i have
1. a special interest in psychology
and 2. Thoughts about cancel culture
and i'm not sure if i'm gonna convey my ideas well, but i'll still try:
Honestly, cancel culture feels a bit like the normalization of the mindset of moral OCD, or like one of those moral panics. Like, I understand wanting to revoke support of someone if it comes out that they did something really bad, but it's happening and being socially informally enforced to kind of an insane level nowadays. (Also, I feel like a lot of cancel culture revolves around kind of a mob mentality, and that people are too often ostracized for not sharing the same opinions (or sometimes just not caring as much) about those who have been canceled.)
It's just so strange to me that some people could be freaking out because their friend (a separate individual from them) likes music from an artist that's been deemed problematic. I mean I get the concern if someone directly supports someone's fucked up actions, but direct support is completely different from merely consuming content.
(ACTUALLY, that kind of reminds me of how we put so much weight on what content we consume possibly because in this world and this society, the content we consume is assumed to reflect some part of ourselves. That's not related enough for this post though, and I think I've summarized my thoughts on it well enough here)
I feel like cancel culture is just an excuse to harass others
Oh, most definitely.
I also feel like cancel culture is an unhealthy deflection of emotions.
#enjoy my shorter than intended ramblings!#i just like knowing why people do things#partially because im autistic and social stuff isnt as intuitive for me#and partially because it brings me comfort to know that people arent always correct#anyways im gonna stop the tags there because my brain's exhausted its word supply#proship#profic#cancel culture
