Chapter 5

A/n^2: I don’t know how much I’ll be posting yet but i decided for myself that it’d be the best to distract myself a bit <3 Merry Christmas to everyone who’s celebrating 🎄

The next morning I wake up in my bed, Grace is next to me sprawled across the Mattress like Patrick Star. I stretch and yawn, earning a tired groan from Grace next to me. I don’t even remember how we got here, I just knew we fell asleep in the car…?

My room door opens and Luke and Ali enter. I look at them a little confused. “What’re you doin here?” Gracie groans still half asleep. Luke rolls his eyes at her sleepy state “Mary Lou let us in. She said breakfast is ready and we should come get you two” I sigh and roll out of bed “swing your ass outta bed Gray. Mom will be mad if we won’t come, yknow her” I mumble to Gracie, still not fully awake.

Gracie and I are still wearing our pajamas, mine was a white tank top with shorts and Gracie’s were pretty similar. We make our way downstairs, our hair still messy and sticking into all directions but I couldn’t care less actually. Luke and Ali were both fully dressed already.

I sit down at the table, Gracie next to me. My mom comes in and put us some eggs on our plates. My brothers were already out, probably doing something for their YouTube channel or anything like that. “mornin baby. did you sleep well darling?” My mom asks me as she puts my egg on my plate and kissing my forehead. “I did actually. What bout you mama?” I ask her while starting eat my egg “it was okay. What are you guys plans for today?” “Dunno. They just came” Gracie grumbles from next to me, her mouth already full with food. I shrug and look at Luke and Ali who were now sitting across from me at the table. “How bout Netflix and chill? It’s raining outside anyway” Luke suggests while looking at me. I give him a small smile and nod “sounds good”. Gracie and Ali both look between Luke and me with big grins as we look into each others eyes without realizing anything.

My mom clears her throat, making me look away from Luke and at her. “I’m gonna go shop some groceries at Target in a few minutes. Do you guys wanna come with me, for buying snacks or something?” She asks while she refills mine and Gracie glass with water. I shrug and nod “yea sure why not”. The others also agree and we finish eating.

Gracie and I get up and walk upstairs, followed by the other two, into my room. “Sorry Pritchett, no boys while changing” Gracie says and closes the door behind Ali, in Luke’s face making him roll his eyes.

Gracie and I get changed while Ali sits on my bed and just yaps our ears off about the new boy in school, Logan. After a few minutes we finish changing. I’m wearing a sweatshirt and low waist pants with my hair into a bun. Grace wears a tshirt and some shorts and her hair into a braid.

We all get downstairs, where Luke is already waiting for us. He sighs annoyed and mumbles a “finally”. Gracie gives him the middle finger and plops down onto the couch, grabbing the tv remote. “Gray we going to target first” I remind her and hide a small smirk at her short term memory. “Ohhh yea…forgot bout that” she puts the remote back down and gets up. I blush slightly and smile to myself as I feel Luke’s arm around my waist.

unfortunately I wasn’t the only one who noticed. Gracie looks between us with a huge grin on her face, her dimples popping out.

after a few minutes later my mom was ready and we all went into the car and drove to target. When we were there, we separated us from my mom and went to shop on our own. We made a lot of photos and some TikTok’s too.

Cause my mom took too long, we went into the nearby McDonald’s for a little snack. After around half an hour, my mom finishes and comes to pick us up there.

My random super power is it doesn’t matter WHAT I wear to petsmart, someone will think I’m an employee.

Last time I wore a Halloween themed shirt from a local blood drive, and shorts. MULTIPLE people approached me with questions about dog training and nutrition.

Today I wore a shirt with dinosaurs and Christmas trees. I’m 95% sure it’s actually part of a pajama set, but yolo.

A volunteer from a rescue at the adoption event started asking me “how can you tell cats like you?” Apparently he’s petted a few and then been scratched so I explained body language and also petting aggression.

Later a woman approached me while I pet some kittens. “Are they boys or girls?”

“Oh I don’t know. I haven’t seen their backsides yet and I don’t see any paperwork.”

“Are they fixed?”

“Any reputable rescue will only adopt out animals who are fixed. Cats can be fixed as young as 2 months and 2 pounds. Both these babies appear to be over 8 weeks old. And they should have all age appropriate vaccines, but of course you’d want to see a GP to continue their vaccine series.”

“Okay I want to adopt that one.”

And that’s the moment I realized she thought I worked there despite my silly tshirt and being surrounded by people wearing tshirts with the rescue name. So I redirected her to someone in a rescue shirt so she could adopt the kitten she wanted. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This literally happens EVERY TIME. It doesn’t matter what I wear. I could wear a shirt that says “I DONT WORK HERE” and someone would still ask my opinion on cat enrichment. (And to be fair I DO have opinions on that subject.)

16. Thoughts on mint chocolate chip

I love mint chocolate chip. What kind of toothpaste are you all using that you think they taste the same?! XD I love mint. My tums which sustain me are mint flavored haha

25. Would you say you have good taste in music?

Oh definitely not. See, we were not allowed to listen to secular music growing up. That means anything that was not christian music. So for the longest time it was just songs from disney movies or christmas music. I actually grew to hate christian music. I told my parents and sister I just preferred quiet to music so I could mayyybe convince them to turn it down. So much fighting with my sister over this oof.

So yeah, in middle school I discovered the warrior cat fandom on youtube, and that was my first intro to "real" music. So many amvs (cause yeah I started when amvs were the things before maps got popular). Had to watch in secret though. I didn't really start listening to music until COLLEGE. And even then I only had youtube, so finding new music was relegated to what fandom video someone made. The first song I had an emotional reaction to was Talk by Coldplay lol. It was actually a tmnt idw panel video about the aftermath of city fall haha. I used to write the lyrics of these new songs I discovered in my notebooks during college lectures oof.

Though it's gotten easier over the years, that is primarily how I have discovered music. I probably tell you exactly where every song I have saved came from fandom wise. That's why I love when you guys make playlists, it introduces new music to me.

Sometimes I like to try and guess the artist of a song, or the decade, and my bestie is always proud of me when I get it right XD

So yeah my taste in music is really weird, it's whatever is thrown in front of me that I decide I like. The only band I can think of that I found on my own with no fandom connection would be AJR, and that's a stretch because it came off of She-Ra sort of.

27. What is your go to outfit?

You know all those shows growing up where there were always girl characters where they were always total fashionistas? Couldn't be me. Could never ever ever relate. Ever.

My preferred outfit is a graphic tee with a cute animal on it, and jeans or capris. Still getting used to wearing shorter shorts haha. If it's cooler I have several baggy sweatshirts I have amassed over the years. If I'm at home it's tshirts and pajama pants haha. I don't like to be fancy. All of my shoes are grey.

Oh lord. Okay, here goes--

Do you like watching sunsets? Yes! It's my favorite time of actual daytime, although I do like nighttime better in general.

Have you ever started a rumor? Not exactly a rumor, but once all the Elder Cousins (myself included) convinced all the baby cousins that there was a ghost haunting the mountain my grandparents lived on, and it just kind of kept growing until there was a hidden treasure and several ghost grudges and a forbidden romance and all sorts of stuff. We kept it up for a solid two months until one of the aunts caught on and revealed us as the masterminds. The babies still haven't forgiven us 28-ish years later.

What makes you laugh hard? One thing about me is I am a bitch who loves to laugh. I will crack up with very little provocation, but probably I laugh the most when I'm with my sister. We're so similar and find the same things funny so we can really "yes, and" each other into hysterics very easily.

What's the last concert you went to? I actually can't remember. It's been a long time, because although I love concerts they do not love my body and my body is often a little bitch about things chronically ill and disabled.

If you believed in it, what would you be reincarnated to? If I got to pick, I think i might like to be a whale.

What's your current vocal stim? Usually it's "fuckamingo," from this video of a little girl trying to say flamingo but messing it up adorably, but lately it's been a quote from a House Hunters episode my wife was watching where the lady looking for a house goes, "Far, Gary!" in, like, a valley girl accent. It's annoying everyone in my life, thanks for asking.

What shirt are you wearing? The really soft, several sizes too big tshirt I bought to go with my christmas pajamas this year. It's grey and has pink and blue and sea green christmas trees on it.

Who or what is on your mind? My sister in law. She's trans, and all of the bullshit happening with the US government right now is scary for all of us queer, disabled, decent people, but I really worry for her (and all the other trans people I love) in particular.

What are your favorite pair of shoes? Because of my disabilities, I can't wear any really fun shoes anymore, but I recently got a pair of tennis shoes that are an exact match for the peach/lavender color palette Stede wears on the deserted island in S1 of OFMD so I'm really pleased with those.

What would easily win you over if someone gave you it? Honestly, I'm pretty easy. As long as there's genuine thought behind it, I'm happy.

What three words describe you? Curious, smart, loving

What's a funny memory you have? When my nephew was a few days old, he caught sight of my sister's dog for the first time and made the absolute funniest face I have ever seen. His eyes were the size of dinner plates and he just looked so alarmed...I can't describe how hilarious the poor little guy looked.

Do you have any drunk stories? No, I've been disabled enough to keep me from drinking since my early teens, so I never really had a chance.

What's one thing you own that you're sure no one else has? I have this gorgeous, framed embroidery piece of two eighteenth century ladies sitting in a garden making bedroom eyes at one another. I found it in a thrift shop and behind the frame it's signed as an original by the artist so I'm pretty positive it's the only one out there.

Do you have any superstitions? Plenty, but they're all pretty low stakes. Like, I'll throw spilled salt over my left shoulder but I don't freak out if I forget or something. There's only one that I put a lot of stock in. When I got married, I struggled a lot with infertility and at the advice of my therapist got a dog. He was my child and when he passed away last year, I got a memorial necklace for him that I wear all the time. Whenever the clasp works its way around to touch the charm, I kiss the charm/clasp and make a wish before I turn it back around, and I always wish the same thing: that someday I'll see him again.

What is your guilty pleasure? Right now, Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta. I don't even like reality tv and I cannot stop watching this show.

What weird thing do you do when you're alone? Generally the same weird things I do when I'm around people.

What is the worst food you've ever had? Tuna salad. Ick.

What fictional character would you bring to life if you could? Most of my favorite fictional characters come as a set and I wouldn't want to separate them. But if I had to pick just one, maybe King Arthur? I feel like he could fix some shit around here.

If you could join a career immediately, what would it be? Does heiress count? For real, though, I would like my health to improve enough that I could go back to being a therapist full time.

What keeps you going during the day? AO3 and a whole lotta (prescription) drugs.

Funniest inside joke? Congressman Marr. I cannot explain.

What's your favorite piece of jewelry you own? My wedding ring or my aforementioned memorial necklace, although I'm also really partial to my OFMD Ed's boot/Stede's shoe earrings and my bee earrings and my lily of the valley earrings and...I have a problem.

Favorite niche topic? I couldn't decide, but my wife says it's rank and title in Regency England so apparently I talk about that a lot.

What fandom are you currently in? OFMD, WWDITS (movie and show), BG3, SWTOR--I could honestly keep listing for a really long time. But those are the most active right now.

Most controversial take? Doesn't feel like it should be controversial, but apparently that we should treat other people with kindness.

Favorite ship and why? Ed/Stede from OFMD. I don't know what it is exactly but I've been absolutely feral since 2022 and I'm not showing any signs of slowing down.

Do you have any piercings or tattoos, and what are they? My ears are pierced once. I would love more piercings or a tattoo but unfortunately, my terrible body rejected the last piercing I tried to get (a second hole in my earlobes) and my doctors all say I really shouldn't chance that or a tattoo again.

What is your worst & best quality? My worst is probably impatience, and (survey says) my best is being kind.

Molly was just coming out of the bathroom, where there is not a camera rigged, wearing a baggy tshirt of Jonathan's that has a picture of Shrek and Donkey on it and a pair of Christmas pajama pants. Looking comfortable and festive. She stops and listens then bobs like a parrot hearing a song it particularly likes before hopping along with the pa-rum pum pum pums back down to the living room, making her mane of blond hair bounce wildly around her.

I am very confused. I got into an argument with my mom this morning. Because the family of someone I'm dating asks me for help with things sometimes. My mom feels that because I am sometimes able to help this family that I should be able to do a lot more to help her. Example, I was asked to help put up christmas trees and put away halloween decor tomorrow afternoon, so why can't I wake up early on Friday and help my mom put up her christmas tree and decor?

I have reasons (are they excuses? idk you tell me?) I do not function well in the early morning, I'm still tired. My sleep medication takes forever to wear off. I need coffee and food before I do anything or else I'm miserable and make lots of careless mistakes because I am not at my best. Also, my mother is very particular about how things go. Everything has to be just so and I find that very frustrating. Helping his family will mean, 1, it's not my house so, I don't have to do the heavy lifting 2, it will be hours after my pills have worn off and I have been fed 3, his family is not very particular about how a thing gets done as long as it gets done.

Am I making excuses or does this make sense to anyone? Because according to my mom it's all excuses. She also said that I'm only being helpful to make myself look good.

Other aspects of my life were called into question. Like if you're doing so well why don't you fix yourself up to look nicer everytime you leave the house? If you're doing so well, why don't you stay on top of doing your laundry (I do my own laundry, it just piles up in my room and looks bad is what she's saying) If you're doing so well why aren't you cooking and cleaning at a level you have never previously been capable of doing? (Tell me how does that make any sense? Why would I suddenly be doing things at a rate I have never previously achieved?)

I thought me cleaning more frequently meant I was doing better. I thought me combing my hair and putting on clothes that matches and isn't pajamas before I leave the house meant I was doing better. Apparently it doesn't in that It's Not Good Enough. In order for her to believe that I am doing better I have to preform my self care and hygiene to her standards. I have to function better than I ever have in my life before. Apparently the fact that I have to convince myself to do things like wash the dishes, do my laundry, and clean my bathroom is this huge red flag that means I am not doing well.

But none of that was acceptable to her. She said she was just trying to understand me as if I'm so difficult to understand.

Why can't she accept that?

typically i draw sarge wearing camo pants with bright red (potentially red team merch) on top that completely spoils any potential camouflage benefits. idea: he sleeps in a santa costume because he thought they were red pajamas. grif: is that… a santa suit? sarge: what? grif: sarge, you’re dressed up as santa right now. sarge: oh yeah? well then merry christmas, have some buckshot *shoots grif*

simmons wears polo shirts and dress pants because he wants to look nice (and a headcanon i have just decided is he hates jean texture— special thanks to all the autistic simmons headcanons out there and also as an homage to my partner who also hates jean texture). if he wore sweatpants he’s certain he’d die of mortification. he absolutely wears those matching two piece pajamas at night. long sleeves/pants so skin isn’t showing and once he gets the prosthetics he ties that sleeve/pant leg in knots when he sleeps so they don’t flail/tangle around him/slap him in the face (if anyone knows if this is ridiculous in a negative sense rather than practical let me know. i do not use prosthetics and therefore don’t know if this would make sense)

donut wears flashy things, but is probably at least somewhat coordinated (though he thinks he’s more skilled at it than he actually is and sometimes he’ll wear something that’s a trend or a reference to something and it looks godawful to everyone else). he sleeps in kinda skimpy and expensive looking underwear and it is only barely tolerated because he wears a robe once he gets out of bed

grif is the sweatpants king. tshirts, tank tops, short sleeve button ups, hoodies, whatever. his clothes do look pretty alright— if you ignore the stains he definitely knows how to color coordinate (years of helping his sister— who cared very much— pick outfits for school). sleeps in his day clothes because why not? simmons often ends up doing his laundry for him because he can’t stand the piles of dirty clothes on the floor

doc is the type to wear cardigans and coexist patches

caboose is a t-shirt kind of person but i imagine he wears any kind of casual clothes. i don’t think he’d make a fuss about wearing a skirt either. in my personal headcanon gender norms aren’t as strict on the moon and he got lots of hand me downs from his many sisters anyways. whatever he likes and feels good. probably wears comfy pjs with bunny slippers or some other cutesy kind of slipper

tucker is probably a bit more looks over comfort than caboose. he probably gets pretty self conscious about standing out in a negative way so he tries to avoid looking “girly” or “nerdy”. has tboy swag despite being cis (i’ve never been very good at understanding/writing tucker so take this with a grain of salt). canonly sleeps in the nude

church is iffy about his entire wardrobe. why the hell would he buy that?? but whatever. wears the most basic of the clothes “he brought” to blood gulch because some of the options are god-awful. usually jeans and a button up shirt over a t-shirt i think

kai is stylish but needs help to coordinate colors so she has a list of what goes well together for when she cares about that sort of thing. when she doesn’t consult it things get a little wild in the color department and it’s very her

tex dresses like a stereotypical butch lesbian and fucking slays. whether she’s dressed like a biker or lumberjack, she’s pretty secure in her womanhood— her womanhood is just pretty masc presenting and pronoun indifferent. he/she tex ftw
