Favorite AU idea for Dipcifica?

I was playing with a couple of AU ideas around the time Gravity Falls ended. I just never really followed up on or expanded on them in a meaningful way. Neither of these are an extreme deviation from the original show. More like interesting ‘what if’ scenarios for the characters years later.

ParanormalEnthusiast!Pacifica AU

Note: I like the idea of there being a considerate, unexpected intellectual side to Pacifica. The golf episode shows that she can be pretty disciplined and strategic. Why not apply these attributes to another pursuit and really expand on this side of her character? I honestly think Dipper and Paz would bond best over their shared smarts.

Pacifica gets a hold of an unfinished draft of one of Ford’s journals. The notes in this one specifically chronicle Ford’s fruitless search for the Fountain of Youth or similar ‘live forever’ effects. At first, Pacifica hordes this information to herself and starts on her own hunt for the Fountain of Youth. She fears for her own looks after seeing how ridiculous her mother’s morning routines are and how deeply engrained her ‘looks are everything’ attitude her parents installed is.

As she looks for the Fountain, she finds herself caught up in the romance and adventure behind finding new, different secrets of Gravity Falls. She develops a zealous enthusiasm for different kinds of science, math, and archeology; anything to help her understand different phenomena better. To gain more funds, Pacifica tells her parents about the Fountain. She starts building her own lab and hiring the world’s greatest minds to tutor her. Three years into Pacifica’s new, all-consuming hobby, she unexpectedly crosses paths with Dipper again. He’s the world’s youngest expert on the paranormal and supernatural.

Dipper is just trying to come to terms with the fact that this Pacifica is still the same Pacifica. She just had an entire eye-opening, world-broadening character arc when he wasn’t looking. Not only that, but they have more in common than ever and Pacifica brings a certain confidence/charisma to the table that Dipper never could. They’re a dream team and he’s falling for her…hard.

Wendigo!AU

Dipper is sixteen. He’s been bouncing between summers being Ford’s apprentice and running a Mystery Inc.-brand operation during the school year back home. There’s been news of strange activity around a Yellowstone Park stand-in. The park rangers, local police, and detectives can’t explain the growing number of unexplained disappearances. Park staff and tourists alike wander into the woods never to be seen again. Once every night, there’s a loud, bloodcurdling shriek followed by a deep, bone-chilling roar.

The owner of the Park is desperate to keep suspicions down. The police are demanding the Park get shut down for everyone’s safety and park staff are begging the owner to reconsider the upcoming youth retreat. The owner placates everyone by telling them he hired ‘the best’ to come investigate and deal with the issue. Enter Dipper. The owner insists Dipper pose as just another camper at the youth retreat. This way, the campers aren’t scared by the idea that things are so bad an investigator is needed but they’re still protected by the investigator, right? Dipper begrudgingly agrees. Once the retreat begins, though, things get complicated: Pacifica is one of the camp counselors.

Dipper has been keeping in touch with her through text and email. She’d been more flirty the past several months and now, here she is in person. And she thinks this summer has become a free pass for openly romancing Dipper. But as much as he wants to reciprocate, his attention is split by the looming, unknown threat to the park.

The unknown threat are wendigos. Somehow, Dipper or Paz become a wendigo and it’s up to the other to rescue them (leaning towards Dipper since this would be an opportunity to let Paz shine).
