Testing a color idea, yellows on dark sap green. (I like it) The photo reference is a corset by Pascal Jaouen, who does *stunning* work.

I really did not like the costume change with  Alvan & Ahez for the final performance of Eurovision 2022. I recognize the attire is more fancy n´ fabulous and this is great, but I think the first set they had worked better with the staging over all. (And I´m puzzled why they chose to put the embroidery work onto the other shoulder with Alvan´s new jacket. Having it on the same arm as the tattoo is on feels weirdly off balance.) But nevertheless the new pieces look great out of context and I recently ran into an article about the embroidery work by Pascal Jaouen and it´s gorgeous. Due to the time constraints they have used machines as well but a lot of it has done by hand.

Les broderie de Pascal Jaouen, brodeur et styliste de culture bretonne. J’aime beaucoup ses créations car elle s’inspire de l’art traditionnel bretonne. Ayant eu la chance d’aller à une de ses expositions, j’ai pu observer chaque détail des broderie, qui sont toutes aussi minutieuse les unes que les autres. Je trouve que le perfectionnisme de Pascal Jaouen, fait le charme et l’originalité de ses travaux. C’est grâce a ses oeuvres que met venue l’envie de broder.

“Sinto-me muito atraída pelos debates antropológicos e pela arte popular e pelas tradições artesanais, a minha curiosidade levou-me a desenvolver competências específicas relacionadas com estes temas que me interessam, e a combinar belas artes, arte têxtil e antropologia. Treinei bordado com Pascal Jaouen, Caroline Gamb e Nicolas Jover, com Dominique Pilliard para plumasserie (trabalho de penas) e Marion Seranne para styling. O fio condutor da minha abordagem artística assenta no objetivo de dar vida à arte têxtil, de trabalhar a transversalidade das artes na forma de simbiose interdisciplinar. A minha prática desenvolve-se numa dinâmica que defino como “maximalista”, saturação, excesso de cores e informações que amplificam os sentimentos. Duas linhas de pesquisa surgiram: arte vestível e iconografia têxtil.”

“I am very attracted to anthropological debates and folk art and craft traditions, my curiosity has led me to develop specific skills in connection to these themes of interest to me, and towards combining fine art, textile art and anthropology. I trained in embroidery with Pascal Jaouen, Caroline Gamb and Nicolas Jover, with Dominique Pilliard for plumasserie (feather work) and Marion Seranne for styling. The main thread of my artistic approach is based on the goal of bringing textile art to life, to work on the transversality of the arts in the form of interdisciplinary symbiosis. My practice is developed on a dynamic that I define as “maximalist”, saturation, an excess of colours and information that amplifies feelings. Two lines of research have emerged: wearable art and textile iconography.”
