Sometimes a rider passes along and for whatever circumstances doesn’t make quite the biggest mark. The infamous Van Gogh didn’t sell a single painting in his lifetime but after his early retirement of sorts, only then people began it’s worth. Today’s rider that brings up that kind of metaphor would be Josh Harrington.

It’s when I stumbled onto this it got me thinking. That’s insane. Something that happened probably closer to decade ago that I think is just about the most insane thing I saw in the past few years. Then I realized, dang this dude has been gone from the game ever since Premium dropped him. Only when I hit him with the usual thought process I realized what an incredible rider who didn’t nearly enough credit that he should’ve during his tenure. Sure some of it’s a bit dated but almost all of of is absolutely relevant. Once NBD’s that are the it tricks of today. Like take the nose to bar, a decade ago a nose variation was not something people thought possible. Hanger to bar. Over to bar over. On massive setups that even somehow within the confines of a park rail is absolutely more aggro than any street setup. 

But with what do we miss with Josh’s riding? Something that today’s riders absolutely lack. The true mid school roots of riding everything. Some of which is clearly shown in this video. Like he is able to invert vert while simultaneously throwing down heavy tech and gnar maneuvers on rails. Bar to rails while also doing huge back rail fufanus and cannonballs. It’s not a combo that anyone really has been able replicate. It’s the parkest of park, meeting the streetest of street. In the end it comes off as if Van Homan and Vinnie Sammon had a child and a made a pro together. And the ender!? There are some amazing lines people are linking up these days but bar gap to second stand double peg is just one of the maneuvers that hasn’t been outdone that I know of. Even if it has it’s definitely not in the time frame of a decade ago. I’m pretty sure a decade ago people were still wearing girl jeans and rocking Nokon cables to put into perspective for the older heads. 

But the Josh got dropped from Premium and he disappeared. Being in the game that long, with pretty much the same company the whole time. I figured a bigger company was gonna pick him up sooner or later. Being that he is on a different level and still relatively young compared to a lot of the other mid school breeds but it just didn’t happen. Even when he was around I don’t think he was put on the way that his riding could’ve been put on. Maybe it was the fact that Premium was widely known to be owned by Haro so it inherently has that unhardcore stigma maybe it was other things who knows. Regardless Josh let his riding do the talking and time is testament to truth. The truth is that he always was overlooked and absolutely top tier rider. Remember kids, you can dress like a normal human being, behave like a normal human being, ride park and do it to the most emo song and be more street than pretty nearly everyone that got signed in the last 10 years.
