🌲 IT’S NATIONAL PARKS WEEK 🌲 Kicking it off by announcing my boyfriends next Park Ranger season : LASSEN Volcanic National Park! He leaves in about a week for 6 months (🥺), BUT he’ll be the closest he’s ever been to home this time, since it’s only 3 1/2 hours away (🥰)! He did his last 2 seasons in remote @katmainpp Alaska, the previous 2 seasons before that in @greatsanddunesnps Colorado, before that was @fortmchenrynps Maryland, and before that was @olympic_nps Washington (along with many state and county parks & historic sites). 🏔 We’ve been on a long and emotional and chaotic and fun JOURNEY, y’all. Just jumping through all the hoops to get to this very place he/we are at right now. Where he’s finalllyyyyyy able to apply for permanent park positions instead of just seasonal. 🎉 This means, we’ll soon(ish) be moving INTO a National Park, and as exciting as that is for me it’s also low-key scary. To not know where you’ll be moving to let alone exactly when. Or how remote or accessible it’ll be for me to get around. What kind of community (staff/other rangers and their partners) there will be for me there. What kind of job opportunities I’d have and whether or not I’d be able to keep my remote work I currently have. And in the future, what raising our kids would look like in a National Park…👀 It’s pretty difficult as someone who always wants to be in control or have a plan laid out, to just surrender it all and be handed so many unknowns. But I’m also SO HERE for the adventure too!!🎢 I might do some Reels/TT story times and updates on this process as we hear back from parks and make this crazy transition. ✨ You’re my favorite notification ✨ ⠀⠀ Well...Day 1 of quarantining alone was tough. The boyfriend left this morning for Katmai until October. ⠀⠀ In the park service, you need to acquire a certain # of months before being able to apply for permanent status. After this season, he (we) can start looking at a park to “settle down” at! Which is both relieving and terrifying. But mostly really exciting. ⠀⠀ New chapters and big changes are coming! ❤️ ⠀⠀ But in the meantime : Long distance sucks. Like I mean, REALLY sucks. Especially right now — When you’re sheltering in place and not advised to travel to see each other and with all the covid-19 unknowns. (And no, we can’t even really FaceTime, call, or text this season cuz his service in remote Alaska is expected to be almost non-existent 😭). ⠀⠀ I almost just apologized for being a total downer with this caption. But I get a lot of questions and praise about how we handle long distance, so I think it’s important to show reality, and lean in to the many emotions that come with it. ⠀⠀ ❓Are you quarantining alone?
