“A mother doesn’t wake up one morning not loving her son. The only thing that’s gonna happen is I’ll love you more and more. And you’ll be the one loving me less and less, but life works that way. We deal with it.”

Bon Cop Bad Cop 2 (2017)
Genre: Action/Comedy
Who’s In It: Colm Feore, Patrick Huard
Who Directed It: Alain Desrochers
Plot:  A francophone S.Q. officer and an anglophone O.P.P officer reunite to investigate a large car theft ring led by an Italian mobster.
Running Time: 126 Minutes
IMDB Score: 6.6
Why I Watched It: Saw and liked the first one so why not.
How I Watched It: Netflix Canada
Random Thoughts: So this is a Canadian film and even though the title is partly in French it’s not a subtitled film, the first one had more French in it.  I enjoyed the first one a lot but I have to say I saw it at a Drive-In and the other feature was Snakes On A Plane, so it was a fun movie night under the stars.
Here’s a pet peeve of my, big gaps between sequels this one is 11 years after the first one, for me this is too long, once you get past five years there’s seems to be little reason to go back.  Some of the worst sequels I’ve seen are the ones with too much time in between.  If you had a good idea and a sequel was needed and wanted you would have done it sooner.
What I Liked: This is a throw back and yes it’s similar to the first one but at it’s core it’s a buddy cop movie and yes it’s very Canadian, this hits me cause I’m an English Canadian living in Quebec so the jokes probably hit harder for me.
The main thing this has going for it is the chemistry between Feore and Huard, they carry the film and I liked that they had them friends here instead of going back and just redoing the first, they work very well together and Colm Feore is not only a Canadian National treasure he’s such a good actor and one that is so underrated.
The film does have good energy and it moves well enough but you feel the film really being carried by the two leads cause the plot is nothing to write home about.
What I Didn’t Like: Let’s get it out of the way it’s not as good as the first one and the thing that got me is this one isn’t very funny and it’s not biting at all, they try jokes but their lazy and the plot is just recycled cliches from other action movies.
The film is way too long, come on over two hours the plot is paper thin now sure the actors make most of it work but it’s boring at times and really uninspired.
The tone of the film is also different from the first and it’s a bit jarring, this one is more drama than comedy, they even throw in an illness and the film just seems a bit of a downer.  Lot’s of family drama and it comes off as melodrama and it hurts the flow of the film.  If you wait 11 years for a sequel you better have a good story and they didn’t.  The action is by the numbers and the finale is beyond cliched.  The try to make the film like we’re revisiting old friends but it’s not a fun visit.
Final Thoughts: The film is fine but really adds nothing to the first one, if you’re a fan of either actor it’s worth a watch.
Rating: 5/10

Bonne Saint-Jean-Baptiste!! ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
No Québécois would be caught dead speaking English during this particular holiday, however I think it's the perfect occasion to introduce all of you to the culture! And what better way than to watch a fun movie!
Bon Cop, Bad Cop (2006) is a comedy cop thriller that showcases the differences between French and English Canadian cultures, which usually clash at the Québec-Ontario border. The movie is bilingual, in a way that people speak both English and French interchangeably throughout the movie, with added subtitles for the language you want. This is actually what I like most about this movie! You get to see (and hear!) from both perspectives, it's not just one making fun of the other like A LOT of other movies do. And it's really well done!
Yes, you can still find all the Canadian stereotypes you've ever heard of (it's a movie after all), but there's some truth behind all of those nitpicks. And I laughed, so why not.
So here's the trailer!
youtube
So if I still need to convince you to watch it:
It's a comedy! Lots of fun!
Colm Feore is in this, Netflix The Umbrella Academy's very own Sir Reginald Hargreeves!
Canadian French with subtitles!
Lots of insights into Québec culture!
Québécois swear words explained!
You don't need to know about or even like hockey at all (like me!) to enjoy this movie!
I was told it was on Netflix in a couple of countries (maybe under Foreign or something, idk I don't have Netflix). If not you can very easily find a stream online! Have fun!
