last chapter of "Open my eyes" today :(

it's been so fun following this fic, geeking, freaking out, almost having multiple heart attacks, all that fun stuff. so when it comes out later tonight (it's nighttime for me) I will try and write an "essay" on it. my thoughts, feelings, etc. and it will probably be on this post, so look out for that. (now under the cut)

this fic is so well written. everything comes together so smoothly!

I adore the pure ACCURACY of these characters. the entire time I was reading, I went "this is SO them!!!" I just love the way Bugga writes, man.

Cerise made me want to strangle the screen! so good, this is how you make a character dislikeable in a good way.

and also! I didn't think this was possible, but ofc, Bugga does the impossible yet again. she made me LIKE FELIX. the people who know me know that I can't stand that dude. but Bugga changed my mind somehow. it's so mind blowing how just writing alone can change someone's mind like that.

I felt so sad for AdriChat, my poor baby. he's been through so much, and I hope the show will address this in S6 like Bugga did here. there's so much to unpack, and she did it all in just a 15 chapter fanfiction... FOR FREE. I would pay to read this if I could. I doubt the writers will accomplish anything even remotely close to this masterpiece. Adrien's reactions are so realistic for his character, so justified. I could feel his anger and sadness when reading, and I understood every action and thought. he was so great here.

and Marinette... my favorite girlfailure Marinette.

she's so accurate the way she responds to things. Marinette is ACTION, she doesn't think much before she goes through with things. she fails sometimes to consider "what would *person* want in this situation?"

example: Guilttrip with Juleka and Rose, the s5 finale (lying to Adrien to avoid hurting him), Mr pigeon 72 with Kagami, etc.

she's so focused on trying to protect the person or make them feel better that the thought of putting herself in their shoes slips her mind. that doesn't mean she's selfish or emotionless. just that she tends to get tunnel-sighted a lot.

favorite time of the year: april and late august. spring is my favorite season but regardless of that, april is my favorite because it's set in that sweet time after winter ends but spring hasn't actually started properly yet, until it does at some point throughout the month. and late august doesn't have a specific reason, i just always had good memories made around that time.

comfort foods: peanuts, probably! they're addictive so they calm me down haha. i also really like to consume raisins as a snack, although not as much as peanuts.

do you collect anything? the only thing that comes to mind is my stack of old postcards with cute vintage illustrations on them! i love to go to an antique store and look for them, there's a huge bunch there and they all have interesting letters at the back from random people who sent them to their loved ones. my favorite is the one of a mother sending a letter to her child who was staying over at their grandparent's house and she's asking them if they need more socks so she could send them their way😂 also, it's always a thrill to find a good love letter!

favorite drinks: i'll be completely honest, it's still a chocolate milk to this day lmao. i'd be lying if i said otherwise

uhhh is it bad that i'd rather accept physical abuse over the sentidrien theory? anyway, that's something i've always wondered about, since adrien usually seems so tense/on edge around his father, but i figured it either doesn't happen (except 'chat blanc'), or it's not shown because of the nature of the show (a light-hearted cartoon). however, i think the problem with this theory is that adrien is a model, and as such any bruise will be immediately noticed by professionals in the field, or he might just not get modeling jobs. gabriel does seem to idolize his son's looks/career. is there a way your theory can work around this aspect of adrien's life?

Given that the physical abuse/Gabriel's anger management issues and all around bad parenting really don't come out of nowhere in the show and have been set up neatly over all seasons, and as long as you don't condone physical abuse irl, I'd say you're fine haha

Firstly, I think that Adrien's attitude vis à vis Gabriel in early seasons isn't necessarily a reflection of ongoing physical abuse, but rather of not knowing where they stand after Emilie's death (I can't remember if it was also said directly in the show, but Adrien says that Gabriel changed after she passed away in one of the Webisodes). That doesn't mean that there is no abuse going on, since there's definite emotional abuse the rest of the time; Gabriel manipulates Adrien and even others (e.g. Marinette in Chat Blanc) on several occasions, notably using preventing him from going to school as a threat. And after the Collector and his "anger fit" (since that's what Adrien thinks it was, and I think I said before that it can't have been something that was ooc of Gabriel, otherwise it probably would have made Adrien tick), Adrien could still be afraid of the damage Gabriel could do, even if it's not directly targeted at him.

Now to come back to actual physical abuse, I also did wonder about the model aspect when writing my previous post, and my conclusion was that Gabriel would be the type who takes his ring off (with a focus on the gesture) to slap Adrien's face (which in my mind is the "best" way to represent physical abuse, considering the context of the show) - it would be less likely to leave a long-term mark than keeping the ring on (which Gabriel would have thought of before hitting Adrien because of the image it would give out, and the scandal it could potentially cause). This would probably be followed by Gabriel apologising profusely, maybe saying something about being on edge lately, but not developing that point (or saying that it's hard without Emilie), that he really can't stand him standing up to him, but getting an icepack for Adrien's red cheek; I could see Adrien being good about it, apologising himself, but still being rightly emotionally scarred by the slap, to the point of not wanting it to happen again, hence Ephemeral.

The other possibility is Gabriel kept his ring, but struck Adrien somewhere that's concealed by his clothing, e.g. the top of his arms (since apart from that bathing suit photoshoot in Mr Pigeon 72, all of his photoshoots were dressed up), so a bruise wouldn't be visible, and Gabriel wouldn't have to stare at it every time he sees Adrien until it healed.

If we are referring to this scene:

I don't think it was a panic attack, to me this is more a sign of trauma and fear than anything else. But I don't need to go into this specifically because @parismystere did a great job analyzing the body language here (spoilers for Gloob's trailer for Ephemeral).

I always took Adrien's history to be a great metaphor for trauma while Marinette would be a metaphor for anxiety, but anyone can have a panic attack.

The challenge here is that it's hard for anyone who isn't the person experiencing a panic attack to recognize that someone is having a panic attack.

By definition a panic attack will feature an individual experiencing a number of somatic symptoms that are happening at once (although not all of them need to be present for it to be a panic attack)

As you can see by the symptoms listed, many of them are internal somatic (physical) symptoms or internal thoughts that prolongate the duration. Typically a panic attack will last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes, with highs and lows. A person might feel like they are having a heart attack like something is extremely wrong and they're in danger.

Since most of these symptoms aren't going to be easy to recognize by a viewer, we need some very obvious cues from the characters that it's happening. In my work I run through the symptoms with my clients to make sure they can describe them and then we treat it like a panic attack and utilize coping strategies (like some of the ones in the photo above, as well as grounding techniques or mindfulness). If it's anxiety, we target the thoughts themselves.

In the show, there are several instances where the person being akumatized may be experiencing a panic attack. The best example might be Juleka who has been targeted for her worry either about being forgotten or for Rose.

It's hard to figure out whether Marinette has full-blown panic attacks, as opposed to just falling into a thinking trap that causes her to spiral. I've looked through a few episodes where I remember her getting close (Gang of Secrets, Sentibubbler, Origins, Shanghai, etc.) but nothing stood out really.

The reality is that we just don't know enough about the character's somatic symptoms or distorted cognitions for me to say ah yes this is a panic attack and not just a character experiencing emotion dysregulation and a thinking trap. as part of generalized anxiety. They may seem similar but in reality, there are noticeable differences

However, there is one instance in the show that might be a representation of panic attacks if we analyze it hard enough.

In Sandboy, we see Adrien have what may have been the closest to a panic attack when he realized his worst fear became reality.

It comes complete with the initial panic, fear of threat/danger, a feeling of doom and being trapped, like this will never end.

We also see him waiting for danger to pass, before it eventually returns to baseline when Plagg, his source of freedom and peace, returns and Adrien is able to break free from the confines of his fear/panic.

Also, this isn't really related but we've also seen Adrien being the most empathetic character in the show by spending time by Juleka's side supporting her while she has what might also be a panic attack in Mega Leech

Which is just a way for me to push my Adrien becomes a therapist headcanon agenda.

 - I’m appreciating the camera angles and panning in this episode 

 - I’m also appreciating that the pacing is notably different than in the later seasons. Not sure if this is because of a shift in focus or a shift in storytelling abilities, but things move very quickly here 

 - Introducing Chloé, André and Roger (and Jean whats-his-name). Possibly also Nathalie?

 - Chloé introducing herself to Gabriel, too

 - And what a day for that last one. But yeeeeeah he’s still himself

 - Early show Gabriel had more time on his hands, huh? It’d have been on-brand for him to arrange the competition to akumatise someone over it, but nope: police-harassed birdfeeder it is

ok so now that we have the whole season I redid the tier list (I belive by @polkadotbrat)

and very quick thoughts, these were supposed to be a sentence each but I couldnt help myself

ma poule tier- its all the felix episodes cuz I am only invested in him at this point) strike back may be my overall fav this season cuz I was torn between wanting felix to be the dog and the peacock but strike back let me have my cake and eat it too also ik that felix giving hawkie the whole miracle box is like an awful betrayal or whatever but the miraculous zoo is gone thank god tho the ladynoir moment had me feeling empty and I just cant empathise with marinette at all at this point because none of the things she actually fucked up this whole season blew up in her face she just got played by felix and honestly good for felix. Also isnt lucky charms whole thing "it gives you what you need not what you want" and it pointed at felix, when Marinette could have picked up Adrien from the past TM before risk was active instead of Felix whos just unaffected. tho maybe its just that in Felix the episode its established that he can throw with dead accuracy so the lucky charm lead her to felix because hes good at throwing??? idk man ML is weird with this stuff

silver medal- Psychomedian almost made it to ma poule because ladynoir my formerly beloved but as my investment in them as of end of season 4 is dead its getting knocked down a tier. Crocoduel, purple tigress my beloved. Glaciator 2, Marichat shenanigans were very fun. WIshmaker, I like luka in this one and if the show pretends ephemeral never happened and he gets to do actual things I might actually like luka overall. Rocketear, angst my beloved, spawned good fics, detective nino was funny.

did something for someone- Gang of Secrets, eh honestly idc but the adressing of Marinette being stressed is nice, Hack-san, I liked scarabella and chats dynamic, please let there be canon bridgette so that felila is guaranteed to never happen tho canon bri will also need a personality shift (maybe be more Lawful Good than she already was to balance Felix being chaos energy?). Optigami- smart plan ig. Mister Pigeon 72, all it did was convince me that it should have been Marigami and Lukeadrien not Adrigami and Lukanette tbh, Hawkmoth x Mr Pigeon my... I wanna say crack ship beloved but I seriously think Feluka could work and Im not sure if theyre aware of each others existence since Luka isnt in Adriens class (Im not rewatching "Felix" to confirm this). Sentibubbler, congrats Alya stans? closest to being in the next tier

Truth and Lies- (total deadpan) oh no Lukanette and Adrigami the two ships we saw develop so much on screen and I was completely emotionally invested in and that the NY special didnt tell us broke up immediately after they started dating, seriously tho I cant take lukanette seriously as a pairing and Adrigami has potential but im kinda eh also Kagami literally has the "I will lose the love triangle" hair so.

Kuro neko, almost everything @parismystere has said about this episode, I was clowning and hoping it would be a "adrien I need you to be a temp cat while I find Chat Noir" while Felix is in town idc about the middle but Adrien does tell felix he is chat so Felix as adrien says "oh well I happen to know chat noirs identity-" and gives the ring back to adrien while also solving the "we cant reach chat cuz no one knows his identity" problem cuz 'Adrien' knows who chat is, also this would tip them off to something fishy going on with Felix' well... Id say betrayal but for that Felix would have had to have been on their side and Felix doesnt seem to be interested in LB and CNs miraculous anyway. Sole Crusher and Queen Banana- Zoe my beloathed, also Id watch Chloes movie over whatever garbage they were actually filming any day, a chaotic bad movie is always better than a boring one.

One of my favourite headcanons is that Felix and Adrien were really energetic kids and loved to playfight with each other (like I used to do with my brother). Their parents decided to sign them up for karate, so they'd have somewhere to channel their energy and learn self-discipline (plus, you know, to avoid them accidentally hurting each other or breaking something expensive). Adrien had to quit karate eventually (I like parismystere's idea that it's because of Graham de Vanilys moving to England) but got into fencing instead, Felix kept going. They still trained with each other sometimes, though they started to see each other less often.

no superpowers au in which marinette studies fashion design at university, but instead of doing part-time jobs, she supplements her income by having an online store called miraculous ladybug that is a hit among paris' young adults. not only does she sell unique handmade t-shirts, sweatshirts, tote bags, jewelry, but she customizes her creations based on what her customers have told her about themselves, and her work is always praised for that intimate touch. one day, she's on the métro, tired from carrying bags of supplies she needs for her work, when she spies a cute young man, probably her age, reading a natsume sōseki book with a furrowed brow. and just when she thinks that he looks kind of familiar, the métro abruptly stops, and oh no, her supplies are flying everywhere! cheeks red in embarrassment, she clumsily tries to gather her things, only to see that the cute guy is helping her and gently giving her back her stuff with a shy but very sweet smile. of course, marinette is going to ask him what is his name, if he'd like to grab coffee with her, if they can get married, et cetera, but it's his métro station and he has to get off :( she's lost him forever! at the last possible moment, however, she notices that he has a tote bag with a black cat and a cat pun on it - a tote bag she made!!!

marinette, of course, has lost the contact information of the cute boy who ordered a tote bag from her, so she's resigned to complaining to alya about how she'll die alone... only for alya to use her internet savvy to post from marinette's account on a popular parisian facebook group about a "very beautiful young man" that had a mdc tote with a black cat on it, who "very kindly helped me in a moment of need" and who, tragically, got off "at at champs-élysées–clemenceau at 5pm", and if he's on here, can he shoot a message? no way around it, marinette is definitely going to kill alya, but then this guy named nino tags someone named adrien agreste in the comment section, who apparently looked through marinette's links on her profile and seems totally smitten that he has found ladybug, the owner of the store he likes so much!
