India Snatch 8-run Win To Level T20 Series 2-2
4th T20 International - England vs India - Ahmedabad
India snatched an eight-run victory in the fourth Twenty20 international against England on Thursday to level the five-match series 2-2.
Suryakumar Yadav smashed a 31-ball 57, as India boosted by useful cameos from Rishabh Pant (30) and Shreyas Iyer (37) made their highest total of the series of 185 for 8.
England came up short during their chase of 186 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, as India’s bowlers then struck at regular intervals despite having to come to grips with the dew.
Shardul Thakur claimed three wickets, while Hardik Pandya and Rahul Chahar took two each, as India kept England to 177-8 in the first unsuccessful run chase of the series.
Jason Roy hit a quickfire 40 off 27 balls with six fours and a six before England slumped to 66 for 3 in the ninth over.
A breezy 65-run fourth wicket stand in just 36 balls between Jonny Bairstow who struck two fours and a six in a 19-ball 25, playing in his 50th T20 international and Ben Stokes kept England on course.
All-rounder Ben Stokes kept England in the hunt with a defiant 46 off 23 deliveries smashing four boundaries and three sixes.
Needing 46 from the last four overs, England lost the plot in the 17th over, when they were reduced to 140 for 6 after Stokes and skipper Eoin Morgan fell in consecutive balls holing out in the deep as Thakur struck with slower deliveries.
Pandya who was given the new ball earlier, returned to bowl Sam Curran off an inside edge with his final delivery to finish with impressive figures of two for 16.
Having lost three wickets for nine runs in the space of 10 deliveries, top-ranked England who have won their last five away T20I series had left too much to do in the end.
Jofra Archer launched a final blitz with England needing 23 from the final over giving India a scare by hitting Thakur for a six and a four.
Then there were two wides and Archer's bat broke going for a big hit, as India who have only lost a T20I series on home soil once since the World Cup T20 in 2016,,, survived to set up a thrilling finale to the series on Saturday.
"A tough game against a top side, and the dew factor was massive. With the ball we were quite clinical. Shardul turned it around but our powerplay start kept England in check and under pressure," India skipper Virat Kohli said after the win.
Eoin Morgan said that India deserved their win in the match where dew made bowling difficult.
"They controlled large parts of the game but the game did ebb and flow. Our journey, trying to learn as much as we can before the World Cup, is important," the England captain admitted.
Stokes bemoaned the lack of a recognised batsman for the climax.
"One of us has got to be there leading," he said disappointed to have got out close to his 50 when he was dominating the Indian bowlers batting only for the second time in the series. "You obviously feel more frustrated when you feel that you have the game in your hands."
"We ticked all the boxes today: bowling department, fielding department and the energy was good. And everything else took care of itself," said man of the match Yadav who took two catches after his exploits with the bat.
India started strongly with Rohit Sharma hitting a six off the first ball of the innings, before popping a return catch to Archer.
Yadav promoted to No. 3 also flicked Archer for a six over fine leg with the first ball he faced in an international innings, after missing out batting on his debut in the second match which India won comfortably.
England hit back with two quick wickets as Stokes sent back K.L. Rahul for 14, while Kohli was stumped as he danced down the track and failed to pick Adil Rashid's googly.
Yadav, who spearheaded Indian Premier League champions Mumbai Indians with his attacking batting, reached his fifty in 28 deliveries before his controversial dismissal.
Left-arm quick Sam Curran cut short Yadav's rollicking innings with Dawid Malan taking a sharp catch, which was repeatedly reviewed by the TV umpire to check whether it was a clean take in the deep.
Iyer smashed five fours and a six in his 18-ball cameo, while Pant smashed four boundaries in his knock before being castled by Archer who finished with a T20 best of 4 for 33 after claiming two wickets in the 20th over.
The final match of the series is on Saturday at the same venue.

IPL 2020: Chennai Super Kings lose against Sunrisers Hyderabad for third successive defeat | Cricket News

IPL 2020: Chennai Super Kings lose against Sunrisers Hyderabad for third successive defeat | Cricket News
So often in the past, Chennai Super Kings have ended up on the winning side from a seemingly hopeless situation with a late flourish. It seemed like CSK would do it again against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday night, but it wasn’t to be. Needing 28 runs from the final over, CSK only managed 20 runs against rookie leggie Abdul Samad as they succumbed to a 7-run loss. MS Dhoni (47 not out off 36 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja (50 off 35 balls) tried hard, but CSK’s top-order problems cost them in the end. HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD | POINTS TABLE For SRH, Priyam Garg (51 not out off 26 balls), Abhishek Sharma (31 off 24 balls) and Rashid Khan (4-0-12-0) played starring roles. There was no shortage of drama, though, towards the end. In the 19th over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar pulled up with an injury after just one ball, leaving Khaleel Ahmed to complete the over. And if that wasn’t enough, Dhoni, too, took help from the physio with him seemingly panting for breath. He wasn’t able to take full toll of the bowling after that. Coming together at 42/4, Dhoni and Jadeja were faced with a monumental task. While Jadeja was the dominant partner, the situation seemed out of hand. They were circumspect through the middle overs, knowing that another wicket at that stage would be fatal. They were especially careful against Rashid. By the time Rashid ended his spell, CSK needed an improbable 78 runs from 24 balls.
It was then that Jadeja decided to shift gears. He smashed Bhuvneshwar for three fours in the 17th over and hit T Natarajan for a six in the 18th to reach his half-century. But he wasn’t able to win it for the men in yellow. The situation was looking gloomy for SRH when they were 69 for 4 in 11 overs with all their big guns dismissed cheaply. It was left to Garg and the 20-year-old Abhishek to rebuild the SRH innings. Abhishek took charge early in the partnership and played some attacking strokes, most notably a swat over deep midwicket for six against Jadeja and a lofted drive against Bravo. They ran well between the wickets too, stealing the extra run and stretching the CSK fielders whenever possible. Garg quickly joined in on the act and punished Curran for 22 runs in the 17th over. With the two youngsters piling on the pressure, the CSK’s shoddy fielding didn’t help. Jadeja and Shardul Thakur dropped regulation catches of Abhishek off Deepak Chahar‘s bowling in the 18th over. Chahar, though, made sure the drops didn’t cost too much with the left-hander’s wicket later in the over.

India vs New Zealand: India Predicted XI for 1st T20I - Samson out of contention, six bowling options in Auckland - cricket
After an overwhelmingly successful home season post the 2019 ODI World Cup where the Indian cricket team beat South Africa, Bangladesh, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Australia in all formats they played in, Virat Kohli and Co. travel to New Zealand for their first overseas assignment of 2020. Considering the nature of series in recent times, the five T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests in New Zealand should qualify as a long tour. India’s tour of New Zealand begins with the first T20I on Friday in Auckland. The series bears special significance in the lead up to the T20 World Cup in October in Australia this year as conditions in New Zealand will be closest to what India would get down under. Ahead of the first India vs New Zealand vs T20I at Auckland, Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant batted together in the nets on Thursday, while Sanju Samson hung around, only to pad up later on. The Kerala batsman didn’t seem to be in contention for the first T20I.Here’s India’s Predicted XI for 1st T20I against New Zealand at Eden Park, AucklandRohit SharmaRohit was rested from India’s last T20I series against Sri Lanka but the opener showed no signs of rustiness when he returned for the ODIs against Australia, scoring a match-winning 119 in the series-decider at Bengaluru. The limited overs vice-captain would look to carry the form in New Zealand. The biggest challenge for Rohit, however, will be to tackle the Kiwi seamers, who will look to target his pads early on in the innings.KL RahulWith Shikhar Dhawan ruled out from the New Zealand series with a shoulder injury, KL Rahul will be back at the top. Rahul has been at the centrestage in the last few weeks for his ability to adjust in any position in the strong batting line-up. He also proved that he is more than handy behind the stumps, prompting Virat Kohli to confirm him as the keeper for the first two T20Is against New Zealand. Also Read | India vs New Zealand: Where Virat Kohli and team travel, Indian sponsors followVirat KohliThe Indian captain has been experimenting with his batting position to accommodate different players. But the kind of impact he has when he comes out to bat at No.3 is second to none. There is no reason why Kohli should tinker with his spot in the side in the series-opening first T20I against New Zealand at Auckland.Shreyas IyerIyer did not have the best of series against Australia but the talented right-hander showed exactly why he is rated so highly by the Indian team management in the closing stages of the 3rd ODI against Bengaluru. Iyer showcased his ability to find ways to score off the short ball which is certain to come in handy against the likes of Southee, Ferguson and Matt Henry in New Zealand.Manish PandeyKL Rahul taking up the keeping duties has opened up a spot in the middle-order for Manish Pandey, who has spent most of 2019 warming the benches. The Karnataka batsman, who has been in prolific form the domestic cricket, would look to start on a positive note in the first T20I against New Zealand in Auckland to cement his spot for the T20 World Cup.Also Read: ‘Better to let the individual decide himself’ - Virat Kohli on what defines leadershipRavindra JadejaRavindra Jadeja might not have set the stage on fire of late but he has put together performances that have been important in India’s wins. His position in the middle-order becomes even more crucial when India want to play with six bowling options, which is the wise thing to do in high-scoring smaller grounds like the Eden Park, Auckland in New Zealand.Washington SundarIn the 19 T20Is that India have played in the last 12 months, Washington Sundar has been a part of 14 of those – which is the joint-most along with vice captain Rohit Sharma and one more than Virat Kohli, speaking the importance of the young off-spinning all-rounder in India’s T20I side. Sundar’s ability to tie the batsman down inside the powerplay is sure to come in handy in Auckland, where batsmen get a free license to hit the big shots.Shardul ThakurVirat Kohli is not a big fan of playing bowlers for their batting prowess or the vice-a-versa but he might be forced to do so in the first T20I against New Zealand on Friday. The Shardul Thakur vs Navdeep Saini debate should go in the latter’s favour hands down if it is based only on bowling skills but Thakur’s big-hitting down the order is an added cushion that cannot be neglected especially when you consider the fact that Sundar’s batting has not blossomed as well as India would have liked to in the international level.Yuzvendra ChahalIndia have been following a rather unusual one-series-one-wrist-spinner theory in the past few months. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been swapping places more often than would have liked to. While the left-arm wrist spinner was preferred over Chahal against Australia, chances are Chahal might get the nod ahead of Kuldeep in Auckland because of the short boundaries in Eden Park.Mohammed ShamiIt wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that Mohammed Shami has surpassed Jasprit Bumrah when it comes to landing precised yorkers in the last few games. Shami got at least 4 Australian batsmen out bowled in the recently-concluded ODI series and India would hope he continues the same in Auckland.Jasprit BumrahBumrah took some time to get to his best after returning from an injury lay-off but India’s premier fast bowler displayed control in the last 2 ODIs against Australia. When all the bowlers were going at a rate of over 6 runs per over, Bumrah’s economy was below 4. If anything that Bumrah would like to improve in New Zealand series, that would be to add more wickets to his name. Read the full article

Latest Updates - CA Mitesh CUTTACK, INDIA: Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard hit attacking half-centuries to power the West Indies to 315 for five in the third and deciding one-day international against India on Sunday.Pooran, who hit 89 off 63 balls, and Pollard, 74 not out, put on 135 runs for the fifth wicket as the West Indies put up a challenging total after being in trouble at 144 for four in Cuttack. The left-right batting pair of Pooran and Pollard, who hit three fours and seven sixes in his 51-ball blitz, combined to rebuild the innings and then took the attack to the opposition bowlers.India paceman Navdeep Saini claimed two wickets after being handed his ODI cap by skipper Virat Kohli who won the toss and elected to bowl in India's bid to clinch a series tied at 1-1.The 27-year-old Saini got his maiden ODI wicket after sending the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer back to the pavilion for 37.Hetmyer's wicket ended a 62-run third-wicket stand with Roston Chase who was bowled by a toe-crushing yorker from Saini for 38 to hurt the West Indies. But Pooran counter attacked and completed his second successive fifty with a six off left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who went wicketless after coming into the game with 99 scalps. He hit 10 fours and three sixes in his knock that lasted 64 balls before falling to Shardul Thakur with a mistimed hit to deep point.Pollard hit two successive boundaries to raise his fifty and pulverised the bowling in the final few overs as West Indies managed 77 runs from the last 30 deliveries.Openers Evin Lewis (21) and Shai Hope (42) put on 57 runs with some sedate batting that lay the foundations for West Indies total.Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant dropped three catches to give Chase (on nought), Hetmyer (on nine) and Pooran (on 52) extended stays at the wicket. IPL 2018 Live, Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Daredevils at Pune, latest update and cricket score: Mishra is holding it tight from the other end and he has been shown some respect from CSK batters as well. Du Plessis slammed one down theground that looked to be heading to the boundary until long on fielder did well to keep it down to one. Five runs off the over. Preview: After suffering an eight-wicket defeat against Mumbai Indians (MI), table-toppers Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be keen to get back to winning ways when they face a resurgent Delhi Daredevils in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Monday. The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai side was hammered by Mumbai at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Saturday. However, the yellow brigade continues to maintain the top spot in the points table. While Chennai has five wins from seven games with 10 points in their kitty, Delhi languishes at the bottom with just a couple of wins from seven games and four points. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni (L) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) skipper Shreyas Iyer. Sportzpics Despite Saturday's defeat, Chennai will be looking to continue their dream run in the league. Most of the CSK batters – Shane Watson, Ambati Rayadu, Dwayne Bravo and skipper Dhoni – are in form. Also, Suresh Raina found his touch with the willow as the southpaw smashed a 47-ball unbeaten 75 against Mumbai, comprising six fours and four sixes. While Rayudu has amassed 329 runs from seven games, averaging 47, Dhoni and Watson have accumulated 235 and 203 runs respectively. The Chennai batters have fired on more than one occasion, guiding CSK home. The yellow brigade has the ability to put a massive total on board or chase any challenging target. In the bowling department, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar have been impressive, leading Chennai's pace attack. But in the previous match Chahar got injured so this might worry the Southern outfit. While Thakur has eight wickets from six games, Chahar and Dwayne Bravo have six and seven wickets respectively from seven games. Also, all-rounder Watson has six wickets with an economy rate of around eight. Leg-spinner Imran Tahir, medium-pacer Dwayne Bravo and leggie Karn Sharma have also made breakthroughs for CSK at crucial moments. On the other hand, Delhi will be high on confidence under new skipper Shreyas Iyer, who led his side to a thumping 55-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders. However, Delhi needs to continue their winning spree to keep themselves in the play-off hunt. The Delhi franchise will hope that Iyer continues to lead from the front as he did with a match-winning unbeaten 93 against Kolkata. Also, other batters like opener Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant and all rounders Glenn Maxwell will need to come out with their best against Chennai. Delhi's bowling came together as a unit against Kolkata and to trouble a star-studded CSK batting line-up, the visitors will have to bowl out of their skin. Overall, in their current form, Chennai will be the favourites in Monday's game at their adopted home ground here. Teams: Chennai Super Kings - MS Dhoni(Captain/Wicket-Keeper), Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf du Plessis, Harbhajan Singh, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar, KM Asif, Kanishk Seth, Lungi Ngidi, Dhruv Shorey, Murali Vijay, Sam Billings, Mark Wood, Kshitiz Sharma, Monu Kumar, Chaitanya Bishnoi, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Shardul Thakur, N Jagadeesan, David Willey Delhi Daredevils - Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Rishabh Pant (Wicket-Keeper), Glenn Maxwell, Gautam Gambhir, Jason Roy, Colin Munro, Mohammed Shami, Amit Mishra, Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tewatia, Vijay Shankar, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Shahbaz Nadeem, Daniel Christian, Jayant Yadav, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Trent Boult, Manjot Kalra, Abhishek Sharma, Sandeep Lamichhane, Naman Ojha, Sayan Ghosh, Liam Plunkett, Junior Dala IPL 2018 LIVE Cricket Score, CSK vs DD at Pune: Chennai Super Kings lose du Plessis, Raina in quick succession The newly-crowned Shreyas Iyer revived Delhi Daredevils' stuttering campaign with a massive win against a formidable Kolkata Knight Riders and now will take on Chennai Super Kings in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Pune on Monday. While Delhi would fight for survival, CSK would be equally keen to get back to winning ways after losing by eight wickets to Mumbai Indians in their adopted home ground on Saturday. The Daredevils, who were struggling with Gautam Gambhir at the helm, found the elusive winning formula in their previous game when they comprehensively defeated KKR by 55 runs. Ricky Ponting-coached Delhi, now at the bottom of the table with just two wins out of seven games, however need to continue their winning spree to keep themselves in the hunt for the play-offs. However, the yellow brigade continues to maintain the top spot in the points table. Despite Saturday’s defeat, Chennai will be looking to continue their dream run in the league.
Most of the Chennai Super Kings batters — Shane Watson, Ambati Rayadu, Dwayne Bravo and skipper Dhoni — are in form.
In the bowling department, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar have been impressive, leading Chennai’s pace attack.
Delhi’s bowling came together as a unit against Kolkata and to trouble a star-studded CSK batting line-up, the visitors will have to bowl out of their skin.
Overall, in their current form, Chennai will be the favourites in Monday’s game at their adopted home ground here.

Nidahas Trophy: Kusal Perera's fifty puts Sri Lanka on top in 175-run chase
Kusal Perera went ballistic against Indian bowlers as Sri Lanka chases 175 to win the first match of the T20 tri-series against India at Colombo on Tuesday.
The hosts suffered a severe damage after they lost Kusal Mendis in the second over to Washington Sundar.
Perera, however, hit top gear and smashed Shardul Thakur for five fours and one six to help his team recover the loss.
The left-handed batsman went on to score 66 runs off 37 balls, before getting stumped off Washington Sundar.
India rode on Shikhar Dhawan's blistering 90 and Manish Pandey's calculated 37 to score 174/5
Dinesh Chandimal won the toss and asked India to bat. The hosts struck early by dismissing the Indian captain Rohit Sharma for a duck in the very first over and then by removing Suresh Raina for just one run in the next over.
However, Dhawan and Pandey batted cautiously and hit boundaries at regular intervals as they kept the scoreboard ticking.
The Indian pair was looking dangerous but Jeevan Mendis broke the 95-run partnership to stem the flow of runs.
Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant provided the final flourish with a 21-run partnership.
