Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. spread the self-love ❤
Thanks, Fells! And thank you to @minervas-hand who sent me the same ask while I was procrastinating on answering. I appreciate you both!
Here are my top five, with my absolute favorites first:
Midwinter is Another Name for New Beginnings
Good Omens, 500 words Muriel (& or /) Eric the Disposable Demon
Eric released his firm grip on Muriel's hand as they arrived in the muddy field with the gentle susurrus of a demonic miracle. The waning sunlight caught on their skirts, softly white on Muriel and richly dark on Eric.
Eric invites Muriel out on something that might be intended as a date. Soft and sweet but with as much characterization and longing as I could layer into every line. It's just 500 words so it's a quick read, but I adore it.
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
Good Omens, 3,073 words Aziraphale/Crowley
"It's been a bit since I've been flying." Aziraphale tilted forward and spread his wings to their fullest extent, catching a convenient airstream that flowed under his wings like a gentle caress as he leaned into it. "I imagine you do it quite a bit. You always liked the wind in your hair." "And you don't?" Crowley twisted himself to flow in the same direction, circling Aziraphale like a snake wrapping around a tree to climb, or a planet circling its star as they moved together through the galaxy. "I've never given much thought as to how much wind should be in your hair," Aziraphale replied in his haughtiest tone. "It seems quite untamable either way."
Set a bit before Season 1, Aziraphale is feeling down and Crowley has the brilliant idea to cheer him up by stealing a harp. 3k words of flying, flirting, banter, and barely-plausible deniability. (Also available as a podfic, thanks to @contritecactite!)
Written in Sand or Written in Stone
Spider-Man, 1,817 words Peter Parker & Matt Murdock & Wade Wilson
"What's your name?" the older vigilante asked. "…Spider-Man." It came out hesitantly, as if it were an identity he were borrowing, a mask as much as the one on his face. Daredevil nodded. "Spider-Man, then." It was a good answer.
This was the first fic I posted after my return to fandom and I still adore it. It's a dozen snapshots of Peter Parker's life as Spider-Man and what that identity means to him. What happens between the scenes is as important as what happens in them!
We Made Our Peace with Weariness
Good Omens (Oopsie!Omens), 1,603 words Azazel (Demon!Aziraphale) / Jophiel (Angel!Crowley)
Azazel's voice shook. "It isn't like you to shun knowledge." "Yeah, well, that's what this 'righteous judgment' is all about, so you'll forgive my lack of enthusiasm." Azazel's mind raced with a million questions — what was going to happen, and why, and was there really no stopping it — before he realized that, regardless of the answers, he wasn't going to do anything to thwart an angel's mission when he wasn't ordered to. Jophiel clearly wasn't, either, and that was a good thing. A Good thing, even. Azazel took a deep breath and let his shoulders sink, willing away his tense posture. "Of course. I'd forgive you anything."
My top fic by kudos by far, and my return to writing fanfiction of fanfiction after having found so much joy in that as a child. The Tower of Babel is such a great scene to bring some Good-Omens-style guilt and tragedy to, and getting to write about how desperately Azazel and Jophiel need to hug was an utter delight.
Meeting for Doughnuts, I Mean, Debriefing
Good Omens, 500 words Adam Young & Eric the Disposable Demon
Adam Young sighed heavily as he stepped inside the bakery. “You’re going to attract attention if you’re here.” Eric looked over cheerily and waved. “Hullo, dark Lord!” Adam shook his head in disagreement at the salutation. “Seriously. You stand out like a sore thumb.”
500 words of lighthearted banter between Adam and Eric the Disposable Demon. It's silly, it's fun, it has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it implication of Crowley falsifying his reports. If you like Eric, it's got a lot of Eric.
Thanks for giving me this opportunity to look back through my cache of fics! It was a lot of fun!

10 Fandoms, 10 Characters, 10 Tags
thank you for the tag @bluntblade! (i'm embarrassed this took me so long. also i've never been good at ranking things so uh don't consider this list in order of most favorite or anything)
Donna Noble (Doctor Who)
Character I think about if I'm having a bad day <3 This scene between the windows in Partners in Crime never fails to cheer me up. Also: "You're not mating with me, sunshine!" Theeeeee best platonic relationship with the Doctor IMO.
Varl (Horizon)
Aloy did not appreciate this good dude nearly enough. I want Varl to be my BFF. T_T But HFW happened and... I won't say too much about that or we'd be here all day. He's alive in my head and that's all that matters.
Cimorene (The Enchanted Forest Chronicles)
Cimorene! She's no-nonsense and clever. She wasn't a fan of being treated like a princess so she went and "got captured by" a dragon so people would stop bothering her, and helps her cook and organize her library. I mean, goals.
Loki (MCU)
I wasn't into the MCU when it started getting big, and in fact I didn't see any of the movies until I read someone on Tumblr (c. 2012) going on about (paraphrased) how awful it was that people liked Loki because he was the absolute worst and if you liked him you were a gross immoral person and you should feel bad. So I went and watched this Avengers movie everyone was talking about. And guess what haters? He is terrible and I love him.
Parker (Leverage)
Although I am not brave enough to throw myself off buildings, sometimes I amuse myself by thinking "what would Parker do?" and since a canonical option involves stabbing someone who's bothering her with a fork and jumping out a window, the thought cheers me up even if I can't do that.
Aziraphale (Good Omens)
He just wants people (aside from Crowley) to leave him alone in his bookshop. He never fits in with his "side" but tries to do what they want anyway, because that's the good thing to do, and he wants to be good. I can relate so hard, buddy.
Milo Thatch (Atlantis: The Lost Empire)
Ok so... I totally had a crush on Michael J. Fox and I was already interested in linguistics back when this movie came out, and then here's a main character voiced by him who was a linguist! Milo had to be my favorite :D
Elena Fisher (Uncharted)
I will fully admit that some of my initial love of Elena came from her AI covering my panic-flailing self early on in the first Uncharted game (I'm THE WORST at games with guns, even on easy, it's actually embarrassing) - but she impressed me right away when she was not overly impressed by Nate. And her snark game is on point.
Zeb (Star Wars Rebels)
I feel like Zeb needs more love. Comic relief character who actually has an unbelievably tragic backstory! And his story has so much untapped potential! We never really get to explore what happened with Lasan, and then then dump Kallus in there with his defection to the Rebellion and his whole *handwaves* history with the Lasats and eventual apparent (b)romance with Zeb - and the show had so little to say about it! Huge angsty storytelling miss right there. (Dave why.)
Brian Finch (Limitless [2015])
This dude! Lovable but he would be SO exasperating to deal with IRL. His arts-and-craftiness just resonated with me. He was always making stuff out of toothpicks and yarn and papier mâché and clay and and and- I'm still mad this show only got one season.
zero-pressure tags: @mari-mary, @ayaitch, @hannahmationstudios, @inomakani, @fogsblue, @nerd-artist, @singingkestrel, @prototypelq, @tjerra14, @artekai or just consider yourself tagged if you want to do it!
#tag game#ty this was fun!#it took me so long because my brain has been overwhelmed mush lately and *waves vaguely* WORDS#but also... how tf does the tumblr gif search work?#i couldn't find what i wanted for some of these so i just took all my own screencaps instead lmao

Multi-fandom Fic Recs
January 22 - What’s an underloved fic you loved in a fandom you don’t post much about? -@sargassostories
Oh, what a fabulous prompt, ty!!! I used to write so many recs back in the day and I’ve watched so much tv and read across so many fandoms over the years so this is far from comprehensive in terms of fandom reading spread. But it’s a good way to warm my reccing muscles up again. I always have more recs or can usually find some places with recs about that fandom.
Humor and Heart
Just Hear Those Slay Bells Jingling, Santa Clarita Diet. Abby/Eric. ~3k. Abby comes home from college on a break and just wants some time with her boyfriend but she just had to tempt fate. Laugh out loud perfect characterization.
Pain and Painting by foxtwin. Blackadder. Blackadder assists Prince George as he takes on a new hobby. This is one of the funniest, punniest wordplay fics ever. Blackadder fic writers are on another level!
Feel me like a steel knife by violet_pencil. Star Trek: Lower Decks. Mariner/Tendi. ~7k. Mariner is a trigger-happy baby and her heart is right between Tendi's sharp white teeth. The Mariner POV is incredible. I felt like I was joyriding through her brain.
Not a synonym for impossible by Siria. Elementary. Improbable was not a synonym for impossible. Joan and Alfredo discuss Alfredo’s crush on Miss Hudson, this is so cute.
Lest they be angels in disguise by singlecrow. Good Omens. Crowley, but Aziraphale/Crowley. 856 words. Buzzfeed, July 2019, "Top Five Off-the-Wall Theories About the Scary Instagram Plant Man.” Includes Instagram posts and internet gossip in this fic. 😂
There's a Fine Line Between Coincidence, Fate, and Jonathan Carnahan by celli. The Mummy. 483 words. Ardeth/Jonathon. Jonathan puffed up with outrage. "I will squander my fortune where I damn well please." 😍
This Dynamic
if loving you kills me by saiditallbefore. Wheel of Time. Nynaeve/Egwene. 642w. Nynaeve's eyes are warm and brown and full of life: so different from earlier, when Egwene had thought she was gone forever. ❤️🔥❤️
Finding Grace by Destina. Kings. Jack/David, Michelle/David. Post-series/futurefic. ~1300w. David's soul has three parts, and without all three, he is incomplete. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Porn
Gifts, Smiles, and Fingers by @daerienn. For All Mankind. Molly/Margo. ~200w. A single Tootsie roll can have a lot of impact.
Meet Me In My Dreams by LiraClayr007. His Dark Materials. Lyra/Will. Post-canon. 200w. It had been almost ten years since they’d said goodbye forever and closed all the doorways, but Lyra knew what Will looked like. He’d aged in her mind, day after day and year after year; she didn’t know how she could know, but she was sure he looked exactly the way she pictured him.
Learned Arts, by darthjamtart. Elementary. Moriarty/Joan. ~400w. Explicit. Jamie knows how to be subtle, but rarely bothers. Not with this.
Domina, Spartacus, Illithya/Lucretia, power struggle, submission “Domina,” Illithya whispers before pressing her lips against Lucretia’s bare, inner thigh.
Kissing Girls, Leverage, Parker/Sophie Devereaux, falling, twirling Parker used to think that kissing was a lot like falling. Sometimes, if she knew she was in complete control, if she had all her safety equipment ready to catch her, if she could see exactly where she was going to end up, then falling was more thrilling than sickening. Kissing too.
Impossible Words, Doctor Who, Jack/Ten, the l word He still can't say it, the words. Those words that make everything so impossibly complicated. He digs his fingers into Jack's skin, feeling it give, knowing he will leave bruises there, visible in the morning.
Caged, Mario Games, Bowser/Peach, kidnap Don't tell anyone, but Peach doesn't entirely mind being kidnapped.
Not Charity Work, Better Off Ted, Veronica/Linda, mentoring Veronica's hair is spread over the pillow, her face flushed and sweat covering her skin. "I'm an excellent mentor."
Soup on the Wall, Star Trek AOS/Star Trek: The Original Series, Chapel/Spock. dream, pon farr, crash To be certain, it was not Ambassador Spock's idea to be ferried to New Vulcan aboard the Enterprise.
Three Sentence Fictionathon (not always 3 sentences, still excellent micro-fics!)
Any, any, Cards Against Humanity as played by nonhuman species by archersangel. Star Trek: Voyager. Tuvok, post-canon.
Boimler and Mariner, Ill-Advised Decisions by silveradept for my Star Trek Lower Decks prompt of “look what you made me do!”
The Expanse, Avasarala/Amos, flirting by vialethe. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Narnia, if Narnia were written by Tolkien by arveldis. 😂 AND LASTLY:
These two ficlets are based on this prompt:
Based on this Tumblr Post where Sirens lure sailors to their death with offers of hot garlic bread, fast Wi-Fi, and $1000 Amazon Gift Cards.
An Informational Sign on the Coast by fallen_stage.
Netflix and Kill by syrena_of_the_lake

10 Questions For Fic Writers
Thank you @eviebane for the tag! <3 No pressure tags: @skellebonez, @deviliciousnavy, and anyone else who wants to cuz i cant think of names lol
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 32!
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 110,161 :3
3. What fandoms do you write for? Currently writing for Lego Monkie Kid, but before that was Good Omens, and before that was Marvel (specifically Irondad and Spiderson). I also have an unfinished snippet for an ROTTMNT idea i had. And I plan on writing for Batfam eventually, as well as more Marvel things (When I used to go by another username on the internet, I also wrote sans x reader, warrior cats, batman oc, and 2012 tmnt oc fics)
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I reply to every single comment cuz I don't get many lmao. It makes me very happy to receive one, so I always make sure to respond with a thank you even if it's not immediately
5. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I hope not 😭
6. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I've beta'd multiple fics, but I haven't co-written anything as of yet
7. What's your all-time favourite ship? Oh man, you're making me choose?? I suppose romantic: Crowley and Aziraphale, and platonic: Either MK and Wukong or Tony Stark and Peter Parker. I'm a sucker for mentor-mentee-turned-kinda-sorta-familial relationships lmao
8. What are your writing strengths? Writing panic. I have hella anxiety so I find it very easy to dive into dark emotions and run on sentences. It's one of my favorite things honestly, to write out racing thoughts to convey just how stressed the character is. I think I'm also fairly good at writing dialogue that flows like a real convo, though it's not always perfect lol
9. What are your writing weaknesses? Staring fics 😭 I wrote a 33k fic and the last part I wrote was the opening cuz I just didn't know how to start it. Endings are always very difficult.
10. First fandom you wrote for? Warrior cats. I had just gotten into the books and ended up making Shadowclan just flat out evil. I cringe looking back at it 😭

Actually, now that I have thought it over, I think it would be better to add live action TV adaptations to possible candidates for the 40, but for characters from Live Action TV Shows.
I would include...
Jon Snow from Game of Thrones
Shawn Spencer from Psych
Michael Scott or Jim Halpert from The Office
Leslie Knope or Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec
Edmund Blackadder or Baldrick from Blackadder
Neil from The Young Ones
and Gilligan from Gilligan's Island
What live action TV Shows would you pick?
There were so many shows that it was so hard to pick! But I did my best:
The Addams Family (1964): Gomez or Mortica
BBC Sherlock: John Watson (I know there are some who don’t like this version, but I like the idea of John becoming even more badass and getting a leg up on Sherlock).
Good Omens: Aziraphale or Crowley
Merlin: Merlin of Arthur (I’m just imagining Arthur being surrounded by modern technology and calling it “sorcery!”)
House MD: House
Gilligan's Island: Gilligan
M*A*S*H: Hawkeye or Klinger (Look, the man KILLED IT in those dresses and was committed!)
Star Trek: The Original Series: Kirk or Spock
The Nanny: Fran or Niles
The Golden Girls: Rose or Dorothy or Sophia or Blanche (Listen, for so long I have wanted to see Niles from The Nanny and Sophia go toe to toe in an insult competition, so this is the closest I can get!)
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Will Smith
Knight Rider (1982): Michael Knight or KITT (Can you imagine three of the people waking up in a room only to find a talking car with them as well?)
Dexter: Dexter
Fringe: Olivia or Walter or Peter
Stranger Things: Steve Harrington (The babysitter needs to be prepare) or El
Doctor Who: Tenth Doctor
Supernatural: Sam or Dean or Castiel
The Good Doctor: Shaun Murphy
Breaking Bad: Walter White or Jesse Pinkman
The Handmaid's Tale: June Osborne
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Buffy
Roswell (1999): Liz Parker or Max Evans
Fleabag: Fleabag
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: Miriam Maisel
Orange Is The New Black: Piper Chapman
Psych: Shawn Spencer
The Office: Michael Scott or Jim Halpert
Parks and Rec: Leslie Knope or Ron Swanson
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Jake Peralta or Ray Holt
MacGyver (1985): Angus MacGyver
NCIS: Leroy Gibbs
Criminal Minds: Spencer Reid
The X-Files: Dana Scully or Fox Mulder
Full House: Jesse Katsopolis or Danny Tanner or Joey Gladstone
Corner Gas: Brent
Downton Abbey: Charles Carson
Monk: Adrien Monk
The Queen's Gambit: Beth Harmon
Columbo: Columbo
Murder, She Wrote: Jessica Beatrice Fletcher

End of the year book-reading ask game.
Yes, I decided to answer every question.
Did you set a goal for yourself this year? How did you do? If not, why not? I did not set a goal this year. I just told myself to have fun. I really only set a goal in November, which was to read more books this year than I ever have because I was two books away from doing so. And wow, I really read a lot of books. Way more than ever before.
Did any book inspire you to seek out further media, such as the movie/show/fanfiction? How did you feel about that take? I don't really think so.
Did consuming any piece of media inspire you to pick up the book? How did it compare? No,
If you DNF any books, what was the pettiest reason you put a book down this year? I DNF'ed one book because there was a description saying a character's eyebrows rose into her hairline. Yep.
What's a scene you read this year that sticks with you? The last scene of The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin when everything just really comes together and the main character's past lover leans in and asks her if she's ever heard of anything called the moon. Totally broke my mind because they didn't have a freakin' moon!
Any new favorite authors? Marshall J. Moore, N. K. Jemisin, Martha Wells, Freya Marske, R. F. Kuang, and Rachel Smythe.
Any old favorites let you down? Jennifer L. Armentrout. She became one of my favorite authors last year. All I can say is: girl, get your shit together.
If someone were to ask you what your top ten books for this year were, which would you choose? So this is 16 instead of 10, but I couldn't narrow them down. They're all so good. Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn, Torn by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Artificial Condition by Martha Wells, The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin, The Awoken City by Marshall J. Moore, The Broken Kingdoms by N. K. Jemisin, She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan, Life by Pumpkin by Leslie Popp, Shards of Earth by Adrian Tchaikovsky, The Librarian by Air and Nothingness Press, Dracula by Bram Stoker, A Power Unbound by Freya Marske, Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree, The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England by Brandon Sanderson, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson, and The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.
What book(s) had the biggest influence over your life this year? The Lord of the Rings because it genuinely kept me alive when my seizure disorder made itself known, and when I first developed the autoimmune disorder as well. It kept me alive when my leg was broken and I was bed-bound. It saved my life.
Any books you hate-read this year? Yeah, no. I never do that. Why hate-read when you can go read something you would genuinely enjoy?
Any books with large fandoms? The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett, Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe, any book by Brandon Sanderson, The Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and I think Blood and Ash and Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout has a big fandom.
Did any book inspire you to create? Perhaps Babel by R. F. Kuang. There was an interview with the author at the back that made me feel better about choosing to write Chinese fantasy despite not being Chinese myself.
How would you summarize your reading choices for this year? Popular, yet somehow a bit niche at the same time.
Did you binge any series this year? The Lord of the Rings, The Fifth Season, Inheritance (also by N. K. Jemisin), The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang, The Rites of Resurrection by Marshall J. Moore, The Final Architecture by Adrian Tchaikovsky, The Summer King by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Murderbot by Martha Wells, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe.
A book you never thought you'd be into but were proven wrong Definitely The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin. A good portion of it is written in second person, and I was surprised I enjoyed it so much.
Most read trope this year? Was this intentional or unintentional? Honestly, I have no idea. I haven't really been keeping track of that stuff.
A book you reread this year. Did it hold up to how you remembered it? The Lord of the Rings. Always.
Some books you bought this year (insert picture of my bookcase and my stack of books to read here)
Did you utilize your library this year? What were some library events you went to if yes? Any new library cards? I used Libby a lot! I have a library card with my local library, and a virtual one with the Boston library. I also have a card from The Librarian.
Would you say that you had any kind of growth as a reader? Yes. I read a lot of books I thought I wouldn't like. I read more diverse authors. I also read so much more than I ever have despite all my difficulties this year.
How have you kept track of the books you read this year? I just write them down on the notes app when I finish them. I also started using Goodreads in April.
What are some books you discovered this year that you added to your tbr? Yeah, uh, there are a million for this.
What new releases did you read this year? The Ashen City by Marshall J. Moore, Heart of the Sun Warrior by Sue Lynn Tan, The Awoken City by Marshall J. Moore, Son of a Sailor by Marshall J. Moore, The Sun and the Star by Rick Riordan & Mark Oshiro, A Soul of Ash and Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout, A Restless Truth by Freya Marske, He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker-Chan, Fall of Ruin and Wrath by Jennifer L. Armentrout, The Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan, Prisoners of a Pirate Queen by Marshall J. Moore, A Fire in the Flesh by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree, and Brandon Sanderson's Secret Projects.
What new releases are you looking forward to next year? Definitely the third Crescent City book by Sarah J. Maas, and I think the sixth book for A Court of Thorns and Roses is coming out too. And anything by Marshall J. Moore, obviously. I'll give more Jennifer L. Armentrout books a try, I suppose.
If you had to give a TEDTalk on a book you read this year, for better or worse, which would it be? Probably Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson. I could talk about the slow build-up with the romance and how when the climax hits you realize just how invested you actually were with the romance the whole time. I could talk about the different cultures it's based off of. I could also talk about it's anti-AI sentiments (one of my favorite parts), and I could talk about the message about all art created by humans being important, no matter what medium it may be in, and there was also the message about respecting art and cultures you may not understand.
What are your reading goals for next year? Honestly, if I had a goal it would be to read 100 books, which... doesn't seem doable. The number is just too intimidating.
#books#reading#at the end of the year#i'll be posting the official list of books i read#trying to add two more to it still

I love getting tagged in things... even though I usually forget to do them lol
Tagged by: @lisianpeia <3
Last song: Well... I played Appalachian Spring earlier today, but I'm assuming this is meant to be the last song I listened to? In which case, "Alas! The horse is gone" by Carol Walker. I've been listening to Celtic music focusing on cultures that often get missed by the wider public. This one is from the Isle of Man!
Favourite colour: Blue
Last movie/TV show: Good Omens. I finally have Prime video so I'm watching the couple things I've really wanted to see!
Sweet/spicy/savoury?: Alternates between sweet and savory.
Relationship status: Single
Last thing I googled: Charlie Parker. We looked at Blues for Alice today and I saw his name and thought, "Is that Bird?" It is indeed.
Current obsession: Shockingly, I don't really have one right now. I haven't had a proper hyperfixation since this summer, probably because I'm focused on school. I'd say Stardew Valley was my most recent!
Tag Nine People: I'm not gonna do this part but mostly because I haven't been on Tumblr since school started and the only URLs I remember are @lisianpeia who tagged me in the first place and @primasveraas whom I know has already been tagged lol.

Is a Unicorn a Pagan belief followed by the GOP and How did they find their way to ideologies of American History? Unicorns In world mythology and folklore, a fantastic animal usually portrayed as a small horse like creature with a single horn protruding from its head. In European mythologies the unicorn is usually viewed as a beneficent being. A medieval description of the fantastic animal is found in Le Bestiaire Divin de Guillaume Clerc de Normandie.
The Unicorn has but one horn in the middle of its forehead. It is the only animal that ventures to attack the elephant; and so sharp is the nail of its foot, that with one blow it can rip the belly out of that beast. Hunters can catch the unicorn only by placing a young virgin in his haunts. No sooner does he see the damsel, than he runs towards her, and lies down at her feet, and so suffers himself to be captured by the hunters. The unicorn represents Jesus Christ, who took on Him our nature in the Virgin’s womb. . . . Its one horn signifies the Gospel of Truth.
The European belief in unicorns stems in part from ancient pagan Greek sources as well as the Septuagint versions of the Hebrew scripture. When the Hebrew Bible was translated into Greek, the Hebrew word reem, which might mean a wild ox, was translated monokeros (one-horned). This rendering was followed in later Latin versions of the Bible, which in turn influenced English translations such as the King James Version. The Book of Numbers (23:22) says: “God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.”
The Revised Standard Version of the Bible in its translation of the verse substitutes “wild ox” for unicorn. One medieval Jewish folktale said the unicorn had perished in Noah’s flood because it was too large to enter the ark. Another Jewish folktale argued that God never destroys his own creation; if the unicorn was too large to get into the ark, then God would have let it swim behind the ark.
Along with the unicorn as a beneficent symbol, such as Jesus Christ, the animal was also identified with evil and death. In The Golden Legend, a series of saints’ lives by Jacobus de Voragine written in the 13th century, the “unicorn is the figure of Death, which continually followeth man and desireth to seize him.” Death rides a unicorn in some late medieval Books of Hours. In the Ancrene Riwle, a 12th-century book of rules for nuns, the unicorn appears as a symbol of wrath, along with the lion for pride, the serpent for envy, and the bear for sloth.
The Church Fathers at the Council of Trent, held in the 16th century, forbade the use of the unicorn as a symbol of Christ. One legend they cited was from Leonardo da Vinci’s Bestiary, in which the artist made the unicorn a symbol of lust. The unicorn’s horn was thought to have magic curative powers; many late medieval monasteries and cathedrals were believed to possess them, and they appear in inventories of Queen Elizabeth I and other monarchs of the period. Powders purporting to be made from crushed unicorn horns were sold by apothecaries.
As late as the French Revolution the unicorn was believed to exist, and a “unicorn’s” horn was used to detect poison in food fed to royalty. In Chinese mythology the unicorn was one of the four animals of good omen, the others being the phoenix, the dragon, and the tortoise. According to one story, when Confucius was born, a unicorn spit out a piece of jade with the inscription announcing the event: “Son of the essence of water, kingdoms shall pass away, but you will be a king, though without a throne.” James Thurber, in his Fables for Our Time (1940), includes a comical episode called “The Unicorn in the Garden.”

7, 17, 22! :)
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them? I HATED Elektra but I've cooled down and now I find her just boring. Sorry, Elektra. I just don't like that character archetype, I guess. Fandom makes her very cruel with no vulnerabilities, just a sassy, sexy psychopath. But she does have more depth in the show than she does in fic. I don't hate her anymore but if I see a fic with significant Elektra in it, I click out of it and read something else. Another fandom, different answer. Crowley from Good Omens. I DON'T hate him and never will but I despair of how he becomes a wooby self-insert for so many fans. He's badass, let him be badass! He's so fun to write, though. 17. there should be more of this type of fic/art Honestly, just more INTERESTING and unique drawings of Matt Murdock. I've seen a thousand drawings of his handsome face, just character studies, I guess. I know he's cute to look at and draw but people should draw more action shots. Daredevil, not Matt! And the people deserve more comics Daredevil fanart. Whoo, never thought I'd say that. As for fic, well... 😏 For such a violent show, the fandom sure churns out a lot of friendly, cuddly fics. Wish the fic writers could write a bit of gore or something. Or horror! For a show with mystical immortal ninjas, I was expecting more horror fics! 22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores Gonna go with a wildcard here and say: in the comics, Foggy Nelson canonically knows Jack Hammer (Weasel from Deadpool). Jack Hammer canonically went to school with Peter Parker and was his classmate and rival. Jessica Jones canonically went to school with Peter Parker and had a huge crush on him. Come on, fic writers, make with the crossovers PLEASE!

Books I am currently reading and why I haven't finished them yet 📓🕰️
Diaries of a reader who forgets about her books, does not have time or just procrastinates reading. Most of these books were started many months ago and I haven't finished them yet. Here's why.
The Golden Enclaves (The Scholomance, vol.3), by Naomi Novik — I just started this book and I am loving it, so I am not really finding any problem with it. I loved the first two books and I was waiting for the third one to be translated in my mother tongue. When I saw this in the bookshop I didn't have one single coherent thought. I just bought it and immediately started reading it. I expect to finish it very soon, and be devastated by it.
Good Omens, by Neil Gaiman — Okay. Controversial opinion, maybe. I started this book a year ago (maybe more), then I completely forgot I started it. Perhaps it's a me problem, aka I am not in the right mood, but I don't find it as enjoyable as I thought I would. I don't know. I will finish it though, because I am convinced it's just me who's not in the right mindset.
She Who Became the Sun, by Shelley Parker-Chan — I just find this one a bit too slow paced for my tastes. I love the writing style, though. This is another book I started a long time ago but never had time to finish it.
Cemetery Boys, by Aiden Thomas — I forgot I had started this book.
Aristotle and Dante Dive Into the Waters of the World, by Benjamin Alire Sáenz — Oh, how I love this one. The first book got me emotional so many times, and this one is doing the same. However, I need to be in the mood for some deep thoughts to be able to read it, which is shy I am proceeding very very slowly with it. At least I have a book for those moments.
The Winter of the Witch, by Katherine Arden — This is the book I am currently reading on my Kindle, so that's why it's taking me so long to read it. I usually bring the Kindle with me on vacation or when I am travelling so I have something to read, so this is more of a casual reading. I love the story though, and I devoured the second book. So I know I will love this third book as well.
The Lost Book of the White, by Cassandra Clare — I keep forgetting about this book too, but for good reason. I am not really liking it, and that's a shame. I love Shadowhunters and I love Malec but in this book their dynamics seem so repetitive. It's a constant loop of Magnus feeling responsible and Alec reassuring him that he is not. It's driving me mad, which is why I haven't finished it yet.
I also have an Italian children's book that I won't add to the list because I barely started it — I probably read the first page or something like that. But I keep forgetting I have to read it so at least I added it on Storygraph.
With that being said, I hope you liked my little reading update. I hope I can finish all of these books before the new semester begins. I think I can manage, most of these are halfway completed.
Now pls hit me with your recommendations, I really need to discover new books to read — even if my tbr is neverending.

Tagged by @setnet to do last book, current book, next book.
Last book: Into the Riverlands by Nghi Vo (print), and The Golden Enclaves (audiobook) by Naomi Novik.
Both were excellent - I like The Singing Hills cycle for the way it approaches stories, it's very Pratchettian that way; and I have Thoughts about The Golden Enclaves that might need more time, another listen or some fic for me to articulate properly.
Current book: Red Rising (audiobook) by Pierce Brown and Husband Material (audiobook) by Alexis Hall
Husband Material is popcorn reading, something light with disaster gays who need to communicate their feelings a little bit more (though they are learning). Red Rising? I don't know why this series is so popular, popular enough to get a board game based on it. It's very much baby's first Ancient Rome inspired dystopian sci-fi, and there are better YA options in that micro-genre published in the last decade.
Next book: Into the Riverlands (audiobook) by Nghi Vo, Cruel Seduction (audiobook) by Katee Robert, Pulling the Wings off Angels (print) by KJ Parker, and Some Desperate Glory (print) by Emily Tesh
The print ones I may or may not get through before they are returned to the library, but I live in hope. The Emily Tesh is firmly in my need to read, because there is non-monogamy (apparently), plus some funky stuff with reproduction/pregnancy. The KJ Parker is a reluctant one, because I dislike how he writes, but the angel/demon books are basically Good Omens fic with extra theology.
And yes, I am rereading Into the Riverlands already. I had it my holds for ages, so might as well reread it in audio. (Also I wanna see how the character voices are done.) I'm not particularly looking forward to this installment of the Dark Olympus series, but reading mainstream erotic romance is market research for when I write PWP (in a sort of what not to do half the time).
I would like to hear from @nostalgia-tblr, @zahnie and idk, @farragoofwires are reading. (But no obligation, and if you are not mentioned but still would like to fill this out, please tag me as having tagged you so I can be nosy!)
