has been living his lifestyle for so long that an unspoken evil is dwelling inside him. Demonologists also say that our state of mind–hatred in particular–can lead to possession. Who has been more embittered about being cheated out of the Federation Championship than the Phenom? Following years of festering ill will and unexplained occurrences might he have invited demonic incubi to grow inside of him? If so, are these forces about to manifest themselves in the Ministry of Darkness–led by a superstar who believes he’s a follower of the Devil himself?
Another aspect of Satanism is its variety of followers. Witchcraft, superstition, magic, and occultism are all aspects of it. Hundreds, maybe thousands, of demonic religions are based on these branches, with some of their followers pledging allegiance to the Devil. What if the Ministry of Darkness is the coming of the Undertaker’s apocalyptic religion? There are more dark forces in the World Wrestling Federation today then ever before. Would they open themselves up to possession by the Phenom? Or have they already? Is the Undertaker assembling an army to help carry out his apocalyptic desires?If he believes he is the ultimate demonic leader, would these superstars follow as his devoted parishioners?
Like Nostradamus, has the Undertaker seen the coming of the “end”? Is he involved in a dark and demonic world that we cannot even begin to comprehend? Although the prophet’s predictions are open to interpretation, the coming of the Ministry of Darkness is undeniable. With such power, perhaps the Man from the Dark Side is determined to make Nostradamus’ vision of Hell on Earth a hideous reality.

The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made. All your works praise you, Lord; your faithful people extol you. They tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, so that all people may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does. The Lord upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
—Psalms 145:8-16
~~~~~
Overflowing Blessings From God
By Jennifer Kane
The Lord is gracious, full of compassion still,
His mercy flows as rivers, never dry.
In patience, He calls His people to His side,
And draws them near with tender, boundless love.
The Lord is good to all His hands have made,
His care extends to every living thing.
From dawn's first light to twilight’s fading glow,
His kindness shines and warms the waiting earth.
All works of Yours, O Lord, proclaim Your name,
And saints give voice to bless Your holiness.
From stars above to blades of swaying grass,
Creation sings of Your eternal power.
Your kingdom’s glory they declare with awe,
And tell the world the greatness of Your deeds.
From smallest whispers to the heavens' roar,
Your mighty works are known in every tongue.
The wonders of Your hands are shared by all,
Your power moves through every distant land.
From age to age, we speak of what You’ve done,
Your kingdom stands through time and never falls.
Eternal Lord, Your rule shall never end,
In faithfulness You keep each promised word.
Through every age, Your justice stays the same,
A steadfast Rock, unshaken and secure.
You lift the fallen, give the weak their strength,
And raise the weary, bowed beneath their load.
Your mercy spreads as shelter in the storm,
A refuge for the broken-hearted soul.
To You all eyes are raised; You meet each need,
Your open hand supplies both great and small.
From earth’s expanse, Your blessings freely pour,
Enough to fill each longing, every heart.
The earth rejoices, every creature sings,
For in Your care, they find their life renewed.
Your goodness feeds the sparrow and the lion,
And satisfies the hearts of those who seek.
~~~~~
Scripture: Psalms 145:8-16
Psalm 145 is a beautiful hymn of praise that draws our hearts to the character and works of God. David begins by declaring that the Lord is gracious, full of compassion, and abounding in mercy (v. 8). These words remind us of God's self-revelation to Moses (Exodus 34:6), where He declared His nature as not only powerful but tenderly loving.
God’s kindness is evident in His goodness to all creation (v. 9). This "common grace" reaches even those who do not acknowledge Him, as Jesus noted when He said that God sends rain on the just and the unjust alike (Matthew 5:45). The Apostle Paul echoed this truth in Acts 14:17, pointing to God’s provision of rain and fruitful seasons as evidence of His kindness. Moreover, Job reminds us that God’s light rises on all people (Job 25:3), showing that His blessings are as universal as the sunrise.
As David continues, he shifts focus to the responsibility of God’s people to speak of His glory and power. Creation itself testifies to God’s greatness (Romans 1:20), but we, His saints, are called to declare His mighty acts and the majesty of His everlasting kingdom (v. 10-13). How often do we speak of God’s goodness to others? Let’s be challenged to move beyond formal preaching to everyday conversations that proclaims Christ to everyone.
The psalm concludes with a beautiful assurance of God’s care for those in need (v. 14-16). Whether we have fallen (Isaiah 41:10), are weighed down with burdens (Matthew 11:28-30), or are simply waiting on His provision (Philippians 4:19), God’s kindness extends to us. He upholds, raises up, and satisfies the desires of every living thing.
Meditate on God’s graciousness, compassion, and mercy. How have you experienced these qualities in your life? Make a point this week to share a testimony of God’s goodness in your conversations, letting others see His mighty acts through your words. If you feel burdened or in need, lift your eyes to the Lord, trusting Him to sustain you. Remember His promise to open His hand and satisfy your needs in due season.
Today, take a walk in nature and observe the evidence of God’s goodness in creation (Psalm 19:1-2). Let it inspire you to praise Him and share His love with someone who may need encouragement.
~~~~~
Heavenly Father, I stand in awe of Your compassion, mercy, and faithfulness. Thank You for the countless blessings You pour out on all creation and for the way You meet my needs. You uphold me when I fall, lift me when I am burdened, and strengthen me when I am weary.
Lord, teach me to trust You more deeply and to rest in Your abundant provision. Open my eyes to the evidence of Your goodness around me, and fill my heart with gratitude. Help mr to speak boldly of Your mighty works and to share Your love with others in my daily life.
I ask that You give me a heart that rejoiced in You, a mind that meditates on Your truth, and a spirit that restd in Your unshakable promises. In every moment, remind me that You are my refuge, my strength, and my ever-present help. I praise You for who You are, and I give You all the glory. In the name of Jesus, my Lord and Savior, I pray. Amen.
The Magnificent Ambersons es la película más íntima y personal de Orson Welles, también su preferida junto a Falstaff – Chimes at Midnight.
Welles no tuvo control sobre el montaje final por no contar con la aprobación del público tras proyectarse en Pomona y la película pierde algo más de 43 minutos. Los 88 restantes resultan tan discontinuos, desconcertantes, enigmáticos y brillantes, que reconvierten la experiencia en un paseo por las ruinas de lo que había o habría sido (David O. Selznick no consiguió que delegasen una copia íntegra al Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York). Se nos ha negado, por tanto, su compleción. Esta mutilación deviene en una misteriosa narrativa que evoca The Searchers, The Wings of Eagles, El Sur o casi cualquier película de Mizoguchi (entre tantos otros ejemplos).
El año en que se estrena, Stefan Zweig se suicida con su esposa en Brasil, desesperados ante la posible propagación mundial del nacionalsocialismo. Casualmente, tanto Letter from an Unknown Woman (novela corta del autor llevada al cine por Max Ophüls) como la película de Welles atesoran algunas de las mejores secuencias que se hayan filmado jamás sobre personajes que transitan escaleras (como podréis comprobar en el vídeo que acompaña esta publicación). A colación de lo anterior, conviene recordar a Tourneur, que también rodaría ese año otra portentosa película en el mismo decorado por el que deambulan los Amberson.
Algunos planos picados de la película recuerdan aquello a lo que tan admirablemente aludía Clarín en La Regenta. De ese mundo contemplado desde las alturas en clave alegórica, nos vamos a otro distinto en los falsos contrapicados, al de Tierra, de Aleksandr Dovzhenko.
Shakespeare, Proust y Chéjov casi siempre están presentes en las películas de Welles, como también el ideario que subyace tras aquella célebre aserción elegíaca de Cocteau: filmer la mort au travail, cuya aplicación y extensión más representativa podría encontrarse en el personaje de Jedediah Leland en Ciudadano Kane.
Se han mencionado grandes autores con los que Welles establece diafonías y correlaciones, pero me resulta inevitable citar el hilo invisible que une esta película con buena parte del cine de Paul Thomas Anderson, ya que su adyacencia a nuestra contemporaneidad quizá no resulte tan evidente. El contrapunto podría localizarse en la primera aproximación a la novela de Tarkington en la que se basa The Magnificent Ambersons y que lleva por título Pampered Youth (adaptación en la que su director, David Smith, estuvo trabajando aproximadamente durante los años 1924 y 1925).
En la escena que figura a continuación, Orson Welles enclaustra dos corolarios fundamentales: la falta de autoridad en el seno de los Amberson y el sometimiento fantasmagórico y opresivo con el que George pretende dominar a su madre, alentado por su convencimiento de que Eugene —tal y como describe Shakespeare en Hamlet— se había precipitado con premura al tálamo incestuoso. En previsión de dicha catástrofe, decide acechar con vigía y desde una atalaya sombría mientras conspira para perpetuar la materialización de sus convicciones aristocráticas. Bernard Herrmann ilustra y enfatiza la insidia del personaje con su particular Ostinato.
Dado que el paso del tiempo y el tiempo perdido podrían considerarse dos de las obsesiones preponderantes y recurrentes en la filmografía de Welles, sirva de homenaje al esplendor y posterior decadencia de los Amberson esta joya poética de Manuel Alcántara:
"Yo no sé qué voy a hacer cuando se me vaya el tiempo y no pueda irme con él. Tengo los días contados, y él ha perdido la cuenta del futuro y del pasado. El tiempo siempre es presente y pasa mientras se queda, por eso nunca se entiende. Jamás es pronto o después, por más que pasen los años no pasa el tiempo por él. Ni lo pierdas ni lo ganes, el tiempo sabe que tiene todo el tiempo por delante. No sé qué va a ser de mí el día que yo me vaya, y él no se quiera venir"
Michael Redgrave in Mr. Arkadin (Orson Welles, 1955)
Cast: Orson Welles, Robert Arden, Patricia Medina, Michael Redgrave, Akim Tamiroff, Katina Paxinou, Mischa Auer, Peter van Eyck, Paola Mori, Suzanne Flon. Screenplay: Orson Welles. Cinematography: Jean Bourgoin. Art direction: Orson Welles. Film editing: Renzo Lucidi, William Morton, Orson Welles. Music: Paul Misraki.
"What if?" is the question that haunts every Orson Welles film after Citizen Kane (1941). What if Welles had had the financial, production, and distribution support for his films? Of none of them is the question more appropriate than Mr. Arkadin, which was edited by other hands than Welles's and not even shown in the United States until 1962, and at one point was said to exist in at least seven different versions. In 2006, the Criterion Collection released a three-DVD set that edited together all of the existing English-language versions of the film, following what was known of Welles's original plan, along with his comments on some of the other versions that had been released. It's probably as close as we're going to get to what the director had in mind. So what if Mr. Arkadin had been under Welles's control all along? Would we have a more coherent narrative and style? Would the protagonist, Guy Van Stratten, have been played by a more skilled actor than Robert Arden? (It's a role that would have been perfect for someone like William Holden.) Would Welles have called on the best makeup artists to provide himself with a more convincing prosthetic nose and a wig and beard whose edges don't show? Would the function and the fate of Patricia Medina's character, Mily, have been clearer? And does any of this really matter? For what we have here, despite Welles's later description of the film (or its handling) as a "disaster," is one of the most fascinating works in his storied, troubled career. There are sequences that are haunting, even if their purpose in the film is unclear, such as the procession of the penitentes, who in their tall, pointed hoods look like exactly what Mily mistakes them for: "crazy ku kluxers." Or the Goyaesque masks at Arkadin's ball. Or the sequence of truly wonderful cameo performances, including a hair-netted Michael Redgrave as the junk dealer Burgomil Trebitsch, who keeps trying to sell Van Stratten a busted telescope (which he pronounces "telly-o-scope"). Or Mischa Auer as the proprietor of a flea circus. Or Katina Paxinou as a Mexican (?) woman named Sophie. And then there's one of Welles's most celebrated speeches, perhaps second only to his "cuckoo clock" monologue in The Third Man (Carol Reed, 1949), in which Arkadin tells the fable of the scorpion and the frog. Though analogues have been found in folklore around the world, this particular formulation of it seems to have been Welles's own:
This scorpion wanted to cross a river, so he asked the frog to carry him. No, said the frog, no thank you. If I let you on my back you may sting me and the sting of the scorpion is death. Now, where, asked the scorpion, is the logic in that? For scorpions always try to be logical. If I sting you, you will die. I will drown. So, the frog was convinced and allowed the scorpion on his back. But, just in the middle of the river, he felt a terrible pain and realized that, after all, the scorpion had stung him. Logic! Cried the dying frog as he started under, bearing the scorpion down with him. There is no logic in this! I know, said the scorpion, but I can't help it -- it's my character.
Perhaps it was Welles's character that betrayed him into making movies that flopped but turned into classics.
Description:
The leader of one of the most successful U. S. Marine long range reconnaissance teams during the Vietnam War, Andrew Finlayson recounts his team's experiences in the year leading up to the Tet Offensive of 1968. Using primary sources, such as Marine Corps unit histories and his own weekly letters home, he presents a highly personal account of the dangerous missions conducted by this team of young Marines as they searched for North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong units in such dangerous locales as Elephant Valley, the Enchanted Forest, Charlie Ridge, Happy Valley and the Que Son Mountains. In numerous close contacts with the enemy, the team (code-name Killer Kane) fights for its survival against desperate odds, narrowly escaping death time and again. The book gives vivid descriptions of the life of recon Marines when they are not on patrol, the beauty of the landscape they traverse, and several of the author's Vietnamese friends. It also explains in detail the preparations for, and the conduct of, a successful long range reconnaissance patrol.
Review:
Finlayson has a very particular point of view on the war, and warfare. Throughout the book, he is constantly made aware that his actions and behaviors are both dangerous and obsessive. Yet, even though he acknowledges it, and says he takes it to heart, he still has the narcissistic bent to ignore them and feel that his way is the right way.
That’s both a positive and a negative.
His teams brought the war to the enemy and were immensely productive as far as kills and intelligence gathered. At the same time, they were in many ways reckless and dangerous.
God loves a fool and who dares wins are basically how he operates.
Overall though, the book gives you great insight into HIS way of running recon teams, and how Team Killer Kane/Swift Scout operated, the gear they took, the places they operated in, and who the people were. His writing style is quick paced and gives you a good sense of his thoughts and emotions and allows you to understand where his head was at and what he experienced.
While there were a few errors, especially in regards to keeping track of a persons rank (one page they’re corporal, next they’re a sergeant), and the weapons (carrying my m-14, and had 5 magazines of 5.56mm), the book is well done.
The Family of Destruction- Home
Part two of Leon's first death and yes I was listening to the song one of us from lion King whilst writing it. Bite me.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Mourning when your son has been on TV since birth is difficult. It's even more difficult when your son is the victim of a cult crime. The whole world thinks the house was old and faulty and just caught fire, which taker scoffed at when he saw the news as that's exactly what they said when his parents and baby brother were taken from him, only those there know the real cause.
John hasn't been the same since. Taker doesn't blame him, he held the boy he saw as a brother as he died. It also doesn't help the others using it to get a rise out of him during promos. John's angry and upset. And he's making sure everyone knows it.
Cassie, she's the only one taking it somewhat well. She's convinced herself he'll come back, claiming dad always does, so will Lee.
Taker can't bring himself to destroy the girl. She's 15, she has school and the fact she's still doing well since she began believing he'll come back taker can't do it. He'll pay for her therapy bills, hell he'll start sending her now.
Shawn? Shawn is a mess. He won't speak, he won't eat. He does his matches and then goes back to the hotel. Taker doesn't remember the last time he even looked at shawn.
Taker? Takers angry at himself. Hurt at the world. Its his fault this happened. But he never asked for this. None of them did. He's put his anger to rest by rebuilding their home. Again.
Unlike John, people don't dare to mention Leon's name to either taker or Shawn. Last time someone did they received a very hard sweet chin music.
It's been 4 months and Taker doesn't know if the pain will ever go away. Taking harder and riskier moves only helps so much.
-----
Taker leans against the ropes, keeping his head low as he catches his breathe back. He listens as a Leon chant begins. Something the fans have done a lot and taker does appreciate it, he does, it helps keep Leon alive, it just hurts him so damn much.
"Chant his name all you want! He is not one of us!" Paul calls. Takers head snaps up, his locking with the fat man on the stage. A man he hasn't seen since he brutally murdered his son. "You bastard" taker growls pushing off the rope. He stumbles slightly causing Steve to catch him. "Undertaker, do I have great news for you? The skeleton Prince is now the skeleton King!" Paul cheers. Takers eyes water at this, his head tilting slightly as his jaw clenches. He always knew Leon was different, he just didn't know he'd be cursed aswell. "No." Taker chokes. "Take a look at what I found" Paul smirks pointing to the tron. Taker lifts his gaze and his world changes.
The camera zooms onto Leon's grave as the dirt shifts and moves. A hand suddenly shoots out, startling the camera man. A bruised and bloody hand. "Help him!" Paul orders. Kanes hand appears, grabbing Leon's and pulling, digging at the dirt. Leon gasps as his face is freed. His face covered in his iconic skeleton paint. His hair blonde hair black and his streak white. His eyes keep flashing between fully white, fully purple and normal.
"Holy shit" Steve gasps. Taker can feel a panic build in him. Leon's alive? Leon's like him? "No" Taker whispers. "Taker what the fuck is going on?" Steve demands. "Hol-hold on" Taker chokes holding his hand out. Steve watches as takers eyes roll back, tears rolling down his face.
"....le......o....n?"
"...w........l....e.."
"Le...on?"
"Leon!"
Leon's eyes snap open at the sound of his father's voice. "Your alive and I don't know where to find you. Come home to us, please." Taker pleads. Leon's eyes scan the room he's tied up in. Hooded figures. No Paul. No kane. He looks down at the metal restraints holding his arms to the wall. "Hes awake" one states, except Leon instantly knows its not English, its Latin. His years of training and hearing his father and uncle speak it together have immediately translated it to English for him.
He'll thank them one day.
"Master said to leave him. The hexes will keep him weak." The other states. Leon lift his gaze to the hexes. He tilts his head slightly and watches as a invisible finger starts to slowly draw through the hexes, breaking them. The fools don't even notice. Leon? Leon can't help but smile at his new power.
He looks back down at the restraints and tests them. A sudden strength runs through him and he breaks them. The hooded figures stop and stare at him shocked. Leon just tilts his head. 'This will be child's play' he smirks before stepping forward.
--
"Shawn!" John gasps as he forces his way into shawns hotel room. Shawn doesn't move. He just stays laid in bed, staring out of the window. It's his day off, he'll spend it how he damn wants. "Shawn! It's Leon!" Shawn sits up immediately and looks at John. "Leon? What about him?" Shawn's voice is rough from lack of use. "Hes alive, They are showing it on Smackdown! We have to get to the arena now!" John tells him. "You drive." Is all Shawn says before dragging him out.
-
Leon looks at the knocked out bodies on the floor. His gaze then turns to the skeleton blade placed on display like a trophy. Leon feels his scar itch even at the thought of what that blade did. And yet he still steps towards it, as if it calls for him.
He raises his hand and closes it around the bone handle.
"Return to us leon"
His eyes glow purple. 'Return home..' he thinks to himself. He scans the area one more time before it fades to black.
-
It doesn't take them long to get to the arena. It takes Leon even less time.
Taker opens his eyes as Paul rants and raves. That's when the lights turn out. "Taker?" Steve asks. "Not me.." Taker whispers. Hope fills taker. 'Hes received my call.'
The lights turn back on and that hope quickly turns to dread. Leon is stood behind Paul and whilst taker is glad he's alive, he sure as hell doesn't look it. His nornaly Ash like tan skin is a dead pale kind. He has deep black circles around his eyes. His hair is thin and wiry. He's thin, his bones visible. But taker knows this is his boy.
Leon tilts his head and that's when taker catches the blade in Leon's boney hands. "Leon! No!" Taker yells. Paul's eyes widen and he jerks forward and turns around. Taker doesn't hesitate to climb out of the ring. He stops at the bottom of the ramp when Paul moves to the side.
Shawns arms are wrapped around Leon. Leon is suddenly not the same person he saw five seconds ago. Leon is himself again. No longer dead looking. Zombie like. The blade falls from his hands as his eyes turn normal. He leans back against his Papa and closes his eyes. "My baby" Shawn whispers as he rests his cheeks against Leon's shoulder blades. "My baby is back to me" shawn whispers, tears escaping his eyes. Leon lowers his head, bringing a hand up rest against his papas.
"Home"
Shawn opens his eyes at the rough voice. He lifts his head slightly and watches as Taker rushes up the ramp, pulling both into a hug. "Welcome home" Taker whispers against Leon's once again full head of hair. "Welcome home." Taker repeats.
---------------------------------
Cassie smiles widely at her brother. "I told them you'd come back" she states. Leon just looks at her and nods. He hasn't spoken much since his return. Only the word home. "Dad's been working nonstop to rebuild the home. It looks amazing!" Cassie adds. Leon just smiles at her before turning his gaze to meet takers in the rear view mirror. Takers been keeping a close eye on him since he returned. He's not the only one who saw Leon in that state. The whole world did. The media believe wwe have just upped their special affects. Everyone at wwe have questions, but so does Taker. He doesn't know what to say to people. He doesn't even know what to ask Leon.
Shawn? Shawns completely ignoring anything that happened that day. He's just happy to have his family back.
Taker knows better than to push Shawn. Especially now.
He stops the car outside their rebuilt home. Charlie barks in the back seat. "Home" Leon whispers. All three glance at him. Taker wasn't sure how he'd react to seeing the house. But it was worth a shot. They climb out of the car, shawn last. Shawn hugs himself as he examines the house.
Flashes of it on fire shoot in his mind. But no. That's not where shawns trauma really lays. Unlike taker, he's not scared of the fire, just of those who set it. Those who use it to take the lives of others. Those who set the fire and then use a more cruel method to take a child's life.
Shawn turns his gaze too Leon who's staring at the house. Shawn steps closer and notices that Leon isn't staring, his eyes are rolled back. "Taker? Taker!" Shawn yells. Taker jerks forward and catches Leon as he falls back. Cassies eyes widen and Charlie growls, but not at them, at the woods. Taker looks towards the woods and his eyes immediately land on the shadow watching them. He looks away as a hand grabs his arm.
Taker looks to see Leon staring at him. "Leon?" Taker asks. "Sorry." Leon mutters standing on his own. "Im okay. I didn't mean to scare you lot. Its just been...a tough few months." Leon admits. "Its nice to hear you say more than home" cassie smiles. Leon nods and looks towards the woods. "He will cause no harm." Leon states. Shawn and cassie look at him confused. "Not to us. He's here to protect us. A little deal I made when I was down under." Leon adds. "I knew you'd goto hell. Hunter owes me 50" cassie states. "Of course he did." Shawn huffs. "The devil's a good guy. I understand the world differently now." Leon tells them.
Taker examines his sons. There's something different to it than a week ago when he rejoined them. "I understand." Leon tells him. "You shouldn't." Taker states. Leon just hums and looks back at the house. "I know. Now you and kane aren't alone. And now I'm home." Leon shrugs.
"Im glad your home and I'm glad we are all together again" Shawn states.
Taker glances at the shadow again as his family make their way inside. "Whats going to happen next?" He asks quietly.
ADRIAN LORE / #6
Adrian Kane is a 27 y/o from New York City. She was raised by her mother after her parents divorced. Her father owned property on Crockett Island, though she never visited him, and inherited it when he died. [just before e1.]
She decided to move to Crockett Island when she had trouble selling the property, fixing up the house and using it as an excuse to escape and start over completely fresh. Her legal name is Adrianna Jude, but she exclusively goes by Adrian and uses her mother's maiden name.
She experiences chronic pain and uses a cane due to severe injury in her childhood from a car accident, making it difficult for her to walk sometimes, so she uses a cane when needed.
She is not religious, but longed for a sense of community and to fit in, so she started attending church on the island. She arrived about a week before Paul, and the first mass she went to was also Paul's first. Because she was a new face, Paul quickly grew intrigued by her, and they bonded fairly quickly, even though Adrian tried to keep him at bay at first.
In this verse, Mildred passed away while Paul was away. The events of the show are much more prolonged, lasting nearly a year instead of only two months.
"Not Afraid of You Anymore"
Summary: After the 1998 Royal Rumble and an incident where Colin and Meredith are nearly kidnapped from their elementary school, Ashley comes back to WWF TV to address Paul Bearer and Kane. 17th installment of Two Brothers, One Friend, Many Stories series. Kayfabe details used only.
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the pro wrestling gimmicks/characters used here. I only own my original characters.
This month had just been getting worse and worse for Ashley McCormick. She had nightmares about the self defense killing she had committed; after the Royal Rumble, nightmares about the Undertaker, her best friend, being set on fire by Kane and Paul Bearer after Shawn Michaels had shut the Deadman in a casket, had been added to the mix. She was also struggling with the job hunting she had been doing. Could things get any worse than that?
Unfortunately, the answer was yes. Ashley was at home on Friday, January 23rd, 1998, 3 hours after her kids had gone to school. She was going to go out job hunting again, this time to an interview for a job at her home town's public library, but that thought of how that interview would go was interrupted by her home phone ringing. She picked it up. "Hello?"
"Mrs. McCormick, we've got some bad news." Mr. Fitzgerald, the principal of the elementary school Colin and Meredith attended, replied. He paused briefly. "Intruders came looking for Colin and Meredith. They weren't successful in kidnapping either one before police arrived..."
Ashley could only stare off into space as he continued. It was a good thing that Lucas was now in middle school and thus had not been targeted, but he would have to be told about this as soon as possible. Everything that had happened so far this month was getting to be too much for her. She knew she would have to give some kind of statement to the press as well as inform the rest of her family. After finally finding her voice again, she had thanked Mr. Fitzgerald for informing her of what had occurred and then hung up the phone. This was going to be a very long day and now she couldn't help but cry.
"Mark, I wish you were here. I'm going to break Shawn Michaels' nose if I see him again but first I have to find out who tried to take my kids." Ashley said to herself.
The rest of the day was a blur; Ashley had driven to the middle school to get Lucas and then went to pick up Colin and Meredith from the elementary school. She wound up being interviewed by a police detective in her home afterwards and canceling the job interview from the library by phone. Then she had called her parents to tell them the news and they passed it on to the rest of her relatives. Next, Ashley, Lucas, Colin, and Meredith wound up having McDonald's food for lunch and then stayed inside the house as a blizzard started outside. Colin only briefly went out to get the mail and found a letter from Kane for his mother. He brought it in and made sure the front door was shut and locked.
Ashley took the letter and read it; she wasn't sure how this letter had gotten to her, but she opened it anyway and read it out loud.
The letter said "Dear Ashley, I'm sorry for what happened on Sunday night. I didn't think that Mark should be burned alive, but Paul threatened me. It couldn't really be seen on TV, but I really didn't want to go through with it. He said that he was going to punish me for my reluctance by going after you and your children. I don't know why since you have been staying out of this and not talking much about what goes on in the WWF with Mark. I might not like him right now, but not to the point of having wished him dead. If it's any consolation, Shawn Michaels has a bad back injury and might not have an in-ring career for much longer. I wish I hadn't done what I did and I wouldn't blame you if you never forgave me. My parents definitely wouldn't do so if they were still here. I miss you, Ashley, and I'm sorry. Best regards, Kane. PS, Mr. McMahon thinks putting you back on TV might be a great idea according to rumors I've heard. I don't agree with him. Also, I apologized to the other individuals that got set on fire by me and the WWF is covering their medical expenses."
"Mom, are you going to give this letter to the police?" Colin asked; he was still shaken by almost being kidnapped.
"I think we should. Because if Paul Bearer really is behind this and hired those two guys who tried to abduct you and Meredith, this could be useful to making him pay for it legally." Ashley answered; she wasn't sure whether she was angry with Kane, but she was certainly angry with Paul Bearer. She then went into her room and first called the police detective that had interviewed her earlier using her cell phone and asked him if she should fax a copy of the letter. When he had said yes and that the contents would not be made public aside from Kane's mention that it was done as a punishment, she thanked him and hung up the phone before faxing said copy. She then went downstairs to prepare supper, feeling as though nothing would get better for her at that point.
It was the next Monday, January 26th, 1998 and the WWF roster was now in Davis, California. Kane was once again left in a hotel room to his own thoughts as Paul Bearer went out to restock their traveling supplies. He had heard rumors that Ashley was going to be here tonight to address him and Paul Bearer to air her grievances about recent events while her children stayed with their aunt, uncle, and cousins overnight. The masked man wasn't sure if he'd be able to face her in person again.
Kane thought of that long ago trip to Niagara Falls and how many photos Caroline Williams had taken. Then he thought of how Ashley had said "Mark, Kane, one day when we're all adults, we can come back here and take another photo of all 3 of us standing with the Toronto skyline in the background as a way of showing how some things have changed and others haven't."
Kane took his mask off and buried his face in his hands to cry, guilt threatening to overwhelm him. That suggestion Ashley had made long ago was definitely not going to happen now. He was too much of a monster for there to be anything left of the younger brother who had admired his older brother and said older brother's friend and had wanted to be great like them. At least, that was what he thought.
Kane quickly wiped away his tears and slipped his mask back on. He did not want Paul Bearer to see him in an emotional state that would make him look weak in the eyes of some individuals. At least he would find out if the rumors were true that night.
It was after Kane had attacked Vader that night that Ashley had made her onscreen return post commercial break. While the Big Red Machine and Paul Bearer weren't physically present in the ring with her, she was still yelling angrily. At the moment, she was wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, white socks, and light blue tennis shoes.
"Paul Bearer, Kane, I have a lot to say that I want to be heard, not just by you two but by the entire world! 1998 has not been a great year for me so far. My previous boss died of cancer, I had to kill a man in self defense, I watched my best friend the Undertaker get shut in a casket and set on fire on live television, and two people tried to kidnap two of my children!" Ashley paused briefly before continuing. "Kane, you wrote me a letter saying that the last thing would likely be done to punish you for being reluctant to go through with the 3rd thing, but I didn't receive it until after the near kidnapping had happened. Paul Bearer, I am not afraid of you anymore like I was when I was a child! I'm also not surprised that you likely have found out the name of the town I currently reside in since it's easy to acquire a phone book or get someone to hack a computer system to find that information. If you were the one behind almost kidnapping my youngest son and my daughter, you better hope that I don't find you!"
The audience cheered in response to this message before Ashley left the ring. Saying all of that had felt cathartic. She would not get revenge on Shawn Michaels since him injuring his back had made his win over the Undertaker a Pyrrhic victory. For now though, she left the Davis Recreation Hall and returned to the airport for her flight home. While on the plane, she fell asleep and had a weird dream.
In this dream, Ashley seemed to be in what looked like the same cemetery that the Calaway parents were buried in. It was cold and dark and she felt uneasy. She was alone but not for long.
"It is going to take a lot more to keep me down than having been set on fire, old friend." A familiar voice said to her.
Ashley turned to see the Undertaker standing right behind her. "Mark? I've missed you so much!"
The single mom did not get to hear the reply before she woke up to find out that the plane would be landing soon. She got her things together after the aircraft had landed and come to a complete stop and then got off. She then drove home, wondering if that dream meant anything at all.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
— Romans 8:35-39
~~~~~
Nothing
By Jennifer Kane
Trouble? I’ve faced it before, and as I live, more shall come.
But nothing.
Hardship? Yes, the stormy weather in my ship of life has squalled before.
But nothing.
Persecution?
Like an army of ants—felt in the sting, unseen until then.
But nothing.
Famine?
I’ve been blessed to avoid it, though others less fortunate have known it.
But nothing.
I have faced dangers,
Life threatened by mishap or accident.
But nothing.
Whether my Death—
Or the distractions of Life—
Nothing.
Beyond the visible and into the unseen,
Not Angels in all their radiance,
Nor Demons cloaked in their own light,
Not the present, not the future,
No Height,
No Depth,
Not even my doubts,
My weaknesses,
My Failures, mistakes,
Separation from others,
Little fears or towering ones,
The vast unknown,
Not anything in all creation—
Nothing—physical, spiritual, or conceptual—
Has the power to come between God’s love and me.
~~~~~
Scriptures: Romans 8:35-39
As believers, the security of God’s love gives us an unshakeable foundation. Paul’s words remind us that no one can bring a charge against us when God, the ultimate judge, has declared us “not guilty.” In His court, we stand justified, not because of our actions, but because of Christ’s sacrifice and intercession on our behalf.
Who Shall Condemn Us? When accusations arise, whether from our own minds, others, or spiritual forces, we remember that Jesus is our advocate. The One who died and rose for us actively promotes our well-being before the Father. With such a mighty defender, all condemnation falls powerless.
More “more than conquerors” means that through Christ’s love, we rise above every hardship, not just surviving but overcoming in a way that transforms us. This victory isn’t in our own strength but in the power of Jesus. It is a victory rooted in love, a love that doesn’t fade with difficulty but grows deeper.
Consider how God calls us to conquer—not by seeking revenge or dominance, but by showing patience and extending grace even to those who oppose us. This is the love that enables us to withstand trials with confidence, knowing that nothing, not even death, can pull us away from God’s grasp. When we face famine or need, God provides; when we face “the sword” or threats, we endure with courage in His presence.
Paul ends with an unshakable truth: “Nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God.” Remember that Nothing. Nothing. There is no power in the universe, no hardship, and no sin that can diminish God’s love for us. We are secure, surrounded by His grace. In this love, we find peace, strength, and hope that lasts beyond this life.
Reflect today on any area in your life where fear or doubt may creep in. Remind yourself that, in Christ, you are more than a conqueror, and absolutely NOTHING can separate you from God’s love. Let this truth deepen your faith and empower you to love others with the same confidence and compassion.
~~~~~
Heavenly Father, thank You for the assurance of Your unbreakable love. And the assurance of “Nothing”. So when doubts or accusations rise against me, even if its in my own mind, please remind me that You have declared me “not guilty” and that Jesus is my advocate. Help me to rest in the security of Your love, knowing that nothing in this world can separate me from You.
Lord, give me strength to face trials with the heart of a conqueror, empowered by the love of Christ. Teach me to love even those who don’t, to endure with patience, and to seek Your glory in every battle I face. Thank You for the hope and peace that Your love brings. I trust that no matter what comes, I am held securely in Your arms.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
