¿Qué ventajas le has visto?

Tumblr media

Everything in slow motion as former Purefoods stars get together in Leyte charity game
CHARITY games in Ormoc, Leyte became the perfect opportunity for the core of the old Purefoods squad to get together for a long-overdue reunion over the weekend.
On the initiative of Rey Evangelista, four-time MVP Alvin Patriminio, Dindo Pumaren, Glenn Capacio and other vanguards of the Purefoods team that won nine championships together during the nineties returned to the court in the popular franchise’s old blue and white jerseys.
“Masaya,” Evangelista, a former All-Defensive Team mainstay who played all his 14 seasons with Purefoods, said of the game against an Ormoc selection that raised funds for the various socio-civic programs of the Ormoc City Host Lions, of which Evangelista is one of the leaders.
Also joining the team were Nelson Asaytono, who started his career as Patrimonio’s back-up at Purefoods before suiting up for Swift and San Miguel; Rodney Santos, Roger Yap, Reuben Dela Rosa, Peter Naron, and man-mountain Bonel Balingit.
Balingit, who suited up for Purefoods briefly in the late stage of his career, came in from Cebu, Naron joined the team from Tagbilaran, Bohol while Dela Rosa made the drive from Capoocan, Leyte where he is now based.
Too bad Jerry Codinera and Bong Ravena were unable to join the reunion as they are part of the coaching staff of TNT KaTropa, which is playing San Miguel in the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
The Purefoods greats lost both games at the Tacloban Astrodome and the Ormoc City Superdome, but Evangelista said everyone had a grand time especially Pumaren and Capacio, who rarely join PBA greats in exhibition games.
Evangelista said it was also nice to see the PBA greats do their signature moves – only a tad slower.
“Nakikita mo pa rin yung mga galaw nila nung kalakasan pa nila,” the former national player said. “Puro bumagal na.nga lang.” – Spin.ph

(2/2) A six-time pro league champion who called it quits in 2004, Patrimonio admitted he finds it not that easy to keep his emotions in check as a team official. “Hindi mo lang mailabas. Whereas ‘pag player ka, nailalabas mo through game,” he said. Sounding professional as ever been, Patrimonio admitted the latest twist on their blockbuster matchup should only provide better treat to fans, saying: “‘Til the last minute, talagang digit talaga. It’s good for the league talaga. Nakakatuwa. And what the Hotshots should observe in Game 5? Patriminio said: “Of course huwag magpapaapekto sa crowd and sa mga referees. Cto.

Patrimonio admits getting carried away by emotions in tense Game 4
One of the most mild mannered figures—both as a player and now a team official—seen by many in the pro ranks, Patrimonio got carried away by his emotions early in the final canto after the Hotshots picked up three quick fouls in less than a minute.
Making matters worse was Gin Kings big man Dave Marcelo got away with a traveling violation that led to a Kevin Ferrer bucket, stretching their lead to 69-62.
Initially, it was Hotshots coach Chito Victolero who blew his top as he immediately rushed to a game official and, in the process, was slapped with a technical foul for crossing the hash line.
That prompted Patrimonio to stand up from his seat at the Star’s bench and express his own view on game officials, only to be restrained quick by Hotshots team governor Rene Pardo.
“Nadala lang (ng emosyon),” was how Patrimonio, now 50, described the incident to a pair of veteran sports scribes at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum hallway after emerging from Star’s dugout following a 93-86 loss to Barangay Ginebra.
“Nakita naman natin na dikit naman ‘yun game kahit na may ano,” he added, before taking a pause. “But I’m very proud of the players kasi lumalaban sila ’til the end.”
One of only two players who bagged four MVP titles, Patrimonio admitted he’s more bent on helping the Hotshots regain their focus, with the series now down to a virtual best-of-3 series starting with Game 5 on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Nothing comes easy in life. Kailangan paghirapan ‘yung magandang result,” he stressed. “Iri-remind na lang namin ‘yung mga boys na this is now just a best-of-3. We have to respect Ginebra rin kasi maganda rin ‘yung game plan nila.

(2/3) Here are his Top Five: Danny Ildefonso Patromino passed the torch to Danny I when the former was at the twilight of his career, lauding his successor for his array of moves down low.  “Nung nag-retire ako nandun pa siya,” Patrimonio said of the two-time MVP. “Madami ring moves pag sa ilalim.” Reynel Hugnatan Some would be surprised to see the Meralco veteran in this list. Yet Patrimonio included him for his high basketball IQ, saying the Meralco veteran knows when to attack the paint and when to take the midrange jumper. Like Patrimonio, Hugnatan developed a dependable three-point shot late in his career. Ranidel de Ocampo It’s easy to include RDO on any all-time list (he was part of Vergel Meneses’ list of five best scorers since his retirement). The versatile TNT star’s post game is as deadly as his perimeter play, becoming one of the first to be called a 'stretch-4' when people started coining the term. “Ganun din, inside and outside din siya,” Patrimonio said of the Gilas Pilipinas veteran. Marc Pingris Ping took over Patrimino as Purefoods’ best big man, probably also mimicking his predecessor’s moves. Patrimonio admitted. “(Gusto ko rin) yung athleticism niya, yung passion niya for the game,” he added of the man who was once the heart and soul of the national team. June Mar Fajardo The San Miguel Beer superstar, barring any major injury, is set to not only match, but exceed Patriminio’s and Fernandez’s record four MVPs. And the 6-foot-10 slotman’s sheer size is what makes him unstoppable – apart from his developing post game. “Ang laki eh. Paano mo pipigilan yun?” Patrimonio asked. Cto.

(1/2) Alvin Patrimonio lists five best post-up players he's seen since his retirement THE game has evolved so much that when we asked Alvin Patrimonio who he thinks are the best post-up players since he retired, 'The Captain' joked the traditional big men are already a dying breed. “Mayroon pa ba?” he asked with a smile in a recent chat with SPIN.ph as he spoke about an era in the pro league where guards are usually the focal point of a team’s offense and big men are spending less time at the low post and shooting more from the outside. Turning serious, Patrimonio, definitely the best post-up player during his time, had to take a long pause before figuring out who to put on his list of probable successors. The 6-foot-3 Patrimonio, who retired in 2004 as only the second player in PBA history after the great Mon Fernandez to win four league MVP trophies, rattled off some qualities of being a great back-to-the basket post-up player. “Ganun naman dapat ang post players eh, palaging strong to the hoop. Gusto mo palagi na and-one,” said the 16-year veteran, who finished his career at No. 3 in the all-time scoring list (15,091) and No. 4 in rebounds (6,152). “May good hands, nakaka-finish. Parang wala ng gumagawa ngayon,” the 50-year-old Patriminio, now the team manager of Star, added. Cto.
