Hoo boy. river (she/her, 33) and eva (she/he bigender, 30) bonded over being haters at their workplace 10 years ago and have been inseparable cunts in crime since. they call themselves just friends despite both knowing that they feel something for the other that's far mushier and genuine than the light-hearted insults they'll use in the place of giving these thoughts any acknowledgement. Of course nothing ever challenges this nope there is no workplace (different than the one they met at) event that causes everything to go to shit and now a bunch of different horror genres are happening at once and nearly everyone is dead or turned into some freaky monster, this life threatening circumstances certainly does not make them have to confront on a deeper level how they feel about one another. River's busy calling Eva "a fucking stupid idiot" for venturing out of the safe zone and into danger "for no fucking good reason, we're all doomed to die here anyways, why the fuck are you trying to speed things up". Because it's easier to say this instead of admitting she doesn't want to lose him, much less have him die somewhere where she'll have no way of knowing he's dead. Eva is equally blunt in terms of rudeness back to her about this. Fail situation. Probably important to mention somewhere that River does get death powers and (accidentally) rots her brain and other core functions so Eva has to deal with that (getting blood to River in a way that does not involve Eva dying in the process, as river is akin to a large frog when it comes to getting blood out of people in this state of being.)

tl;dr fail bisexuals who jackasses to everyone including each other who """care deeply""" (100% not in love guys we swear) about one another.

Rivals from childhood, after a long time of being cross continent penpals, the two starcrossed "rivals" reunite after Edwin, an esteemed poet from England, is forced to move to sunny California. Immediately they fall into a routine of annoying and pissed off each other, heightened by the burgeoning sexual tension when a fight ensues. Both repressed bisexuals, neither wanted to admit that these feelings were love until fighting turned into undressing.

Now, after turbulent fights, almost murder, and skin tingling sexual encounters, the two realized that their continued trysts would only lead to mutual self destruction. It was either they burn each other out, or try to make it last, a challenge for the morbid sadomasochistic Edwin and the depressed chronically self-sabotaging Pantucci. Despite both of them trying to make each other worse, their love for one another is the one thing that keeps them afloat.

The hedonist and the ascetic, constantly at odds with each other, yet they are the only two who truly understand one another. Whatever is going on between them would kill the average person, but it's only these two awful people who's flaws seem to complement each other perfectly who can create a relationship so toxic that it wraps back around into being true love.

Raffaello Pantucci and Sarah Lain, China's Eurasian Pivot

China’s Eurasian Pivot is a more than useful introduction to the rollout of China’s belt and road strategy during the first few years after Xi Jinping announced his grand scheme in 2013. Though published in 2017, and so not completely up-to-date, Pantucci and Lain do a fine job of outlining the various agendas China and its various neighbours have for building infrastructure, economic and security ties. Their evenhanded account highlights China’s modus operandi, exploring its strengths and weaknesses, and in the process making its rationale understandable and so offering a valuable tool in the ways of thinking that guide Chinese policy-making and its implementation. All in all, an excellent and impressively concise (just 98 pages) guide to what China is up to around its western and northern border. My only complaint: the book’s excessive use of abbreviations with no glossary or index to remind you of what they stand for when you can’t remember.

What you did like about the movie:

The creature was very good, a good mix of practical and animation.

The crew of Finnegan’s ship.

The way the creature fed was really unique.

What you didn’t like about the movie:

Too many plots. There were like four or five and it got really hard to keep track.

The fact that the cruise ship’s owner just... Knew what the creature was without any research or anything? That’s a major plot hole.

Particularly memorable scene: Vic: The scene where Pantucci gives that guy the gun and the scene that follows it. Nic: Jet-ski hallway

Would you watch it again? Vic: Yes. Nic: Yes

Reflections: Vic: “This movie was well worth the $3.79 that I paid to rent it. The SFX scenes were really well done for the 90s and while there were some really confusing plots, overall, I thought it was a pretty decent movie.” Nic: “It’s a decent monster movie. It’s from the 90s, the cgi isn’t amazing but it’s good. Just ignore some of those extra plots.”

China e Talibã fecham acordo para exploração de petróleo no Afeganistão

Afeganistão e China assinaram um contrato para a exploração do petróleo da bacia de Amu Daría, localizada no norte do país. Esse é o primeiro acordo internacional fechado pelo governo liderado pelo Talibã desde que voltou ao poder em 2021.

Segundo informações fornecidas pelas autoridades de Cabul, o contrato concederá à empresa chinesa Xinjiang Central Asia Petroleum and Gas o direito de explorar petróleo na região, a validade do acordo é de 25 anos e deverá elevar a receita do governo afegão.

Altos investimentos para exploração dos blocos de petróleo e gás no Afeganistão

Segundo o ministro interino afegão de Minas e Petróleo, a empresa deverá investir R$ 790 milhões inicialmente e desembolsar até R$ 2,6 bilhões nos três anos seguintes para conseguir explorar os cinco blocos de petróleo e gás que estão localizados m uma área de 4.500 quilômetros quadrados.

A assinatura do contrato foi realizada em Cabul e contou com a presença do embaixador chinês no Afeganistão e do vice-primeiro-ministro do Talibã para Assuntos Econômicos.

O vice-primeiro-ministro contou que a assinatura do contrato “fortalecerá a economia afegã e elevará o nível de independência de petróleo”. Já o embaixador chinês afirmou que o contrato irá apoiar o esforço afegão pela autossuficiência.

A CAPEIC deverá construir a primeira refinaria afegã

O Talibã terá ainda uma porcentagem de 20% no projeto, com expectativa de subir para 75%, a produção deve começar com 200 toneladas de petróleo por dia e aumentar para mil toneladas posteriormente. A estimativa é a de que os blocos contenham 87 milhões de barris de petróleo.

Os derivados do petróleo afegão deverão ser processados dentro do país e o combustível bruto não poderá ser exportado, por tanto, a Capeic deverá construir a primeira refinaria de petróleo bruto do Afeganistão. Havia um contrato firmado entre o governo anterior para assumir os mesmos projetos em 2011, contudo foi cancelado pelo ex-presidente Ashraf Ghani por falta de progresso.

Um grande investimento para a economia do Afeganistão

Segundo Raffaello Pantucci, membro do Royal United Services Institute, o regime fundamentalista considerou a retomada do projeto significativa, pois seus investimentos até o momento vinham apenas de empresários privados. O acordo deve criar cerca de 3 mil oportunidades de emprego para os afegãos.

O Talibã espera que a China aumente seus investimentos em recursos petrolíferos do país e vê os investimentos como uma forma de melhorar a economia interna que quase entrou em colapso depois que a ajuda internacional foi interrompida em 2021. O último acordo anunciado pelo governo Talibã foi o fornecimento de gasolina, diesel, gás e trigo para a Rússia em setembro do ano passado.

O grupo militante pediu investimentos em recursos naturais do Afeganistão

Inúmeras vezes o Talibã pediu a empresas internacionais investimentos em recursos naturais do país, contudo a condenação internacional pelas leis que impedem as mulheres de estudar e trabalhar impediram qualquer negociação até o momento. A China afirmou que não irá intervir em assuntos internos do país.

A comunidade global não reconheceu oficialmente o governo do Talibã, porém, China, Rússia e Paquistão continuam com estreitos laços políticos e econômicos com o governo. Os recursos ainda não explorados do país são estimados em mais de US$ 1 trilhão, todavia os investidores estrangeiros interessados são desestimulados pelos seus constantes conflitos internos.

O Afeganistão busca reconhecimento

O regime tem buscado reconhecimento global como governo desde que voltou ao poder, porém suas repressões ao povo afegão tem impedido qualquer perspectiva de melhora em sua relação internacional.

A maior necessidade do Afeganistão é se fortalecer financeiramente, o país possui bilhões de dólares congelados em bancos dos Estados Unidos, Europa e Oriente Médio, mas devido ao não reconhecimento internacional do atual governo não existe nenhuma previsão da liberação dos valores retidos, mesmo com os constantes apelos por parte do Talibã.
