Atla fics can be so damn funny because all the cultural info is coming from Google searches and many authors aren't really Asians so I can find comedy gold gems like a piece of work from Wan Shi Tong's library written by someone with a European name but the literary form is referred to with a Persian/Urdu name instead of this form's already existing translation for either the author's or characters' languages
#I've also come across foods mix ups. concept mix ups. religious mic ups whete there shouldn't#also Himalayan pink salt comes from Punjab. not the higher Himalayan mountains#being an asian critic for famfics of Asian media is funny#atla#atla fic#im not complaining but like. it's funny when you know something and it comes up hilariously inaccurately used#also atla is a dtramge world . it's a combination of cultures spread out way differently from jow they r in real world#and these silly inaccuracies can be made to make sense somehow#i don't think there is any Persian or Pakistani culture in atla#the only things Persian was the library#not even the desert#which was more Arab/Sahara#anf i hate the rasicm and stupidity in desert episodes so

like its all fun and games as a kid until you go and get curious about characters that are like you in your interest and then you go and (rummages for an example) in superhero comics there's a total of two specifically pakistani women who are major characters and they're ms marvel and faiza hussain from a comic in 2008 that i learned about while writing this fucking post
#txt#and when you look at the dc wiki and the Only pakistani chara is mahreen#and she's still a side character. and i wouldnt have known she existed if glep hadnt told me#like granted muslim charas are limited in western media knowing how pk muslims seem to be about like. media consumption#but like DUDE!!!#and i had to stop reading ms marvel bc they put her in a love triangle like.... shes just like me except i dont know any girls whove been i#that fucking situation. also between a white guy and a fob like COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#*withers away*

ughhhh if only discovering new music could be classed as a professional hobby 😔.
#its one of my faaaave hobbies to indulge in if only i could talk about it and make it sound all professional like 'yeah i have an entire#blog dedicated to sounds i love and like and wish to encapsulate and store in one place that then becomes my happy go to place#and says so much about my personality and what i listen to and the energy it gives me and how discovering new music#has made me listen to so much of different cultures and countries and languages#that i couldnt ever do so before and even within my OWN cultures (indian and pakistani) ive LEARNT SO MUCH!!!#such as how sound changes overtime throughout history but some elements stay the same#how good folk music can be if you just pay attention to it and are willing to give it a try#how the east mix elements of the west into their music but still keep it sounding eastern#but v modern too so that its a relatable listen for a westerner but still firm to its eastern roots#how multilingual songs have become! how much that says about an artist trying to express themselves and their identities!#how stories are told how concepts are explored how religion is used as a way to devote something to someone close to you#how much you learn just by opening up yourself to new music and sounds!!!! how you can build entire playlists around fictional media#and characters based on the songs you hear and how you can make the two things crossover and overlap.#how that enhances your experience of consuming media!!! and makes the song and piece of media even more symbolic to you.'#ughhhhhhhh 😔😔😔😔😔.#faiza talks

#why is every pakistani woman on tv and in media practically white#i'm sick of seeing them all look exactly the same. like copy pasted mahira khans.#there was literally an ad for lotion where they advertised that it makes your skin more white#i'm so sick of the mass internalized racism and colorism here this genuinely makes me mad#i have relatively darker skin and i want to see that represented for ONCE. in anything. a drama; a commercial; anything.#lightgriffinsalt

i’m torn between indian and pakistani mainstream media bc i feel like the former tends towards wanting to be progressive as a whole but often makes haphazard attempts in the process that certainly have their heart in the right place but are still not doing quite enough and then the latter is like 90% straight women hating shite from the gutter but the leftover 10% that is actually worth something is some of the most phenomenal stuff you have ever seen and near close to perfect. but it’s only 10% and you have to wait and wade through so much of the shite to even get to it
#and i feel like both countries’ technological devt really reflects this in the sense that#when you compare most women’s station in india to most women’s station in pakistan it’s a very stark difference#like rocky aur rani is completely abnormal to even posit in pakistani media#but as a result of that rarity and the even more extensive degree of women’s oppression in pakistan#i feel like that sort of allows for more like. conscious critiques of patriarchy etc#which you don’t get as strongly in mainstream bwood bc financial elevation is such a huge mark of success and security already#that there’s not much care to interrogate beyond that even though it’s necessary#but disclaimer obv that these are still generalizations just based on what i feel like i’ve observed#and is in no way a reflection of more niche media from both countries that likely is way more self conscious and progressive#to be deleted

All your ninjago art reblogging has hit me hard with a realisation of fucking why do people bother to make Zane black if their gonna just give him the whitest blonde hair and blue eyes. It would be one thing if his hair was dyed but they put no effort into showing that it is, and he still has the brightest blue eyes ever. I get that they like the colour contrast, I get that they wanna show his ice connections, but if you wanna make a character black then at LEAST drop the euro centric beauty standards oh my god.
i do agree that I actually would like to see more of Zane with light hair that resembles actual bleached hair + brown eyes if he's going to be depicted as black.
Though I do think for the blue eyes part it is largely based on him being a robot, so like he's got led eyes that glow blue. maybe I'm not the best person to ask if this is bad or not, but I'm personally ok with this. It's not like ppl are supposed to think that's realistic (they're glowing robot eyes) + if ur depicting the other characters with non-eurocentric eye colors (like please. they're like all asian ....) as it further shows it's simply a robot feature (You can also argue his hair not resembling dyed hair is also bc of robot stuff like. Artificial hair ig??? Idk how I fully feel abt that one though)
but even then he does occasionally don looks where he's supposed to blend in with humans, so blue eyes can be a bit odd for that (in s8 though his human disguise had blue eyes in it... But whatever).
Another thing that would be cool actually for Zane to have light hair + blue eyes is for him to be an albino black guy. I do not see a lot of ppl depict characters in general like this, so it would be, as I said, Cool to see that. Still doesn't mean u can skimp out on making sure his features aren't eurocentric in this one as he's still black here
grain of salt for my takes on this since I'm not black I'm just passionate abt diversity in character design, feel free to wreck my shit or add onto it if ur more qualified to talk about it <:] ,,
#anon i also think a lot abt how ppl draw ninjago characters with white features and it makes me go bro cmon....#the other post i talked abt how i rlly specifically dont like blue eyes jay#give me brown eyed jay or give me death#like i said already i see all the characters as asian#(pls. just let me have this for my guilty pleasure butchered asian culture depiction media.#let me have them at least be asian and not white ppl in oriental aesthetic world)#so thats a no-no for me.#but also bc of the movie i attach the Pakistani headcanon onto him#so thats still asian. double no to blue eyes for me#Lloyd i can be a bit particular with too bc i like to think he has naturally brown eyes but Green Powers can make them look green.#like listen to me rn. You arent making the grandson of the guy who created this world White. You Arent. Dont Try It.#id honestly prefer if his hair was depicted as dyed too for that same reason#anywya this post is about Zane !!!!#personally i just cant stand white zane. too scary for me#and bc hes a robot i can be lenient on showing him with things like blue eyes and light hair as long as they're clearly robot features#like idk. due diligence besides that to appropriately show black features on him is the real make or break for me#thats my take a bit here ig. would still love dark eyes and realistically dyed hair#ESPECIALLY IF ITS A HUMAN ZANE AU. i wouldnt make that one blue eyes and naturally light hair#im typing this at 3am so if its incoherent and rambly. its bc it is#ask wooly???

lore for cypress and zarahs names are like.
the name zarah i took from my irl's cousin + khan is a very common muslim last name.
cypress comes from cy, shortened version of cypher (i went by cy for a short time and. took the name from bill cipher LOL) and dawood is another common muslim last name
cy's birthname Aisha is the more common version of my birthname Eisha lol
i never came up with other language names for them simply bc it just never occurred to me and i suppose for their lore it wouldn't make sense
#txt#Even with zarah being an immigrant she Could have changed her name but her og lore is set in the future so it wouldnt make sense#and theyre both pakistani bc i am and no other reason 👍 i have a lot of ocs that start out as a different race or ambiguous#and then i just end up making them pakistani bc its easier and theres like 5 in western media overall
