Colombier Beach

Best viewed from above and the hardest to reach one. We finish the list of the 15 beaches in St Barts on a high.

Accessible only by boat or by hiking trails, the first trail is La Petite Anse, a wild trail that winds through the vegetation. Passingthrough a passage under the cave, and walking along the edge of a cliff, on which the scenery is breathtaking, you will walk towards the goal : reach the magnificent beach of Colombier, and enjoy a sea bath as a reward after these, 30 minutes of pure pleasure through nature. The second hiking trail is from the point of view at the orientation table after passing through Colombier.

The Domaine Rockefeller proudly stretches over 52 hectares of land above Colombier (the circle on the last photo) and how the fame and glam started in St Barts. The '60s brought the Rockefellers and Rothschilds and saw the arrival of the first jet-setters. Thus, the mystique was created. The '70s brought spectacular yachts like Onassis's Christina into the Lilliputian Harbor in Gustavia.

Construction of the immense Villa began in the late 1950s. It was initiated by the powerful banker David Rockefeller, grandson of the founder of the industrial dynasty John D. Rockefeller, who bought the land in 1957 for 32,500 dollars. First purchased in the early 1990s by Steve and Linda Horn, producers of television commercials in the United States, Villa Rockefeller suffered severe damage during Hurricane Irma in 2017. The couple were looking for a buyer for this house steeped in history. The record deal was made official on 7 April 2023, when Adam Sinn, a 45-year-old American national, became the new owner for around $136 million (€124 million). This was the highest property transaction ever recorded on the island for a single residence.

Passing through rituals involving holes in stones and trees are widespread in Europe and beyond and are related to rituals that involve looking through a hole to see spirits. In my latest video we look at the passing through rituals associated with megalithic structures in Britain and Ireland, such as the Men-an-Tol in Cornwall through which I passed my own son. I also discuss the arboreal passing through rituals associated with oak and ash trees all over Europe, known as träddragning in Nordic countries. We also look at the related customs of looking through holes among the Sami and the Welsh, the Odinic ritual of looking through an arm akimbo as described in the Viking saga of King Hrólfr Kraki, and at the hagstone or adderstone tradition from Britain and the associated magical practices.
