When I was young, I would always look at my mom as my worst enemy. Because she always gets mad at me. Of course, there's a reason for it and in those cases for sure I am the one who's at fault most of the time. But I never understood it before. Maybe at some point I thought that we exists to bring out the worst from each other.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Mom so much. Even when we argue before, I love her still because she's my mom.
So fast forward to this day where I can call myself a grown up (lol), I realized that my worst enemy before, is now turning to be my best friend and my shoulder to cry on. You know, growing up, I like to keep things to myself. I was never trained to speak what I truly feel. Maybe I got it from Mama. Because she likes keeping things to herself. You can just have a portion of her. Just a tip of an iceberg.
Last Sunday I went home. I was in so much pain emotionally. I feel like my heart is being ripped out. I went inside my room. I am crying so much when I heard a knock on my door. It's Mama. When I open it, she saw my eyes and asked me if I am crying. Then I started to cry even more. I cried on her shoulder then she asked me why am I crying. I just shook my head. Then she gets so frustrated and asked me again. I kept crying then I told her what happened. She didn't asked me to go on to details, but I know she understands me. She told me, not to give my everything to anyone. That I always have to keep something for myself. And that the only constant thing in this world is change. That I should know how to adapt and be flexible. That what matters most is Jesus. And that I shouldn't be crying over that 'thing'.
I knew my Mom will never take sides. Or even if she does, you won't know it. Yep, that's her. And last Sunday, that's what happened. She made me realized that I am also at fault to what had happened to me. sigh
Then yesterday, Monday, I didn't go to work. I took a leave and just stayed inside my room for the whole morning. I just sleep and watched videos. And at lunch time, she barged in my room and told me that she prepared Pako Salad which is a fave. She didn't asked me why I didn't go to work. It is because she knows the reason. And I am thankful for it. And I appreciate it.
That's why I can now say, that I am really grateful that I have my Mama. That if all else fails, I know I have her.

More fun in the Philippines! Just had an amazing time at Lake Pandin, and I've got to say it's worth checking out. We took a bamboo raft across the lake, which was an experience in itself. The view from the middle of the lake was incredible. Plus, we had lunch right there on the raft! They served us grilled tilapia, pako salad from the mountains, shrimps in coconut milk, and halo-halo for dessert. It was some seriously good local cuisine. There's more to do at Lake Pandin than just eating and rafting, though. You can go for a swim in the lake's crystal-clear waters, or if you're up for a bit of an adventure, hike over to its twin, Lake Yambo. If you're the camping type, you can even pitch a tent for the night. And let's not forget about the fishing - the lake is full of freshwater shrimps, tilapia, and catfish. Getting to Lake Pandin was easier than I expected. It's about a two-hour ride from Manila to San Pablo. Since I’ve recovered a clean calendar in time for the really long break, I’ve gotten a list of really, really good roadtrip+foodtrip invites which include the following: -Boracay -Bicol x Calaguas x Freedive x Bike (HUHUHUHUHUHU. You will be mine soon!!!) -Baguio x La Union x Atok -Tokyo, Japan Sagad FOMO ko basta travel na solid ang ganaps. As my basher dad tells me: Alis ka ng alis. Napakalayas mo talaga. Kung maka-alis, akala mo ‘di na babalik. Paano mga aso mo? LOLOLLOLL. Been eyeing Negros, Camiguin and Zamboanga on solo trip, too, however, dad has been low-key missing Holy Week visits to ina’s sleepy hometown. I asked him if sure ba siyang gusto niya ba talagang umuwi or bored lang siya or wala ba siyang gala. LOL. Sabi naman niya, all of the above. Sobrang gusto ko talagang mapag-isa or with a group na outside my past months’ routine because I really need to recharge because Taurus szn on triple steroids is coming soon. May dagdag na namang plot twist na sana naman, last na. Saka I easily get bored talaga kaya para bumalik ‘yung pake ko sa daily grind, I need to pull damong ligaw self out of my usual, inescapable scene. And sooooo, saan ba tayo napunta this really long Holy Week break? Yes, sabi ko, pagkatapos ng burial ng lola ko, ako naman. Pero, I also can’t just leave my dad and my fave tita na ere. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Even boomers and Gen X sila, ‘di sila gaslighters and ‘di rin sila feeling pa-victim which I like. Inaasar pa nga ako ng dad ko na sana all, maraming invites. HAHAHAHAHA. Sabi ko sa kanya, keep up. LOL. Pero ending, as an empath (FUCK) and sabi ko naman, marami pang long weekends pero ‘di na muli a long weekend like this, samahan ko na siya umuwi. Apaka basic ng Laguna. Ugh. South na naman!!! WHYYYYY? But, as I came home this time around with dad to ina’s sleepy hometown. Why not nga ba, Laguna? Why not? Actually, the past years ko lang din narealize that Laguna is underrated. Madali puntahan if you’re near SLEX tapos recently, ‘di na lang buko pie, Pansol saka Pagsanjan Falls ‘yung puwede mong i-look forward, too. Also, since for a time, naging Baler ang fave place ko, sobrang similar din silang 2 places tapos less traffic and iwas Sierra Madre zigag pa. May OK na peanut butter na homemade, pako salad, decent food, surf spots in the nearby Real, may spelunking sa Cavinti, camp out sa Caliraya, hiking sa big ass waterfalls na nilampasan pa Mother Falls ng Baler. Also, may spelunking (Cavinti), art scene (Paete/San Pablo),local fashion scene (Lumban/Liliw na puwede tumapat sa Vinta Gallery fashion) and syempreee, biking sa kung anong trip mong ride –pabebe sa gedli ng bundok hanggang Elbi; or yung basagan ng tuhod at pagka-broken inside na shit naman sa life sa ahon sa Caliraya hanggang Pililia. Dad tried pa ‘yung Pingas at nag-compare notes pa sa rides ni IanHow and company. LOLOLOL. All these travel check na check checklist na ‘to na naggawa na namin mostly, Laguna is where my Aries dad’s heart is. Dito siya most alive and at home. When we go biking, dami niyang kwento at hugot sa life. Andito rin first love niya before mom na balo na. HAHAHAHAHA. Sabi ko nga, ituloy na niya ‘yun kasi confident naman akong si mom pa rin ang no. 1 niya kahit magkabalikan sila nung babaeng ‘yun. Or, baka naman, it’s also the universe’s sign na meant to be talaga sila. Syempre, as gaguhan na as old as time, dad said naman na: Takot siya sa mom ko kasi dun pinaka selos ‘yun. HAHAHAHAH. Saka, ayaw na raw niya mag-alaga ng matanda. Dun daw siya sa bente uno para tuloy-tuloy ang happ vibes. Mhie, I kennat. LOL. Also, dad’s chapter is something na for him to really face and process. Nasa sidelines lang ako, ready to be with him and let him go as well. Nagkataon kasi na birthday week niya nga ito so may hall pass na naman si gago. Hahahahahaha. LOL. So far, this weekend has been a good one. Bagal signal, bagal oras, non-stop kain so nabawi na lahat ng no meal or 1x/day meals ko sa Manila, and sobrang nakaka-recalibrate talaga especially come Tuesday onward. Mhie, lasog na ako, iniisip ko pa lang, but, fightttt tayo! Excited na rin ako bumalik sa BGC (eewwww) kasi I will be getting back to one thing na pang-release ko ng frustrations ko and also, my pang-sedate para ‘pag sabak ko sa mga ganaps, mas kalmado na ako. My dad’s birthday suprise 01 is a heartfelt one. Chunchaba mode kasi kami nung fave tita ko na ka-tag team namin sa lola ko na kunwari nasa roadtrip na sila. Sabi ni dad: Ay, wala talaga sila? Me: Yes. Ano? Hintayin ka nila? Importante ka? Hahahaha. Sabi ni dad: Okaaaayyy. Then si fave tita ko naman, niloko ko na ‘di kami uuwi. Hahahaha. Na-sad daw siya kasi sanay siyang abala sa Holy Week lalo bday ni dad. LOL. Sabi ko, tita, Nuvali x Tags x Bats kami. Syempre, since ‘di naman ako sanay mag-sinungaling talaga, buking agad me. :D Eto yata ang bad side ‘pag masyado kang unfiltered. Hassle mag-roll out ng surprise and need ng may accomplice. So, binigla ko na lang si fave tita na nasa Bay na kami. Hahahaha. Stress siya kasi wala siyang handa. Sinadya ko talaga para ‘di na siya mag-abala at para makarest din. Napaka chizmozo neto pero ‘di naman siya nagbabasa ng phone ko kaya nastress ako na alam niya na sino invited. Magaling kasi siya mag-memorize. Sabi niya, alam ko na saan tayo punta. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Naiiyak na ako sa galit kasi invasion of privacy saka ang dami kong ni-adjust para sa attendance check nung small party niya as an introvert dad. Sabi niya, ewan daw ba niya bakit nga niya ni-open. Ensaladang itlog na maalat can be as simple as itlog na maalat or salted egg mixed with sliced tomatoes. Throw in any number of ingredients to add dimension to this simple yet satisfying salad. Some add pako or vegetable fern, in the Visayas and Mindanao lato or seaweed are tossed in while enjoying sinugbang isda or inihaw na isda. Others add olive oil, capers… the list goes on! Saturday errands day~
Today, we spent the morning doing our weekly grocery shopping. We then went home and I:
Gave the cats a bath
Cleaned the CR
Disinfected the groceries
Fed the cats and groomed them
Cooked lunch

I made some Korean "samgyup" style chicken, pako salad with salted egg and my signature sauce and gochuijang shirataki rice. Di ko naubos lol.
After that, I took a bath and did some branding kit practice.

I've been trying out my skills in terms of creating logos and also, creating a complete branding kit guideline. I figured this is hands-on study, plus I can add it to my portfolio.

FOOD TRIP PART 1
I’ve been to Gubat in Baler, Aurora (see blog post here) with my closest friends last 2019 and we really enjoyed their food and service. Now, craving for Gubat will be easier because apparently, a QC branch is now open for public.
Gubat QC is from the same people behind Kusina Luntian of Baler. It is a hidden restaurant inside the Diliman Bonsai Society with interiors made from upcycled materials that can accommodate 20-30 people. The open-air restaurant is not noticeable at a first glance — it is surrounded by plants and bonsais, and the door made of bamboo has a small sign to welcome its visitors. Gubat also promotes zero waste by going back to basic, as each order is served on banana leaves, eating using your hands without utensils and drinking straight from the glass without using a straw.
When you receive your food, you’ll have it served up on banana leaves with no utensils. That’s right, kamayan rules here. Their dishes also offer pako salad (complete with tomato and salted egg) as a side to any meal. We ordered Lechong Kawali and Shrimp Gambas and Calamansi Juice for drinks. 
From grilled pork, we went to grilled seafood! (Yup, our cravings can really be THAT spontaneous. Mana samin? Haha.) Went for our last meal in Dampa in Antipolo, and we had Grilled Hito, Siningang na ulo ng Salmon, Kinilaw na Tuna, and Baked Tahong. 
Yup, welcome to my Babuyan era.

Good morning! So I made me and my brother some healthy breakfast today. I made a salad last time and he got to taste it. So yesterday he requested that I made him one too when I make one for myself. He also liked the patties I made the other day and asked if I could make some more pero I told him there’s no more meat na so I’m just gonna make him ham sandwich later for merienda. Just me making all these food is kind of making me and my brother close (?) somehow. Cos we barely have interactions in the house and it makes me happy about him asking me to make him food. It’s like his subtle way of saying hey sis ur doing great. And ‘di niya directly sinasabi but I know he likes my food. Hahaha lol. And that also means I’m getting better at cooking and making meals.
Although alam mo yun, this is my own grocery stash. Separate from what my mom buys kasi I don’t want to ask her to buy and isama na niya sa family grocery namin yung akin dahil ako naman yung gumagamit nung ingredients and kumakaen but sharing is caring lol. And di naman ako selfish. Hahaha. I make some for them too not just for myself. So ayun might do grocery shopping at the end of the week kasi I’m starting to run out na of ingredients. Search narin ako recipes kung ano pa pwede lutuin for breakfast like mga frittatas and omelettes ganon or some fried rice.
Feeling ko kaya din lately walang say nanay ko sakin as in nagugulat ako kasi ‘di ako sanay na hindi niya ako nasesermonan is because I’m doing these things. Like I set an alarm, wake up early, fix my bed as soon as I wake up, make my own breakfast, I wash the dishes ganon. Dati kasi pag weekends tas nasa house ako may feeling na kahit namiss ko sila and yung house parang sana shet di nalang ako umuwi. May ganon. Hahaha. Pero sabagay dati kasi gigising ako mga 9 o 10 tas minsan ‘di pako agad kakaen and dun siya naiinis. Late ka na nga gumising tapos hindi ka pa magbe-breakfast tas mag kukuda na siya about ulcer ganon. Hahaha. Basta yun. Saya lang din. :-)

Baler food crawl!
Charlie does is a groovy surfing fashion boutique combined with a book exchange (you're welcome to chill out and read), a hip gallery, coffee counter and vegetarian restaurant. I would recommend the fresh vegetable omelette, rice crispy cereals, and their Mushroom Tapa and egg (better than it sounds). Probably one of the great foodie finds we had is Kusina Luntian, a simple nipa restaurant where you can feast on Filipino staples like liempo, adobo, and Pako Salad served in a coconut shell. The laid-back vibe and honest-to-goodness food they offer is probably an experience every one should experience. Their menu is written on a surfboard, they use charcoal to cook, and the seats and tables are made of bamboo. Everything was rustic. To make the experience complete, they serve the food in banana leaves and you have to eat it with your hands, no spoon and fork. Rapsa!
For dinner, we ate at Yellow Fin Bar and Grill, your typical restaurant that most locals recommend to visiting travelers. Perfect way to start the night — feast on inihaw dishes!
