It's very important that you know that the woman who lived here I believe from when it was built until it was sold last year was so extra and I, as someone who went to college a two minute walk from this house, was obsessed with her. Her name is Michele Riggi, at the most recent count I can find she owns 40 dogs (when I had previously looked it up about 5 years ago it was 36 and she SAID she was done!). The ~24 smallest get to sleep in her room every night. Every holiday the Palazzo Riggi was decorated so ridiculously. There was like a 15 foot tall nutcracker that just lived at the corner of the estate, standing guard all December. But Halloween was the best, there was a GIANT banner on the front of the house with a picture of one of her dogs dressed as a pumpkin that said "Happy Howl-o-ween!" and on the night itself she threw a lavish party and she would dress as Cinderella and sit in a carriage out front flanked by footmen and hand out full sized candy bars, some (a dozen?) of which had $100 bills hidden inside, to the giant line of locals and college students that would show up. I found an interview with her where she said she'd been approached about having a reality TV show and she turned it down because she thought it was just another excuse for people to make fun of her for living her dream. Truly going to school right next to this just had me obsessed. What a bizarre character.
I thought this was a neighborhood, and then realized it’s one giant house. It’s in Saratoga Springs, New York, listed for $17.9M, and if you have that kind of money, you’d better like over-the-top ornate homes, b/c this one is off the chain.
I don’t know why some rich people think that crazy-ornate decor signifies wealth & taste, but it doesn’t always. So, here’s the grand entrance, which actually is the plainest part of the house.
Check out the ceiling and walls.
The sitting room doesn’t look like it gets too much sitting. The house is so huge, why would you hang out in here? I don’t know, it just seems cold.
Here we have the breakfast room, which is also the everyday dining area for the kitchen.
The kitchen and pantry.
And, this is the formal dining room.
Notice the murals on the 2nd fl. landing.
I guess this is the 2nd fl. kitchen. What a stark contrast to the rest of the house.
Look at the dog’s bed in the main bdm. I think there’s also a cat, b/c there’re stairs on the other side of the room by the window, plus what looks like a cat bed on the lower left.
M’lady’s desk? Makeup table?
The main bdm’s en suite bath.
Another bd and bath. Look at the sink bowls.
Here we have a bar with a bowling alley.
And, a game room. Is that round thing a game or for the cat?
Here goes another bd & bath.
A study?
The home cinema.
There are more baths than bdms in the home.
The home gym and another bath.
And, here’s a nice tropical room with a water feature.
The pool. Is it a pool? There’s no ladder, slide, diving board, or anything.
This is a pool house or something. It’s just a living room.
To have such beautiful grounds in New York seems crazy, b/c the winters are long, cold, and snowy. Especially upstate.
Is this a fancy she shed?
Who the hell cleans this place? There has to be an army of staff just to dust.
