I just watched Insatiable for the first time and, what the hell did I watched?
Hating on Patty was worth it all along, but it was boring and boring watching her do again and again the same mistakes. She was unlikable.
Nonnies character was hidden and made uninteresting when she had the greatest potential.
I watched only for other Bob, who was, by far, the best character of the whole series. He was deep, and well written. Loved him! (but I'll never forgive the writers for making him polyamourous and getting forced to choose only for Coralee and hot Bob to have (no matter how platonic) a relationship)

Netflix’s Insatiable is NOT about “being skinny makes everything better”
It’s the fucking opposite, people. Patty loses weight, then realizes that it literally solves NOTHING she thought it would. She literally says that losing all that weight didn’t bring about any improvement in her life, even if it may seem like it from the outside. In season 2, her little sister keeps insisting that Patty’s life IS perfect and Patty keeps explaining that no, in fact, it is the opposite, because her problems did not magically disappear. Her mental issues are there, her insecurities are there, her eating disorder is there. Getting skinny solved nothing for her. Yes, at first it does seem like she has it all, then the realization slowly dawns on her, that fuck, skinny doesn’t mean shit. Please, PLEASE at least watch a full season of a series before boycotting it entirely. STOP FUCKING JUDGING BOOKS BY THEIR COVERS, BECAUSE IT’S THE EXACT THING YOU’RE CLAIMING TO BE OFFENDED ABOUT.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Insatiable Preferences | First Kiss
Characters: Patty Bladell, Nonnie Thompson, Brick Armstrong, Magnolia Barnard, Christian Keene
Patty Bladell
Tumblr media
You were both sitting in her room. She just had a binge episode and was balling about her absolutely horrible and guilty she felt. She called you because if anyone could understand her, it was you. As Patty finally calmed down and tried to wipe her tears, she looked into your eyes, feeling herself lean in without even being well aware of it. As she pressed in and lifted her lips from yours, you couldn't help but blush and smile sheepishly, turning your face away. She turned you back and went in for more, turning it into a full makeout session.
Nonnie Thompson
Tumblr media
You were both just rewatching old rom-coms, laughing at each cliche and nearly crying at each dramatic scene. As the man in the film finally wraps his arm around this lover, pulling for a tight hug, you look over to Nonnie. Her shoulders tense up until you rub your hand up her forearm when she turns to face you. You both lean in for a kiss. After you both pull away from one another, you both end up finishing the movie in a comfortable silence between the two. You were so nonchalant and relaxed while she was flustered and a bit nervous as well.
Brick Armstrong
Tumblr media
You were sitting on his bed, helping him study and catch up on notes that he missed in class. While you were chewing down the sandwich that he brought you earlier, you had a smudge of jelly left on the space between your chin and bottom lip. You tried to get it off when he pointed it but only smeared it to the left. Brick took the extra napkin that was on the plate and carefully dabbed the jelly off. While he was close, he decided to let go of the napkin and lay a small kiss on your lips. Flustered and shy, he pulls back while chuckling. He asks you out on a date and you gleefully say yes.
Magnolia Barnard
Tumblr media
Sitting in the car in the middle of the night, you were listening to Magnolia go on the verge of crying as her parents were fighting in the house right in front of you. You offered to go somewhere far but she declined and just wanted to stay close to home. As you tell her how strong she is, she holds your hand looks you in the eyes. She leans in until you finally give her the kiss that you have always wanted from her. When you pull away, she quickly goes back and escalates the situation into something more.
Christian Keene
Tumblr media
It was midnight and you were both on the bench in the park. Patty had warned you of his past in Brazil earlier at school and you just confronted Christian, scared of what might happen if you continued the relationship. As he confessed and told the truth about his past, you start to feel frightened but he quickly holds your hand and pulls you tightly into his chest. He lifts your chin up with his right hand and lays a small kiss on your lips before pulling back in tightly, consistently reassuring you that he loves you and wouldn't dare to hurt you at all.

Tropes Insatiable (Netflix) subverted
Asian and Nerdy: Dixie Sinclair is really ignorant. She doesn’t even see herself as Asian, identifying as “adopted” instead. Henry is smart, but doesn’t act like the typical nerd at all, being revealed to be a stripper of all things.
All Asians Know Martial Arts: Henry practices caopeira, but only uses it for dancing. Patty is the one who ends up using it for combat.
All Girls Want Bad Boys: Initially Patty’s romance with Christian is this... until she finds out he is actually bad, as in, kidnapper and potential murderer levels of bad, and tries to manipulate her into keeping a demon in her body because it’s “theirs” (a strange metaphor for pregnancy, works with the earlier episode wherein Patty thinks she’s pregnant but is revealed to have a teratoma).
Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Rather than the stereotypical person with ADD who can’t focus on anything to save their life, Dixie has self-described over-focused ADD. She compares it to a dog with a bone- never lets go.
Double Standard: Rape, Female on Male: 100% subverted with Regina and Brick. While Brick doesn’t consider himself to be a victim, his parents do and are horrified upon finding out she slept with him, and ends up getting her arrested.
Females Are More Innocent: The show has an equal female to male villain ratio. Regina Sinclair is the Card-Carrying Villain type which is usually found in male characters.
First Girl Wins: Given the fact that the second season ended with Magnolia and Brick together, maybe not.
Happily Adopted: More like happily kidnapped in Dixie’s case.
Jerk Jock: Brick is quite nice by Insatiable standards. Even his asshole moments pale in comparison to other characters in the series.
Never a Self-Made Woman: Nearly all women in the series who are in powerful positions got there 100% by themselves.
No Bisexuals: Bob A describes himself as bisexual (and is quite confused as to why Bob B doesn’t see himself as one).
Hollywood Autism: Rather than be an Insufferable Genius, Dixie manages to be... very dumb.

Insatiable Season 2 | TV Show Review
Tumblr media
Summary
A disgraced, dissatisfied civil lawyer-turned-beauty pageant coach takes on a vengeful, bullied teenager as his client and has no idea what he's about to unleash upon the world.

Thoughts
When people criticised season 1, I thought Insatiable was not as intolerable as people were describing it to be. In fact, I enjoyed season 1 despite all its stupidity. Which was why I had expectations for season 2, especially when this new season took more than a year to be released. Needless to say, I was utterly disappointed by season 2.
Insatiable was initially a black comedy and I enjoyed the dark humour but in season 2, this show just went down a completely different path. Yes, it was still dark or got even darker because of the amount of murders. And the stupidity was definitely still present which only made things worse for season 2. But you know what is missing? The comedy bit. I do not remember laughing in any of the ten episodes. I cannot even begin to explain how much I disliked Insatiable season 2.
Plot
One main reason this season went downhill was the fact that this season had too much going on at once, while not having anything going at the same time. It is a big fat plot-mess. I know, what I just said was confusing and contradicting. Let’s put it this way, Insatiable season 2 has too many small plots but none working together with the main plot.
I appreciated the writers for shedding more light on Patty’s binge eating disorder. Also other topics such as Bob’s suicidal tendencies, Magnolia’s amnesia because of drug abuse or trauma, and last but not least, the cluelessness one can suffer from after high school (mainly Brick’s story). Coming from someone who can be quite clueless on what she wants to do sometimes, I understand what Brick felt or went through. Unfortunately, all that goodness went down the drain the second the writers decided to up the kill count and the number of cover ups that came with it.
Like I said, this season was a huge mess.
Cast (characters, character development and cast’s acting, etc.)
I have so much criticism in this section. Let’s begin with Patty Bladell. I love Debby Ryan, I think her portrayal as Patty was a little cringe-y at times but I still love her. Though, I cannot say the same about her character, Patty. During season 1, I thought Patty was okay but her character development in season 2 was so shitty. I did not like her killings at all, and I did not like that she kept coming up with shitty excuses for them. Apart from the gangsters/drug dealers, there were better ways to deal with Patty’s victims rather than murder. So yes, whatever excuses she came up with were bullshit to me.
I admit, Bob Armstrong pissed me off during the first half of season 2. However, he redeemed himself later on. Dallas Roberts did a wonderful job as Bob and I am glad at least his character did not go spiral down into nothing like Patty. Although...Bob and Angie is a just no-no. When they kissed, I thought it felt so forced like the show could go on without that part happening.
What I wanted was for Coralee and Bob to work out. Or at least not have that arch nemesis relationship they suddenly developed in season 2. But I can also see why Coralee’s anger can be justified. What Bob did to Coralee got him what he deserved. Even after the whole ordeal, Coralee still cared about Bob and that is obvious, especially when the fainting part came in. Just saying, I’m referring to Bob Armstrong here, not Bob Barnard.
Which brings me to Bob Barnard. He is a whole lot of mess in season 2. His scenes were completely irrelevant. I do not know why is he in season 2 at all. Really. Take out his parts, nothing much changes in season 2.
The one person who truly disappointed me in season 2 was Brick. I did not like how he treated Patty even though she was not so caring to him either. And the fact that he ran back to Magnolia after he got dumped by Patty? Why did Magnolia just get back together with Brick like that? Magnolia can do better than Brick.
Lastly, Dixie’s scenes were surprisingly pleasant. One reason being she was less annoying and vindictive in season 2. I do not understand why was it necessary to start a whole new story with her biological family and whatnot though, but at least that brought in Alex Landi’s Henry right?
Conclusion
Writing this review just got me feeling more irritated with season 2. I am ending the review here by, once more, saying Insatiable season 2 was a big disappointment.
Rating: D
PS: D is my failing grade.

Watch Insatiable if you want:
- at least 5 LGBTQ characters
- fairly diverse cast
- demons
- exorcisms
- beauty pageants
- a pedophile/r*pist WHO GOES TO JAIL LIKE EZRA SHOULD HAVE IN PLL
- kidnappings and failed kidnappings
- wiener tacos
- a moronic mother/daughter duo who somehow pull off so many schemes even though they have about 7 brain cells between the two of them
- 2 guys who seem like fuqbois but are actual sweethearts
- laugh out loud idiotic characters
- a main character who may or may not be the villain
- a show that shows, through over-the-top drama and comedy, that just because you’re pretty on the outside doesn’t mean you’re pretty on the inside
On a real note, Insatiable isn’t the villainous show it’s been made out to be. It’s not a revenge story. It’s a story about a girl who goes through a dramatic weight loss and expects her life to be perfect because she’s thinner. But, of course, it’s not. She learns the hard way that being a good person is far more important than being attractive. This is a much better “controversial” Netflix show than 13 Reasons Why. It’s goofy and campy and shows that being thin doesn’t mean anything if you’re a bad person.

Brick, I know you sometimes have the emotional awareness of a literal brick, but please, you’re talking to Patty, the queen of having issues with her parents. Not only does she not know who her dad is, her mom who spent most of her time being a narcissistic POS when Patty grew up abandoned her at her birthday party when Patty already had issues with people leaving her, and she has still not come home, and judging by what we’ve seen so far, it seems she hasn’t called Patty either.
Implying to an emotionally unstable person that they’re lucky and that you have it worse than them when you’re privileged enough to live with two parents who love you (while they’re not perfect and make mistakes, they do objectively love him), is such an asshole move. Come on, Brick. Don’t be like this.
