No fun adventure to Paso Robles Wine Country is complete without visiting @chroniccellars. We’d say that Chronic has some of the happiest, irreverent (in the BEST way), enthusiastic wine followers on earth who use descriptors such as fun, hip, witty + edgy to describe the atmosphere + their wines that exude adventurous flavor profiles. (Get ready to sip choice wines, play games + shop in their irresistibly, natty boutique...Chronic Cellars is epic!) Top this off with not one, not two, but three of @chroniccellars wines receiving 90+ points from @wineenthusiast. Celebrate by picking up a bottle of Sir Real (LOL "surreal"), Suite Petite, or Purple Paradise + make your Christmas seriously chronic. Thumbs up to the founders Josh + Jake, the sons of the Becketts, who were the passionate founders of iconic @peachycanyon Winery in Paso. The 2 bros were raised in the heart of Paso Robles Wine County + grew up with chores such as washing barrels, punching down fermenting grapes + working the bottling line (good job mom + dad!). Yelp Review sums it up nicely: "The decor is vivid, the wines are delicious, + the property is fun, with games outside (pool table, bocce ball, corn hole) + a nice spot for a picnic. They even allowed us to bring our dog in with us to taste. (We tasted the wine...no one tasted the dog)." Wine Pick - 91pts + Editor's Choice, Wine Enthusiast (2020 Vintage): 2020 Purple Paradise, couldn’t we all use a little paradise in our lives? 70% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah, 10% Syrah, 4% Grenache - an intriguing blend that uses only the best - or ‘chronic’ grapes. Pull up a comfy hammock + catch a lucky break with Purple Paradise. He reminds you to just roll with it + never say no to a fun getaway. You’ll paint your paradise purple with this Zinfandel-dominated blend that rolls out with jammy blackberry fruit, cherry cola, + the loveliest whispers of mocha + lavender. Alluringly deep + dark in color, the wine paints the perfect landscape for balanced acidity + mild tannins that floats on to a blissful finish. An incredible value at $14.99. For a virtual tour of Chronic Cellars text "Chronic" to 805-800-8614 - Cheers! (at Chronic Cellars) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmHhdedv_D0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Not Blimpy
Big, black, thick stuff, with gobs of sediment. Clean heady nose all chalky-rich with well-composed dankness and savory briar. Cherry and blackberry lie tightly under the cloak of concentration, with peppery-sharp leather perfume crowning the bouquet, without a trace of prune or fatigue. You never really know what you’re going to get with Petite Sirah. It can run from ridiculously tannic…

Paso Robles Trip Review
Monday evening: Croad Vineyards- beautiful views and a lovely winery. Wine was good, a little more acidity than I like.
Tuesday: Tin City day. We visited ONX, Jacob Toft, Sans Liege and Field Recordings. Tin City has a wonderful charm about it. Loved Reckoning from ONX and the Loomis Zinfandel from Field Recordings.
Wednesday: Adelaida, Daou, Opolo and Calcareous. Amazing, beautiful views at Daou and Calcareous. Adelaida’s tasting room was lovely. Opolo was spacious and the food was amazing. Favorites includes Adelaida’s Anna’s Vineyard Syrah, Daou Estate CabSauv, Opolo’s Petite Sirah Reserve and Calcareous’ Tres Violet.
Thursday: Turley, Niner, Booker, My Favorite Neighbor and Austin Hope. Turley was my favorite tasting experience, everything we had was delicious. Niner was absolutely gorgeous and the food was SO GOOD (get the fried chicken). Booker’s aesthetic was so calming, pleasing and modern we walked right over to My Favorite Neighbor after. Favorites include Turley’s Tecolote, Niner’s Twisted Spur, Booker’s Oublie, My Favorite Neighbor’s CabSauv and Austin Hope’s Reserve CabSauv.
Thursday Evening: Indigene Cellars (tasting room in downtown Paso Robles) - Bold, jammy and delicious CabSauv!
Being from Ohio this trip was a dream come true. I can’t wait to go back someday.

Paso Robles Day 6
Dear Me,
Yesterday was a rest day.
I took out MJ for her morning poop. We came back and I charged my phone. At around 10 AM, MJ and I went out for a longer walk. We walked towards downtown and made our way around the park. They were setting up for a concert, slated to start at 6 PM that evening.
We hurried back to the Airbnb before it got too hot for Miss MJ. The morning heats up quickly here in the central valley.
I got in bed and with the intention to read but instead got distracted. I logged onto instagram on my phone. Not the instagram app, but the internet browser app. Since I deleted IG from my phone last year, I haven’t been inundated with pictures of friends for self comparison. It hit me like a tidal wave as I scrolled through everyone’s posts.
Can you believe that? I was literally having the best week company paid time off, and I was like but how come I don’t have anything to post on IG (even though I had voluntarily elected to quit the damn platform). I know that sounds crazy. But social media is a fucking powerful drug.
I got out of bed and walked over to Brian, and I was in a mood. Partially his fault, but really, it was social media’s fault. What was his fault, you ask? Well he promised me after his meeting we’d go out to get gelato. It was now 15 minutes passed the end of his meeting.
He said a lot of things. One excuse he made, was that he was working and what did I expect from him while he was on company time? I made clear to him that although I understood, he is entitled to a 10 minute break and it would only take 2 minutes to cycle over to the gelato shop (literally 2 blocks down on our exact street). I told him, if he can spend 10 minutes looking for land cruisers online, then he has 10 minutes to come get ice cream with me.
I didn’t think that was unreasonable. But maybe I’m wrong. I don’t know.
Men have a way of making everything they do seem like the absolute most important thing--and they get to do what they want when they want.
I’m not saying it’s malicious on their part. It just seems to me, in my encounters with men, that they just think so highly of their own time and needs. How do we raise more women to be like this? How do I be more like this?
Do I even want that? It seems inconsiderate, in my opinion. But maybe that’s why they give so many less fucks. Another attribute I admire.
Anyways, after a discussion on it, we rode our bikes to get gelato from the Market Walk. Unfortunately, it was overpriced. And melting. Maybe I’m biased as I used to work in a gelato shop. Rule number one is make sure your gelato display is on point. Their display was lacking a lot of love. We walked over to the coffee bar. Brian ordered the Golden State latte and I ordered a kyoto cold brew mojito (it was interesting, to say the least, as they added some sort of jalapeno flavor to it).
When we got back to the airbnb, he continued to work and I started reading again. The memoir was getting juicy. Like a Lifetime Movie drama. I was in love with this woman; and finally half way through.
Before Brian and I headed out to dinner at fancy schmancy French restaurant, I popped a cookie. It kicked in during the main course as they placed my whole Branzino in front of me. Brian ordered a white blend of syrah and I got a glass of the chablis. For our main dishes Brian got the muscles in a meaty red sauce and I got the whole fish. For our sides we got the carrots, pomme puree, and the house gifted us french fries. We devoured everything. It was delicious. (For memories sake, the restaurant was called Les Petites Canailles)
For dessert we got the Creme Brulee. The top was not so cripy but tasted more like a fire roasted marshmallow. The cream inside was so pillowy and light. The vanilla custard unlike anything I’ve had before. A high person’s delight. A fucking wonderland of a treat.
On our walk back home, there was a shirtless man dancing around in the street by himself. Brian got nervous and made us cross the street. I could feel it in his grip. He held my hand like we were in another country on a crowded train platform, and he didn’t want to lose me. And even though his hands were getting sweaty, he didn’t let go until we were inside the Airbnb gates.
I was high as fuck.
We got inside and were greeted by a happy MJ. I laid on the carpeted floor of the living room while Brian put on a vinyl. He then walked over to me and asked me for dance; his arms pulling me up from the ground into his warm chest. He spun us around and around and I stumbled about--giggling.
I love this man.
Love,
Me

Jacob's Ladder
Jacob’s Ladder
Easily the most streamlined, restrained and complex red I’ve had from this label to date, but again: kinda a mop-the-cellar-floor blend of not-oft matched components that make you go, Huh? But Paso LOVES their named blends, and this one works pretty well. Unlike the presentation of most blends, here the bookends seem to be the vague fillers, and the meat contributing most of the characteristic…

Just a touch of vanilla, perhaps born of the oak. 2) Get organized: It’s hard to pick an outfit when you can’t see what’s in your overstuffed closet. Same goes with wine. Allow your pairing skills to soar when you are able to view all your wines in one go. Now is the time to take stock of what’s aging in the cellar. A bottle worth clearing a little space for? @chroniccellars 2019 Purple Paradise, a mix of zinfandel, petite sirah, syrah + grenache that bursts with juicy blackberry-mocha charm. 3) Go Virtual/To-Go: Click, sip, hooray: Virtual tasting is here to stay! CHÂTEAU MONBRISON. Cru Bourgeois Superior Margaux 1995.
Ficha 2.
CHÂTEAU PRIEURE-LICHINE. Grand Cru Classe Margaux 1995.

For #winewednesday the selection comes from some dear friends Doug and Gail with the 2018 @daouvineyards Pessimist Paso Robles. This vintage is a multi varietal blend of 62% Petite Sirah, 20% Zinfandel, 16% Syrah and a 2% dollop of Lagrein. This is a superbly rich and glass staining purple hue. Gobs of black and blue berry fruit leap out of the glass punctuated with secondary notes of espresso, violets, road tar and toasted oak. At 15% alcohol, might have expected a bit of a balance trouble but the Pessimist keeps everything in place. The mouthfeel is massive and coats the palate. This is full bodied, full throttle wine that is unapologetic about being a iron fist in a velvet glove. Who am I kidding, this wine is sexy as f*ck! #californiawine #daouvineyards #pessimist #fieldblend #pasorobleswine (at Tuscany) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEF__Igpdw0/?igshid=12hwpjqi7g932

@hearstranchwinery drop ! Come on by and pick up one of these dazzling bottles, that will be sure to add the perfect flare to your 🍷! Tasting Notes below ! (L)2017 Three Sisters Red Cuvée : 90 points Wine Enthusiasts 54% Grenache, 26% Syrah, 14% Petite Sirah & 6% Mourvèdre Varietal: Rhone Blend Appellation: Paso Robles Alcohol %13.9 vibrant ruby in appearance, offers elegant yet concentrated aromas and flavors of ripe cherries and vanilla. Grenache wholeheartedly embraces chalky soils, translating them into a silky, mineral-laden structure. These positive attributes are why we chose Grenache as the driving force behind our 2017 Three Sisters Red. The addition of Syrah, Petite Sirah & Mourvèdre help polish the presentation of this wine. Incredibly focused fruit and supple, mid-weight tannins play very nicely against the firm acid backbone. Possessing bright exuberance (R) 2017 Randolph Red Cuvée: 92 points Wine Enthusiasts 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Petit Verdot, 23% Petite Sirah, 23% Tempranillo, 7% Malbec & 1% Zinfandel Varietal: Non-traditional Blend Appellation: Paso Robles Alcohol %14.5 This untraditional blend has a harmonious ease about it. With a dense, dark color and supple mouthfeel, this versatile wine overdelivers at every turn. The nose has an unmistakable spice courtesy of the Bordeaux varietals and jammy, lush flavors on the palate. The ripe flavor profile allows this wine to be sipped as an aperitif while the plush weight on the palate makes it a perfect food wine as well. Ribbon on a Hog
Two wines with a lot in common at the opposite ends of the Paso Robles *rhone* spectrum. Wineries like this always dot burgeoning wine-country, and get pushed out as quality goes mainstream and the clientele gets smarter. Can’t really think of too many left in Napa-Sonoma, also drawing a blank on Santa Barbara wine country, but are plentiful starting in San Luis Obispo county and all the way up…

Pessimist This Rhône style red blend out of Daou winery in Paso Robles does not immediately hit your palate as the typical GSM blends of the region. The Zinfandel is immediately recognizable. It’s color is lended from Petite Syrah. And rounded out with a touch of Tannant. And don’t forget the intriguing label, this is a wine I’d buy again. https://www.instagram.com/p/CC4p0oEJ9rI/?igshid=extg33408i40
