The sun was low in the sky, sinking towards the horizon like a lover slowly leaning in to place a gentle kiss on the blue water that went on for miles and miles. The sea was so calm it was almost mirror-like, the last golden rays of the sun catching the small peaks of the waves so that they sparkled and glittered like millions of stars that stretched as far as the eye could see. The sound of the water lapping against the harbour wall was so quiet that it was barely audible above the sound of the traditional Greek music and joyous chatter in the background, accompanied every so often by the soft groan and creak of the small fishing boats docked nearby.

It was a balmy evening, the stone and the earth still hot from the baking heat earlier that day but every so often there’d be a sigh of a breeze coming in off the sea that would caress the flame of the candles on the tables for no more than a moment before they were still once more. It was picture perfect, the kind of scene they show in movies or write about in books, but Colton wasn’t looking at any of it. His eyes were fixed on the jewellery that adorned the left hand of the woman sitting opposite him, absorbed in the way the setting sun glanced across the facets of the diamonds and gave birth to entire galaxies; absorbed in what those rings represented, so much that his right hand had come across to absentmindedly play with the palladium ring that he wore on his own left hand.

The breeze snaked through the pergola once more and Colton’s eyes moved to where it whispered against his new wife’s hair, shining like glossy dark chocolate. The setting sun illuminated her eyes, revealing the usually hidden flecks of amber among rich earth and made her deep olive skin glow. Cassandra Constantinou had always been beautiful to him, but Cassandra Parayko was simply celestial.

“It’s rude to stare.”

Colton’s laugh was soft on the exhale of his breath as he was pulled out of his thoughts by Cassie’s gentle teasing. He linked their fingers together on top of the table while he surveyed her with an easy grin.

“I get staring privileges now.”

“Is that right?” she mused. “I don’t remember that being in our wedding vows.”

“Really?” Colton replied with a smirk. “It was right after the part where I promised to love you until the day I die.”

“Must have missed that,” Cassie hummed, a gentle smile playing on her lips. “Was too busy thinking about how handsome you looked.” Cassandra’s smile sparked into a grin at the flush that graced Colton’s cheeks. “Oh come on now, don’t get all shy.”

“It’s hard not to when you say things like that and look the way you do.”

“And how do I look?” she asked after a moment’s pause while she surveyed him, bringing her glass of red wine to her lips with a sparkle in her eyes.

“Like the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,” Colton replied simply. “Like I don’t know what I did to get so lucky. Like I thank whoever is up there every single day that you bought that house next door to mine.”

“Colt…”

Colton brought Cassandra’s hand to his lips, placing a gentle kiss on her knuckles.

“You’re my favourite person, Cass and I’m so, so thankful to be here with you, sharing your heritage with you, learning more about who you are every single day. It’s a privilege and I’m… I’m truly honoured that you picked me to spend your life with.”

Cassie swallowed thickly to keep the tears barely being contained behind her lashes at bay before leaning across the table to press a sweet and chaste kiss to her husband’s lips.

“There’s no-one else I want, Colt. You’re all the wonderful things in my life and I’m so glad that I bought that house too.” Her smile was warm as she stroked along the scruff at his jaw, her eyes locked onto his with nothing but love and sincerity harboured there. “You’ve given me so much… joy, god, pure and real joy. I moved to St Louis feeling a little bit lost and I didn’t know how it was all gonna go, y’know?”

Colton nodded as he placed his large hand on top of hers.

“And then I met you and everything just fell into place,” Cassie finished. “It all felt so easy and good and right.”

“You’re home for me, Cass. I hope you know that,” Colton said softly.

“I do,” she replied. “You show me every day.”

Colton kissed her then, slow and sure while his thumb swept across her cheek and for that brief moment they were no longer sat on a covered terrace, in a taverna on the island of Paros. It was just the two of them with the setting sun and the bright blue ocean.

“Σ’αγαπώ” he whispered against her lips, smiling as he felt the corners of her mouth tug upwards.

“I love you too, Colton,” she murmured as she kissed him back. “More than you’ll ever know.”

Every once in a while, after a particularly exhausting meeting with the board, Pepper likes to take a nice long bubble bath—a glass of Carménère in her hand, the scent of spruce needle filling her nostrils and Ella Fitzgerald’s smooth voice lulling her slowly into relaxation.

Tony knows this. But Tony also forgets.

“Miss Potts, Sir is calling with an emergency,” J.A.R.V.I.S. informs her in a low tone, careful not to startle her.

“Is it a real emergency?”

“I’m afraid it’s not, Miss.”

She hums, indicating to let him through. Because it’s Tony, and no matter what triviality he has come across now, she won’t ignore him. Not since the palladium poisoning incident.

“Pep!” Tony sounds irritated, not enough to make her worry though. “Did you know that according to US Weekly, we’re married?”

Ah. She takes a sip of her wine, savoring the strong aroma, and closes her eyes once again. “According to last week’s issue we’re also in a three-way relationship with Dr. Banner,” she finally points out. 

“Wait, really? Well, I mean, that sounds quite—”

“Tony, no.”

“Right. Not tapping that. Got it.”

The corners of her mouth twitch at that, a quiet smile spreading on her lips. Good thing Tony can’t see her now—he would never let her live that down. Then, she adds, “And according to the issue before that, I was cheating on you with Steve when we went to the MOMA together.”

There’s a clang—most probably one of Tony’s tools falling on the floor—followed by a hushed curse she almost misses. “He’s Steve now? Not Captain Rogers?”

“Tony, we meet each other for coffee every now and then, of course he’s Steve now.”

“Ah. Well, nothing to worry then, with all his muscly glory he’s no competition for me and my charm,” Tony jokes cheerfully. Anyone else might laugh at that, but Pepper hears the little wobble in his voice, the uncertainty carefully hidden behind his quips and cheesy one-liners.

“Please, he likes Jasper Johns. You know I can’t date anyone who likes Johns unironically.”

Tony’s chuckle makes her smile fondly. He may act all confident, but she knows him better than anyone by now—apart from James. The reassurance was something he needed. 

“Why were you reading the US weekly anyway?” she asks after some seconds pass.

“It was in my workshop.”

“Weren’t you working on a way to get rid from the shrapnel?”

“Yes. But the magazine was in my workshop, Pep,” he emphasizes, as if it would make more sense now. And for Tony it probably does. She doesn’t say anything to that—she doesn’t need to. Tony talks, numbers and words even she hasn’t heard of before, Ella sings, and the warm water wraps her in a blanket of contentment, her surroundings blurring into distant sound, until–

“So, about that marrying part…”

“No,” Pepper interrupts him softly before he can talk any further.

“No?”

“No,” she confirms.

“Alright, no marriage either. Got it.” Pepper is glad he doesn’t seem disappointed or any of the sorts.

“Will that be all, Mister Stark?”

She can hear the grin in Tony’s voice when he answers, “That will be all, Miss Potts.”

The connection breaks off, leaving Pepper alone with her thoughts. She tries to close her eyes and relax again, but her gaze wanders to her hands, to the rough lines and long fingers—and she imagines. A wedding band on the left ring finger. A house on the lake. A little girl playing outside.

And she smiles.

Maybe, one day. Not yet, though. There’s too much going on at the moment. She’s recovering from having Extremis taken out of her, Tony is searching for a way to get safely rid of the arc reactor, and the world needs preparing for something bigger to come.

Okay so I just got back from writing this shitty story but this is for @besosdecnco's writing challenge and it was like a "sequel" of some sort or maybe a different interpretation of the story. It was super sad. The way this bitch wrote her piece is fucking impecable. It was raw and emotional that's why it gave me a big inspo to write a different version of somesort.

Here it is, hope y'all enjoy.

Forever. It's the word that brings life to a thing. It brings sorrow to a person. It brings agony to an indicted criminal. But when it comes to love, it's the most precious word that you would want to hear. Sometimes, it was said in an understatement because we never know what's going to happen. But often it's an overstatement. Stating facts, or lies rather, that a person can stay on someone's side forever. And in this world full of lie, would you be able to trust this word? For her case, the answer is clearly a no. And for his case, it's an overstatement.

"We will be forever." His words are soft and vibrant. The morning makes his voice so sexy and so manly. She thinks it was the most beautiful music you can hear. As the lights in the room shoot inside the room, his eyes glimmer with joy and excitement. Another day to face with his love. His greatest love. As he slide his arms on her jawline, he carefully pressed his red lucious lips on hers, biting his lips a little that shoot million of volts on her spine. A sensation she always want to feel. Like a drugs. She getting high on it. Suddenly, a buzz of an annoying piece of technology rung and the sound is horrendous. It's a new day for both of them but they must face it together.

"Chris, you're home!" As he put his bag on the floor, he run to her finding her smiling back at him while chopping some colorful vegetables on the kitchen counter. She noticed that his usual happy and bright man, is tired but the guy still managed to hugged her one and only love. It's making her happy. Her heart is jumping up and down like crazy, a sensation that never goes out since the first day she met him in a concert in her hometown. Things get heated out as he plant his lips on her jawline, nibbling every bit of her skin, her hands grasping his hard and bulging biceps through the leather jacket, his eyes full of lust and her eyes full of love. His pants and every squeeze into her back part makes her squirm a little and it sends deep-voiced laugh from him. He decided to sweep all the stuff on the kitchen table, plates and bowl falling on the floor broken but he doesn't care. He lift her on the countertop and things went from sweet to spicy.

"I'm leaving for a couple of months for the tour, I hope you don't mind." Why would she mind? It's his dream to tour around the world and it's what she signed up for. As they give their sweet nothings and cute little chitchats on the airport, she feels a little pinch on her heart: a feeling everytime he goes away for rehersals or hang out with her band mates that. She take away or shook the feeling. It's like a part of her now. But on the other hand, he knows his mn will be living the best of life. A life that a simple girl can't give. A life that he deserved. Well, the boy is talented enough to win some shit. But you can't take away the feeling of being left. It's hard and it hurts you. She just said to herself that he's coming back. Wiping the tears that rolled down her cheeks, she received a what it seems like a final kiss to give her reassurance that he's coming back.

"Would you do the honor of becoming Mrs. Christopher Velez?" A question which she waited for a long time. And it was worth it. She bobbed her head up and down to signal him that it's a yes, because words can't even describe the happiness she's feeling. And as per usual, she's crying, but this time, it was a genuine happiness. He immediately tool the ring out of the red velvet box and shoot it into her long almost-white finger. The cold palladium ring is sending her to other dimension, a dimension where happiness is the only thing that exist and it made her dizzy for quite a bit. He got up and he immediately cupped her face and kiss the life out of her like he never did before. It was the sweeteat moment of her like, his likewise. It was a successful wedding proposal and he thought it's going sideways but it's not. A cheer was heared from around them: their family and friends, and the his band mates, supporting him and her all the way. This is the start of fulfillment of his promises.

"I thought you'll love me forever." As the tears run down her cheek, not from a happy moment but from a sorrow. His love fades. As the time goes by, every time he is not with her, every time he looks at someone beautiful, every time he forgets that he has someone home, his love for her fade little by little until it was gone. Gone in the wind. Now she alone in the place where she used to call a home, it's now an empty space: without him. Without the light and warmth of his embrace, the deep voice reverberating through the walls, the sound of cackling whenever they sit in the living room couch and playing like kids, the love is already gone. Now she believes that all promises are not made to be fulfilled or upheld forever but it was a lie made by someone who is infatuated, a word that gives you comfort but will slice your throat if it had a chance. She should've never believed in him. She thinks fool of herself.

"I'm sorry but this is the end." Unfotunately for her, he still loves him. And it hurts him more than a specimen being played by a mad scientist.  She blurted the words she used to say to him and him to her but only greeted by deafening silence. She never thought silence could be that loud. She pleaded to say the words she want to hear, just to ease the sharp pain striking through her heart but his love was just an illusion. A perfect illusion.

The regrets she felt: by the time they met, the first time they held hands, the first time they kissed. She regrets it all. All of it. Now she's holding the paper that will break the sacrament of their marriage, picking up the pen and putting her signature on it, she thought the tears have already dried but she was wrong. She still loves him and the tears that used to be beacuse of happiness is now replaced by grief. She took a one last look at him and smiled while wiping her own tears, walked straight out of the door of a corner of a law firm. This is the end. He looked at her and his big eyes shed a tear. There were only three other people attending the wedding. Seiji, since Namie didn’t want him to miss his sisters’ wedding, and the twins, who claim, they came there for cake. After the ceremony they ate on the rooftop of the building, where they spent the rest of the day.
