Atractiva nómina para el 21k y el maratón de Medellín

Fuente: RunningColombia El Maratón Medellín 2023 de este 3 de septiembre será la carrera de las cifras récord, para la prueba que llega a su edición 29, ya que competirán 18.600 atletas, se tendrá la Expo Runners más grande y se contará con el lote de atletas élite más numeroso de su historia. En total serán más de 50 atletas profesionales en las distancias de los 42 y los 21 kilómetros. El grupo lo encabeza Jeison Suárez, del Equipo Élite Asics, campeón del año pasado en la distancia de maratón, en la que su compañero Franklin Téllez terminó segundo, y también estará en la línea de partida. Jeisson impuso el mejor tiempo de la carrera (2:15:53), desde que se llevó a cabo la distancia de los 42 km por primera vez, en 2012, en la prueba que nació en 1994 y que desde 1996 comenzó a disputarse como media maratón. Jeison Suárez es el actual campeón y recordista del Maratón Medellín (2:15:53) En total, para la XXIX edición de la carrera medellinense se inscribieron más de 18.600 atletas, de los cuales 3.500 serán para los 42 km, más de 8.000 para los 21 km, 5.000 para 10 km y 1.500 para 5 km. Y en cuanto a los atletas élite habrá un lote de más de 20 corredores y más de 30 para los 21 kilómetros, lo que garantiza un gran espectáculo en estas dos distancias, que partirán a las 5:30 de la mañana de este domingo 3 de septiembre. 『A Magazine Curated By』のバックナンバーの中でも、特に人気を博し��長らく絶版となっていた『A Magazine Curated By Maison Martin Margiela』の限定復刊版。2004年に初版が発行された本誌は、「アントワープ・シックス（Antwerp Six）」と呼ばれる、ベルギー人ファッションデザイナーのグループの一人であり、また教育者でもあるウォルター・ヴァン・ベイレンドンク（Walter Van Beirendonck）が、新しい世紀の始まりに生み出したベルギー発の雑誌『A Magazine』のルーツを辿ることが出来る一冊である。

本誌は、創刊号から『N°A』『N°B』『N°C』『N°D』『N°E』 と続いた後に、初めてタイトルにメゾンの名前が冠された号である。これは、チームとしての活動を重んじたマルジェラの精神を表すものでもあった。マルジェラの示唆に富んだキュレーションによって、舞台裏で匿名的に活躍したメゾンの創作に欠くことが出来ないコラボレーター達の存在が、誌面を通して明らかになっている。本誌は、マルジェラ本人だけに注目するのではなく、スタッフ、インターン、モデル、アーティスト、フォトグラファー、ミュージシャン、セットデザイナー、フィルムメイカーなど、メゾンに関わるあらゆる人物が残した言葉、写真、映像によって、メゾンのチームとしての活動を誌面上に蘇らせようとしている。こうして、初版の発行から20年近く経った今でも復刊が待ち望まれていたことは、『A Magazine』が、タイムレスなコンテンツを発信し続けてきたことの証でもある。また本誌は、服、写真、キャスティング、コミュニケーションに至るまで、メゾンのあらゆる活動に貫かれていた「古い構造を破壊し、新たな構造を生成する」というダダイスト的な脱構築の表現が、現代においても、その独自性を失ってないことを明らかにする。また、紙から印刷に至るまで、初版を完全に再現しており、裏表紙には現編集部による今回の再版企画の解説文を記載している。

更に今回の復刻版には、マーク・ボスウィック（Mark Borthwick）、アンダース・エドストローム（Anders Edström）、マリーナ・ファウスト（Marina Faust）、ジョナサン・ハラム（Jonathan Hallam）、オラ・リンダル（Ola Rindal）、ロナルド・ストゥープス（Ronald Stoops）によるフォトプリント（240 mm x 180 mm / サインなし）いずれか1枚が付属。本誌の売上の一部は、地中海を渡��ヨーロッパ諸国に逃れてくる移民や難民を支援する「Sea Watch」及び「RIACE」のチャリティ団体に、出版社を通して寄付される。

2009年にブランドを去ったマルタン・マルジェラは、現在はベルギーで彫刻を主媒体とするアーティストとして活動。ブランドは2015年に「メゾン・マルジェラ」へと名前を変え、イギリス人ファッションデザイナーのジョン・ガリアーノ（John Galliano）がメゾンのコードをアップデートし続けている。

復刻版の刊行に合わせ、フランス人映画監督のアレクサンドル・シルバースタイン（Alexandre Silberstein）による5部作の映像作品が『A Magazine』のウェブサイト及びSNS上で公開される。2004年の初版制作の舞台裏を撮影した貴重な映像のほか、「メゾン・マルタン・マルジェラ」のオリジナルメンバーによるナレーションも収録。また、復刻版を被写体にした、日本人写真家のオトベ・ケイスケによるスチルライフ写真も同時公開される。

Violent clashes erupt at ‘Unite the Right’ rally in Charlottesville, Va.

One person was killed in Virginia on Saturday after white nationalists clashed with counter-demonstrators and a car plowed into a crowd near the scene of the earlier melee, the mayor of Charlottesville said.

The clashes on Saturday morning prompted the governor to declare an emergency and halt a rally over removing a Confederate general’s statue from a public park.

“I am heartbroken that a life has been lost here,” Charlottesville Mayor Mike Singer said on his Twitter feed. “I urge all people of good will – go home.” He did not give details of who died and what caused the death.

“I am praying that God help us all,” Vice Mayor Wes Bellamy said in an interview with CNN. “We are better than this.”

Tensions in the city intensified when at least one vehicle plowed into a crowd of people gathered in a street two blocks from the park. Multiple people were injured in the incident, the Charlottesville Police Department said on its Facebook page. (Reuters)

It says a lot about the dire situation currently facing the fashion industry that even a critically lauded, multiple award-winning luxury label finds itself undertaking drastic cost-cutting measures. As per WWD, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s The Row has confirmed it is actively trying to reduce overheads in lieu of the ongoing pandemic.

The initial article that appeared on WWD quoted a source that claimed The Row may have to scale back its operations and even possibly discontinue its menswear line. It states 50 percent of staff have been shed, including womenswear co-design directors James Robinson and Anna Sophia Hövener, as well as founding head menswear designer, Paul Helbers. This led WWD to speculate that its menswear line — which only launched in 2018 — may close altogether, but a statement from the company in the updated piece would refute that. It read:

“Like all retail brands, the company responsibly reduced overhead to address what we all hope will be a temporary disruption of the supply chain due to the global pandemic. The Row is steadfastly committed to and maintains a diverse and inclusive workplace. We are not going to comment on the other inaccurate gossip about our business, other than to say we are excited about The Row’s future, including our men’s wear line, accessories, our e-commerce business and our future profitability.”

Prior to Covid-19, the idea of The Row — whose guffaw-worthy price points are comparable to established houses like Bottega Veneta — selling at discount retailers would have seemed preposterous. The Olsen’s have intentionally tried to cultivate an aura of mystery, whether that’s running its stores (and official Instagram) like art spaces or ensuring only a certain esteemed few are invited to attend its runway shows. Surprisingly, the source states that the company has made the decision to liquidate “a considerable amount” of merchandise to off-price channels in an attempt to drum up cash. Still, we’d wager the chances of a $39,000 alligator hide backpack turning up at your local TJ Maxx remains unlikely.

Elsewhere, the article claims that, aside from financial hardship, The Row has also faced internal difficulties over racial inequality within its corporate headquarters. Here, the source claims it employs no black professionals and “very few” employees of Asian descent, with the latter excluded from promotions and raises even after years of working at the company. The Row declined to comment on this matter, as the statement above confirms.

Named after London’s Savile Row, the Olsen twins launched The Row in 2006. Renowned for its elegant staples and masterful tailoring, it has amassed a legion of hardcore fans among women and men alike, with celebrity admirers as varied as Michelle Obama and Jonah Hill. It has been nominated for 11 CFDA Awards, winning Womenswear Designer of the Year on two occasions.

Literature loves a hoax—the Daily itself may have perpetrated one as recently as yesterday, though you didn’t hear it from me. Clifford Irving, who’s responsible for one of the great written ruses of the past fifty years, isn’t given the credit he deserves as a creative liar. Paul Elie tells his story: “Irving, while living in Ibiza in 1971, concocted a bogus autobiography of Howard Hughes, the reclusive billionaire tycoon. Irving, a Manhattan-born author of three novels that had sold poorly, saw it as a low-risk, high-adrenaline stunt, a kick at the pricks of New York literary society. It was the kind of thing a writer could try and hope to get away with in the days before the Internet laid all—or most—fraudsters bare. That ‘stunt’ turned Irving into the Leif Erikson of literary hoaxsters. (The forged Hitler Diaries would not appear until the 1980s.) Irving got advances upward of $750,000 from McGraw-Hill; fooled the publisher, handwriting experts, and Life magazine’s editors; and stirred the publicity-loathing Hughes to comment—all of which seems to surprise him even now. ‘I was a writer, not a hoaxer. As a writer, you are constantly pushing the envelope, testing what people will believe, and once you get going you say, They believed that; maybe they��ll believe this … ’ ”
