Trade experts explain why no Hindi or Pan-Indian film clashes with Salman Khanâs films at the box office: âHeâs 100% an ORGANIC star; clashing with him can prove SUICIDALâ!
Nov 7, 2023
Salman Khanâs Diwali release Tiger 3 is nearly a week away and the excitement is tremendous. Whatâs interesting is that itâll have a solo release of sorts, as no other Hindi or Pan-India South film is clashing on the same day. In fact, Salman Khan has not faced a clash since 2010. The last time that happened was when his 2009 action super-hit film Wanted was released on the same day as Rani Mukerji-starrer Dil Bole Hadippa.
Dabangg (2010), Ready (2011), Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Dabangg 2 (2012), Jai Ho (2014), Kick (2014), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Sultan (2016), Tubelight (2017), Race 3 (2018), Bharat (2019), Dabangg 3 (2019) and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023) released with no competition. Antim (2021) faced a collision with Satyameva Jayate 2 (2021) but then it didnât feature the superstar in the lead.
Other stars havenât been that fortunate. Shah Rukh Khanâs Dilwale (2015) and Raees (2017) were released alongside Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Kaabil (2017) respectively. SRK is at his best position arguably right now and yet, his next film Dunki will have to share screens with Salaar on Christmas 2023. Aamir Khanâs Laal Singh Chaddha clashed with Akshay Kumarâs Raksha Bandhan last year. Salmanâs last few films have not done well and yet, no one is ready to come on the same Friday as him.
We asked trade experts about this rare phenomenon. Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, âHe has a huge following and is a darling of the masses. The business he has generated over a period of time in mass pockets is phenomenal. Though he has had a rough patch, he's the pied piper of Bollywood.â
Trade analyst Atul Mohan, in agreement, exulted, âSalman is a very big hero of the masses. He has always had such a huge fan following; Shah Rukh Khan ka aisa following ab bana hai. Aamir Khan never had such a mass pull. Salmanâs craze is one of a kind. Hence, filmmakers are wary of clashing their films with him. Itna bada hero hai, kaun takkar lega iske saath?â
Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, remarked, âSalman is the only superstar who people want to see on screen. He has the maximum on-screen superstardom out of all the actors. Itâs a very critical factor. Heâs also not on our social media every time, going to malls, opening ribbons, dancing, etc.â
He continued, âUnfortunately his films have not worked as he hasnât paid much attention to the storytelling, packaging, direction, etc. He has that power that if he gets these things right, then thereâs no stopping him. Thatâs why many are wary of clashing with him as they know that at least in the opening weekend, their film will get butchered.â
Raj Bansal, the owner of Entertainment Paradise cinema hall in Jaipur, explained, âSalman Khan is an action hero. When no one was doing action, he was the only action excelling in this genre. Somewhere, his confidence shook and he also did non-action films like Tubelight (2017), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), etc. Only Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) worked in this regard. But even when his films were gadbad, they still made Rs. 100 crores plus. There was a time when the hit films of Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn did Rs. 100 crores. But Salmanâs flop films do Rs. 100 crores even today! And his hit films have done more than Rs. 300 crores. Itâs thanks to him that the industry realized the true potential of a Hindi film. Hence, clashing with him can prove suicidal.â
He also said, âHeâs 100% an organic star. Even Sunny Deol is.â
Girish Johar added, âIf he moulds himself to the sensibilities that cater to his fans and also provides intelligent content, then sky is the limit. I think Tiger 3 will do well. It ticks all the right boxes.â
Taran Adarsh also said along the same lines, âTiger 3Â being a brand and essaying a role that is much-loved, I am sure itâll have a great run and a huge opener.â

Price: [price_with_discount] (as of [price_update_date] - Details) [ad_1] Hailed as the first pan-Indian female superstar in an era which literally offered actresses crumbs, Sridevi tamed Hindi cinema like no other. Beginning her affair with the camera when she was four, this doe-eyed beauty conquered Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada industries with performances etched in gold. Taking Hindi cinema by storm with Himmatwala in 1983, Sridevi emerged as one of the most iconic screen goddesses of India, playing characters that went on to become cultural touchstones. A supreme artiste who had mastered all the nine rasas, her comedy was peerless, her dances legendary, her histrionics awe-inspiring and her life a study in contrast, electric on screen, strangely reticent off it. Besides reigning as queen bee for the longest spell among Hindi heroines, she also remains the only actress who was No.1 in Tamil and Telugu cinema as well. Such was Sridevi's megastardom that she emerged as the 'hero' at the box office, towering above her male co-actors. Challenging patriarchy in Bollywood like no other, she not only exalted the status of the Hindi film heroine but also empowered a whole generation of audiences. After a hiatus of fifteen years, she shattered the rules again by becoming the only Bollywood diva to make a triumphant comeback in 2012 with the globally acclaimed English Vinglish. If her life played out forever in the limelight, so did her sudden demise in 2018. Charting five decades of her larger-than-life magic, this book celebrates both the phenomenon and the person Sridevi was. This is her journey from child star to one of our greatest movie luminaries who forever changed the narrative of Indian cinema. The Perfect Samosa: A Golden Delight in Every Bite
Few snacks evoke the love, nostalgia, and pure joy that a hot, crispy samosa can bring. This triangular pastry, filled with a savory potato-based filling, has carved a niche for itself in the world of street food and cafĂ© culture alike. Whether youâre munching on it with a cup of chai on a rainy day or sharing it as an appetizer at a gathering, samosas have an undeniable charm that unites food lovers worldwide.
A Brief History of the Samosa
The origin of the samosa dates back several centuries and crosses various cultural boundaries. Itâs believed that the samosa traveled from the Middle East to India via traders and merchants during the medieval period. Originally known as "sambusak" in Persia, it was a small, meat-filled pastry. As it traveled to India, it adapted to local flavors and ingredients, ultimately transforming into the spiced potato-filled delicacy we know today. Now, itâs found in various forms across South Asia and beyond, making it an international snack superstar.
Ingredients and Filling: The Heart of a Samosa
While the outer shell of the samosa, made from a simple dough of flour and water, plays a crucial role in its crunchy texture, the filling is what truly makes a samosa unforgettable. The most traditional filling is a mix of potatoes, green peas, and spices. Potatoes are boiled and mashed with aromatic spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala. Fresh ginger, green chilies, and chopped cilantro are added for a touch of heat and freshness, while green peas offer a sweet contrast to the spice.
Over time, innovative fillings have emerged. Popular alternatives include:
Paneer Samosa: With soft Indian cottage cheese cubes.
Keema Samosa: Spiced ground meat, usually lamb or chicken.
Cheese and Corn Samosa: A gooey, cheesy option thatâs popular among kids.
Sweet Samosa: Filled with coconut, sugar, and nuts, often served during festivals.
How to Make the Perfect Samosa
Making samosas from scratch can be a rewarding experience, though it requires a bit of patience. Hereâs a basic guide to creating this crispy treat:
Prepare the Dough: Mix all-purpose flour with a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of oil or ghee. Gradually add water to form a stiff dough, knead it well, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
Prepare the Filling: In a pan, sauté cumin seeds in oil, then add boiled and mashed potatoes, green peas, ginger, green chilies, and spices. Mix everything well, adjust the seasoning, and let it cool.
Assemble the Samosa: Divide the dough into small balls, roll each ball into an oval shape, and cut it in half. Form a cone with each half, fill it with the spiced potato mixture, and seal the edges with a little water.
Fry to Perfection: Deep-fry the samosas on medium heat until golden brown. This slow frying ensures that the crust is crispy and not greasy.
Why We Love Samosas: Versatile, Shareable, and Delicious
What makes the samosa such a beloved snack is its versatility. Samosas can be served as a snack, an appetizer, or even as part of a main meal. They are perfect for any occasionâbe it a festive gathering, a picnic, or just a cozy evening at home. Plus, samosas are easily customizable. Vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters can all find a version that suits their preferences.
Samosas also have a unique, shareable quality. A plate of samosas with chutneys on the side (such as mint chutney or tamarind chutney) is an invitation to gather, talk, and enjoy. This small but mighty snack brings people together, uniting them with the promise of a satisfying, flavor-packed bite.
Where to Find the Best Samosa
In India, samosas are available at almost every corner, from street vendors to upscale restaurants. Internationally, you can find samosas at Indian restaurants, food trucks, and even supermarkets. Some places give their own twist to the classic, using regional ingredients or fusion flavors like taco-inspired fillings, pizza samosas, or even chocolate samosas!
Samosas Around the World
Interestingly, samosas have inspired similar snacks globally. You can find:
Sambusas in East Africa, especially in Ethiopia and Somalia.
Pastelitos in Latin America.
Empanadas in Spain and Latin American countries.
Each has its own unique twist, but they all share a similar concept: a delicious, stuffed pastry thatâs perfect for snacking.
In Conclusion: A Classic Worth Savoring
The samosa, in all its crispy, savory goodness, is more than just a snackâitâs a symbol of joy, shared experiences, and culinary tradition. Whether youâre a fan of the classic potato filling or enjoy more experimental versions, thereâs no denying the timeless appeal of this golden, stuffed delight. So, next time you crave a satisfying snack, grab a samosa, dip it in some tangy chutney, and savor the taste of a snack thatâs traveled through time and across borders to bring us happiness, one bite at a time.

There was a box office change towards the end of 2000-2010 decade where digital prints allowed far wider releases on day one and as this process got bigger and bigger it meant the genre which was the forte of Shahrukh Khan was never going to get record numbers. But through the 2010-2020 decade the numbers coming with films which were not action films were still huge.
Pathaan had a guest role for Salman Khan and the public response has to seen to be believed and this should be enough for the naysayers who have appreaed due to his last few films not doing as well as expected. Stardom does not dissapear with a few films failing at the box office, just like it does not come overnight and takes many films to establish.
The Hindi film industry is probably the most secular place there is in India but the fact that the biggest stars of India over the last two decades are Muslim has not sat well in some quarters of the country and the media over the last few years. In fact the third biggest also with Aamir Khan though this is arguable with Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar in the fold as well. The cinema going audience does not care one bit about religion and within the industry nobody notices the religion baring when things get bought up from the outside. There are these non secular voices also within the industry but the way the industry has functioned for decades these people soon become outcasts and work will just dry up.
The last few years has seen this Pan India thing pop up so you have regional stars names being put up as the biggest superstars of the country laughable as it may seem. There are no doubt some great directors in the Southern industries so it is possible their films can do well in the Hindi belts but that hardly means the actors in these films become stars and superstardom is far away except for the regional one which they probably have already..
India has seen seven stars achieve megastardom and two of them are Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan. The others being Dilip Kumar, Rajendra Kumar, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. There is not one name in sight from regional film industries and yet today you see names like Prabhas, Yash, Allu Arjun and others put up with there with two superstars who are not only the biggest superstars of the day but among the biggest ever.
This is not to say that someone from the regional industry cannot become a huge superstar tomorrow because if the public takes to you then anything can happen but to reach the level of above names will take some doing not only for the regional stars but even for Hindi filmstars.
The simple reason why the the big superstars have come from the Hindi film industry is because the language has a wider reach. If other languages had a reach as wide as Hindi then maybe it would be a different story. Yes movies can be dubbed but that is the film reaching out and not the actor. Â
Basically the negativity towards the Hindi film industry has led to many claims as to which is the biggest film industry and who are the biggest stars and when the national media is like this you get the regional one badmouthing Hindi cinema as and pushing their own which is natural. But at the end of the day nothing much has changed despite the claims as the HINDI film industry easily remains the biggest film industry in India as content may go wrong but that does not change the reach.
As for the stars, Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan remain the biggest stars in India and that does not look like changing for sometime yet even though the starpower may not be as big as it was other points in their careers
