Chief Master Sergeant Wayne Fisk High Risk, High Reward
Son Tay Raid On November 21, 1970, then SSgt. Wayne Fisk, a pararescueman, joined the all-volunteer search and rescue operation at Son Tay, North Vietnam. Sixty-one American POWs were reportedly held at the camp. Although no prisoners were found, the raid was considered a tactical success. On the return flight, Sergeant Fisk rescued a downed pilot from a separate mission. His overall actions earned him his first Silver Star.
SS Mayaguez Incident Aboard a CH-53 helicopter, call sign Knife-51, TSgt. Fisk volunteered to extract American forces off Koh Tang Island in May 1975. As a pararescue specialist, he was responsible for retrieving US service members from the island. Despite heavy weapons and rocket fire, Knife-51 landed and evacuated the remaining personnel. TSgt. Fisk’s actions earned him a second Silver Star.
During his distinguished career, Chief Fisk served on the primary recovery team of NASA Apollo missions 8, 9, and 10. He is also credited with being the last American to engage communist forces in Southeast Asia. Finally, Chief Fisk led the efforts to establish the USAF Enlisted Heritage Hall, which preserves the history of enlisted Airmen, serving as it first director.
FINAL COMBAT: THE MAYAGUEZ INCIDENT AT KOH TANG After South Vietnam fell to communist forces, the US was again involved in combat in Southeast Asia. In May 1975, the Cambodian Khmer Rouge Navy seized the American cargo ship SS Mayaguez and its crew of thirty-nine in international waters.
President Gerald Ford acted decisively to rescue the crew. Air Force gunships sank three Cambodian patrol boats to prevent them from taking the Mayaguez’s crew from Koh Tang to the mainland. Soon after, US Marines boarded the Mayaguez and found it abandoned.
Near Disaster Marines landed on Koh Tang in Air Force helicopters to rescue the crew, but incomplete intelligence made the operation a near disaster. The Cambodians shot down four helicopters, damaged five more, and killed fourteen Americans. More troops moved in urgently to reinforce the 131 Marines and five USAF aircrew trapped on Koh Tang.
As the assault continued, the Mayaguez crew appeared in a small boat, and were rescued unharmed. President Ford halted offensive action, and the operation shifted from assault to evacuation.
Determined Evacuation Another 100 Marines moved into Koh Tang to reinforce and extract the trapped Americans. Only three USAF helicopters were left to extract more than 200 troops. On the last trip to the beach, USAF pararescueman TSgt Wayne Fisk left his helicopter to find two missing Marines still laying down covering fire. He led them to the helicopter, and the fourteen-hour mission ended.
Three Marines, inadvertently left on the island in the darkness and confusion, were killed and buried within a few days by the Khmer Rouge. Total US casualties included eighteen dead and fifty wounded. Twenty-three more USAF personnel died in a support force helicopter crash in Thailand due to mechanical failure.
Quick, effective action at Koh Tang by USAF, Marine, and Navy forces prevented a bad situation from becoming much worse. In particular, the persistence, determination, and heroism of USAF helicopter crews saved many lives. The action at Koh Tang between May 12-15, 1975, was the last combat action in Southeast Asia for US forces. Source

IZZYYYYYY I MISSED YOUUUUUU
How about some Parting Words Regret with Bruno and another OC of your choice? Doesn't have to be major character death either, could be kidnapping or missing persons to make it work :D
-- @whumperofworlds
I missed you too!!! I hope you like this!
I know @i-eat-worlds and @ocean-blue-whump extremely loves Khrys since I chose her in this, so teheeeeeee!
TW: alcohol drinking, anger outburst, missing person
~~~
Bruno sighs deeply, leaning back in his office chair and staring at the computer screen for far too long. His eyes sting and water just enough to bother him, causing him to rub them tiredly, and so he reaches for his glass of whatever concoction he could rummage from the team's kitchen. It's been over a week now, and the trail has gone cold, empty, and dark. Now the panic, shame, and regret is seeping in, his hand trembling when he brings the cool alcohol to his lips. The burning embarrassment can't be masked by his beverage, and he finally whispers, "Where could you have gone, Khrystyna?"
The last thing he can remember is a small spat between them, Bruno telling the talented woman that she will never save everyone and she needs to get it in her head that she will fail. The killing blow was the growl of:
"If you can't face the pain and run through this, then you are no pararescueman!"
Even the memories of it causes the usually stoic and loving man to bury his head in his hand.
"What have I done?" Though from sadness, Bruno's anger is rooted, so he slams his fist so hard into the keyboard that it breaks, the keycaps flying all over and the picture of Khrys getting magnified to just her eyes on the computer screen from the keys getting smashed. He looks into her eyes, as though she's right in front of him, judging him, burning through his soul. "Please forgive me, kiddo." The beg was part prayer and a cry of help, his eyes brimming with tears from pushing away someone he cares about.
Frank versus The Panda. Who's limping away and who is knocked out?
Consider It A Challenge || Accepting {{tagging: my darling @wardogsong }}
It takes Beth nearly an hour or more to answer the question texted to her, as it is precisely the amount of time it takes to finish one remarkably large cup of coffee and flush the exhaustion from her system. The key mistake she makes is reading the message aloud, including the fact that it comes from an unknown number. "Like I need more context," she says. "You an' him scrap f' fun, or like beef seriously? Or is it in a sorta...pin me f' wall an' kiss me-" "For fuck sake, Beth. I'm eating." She glances at her older brother across the table. "Well, dat why I say need more conte-" "Seriously? I will hang you off the roof. Don't think I can't or won't." "Blah blah, protest too much. You jus' jealous 'cause I t'ink he's really neat, an' every kine about him offend ya sensibilities." She isn't wrong. Her brother was a modern-day superman,sure. Went through the pipeline and everything to be a combat Pararescueman. Sure, there were certain classified missions that went beyond the parameters of the job, but isn't that what got Frank in trouble, too? If the situation were drinking, she is absolutely certain Andy would put him in the bag. He doesn't think she knows, but he'd been drinking since at least fifteen. If it's a fist-fight? Her brother is completely hosed.First, she's absolutely certain Frank would fight God and win. And if he doesn't? He'll get up. He'll keep going until he's the last man standing, which mystifies her. He laughed her off once, when she tried to bring it up. Said it was just because he was a marine, and they don't know when to quit. She's grown up surrounded by them and by sailors and she knows he's not being untruthful but...there's something there. She saw the x-rays. She read his charts. She patches him up when he comes to her and there's always a new scar, a new wound that wasn't there before. He doesn't come to her because he needs her. He comes because he's too tired to do it himself. She knows about ghosts. Most of the Traditions do, and even some of the others will grudgingly admit to it out of one side of their mouths while talking about how to destroy or contain them out the other. Once, when she brought up her suspicions without naming names, her cabal-mate told her that there were rumours. Legend tells him that the first of that kind was Persephone. But even he, more knowledgeable about the dead than Beth ever cares to be, knows little more than that. Could Frank really be one of the Risen as they're called? She's too afraid to ask. But if he is... If he is...then life is about to get a whole lot more complicated than she's capable of considering this very moment. {Text: Anonymous} Depending on what you mean on the question, I'm going to put my money on Frank Castle every time. First, he's a Devil Dog. Second, he's Frank and I don't think even my brother really gets that, you know?
Love Grows (demon!Bucky and pre-serum!Steve omegaverse au)
TRIGGER WARNING: dubious consent, aggressive foreplay
A DAY OR TWO later, Steve met up with Sam. The pair headed over to The White Wolf. It wasn't the nicest place, but it packed the perfect punch of nostalgia. Reminded Steve of college and how the pair would hustle the alphas at billiards who thought they were better because of their designation.
"So," Sam started, taking a seat at a booth. Wiping the table off as he sat, "Tell me about your... friend."
"Oh, c'mon," Steve rolled his eyes, even though his heart was racing. "He's a friend. Nothing else to really tell. Just a friend."
"As we've established," Sam took a drink of his pumpkin lager. It was a little early for Steve's liking to have the seasonal spice in his beverages, but Sam would drink it year round if he could. "Butwho is he?"
Steve shrugged, taking a drink of his electric lemonade. "I don't know. We're not... close... or anything."
"And yet you were strolling through Central Park together?" Sam quirked a brow, trying to suss Steve out.
"We just happened to be at the park at the same time," Steve rolled his eyes. "It wasn't planned or anything. And then we both just so happened to be going in the same direction. That's it."
Nodding, Sam rolled the beer bottle between his hands, "And what does Hodge think of him?"
Steve shrugged, "Bucky has connections and, well, y'know how Hodge is."
Sam nodded again, but didn't say anything. Instead, he took another drink of his lager.
"I'm not cheating," Steve assured, even though he didn't feel like he needed to. He loved his husband and wanted to be with him. That was why he married him, after all. "If that's what you're thinking."
Sighing, Sam said, "I know you're not like that. I've just been... forget it."
"What's going on?"
Running his hand over his buzz-cut, Sam admitted, "Riley's been distant."
"'You think he's cheating?"
Shrugging his broad shoulders, "It's crossed my mind."
Steve reached out to give Sam's hand a comforting squeeze. His heart hurt for his friend. Out of every couple that he knew, he would've thought that Sam and Riley would've outlasted all of them. The pair was practically glued at the hip. Sure, they had been young when they got together and hadn't known each other very long before then, but they were clearly compatible. Not very many people believed that was possible, but Steve did. He blamed his parents and their beliefs on soulmates for that though.
Still, Steve couldn't even imagine Riley so much as looking at another omega, let alone having an affair. Riley loved Sam, just as much as Sam loved him. If not more than Sam loved him.
"Maybe he's just worried about work," Steve offered. Knowing from personal experience how Hodge grew distant when his head was in a role. He couldn't even imagine what it would be like if Hodge was a pararescueman like Riley and was preparing to leave on another tour.
"Maybe," Sam half-heartedly agreed. Probably just trying to appease his friend so they can talk about something else. "Have you planned your next art show?"
Dramatically, Steve dropped his head onto the slightly sticky table. "I don't even want to think about it."
"That good, huh?"
Steve flipped him off, causing the other omega to laugh. Thankfully, that seemed to break the tension and now they could just have fun. They ordered a couple more drinks, messed with the younger alphas that challenged them to a game of billiards who – just like the ones they knew in college – thought they were better than two omegas simply because of their designation. Sam and Steve sure showed them.
When Steve finally arrived home, Hodge was coming out of the shower, more vivacious and present than he had been all week. Steve's good mood remained and heightened. Adoring his husband whenever he acted like the optimist he had been when they first met.
The only thing that threatened to hinder Steve's good mood was how the stench of that god awful terrigen root seeped out from that cursed charm. The whole bathroom smelled of it. And more than that, the bitter, prickly odor had even found its way into the bedroom.
Getting some tinfoil from the kitchen, Steve was on a mission. He pulled open the drawer to the bathroom vanity and wrapped the necklace inside of it. Scrunching and twisting the ends to seal the filigree ball and its unfortunate chain.
"It'll probably lose its strength in a few days," Hodge said.
"It better," Steve threatened to no one, spraying the air with a scent neutralizer.
Sauntering up behind Steve, Hodge wrapped his arms around the petite omega's waist, pulling him flush against himself. Steve shuddered when he felt his husband's hardening cock pressed against his ass. With Hodge's towel falling, the only thing that kept them from skin to skin was Steve's clothing.
As the beta pressed open-mouthed kisses down the column of Steve's neck, he began grinding his erection against Steve. Almost instantly, Steve's own dick started to stiffen. With the buzz from the booze and the intoxicating scent from his husband, Steve was practically putty in the taller blond's hands. Hodge could have anything that he wanted from him. And Steve hoped that one day – soon – that what Hodge wanted was the same that Steve did.
Letting his head lull back onto Hodge's broad shoulder, Steve reached up to tangle his fingers in those luscious, still-damp, curls. Insisting, "Take me to bed."
Sweeping Steve's legs out from underneath him, Hodge lifted his omega into his arms, carrying him to their bed. Playfully, Hodge tossed him onto the bed. Before Steve had even stopped bouncing on the mattress, Hodge grabbed his ankle and yanked him to the edge of the bed. Surprised by the action, Steve let out an undignified squawk before chuckling.
Aggressively, Hodge nearly ripped Steve's clothes in his haste to get him out of them. Steve could've sworn that he heard a tear of fabric, and he mentally made a note to check later. Right now though, all of his thoughts were on Hodge. How passionate the beta was being. Almost as though Hodge couldn't bear not being inside of him for a moment longer.
Flipping Steve onto his belly, Hodge shoved the omega's slender legs beneath him, causing him to be ass up, head down. Making him present. Usually, Steve only did so when he was at the peak of his heat. Typically, it was the easiest and most comfortable position to be in to be knotted. But Hodge wasn't an alpha. He didn't have a knot.
No matter how much he was acting like an alpha in rut currently.
Bypassing their normal routine of opening Steve slowly, Hodge shoved two fingers in. His slick hadn't fully started flowing and Steve hissed at the burn. Clenching his teeth, he tried to relax his frame. After all, the burn wouldn't last for long.
"Not so rough," Steve said, glancing over his shoulder.
In reply, Hodge blanketed his larger frame over Steve's so he could pin his slender shoulders further into the mattress. Turning his head to the side, Steve gasped when Hodge added a third finger too quickly.
"Easy," Steve complained, summoning all his strength to show upward. However, he wasn't able to knock his husband off. Not with the beta draped over him. His heart started to race and his breathing became shallow. He was panicking. "Gilmore!"
Leaning back so he could line himself up, Hodge kept one of his large hands in between Steve's shoulders. Moving up to his elbows, Steve looked back at his husband. It was as though he wasn't even there. Hodge's eyes were icy and vacant. As though he wasn't even there with Steve. Steve had never seen someone so void before.
Terrified, Steve used his fear and concern and pushed himself up, knocking Hodge on his ass on the floor. Turning, Steve climbed off the bed. Kneeling in front of Hodge, Steve hesitantly lifted his hand, to push Hodge's blond curls off his face.
"Hodge? Honey?" Steve placed his finger under that pronounced chin and used it to tilt that handsome face up to look at him.
The beta blinked a few times, his gaze finally clearing up. Once Hodge's brows furrowed, Steve sighed in relief. Even if Hodge looked at both of their naked bodies and asked, "What the hell happened?"
"You –" Steve paused, confused just like his husband. Maybe even a little more. "You don't know?"
Hodge looked over their nakedness and shook his head. Chuckling, "Guess I lost myself for a minute."
"Y'think?" Steve scoffed, still concerned.
Nodding, Hodge pulled Steve onto his lap, "But who could blame me. Men fight wars for an ass like yours."
Tossing his head back, Steve laughed. The air was lighter and Steve was grateful for that. Wrapping his arms around Hodge's broad shoulders, he leaned down to kiss those plush lips. Figuring that Hodge had probably had a few –
CREAK!
Pulling away from the kiss, Steve looked towards the doorway. For a moment, he felt eyes on him. Just as he was about to stand, Hodge pulled him back down. Bringing Steve's face close to his own and guiding the omega in a deep kiss. Eventually, the only thing on Steve's mind was Hodge.
Maybe Walker and Wanda should join the same support group. 🤔
It's worth noting that, after Lemar was killed, Sam didn't try to see if Lemar could be helped, which you'd think he would as a former pararescueman: and neither he nor Bucky tried to see if John was okay. They both just ran away.
What makes that more apparent is that this is the same Sam who gave up his opportunity to escape the airport battle with his freedom to go back and try to save Rhodey after Rhodey got shot down by Vision.
Good is not a thing you are. It's a thing you do.
Credit to the original Ms. Marvel comics for that quote
A sentiment that is sadly lost on the current MCU
That quote is perfect 👌
I'm afraid Phase 4's core message is the exact opposite of that. You're good if we frame you as good regardless of your actions. And if we frame you as bad no matter what you do, you will be considered a villain.
Loki is the only one in the series who doesn't do anything wrong, who doesn't commit any crime or who doesn't abuse his power. Mobius and Sylvie murder people and commit awful crimes, but those are swept under the rug while Loki is condemned.
John Walker abuses his power, he murders a surrendering and unarmed man in plain daylight, he's willing to risk the lives of many to get Karli.... but he saves a van. He was "good" all along.
Ikaris betrays his team and kills Ajak but he goes on a tirade about how hard it was for him to know the truth as if Ajak hadn't known it for longer than him and carried the weight with her for years. But hey, he gets a lot of compassion while she gets none. Poor thing, he wasn't all bad.
And sometimes the movies handle things right, like what Wakanda Forever did with Namor, but the fanon misses the point completely and justifies his every action.... surely influenced by the way Marvel is treating a lot of their characters lately.
Dunno, I'd rather have movies that judge actions regardless of 'who is doing what' because that's how you make stories interesting. In the past, Marvel would write imperfect heroes and relatable villains who had a point.... but now the heroes act like villains and the bad guys have more morals than them.... but they're still framed as evil 🤷♀️
